WALLACE: Did you tell Senator Leahy, “bleep yourself”?
CHENEY: I did.
WALLACE: Any qualms, second thoughts, or embarrassment?
CHENEY: No, I thought he merited it at the time and we’ve since patched over that wound.
As revealing as that exchange was, this one’s even more illuminating:
Host Chris Wallace also asked Cheney if he was bothered by his outgoing approval ratings – a dismal 29 percent.
"We didn’t set out to achieve the highest level of polls that we could during this administration," Cheney said. "Eventually you wear out your welcome in this business."
Is that so?
Let’s see — the last three 2-term presidents were Clinton, Reagan and Eisenhower. Clinton left with a 66% approval rating, Reagan, 63% and Eisenhower, 59%. So, no Dick, you only "wear out your welcome" when you totally wreck the country.
But don’t you also love the way Dick equates low popularity with good governance, as though, in a democratically-elected republic, having a majority of the electorate think you’re doing a good job is somehow bad. In other words, 70% of the American people are idiots.
Hey, Dick? Go fuck yourself.

Yea. Fuck off, you fucking criminal.
Well, the thing with Dick is that he has the same attitude as that story about Stalin, when someone supposedly questioned something he was planning to do that would hurt a whole lot of people, that the Pope would give him trouble..and he supposedly said, “So, how many divisions does the Pope have?” it’s the same attitude as the schoolyard bully – ’so, punk, whatcha gonna do about it?”
The WaPo0 has the full transcript of the Wallace/Darth interview here
Cheney is saying:
“We only said that we knew what was Best for you, not that you’d like it. Now, go fuck yourselves!”
Watching these bastards retreat from Washington guarding their- er- flanks- is one of the greatest pleasures one can imagine from politics. I am hoping that there will be classic photographs of the withdrawal.
I have managed to procure a small cask of fine tequila for the occaision.
Arnold Ludwig, in King of the Mountain, called these kinds of leaders visionaries, in the sense of leaders who change their country entirely during their time at the top. FDR is in that category, but so are Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot, Mao. That is, most visionaries are evil: their vision leads them to think that only the total destruction of the old order will make the new world into their utopia.

Translated Cheney is “We knew what was best for US- and you were bound to figure it out eventually- only took ya eight years ya dumb fucks- so go fuck yerselves—we fucked ya like ya never been fucked- right Karl?”
And he’s a bad shot too.
Indeed. George, Dick, Condi, Don, ALberto, John, John, Sam, and all the resty of you asshole neocons go fuck youselves.
there are no better words for him
i read somewhere, quite some time ago, that the behind the scenes policy input bots thought and/or said that Reagan’s 66% approval when he left office was “a waste”. wish i could find that again. but when i read it, it truly sunk in that the Bu$h cabal cares not one whit about damage done to the country or Americans dying here AND abroad. They only care about getting what they want from us and, well, “fuck them”, meaning the American people, is the prevailing mindset.
i’ve said it before and will say it again, they are and have been trying to kill as many of the little people as possible. the less there are of us, the more there IS for them.
Well if you were born without a heart you are undead! If you don’t have empathy for other people modern science calls you a sociopath.
http://personalitydisorders.su….._sociopath
Being kinda religious I wonder if Sociopaths are born without souls? Can anyone argue that anyone who cannot feel another’s pain or happiness does have a Soul?
I swear I will do a diary on this someday.
If Bush and Cheney had an approval rating in the sixties, would John McCain be the president-elect? The election would have been a nail biter probably none the less.
How did this fucking scum ever receive approval. They laugh about killing a million, Justice my ass!
Leahy proved he earned the comment because he did fuck himself and the rest of us by not running down this bastard through the gates of hell. How about hearing after hearing about who did the anthrax, that was attempted murder directed against him from our military stock pile of illegal biological weaponized anthrax. I fucking bet dick has a clue where ,when and how that happened.
[Mod: All this meant rhetorically, we trust.]

My Italics, Bold
Cheney has Transcended his soul to
risesink into evil! Like some dark God in a Buffy the Vampire episode trying to move up the evil food chain!Nixon was a two-termer, although his second term was truncated. Eisenhower, among other things, was responsible for Operation Ajax, which laid the foundation for our current conflict with Iran. Reagan, Iran/Contra, savings and loan crisis, etc.. Clinton was a fuck-up too, although it is too soon to know on how monumental a scale. My point is that the three presidents named left office with higher approval ratings than they deserved. Dubya’s greatest contribution might be making all of his predecessors look better by comparison.
Mission accomplished.
Cheney can’t feel too badly about the last 8 years. He got away with murder, torture, illegal war, and domestic spying. He never had to pay any price for 9/11 or Katrina. Really the reason he sounds so satisfied is because he is so satisfied. The day Nancy Pelosi announced that impeachment was off the table he knew he was home free.
2-terms = 8 years.
Well seeing as he is the worst President in our history I think that is a given.
A excellent earlier post by THERS here at FDL, initially solicited my comments and approval, but has taken on a life of it’s own after God’s decision to make his web presence known.

I think BT is making the point that Cheney and Bush have never done anything that was unpopular at the time. They never made any hard choices.
A hard choice would have been to go after Ossama and ignore the oil companies lusting after Iraqi oil. A hard choice would have been to raise taxes to pay for the war. A hard choice would have been sending in enough troops in the first place instead of doing the invasion on the cheap.
A hard choice would have been to regulate the financial markets!
Bush is so low in popularity now because he NEVER made any hard choices and now we are paying for his lack of will and foresight.
Truman, Lincoln unpopular presidents who are revered today are revered because they made choices that were unpopular at the time but they were later proved right.
So logically Dick is wrong on two points he and Bush have never made hard choices they wanted to be popular I mean tax cuts in the middle of a war is not an attempt to be popular?
Also is there any chance that Bush will be proven right?
If anything Bush has set in motion such a hate against America that unless Obama gets on the stick diplomatically another terror attack is only a matter of time.
At which point Bush will say I told you we should have stayed in Iraq.
To which we reply thanks to you wrecking the economy we could not have afforded it. To which we reply we won WW2 in less time than you had time to win in Iraq!
Loo Hoo speaks for me.
Well- The public was against the Iraq invasion initially- until the “marketing program” and Clusterfuck kept sellin his social security privatization scam despite the fact that his approval ratings literally fell every time he made a speech on the subject.
When someone actually bothers to do a thorough analysis of this presidency- they will learn that the third rail got Bush big time. He was to stupid to let go.
The most interesting interview that I heard about Cheney was with Terry Gross of Fresh Air and Jane Meyer the author of “The Dark Side” (link)
Meyer tried to really understand Cheney and she was extremely fair. She talked about two things that struck me.
1) The burden that people in government have to protect the country and really have to bust terrorists and enemies who ARE out to kill Americans. Some of those people cared about the constitution and the rule of law. They were appalled by the torture and worked against it. Some resigned over it. These are true patriots who we don’t hear much about. They paid the price for standing up to Cheney and for the rule of law. I look forward to their recognition once Cheney is gone. They will be essential for the future prosecution because they went on record and aren’t as tainted as the people who went along with the nastiness.
2) Meyer talked about how after 9/11 Cheney started getting the raw intelligence with no filter from the intelligence agencies. They contained info from nuts with no credibility and real reports from killers. Cheney took them all as possibilities and acted as if they might happen (the 1% doctrine). Now of course Cheney (and Feith) purposely looked for and demanded this raw intelligence and he also made a decision to not read the analysis about the credibility of the sources. But both these decisions made him more and more paranoid. (The man travels with a working hazmat suit!)
In order to get Cheney in prison and to prevent the rise of his ilk again, we need to understand him. And then we need to act. Cheney’s understanding of what the American people would buy for a war (Mushroom cloud vs. we need more oil) helped him sell Iraq. His understanding of how to manipulate the law so that when the sh*t came down he wouldn’t be technically breaking the law was also key. (That involved rewriting the law) His understanding of who to talk to in the press and how to play “The Very Serious Adult” was also important. Tim Russert wouldn’t really question him. He could out stare and out gravitas anyone.
He could deliver a line that was true and linguistic correct and if you weren’t willing to dig and call him on it he would get away with it. “Saddam Hussein “had long- established ties with al Qaeda.” can mean a lot if by long-established ties you chose the meaning to be that al Qaeda kept asking for money and help and were turned down. I have long established ties with telemarketers too. They call me, ask for money and I say no. Technically those are long established ties.
Finally his understanding to the term and power of “national security” and secrecy are the two things that will keep him safe for years unless we can figure out a way to pierce those veils. I think that there are plenty of people in the government who might just accidentally on purpose supply documents to citizen journalists who want to know the real story.
Bush did squander his high approval ratings after 9/11 and only a very effective
got him what he wanted against the people’s better judgment .
I agree he then kept on squandering and squandering it.
Bush has none to blame but himself for his low approval ratting.
If we’re going to nitpick, two COMPLETE terms = 8 years. If the period of January 20, 1973 to October 10, 1973 isn’t Nixon’s second “term,” what is it?
My bad, October 10, 1973 was the date Agnew resigned. Nixon’s second term last from January 20, 1973 to August 9, 1974.
Bloody Bill Kristol whole-heartedly approves of the justice of Cheney’s Go Fuck Yourself remark to Pat Leahy. Bravo, says Kristol and all the Fox News Bobbleheads concur! Fuck Us. Fuck us all everyone.
Cheney, his idiot sidekick and all their minions fucked us all royally. That is one true thing. Of Kristol’s justice, there is none. Kristol is a clown who begs for more pies in the face. There would be a smidgen of justice in that.
A “two-term” president is one who has served eight years. “Elected to two terms” means something else entirely. Harry Truman is never spoken of as a two-term president, yet he served all but a couple months of an entire term before being elected, in 1948, to his own term.
Most likely, Cheney’s also had the mother of all pardons for himself prepared for the Decider’s signature. No worries. Bank accounts bulging. Fox News beckons. He doesn’t care if the world will cheer his death.
Well said, BT.

New word!
I know and have animals who feel more deeply than this, so my answer to the soul question would be NO.
If empathy is evidence of the soul the, my kitties have one for sure!
Pardon, shmardon! Either the world court will get him or his black heart will. Do you think he will be able to have 5 cardiologists following him around after he leaves? Well, maybe, since he did steal all our money and he’ll prolly follow it to Dubai.
it’s the next day and i read this through the morning swim link but i just gotta get in on this action. dick cheney should go fuck himself! (mmm, that felt great!)
