During the course of the entire inaugural festivities, there are going to be a wide range of viewpoints that are presented. And that's how it should be, because that's what America's about. That's part of the magic of this country, is that we are diverse and noisy and opinionated.
The pastor of my church, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, who recently preached his last sermon and is in the process of retiring, has touched off a firestorm over the last few days. He's drawn attention as the result of some inflammatory and appalling remarks he made about our country, our politics, and my political opponents.
Let me say at the outset that I vehemently disagree and strongly condemn the statements that have been the subject of this controversy. I categorically denounce any statement that disparages our great country or serves to divide us from our allies. I also believe that words that degrade individuals have no place in our public dialogue, whether it's on the campaign stump or in the pulpit. In sum, I reject outright the statements by Rev. Wright that are at issue.
So equating homosexuals with pedophiles and calling for the murder of foreign heads of state is part of the "magic of this country," while Jeremiah Wright's remarks are "inflammatory and appalling." Interesting.
And does Obama really think that Warren's comments about gays aren't degrading?
Notes Greenwald:
There is a respectful and civil (even if clearly wrong) case to make against gay marriage, or against abortion, or in favor of a hard-line towards Iran. But in each case, Warren opts for the most hateful, not respectful, rhetoric to defend his position. Embracing someone like Warren is no more "inclusive" than inviting a White Supremacist or, for that matter, a Christian-hater to deliver the invocation.
The real problem for Obama isn't that Warren's against gay marriage and abortion. Joe Biden's parish priest probably is too. No, the problem is that, by giving Warren this honor, he's elevating someone who engages in the same kind of hateful remarks he's already on the record condemning. And it's very difficult to explain that contradiction except to conclude that it's exceedingly cynical on the part of Obama.
Questioning the morals of the gays, not a problem. Questioning the morals of the United States? Unacceptable.

In bad mouthing Gays Warren has picked the one group left in the USofA that it is OK politically and culturallly to discriminate against. It’s wrong but it’s also the only thing the Right can agree on.
Maybe Obama didn’t know?
Or maybe no one told him?
Or maybe he knew, or was told, and doesn’t care?
Or, perhaps, he’s super-smart and this is part of his three-dimensional chess game that we non-Obama non-smarties can’t see yet?
In any event, Obama has taken the pain of Election Day and extended it all the way to his Inauguration, for those of us who saw our rights stripped away. Now we get to see and hear a prime mover of the hate movement address the world on Obama’s behalf.
Thanks, Obama. You suck.
Who BT Hugo Chavez?, Castro? brown folk who give their people healthcare? That seems to be the favorite of the GOP, still not one word about the Nun Killers trained at the School for the Americas.
Warren reflects the bigoted south and the religion it created to justify
slavery. The southern root of this movement is elided in most discussions
of it… Orange County California is South Carolina as regards religion.
Classic Bully of course him and the Mormons are so outraged now that you are fighting back!
Second that. Had a bad intuition about him right away, and unfortunately he’s turned out to be even worse.
Not just The Right. The “Mainstream” media agrees too. Why do you think Rachel Maddopw minds her Ps and Qs so carefully? Why do you think Anderson Cooper went back in the closet?
Interesting
How can you be inclusive when you include people who want to exclude everyone else?
Good point, but separate issue. The question I’m posing is, why are you inclusive of one and not another?
Will David Duke get an invite to speak next? Maybe the Minute Men, Lou Dobbs and Glen Beck?
Much as Clinton caved on the issue of gays serving openly in the military, Obama undermined his flacid support of LGBT rights with his clear statement that “marriage is between a man and a woman”. Obama’s self-contradictory formal opposition to Proposition 8 didn’t discourage the Yes on 8 campaign. They proudly pictured Obama along with McCain on their advertisements, the two candidates united in support of traditional marriage.
Of course, Obama’s lack of conviction on same-sex marriage has been no worse than his running mate’s, or for that matter, the Democratic Party’s cowardice. But Obama has become the undisputed leader of his Party and an inspiration to all Americans who hope to see the nation make a change for the better. If Obama himself won’t muster up the courage to confront discrimination against LGBT folks, how can anyone expect any more support from Democrats as a whole? Is it not clear that it’s an issue that Obama has declared “off the table”?
Moreover, Obama has become a powerful role-model for oppressed minorities in America. He has set an example for African Americans in particular, whom exit poles indicated as voting over 70% in favor of Proposition 8, on how to vote homophobically while maintaining a clear conscience. In Obama’s America, ethnic minorities have finally won acceptance into the highest reaches of mainstream society, but LGBT people remain firmly shut out.
As many have pointed out, the core source of anti-gay bigotry lies at the heart of the Christian and Mormon church, and its hateful message cuts a wide resonant swath across American ethnic communities. Whites, Blacks, and Hispanics have all bought into Christian propaganda and share responsibility for its virulent homophobia.
However, as a prominent Christian, it is Obama who now leads the way for those who seek to block the acceptance of LGBT people in mainstream society. He has shown them how and where to draw the line that keeps us shut out, while betraying absolutely no animosity or prejudice against us personally. It is exactly the balance of benign neglect that homophobic Christian America can unite around.
This is truly Obama’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” issue, and it is he who has the opportunity to break the stalemate. But until Obama does some genuine soul-searching on his commitment to social justice, nothing that he says is going to make any difference at all.
Great post, BT.
Should Obama appoint a Hate Czar so that we can all be on the same page for appropriate hate targets? I’m really going to have a hard time otherwise, because I usually reserve hate only for those with views as mean spirited as Warren’s. I just don’t see hate coming from Wright; I see righteous indignation over continued injustice created by hate.
Obama thoroughly marginalized a significant segment of the the black community with his public rebuke of his own pastor. Apparently, that community is not as significant nor important as the racist throng the McCain/Palin ticket pandered to. This tack will do us much good for Obama as it did for McCain, at the end of the day.
I am heterosexual; however I most certainly did unsub from Obama’s so-called e-list. He can sell coffee mugs and scarfs to Warren’s nutjob lemmings.
Giving a notorious homophobe and misogynist a GLOBAL stage is beyond the pale.
Enough, already.
BT - i’ve listened to the good rev wright’s two controversial sermons several times and like them a lot. a few nights ago several of us were discussing them and ctuttle inspired me to post them as flash streams so more folks could give them a listen and compare wright to warren.
also, lokywoky posted this bit for comparison from the good rev martin luther king:
I have a feeling that Obama’s half-life as an inspriation or role model is gonna be pretty short. So far he’s as divisive & dismissive as W when you disagree with him.
The difference is Warren preaches hate and fear about a minority group of America, while trying to ‘help’ out white people. Rev White preaches vile things about the majority (white)group of America, while trying to ‘help’ out black people. Needless to say, the majority does not like that. The similarity is that they are both living really well off of people who should really know better (both about giving your money away to a rich man only to make him richer and that they should really just live and let live).
Oh because the Rev Wright is Black! Obama wants to include Whites…
even thoseespecially those who want to exclude him. Whats that old joke about never wanting to belong to a club that would admit you as a member?Obama is assimilating.
Yeah, but…. LGBTs are elevated, too! We get to march in the parade.
I really, really don’t like it that gays-marching-in-the-parade is being used as evidence of Obama’s inclusion (the latest being last night on Countdown when John Harwood made the remark). Especially since Faux News and the Christian Broadcasting invariably show pictures of gays from Pride Parades each time they do a derogatory story on LGBT equality efforts.
I’d like to see the LGBT band drop out of the inaugural parade now, if nothing more than to send a message.
Southern religious bigotry was mainstreamed by the republicans with
Reagan bringing them into the tent, milking their votes… Reagan made
people like Warren normal, when actually their views are extreme to say
the least. It is another legacy of the kulturkampf strategy of the South
in it’s republican guise… Woodrow Wilson was it’s democratic hero.
Assimulating or being an opportunist? Started out in the black community when that made sense for his career, now switching sides because it’s more beneficial to his career.
what vile things has wright preached? i don’t agree with him about some of what he says, but i haven’t heard anything vile.
IOKIYAR
That has the uncomfortable ring of truth… sure does.
AfroDenial Syndrome! Its quite serious for minority kids if you grow up in the burbs without any strong positive minority rolemodels.
http://nappyme.wordpress.com/a.....-got-that/
BT, I can’t come up with an answer to something that is so wrong. I’m trying to figure this out. Is he trying to appeal to some lowest common denominator? Is it about $? Why he didn’t think or care just how much outrage we at this site and others who care about human equality and justice would feel and show is something I cannot understand.
Precisely. Wright’s views are less divisive.
That said, it time to focus on the much bigger and more important issue, and stop playing into the hands of the media and the globalists, who want you to wring your hands about political matters while they wheel all our money out the back door.
Can we please focus on what the banksters are really doing to our country, and where our money is going?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PIEGK0IbA4&e
Opportunist hmm how does throwing away the bird in the hand for the bird in the bush that you are never going to get make sense? How is it beneficial to his career?
I think he has made a huge mistake because he wants to be liked. I hope we can stop him.
BT! you nailed this!!! i’ve been wondering that same thing myself for days now, but don’t have the skills of the “pen/keyboard” that you do. Thanks for bringing this up!
And a thing I’d like to add; Warren’s invitation to be a major playa at Obama’s inauguration is, for all practical purposes, catering to what I often refer to as America’s Religious Fundamental Extremists! It’s akin to an elected official in Iraq inviting and including Sadr, or any of the other ayatollah’s so prevalent in that region. Or, since they’re presumably BFF’s, Maliki asking for blessings on national TV from Khomeni.
Isn’t it?
I have one question:
Who do we run against him in the primaries?
Note: Obama was not my candidate. I voted for him because I couldn’t abide the thought of twitter-pated Palin being one heartbeat away from the football…
Obama’s behavior does not strike me as Afro-denial. He’s been there, done that. He did it with community org in Chicago & his visits to his family in Kenya.
I think he’s moved on. There’s no epilogue in his Dreams from My Father book to tell you what happened to his programs in Chicago, his coworkers who he claimed to be close to, his family, even though he wrote the book several years after the events in it took place. That indicated to me that he thinks there is no more for him to be gained from them. Done. Forgotten. I’ll be very curious if they are invited to the inauguration.
http://nappyme.wordpress.com/a.....-got-that/
Doing something for opportunistic reasons and making a mistake are not mutually exclusive. They often go together.
Have you listened to the two sermons in their entirety? Sounds to me as if you’re basing your opinion on the sound bites heard round the world.
Like Goddamn America, I dont care how much you dont like something, but if i bring my whole family, kids, grandparents and everybody to church on sunday I am hoping to hear some family friendly words. If i wanted my kids to hear people cursing for an hour, i would bring them to a sports bar and have a much better time.
I’m amazed that we’ve come full circle with the good Rev Wright’s sermons.
Now I know you haven’t listed to the sermons. First off, they’re not an hour long. Secondly, they’re not filled with cursing. I suggest you study the material in full before writing reviews.
Afro Denial he has moved past them, past his roots, past Rev Wright, past needing Gays, the blogs, now that he has denied the Afro he wants to ascend to Whiteness!
Well thats how I see it the air at the top is a little thin
http://nappyme.wordpress.com/a.....-got-that/
Rev. Wright has raised millions for the homeless, scholarships , food for the hungry and Aids. These are my causes. I watched a clip of the whole context of G.. D…. America. It was speaking as an Iraqui. I also saw him on CSpan. It was there he showed how he could raise all that money . The usual facilitator for the press club treated him horribly. He joked with her and was never rude, mostly clever. I see some of the same qualities in Obama. Obama had a sad face after he threw Rev. Wright under the bus..much the same as when his grandmother died. I think due to Rev. Wright’s age, his choice of words was unfortunate. Then on the other hand ..his causes show great compassion. Maybe he has grieved for his country and Iraq. I personally wish he could replace Rick Warren. Let the MSM have a field day.
Too bad we don’t have the Clintons who are soooooomuch much less dismissive than Obama, that is if you don’t ask.
Austin’s Jennifer Gale died Tuesday night, after sleeping outside on the cold street. For those of you who didn’t know her:
http://texascivilrightsreview......8;sid=1309
And the next day, Obama invited Rick Warren to give his lovely invocation. What a world, what a world.
I think this mistake is based in emotion he wants to belong. Yes I’m sure he rationalizes it but how can anyone rationalize Rev Warren’s views to the Dem Base?
What can Rev Warren give him that is worth more than our support? Taking us for granted isn’t rational either.
It’s the U.S. We are blessed with a string of bad leaders.
no kidding. one thing i’ll say for all this warren nonsense is that it got me to listen to wright again.
Every day I seem to get madder about this -
The LGBT community and it friends need to do something instead of just screaming although that’s not a bad thing to do -
Recently there was a group that organized events after the election all over the US opposing the passage or Prop 8. Seems to me that this is a perfect time to do something similar during the day & time Obama is sworn in. We could call it a rally against hate and lost opportunities or just throw a big party and flip Obama the bird along the way.
Make no mistake about it - he has pissed on his LGBT supporters and we need to return the favor.
Thank you, Blue Texan, for that question.
I’m so sick of the hypocrisy and the false equivalencies that these people use to justify their sense of superiority, and I’m even sicker that it goes unchallenged. I know that anyone who espouses true liberal values could not get elected dogcatcher at this point, but the sad thing is that these are the values that are shared by most Americans, even while ignored by the Powers That Be - the shrill minority that still determines our national dialogue.
And I’m sick of the “Wealth=Morality” metaphor that celebrates greed and opulence as a sign of God’s approval, which enables the Rick Warrens, Pat Robertsons, Jerry Falwells, and other haters to amass not only wealth but influence and, dare I say, even ‘respect’ from those who believe that mansions with gold-plated toilet fixtures and private jets are indications of moral authority and fitness to lead.
When will we be able to stand up and say without fear of condemnation that gays and lesbians are deserving of every right that straight people enjoy, and that to deny them their civil rights is not only illegal under our Constitution as written, but morally repugnant?
Why is it that when the oppressed criticize their oppression and oppressors, they are called ‘bigots’, but when the oppressors criticize those they oppress, they are “what America’s all about”?
but belong where? and who with?
by all appearances, obama wants to belong with the powerful. and he’s perfectly willing to throw those without power under the bus.
that to me is the opposite of a moral stance - which must include standing for and with first the oppressed.
The root problem here is that Obama is caving in to the default cultural settings in this country. He is assuming that Pastor Wright is way too controversial to appear at the inauguration, but a raving right wingnut like Rick Warren is mainstream enough to deserve inclusion on Jan. 20.
This is what we get after decades of Reagan/Bush/Cheney/Rove. The perceived “center” has been pushed a long way toward the right.
When I replaced my dead machine those 2 sermons were among the first things I downloaded. I just wish I could record the NAACP speech. Dude is straight up. I wonder how much success we had getting folks to listen to them. I know one thing, Jane’s repeated appearances on the teebee has brought the trolls out of the wilderness and into the Lake big time. Gonna hafta fire up my thermal lance.
Because life isn’t fair. Much of that truism results from people reacting emotionally to matters as opposed to intellectually. That is what we have
going on here.
I agree I don’t like it but I agree.
wasn’t the naacp speech on cspan? or somewhere else? if it’s on the net, i can rip an mp3.
I think over the next 2 years the Establishment is going to find out that we’re not as powerless as they would like to believe.
Didja notice how the quality of the language plummeted with the quality of thought at the lake from our *ahem* visitors?
I can rip an mp3 but I want the vid. Spoiled, he is.
I got to that thread late, thank goodness, and after I saw soldierofchrist the first time I went back to my 100yo scifi novel. It doesn’t take a lot of smarts to play video games or look at Hustler.
The difference between Warren and Wright is that Wright’s commentary is accurate, but deemed unpopular by the MSM and therefore, the people. Therefore, it was demanded that the remarks (and Wright personally) had to be publicly denounced by Obama. Warren is wrong and he is rewarded for it because half the people in the US are imbeciles.
It is right to keep pounding Obama on the Warren issue. Warren should be publicly denounced and removed from the Inaugeration schedule because he is a hateful biggot. Warren is an opportunistic infection on the American populace. He preys on the weak and ignorant. We must not relent. This is the kind of crap that Obama will continue to do if he can get away with it.
Who’s to say this isn’t a crazy chess move for Obama? Maybe his thoughts are to give Warren the national publicity/honor of the swearing in ceremony and the role as pastor to the White House, but in turn ask for softening of his rhetoric against gays and the eventual public support of gay rights (which would lead to support on the issue from all his minions). Warren would just be a pawn in Obama moving the whole country left on this issue…Again, it’s a HUGE maybe but I’m trying to stay positive.
I missed yesterday’s Really Big Blog, but looked at it this morning. Couldn’t even get through half of it.
Did anyone look at the site meter yesterday?
I hope at least Jane got a bump for her advertiser revenue.
that would be lovely. *g*
re video - i usually like audio only better (unless there is more info in charts/pics/etc) as i can concentrate better without the distraction of the video. weird, i know.
“Reading” Hustler would probably raise the IQ of the average Warren sheep.
The only thing left for me to do is not watch the inauguration. Which I won’t. I’ve made my feelings known to the Obama camp. I’ve got plenty of books calling my name and that time will be better spent with them. I might even listen to Rev Wright’s sermons again and watch the NAACP speech. I’ve got a feeling I’ll get more inspiration from him than Obama.
because this is the United Theocracy of America.
You’ll notice I said “look.” The only reading these trolls do is the captions for the photos.
At tjhis point my reaction to this Warren story is right outta Joe Biden’s book:”Who gives a shit?”
sorry.
Jane sounded and looked hot yesterday. How could anyone resist coming to FDL after that!
thank you fopr a post that isn’t about Dick warren.
that ws supposed to be in the next tread.
If I’m familiar with the speaker I’m satisfied with audio. Others I like vid so I can follow their facial expressions and hand movements. The NAACP speech has so many visual cues in it, e.g., the explanation of the different tone systems and his characterization of the FAMU/Grambling marching bands.
It’s sad, but I don’t blame you at all. This whole thing has gotten me heartsick. It might be easier if I weren’t a Christian. It might be easier if I was celebrating a totally material Christmas, but, oh no, I’ve got my faith and know I’m a little less joyful about the holiday. I know I shouldn’t give those other people the authority to bring me down, but, right now I’m sad.
It didn’t take me long to get there. Had my say. Time to MoveOn.
Glenn has a new post on a whole new subject upstairs: “Hoorays for Hilda: Secretary Designate Solis Embraced by Labor, Progressives”
demi @ 60
lol! A couple of people yesterday asked the visitors to click through on some ads!!!
Yup I am tired of the hipocrisy too. So tired. Obama’s got me upset but the real problem is Warren and his ilk and his extremism and mixing civil rights with moral choice. It needs to be exposed daily and that’s our job.
I kinda used to like Roland Martin on CNN. But the look on his face when Hilary Rosen challenged him that his denial of civil rights made Warren an inappropriate choice was very instructive. Martin just doesn’t get it at all, like, what’s the problem. Shrugged his shoulders! His blind spot really struck me because he’s always shown clarity about AA issues. There’s some kind of roadblock there I just can’t fathom: it’s so confusing. Aren’t civil rights for everyone???????
And yeah it appears Warren’s ok because he’s white even if he’s a hater. But Wright isn’t ok because he’s black seems to be the message. Maybe it’s worse because he’s black and he’s (rightly) questioning his country. But he’s not ’allowed’ to question the country of his masters. Feh.
This answer to your question is Alot of people give a shit. It might be better for you to read another thread. Doncha think?
Pretty much.
now you’ve got me interested in watching that one…. think i have some free time coming up on the 20th of next month *g*

Instead of an inauguration party we can have an ignoring gathering.
I’d prefer someone other than Warren giving the invocation, but I want to know who actually asked him to do it.
Was it the inaugural planning committee, which appears to be run by Congress, or was it Obama’s people?
sounds like a party to me!
http://www.wikio.com/video/699905
oops, forgot to hit ‘reply’ on 82

Elizabeth Alexander’s poem “I Believe”:
What’s the story behind this?
Got it now.
That would be great, but taken in context with Obama and FISA, Lieberman, Prop 8, Bipartisanship, $700 bil bankster gift, warmongering, support of the MIC, backpedalling on taxing the rich, I think its a not likely a Chess move in a way that we would appreciate.
Its a chess move to engage the Palin Right that will flop like a Kerry-Flip-Flopping Belly Flop off his windsurfing board.

136 deaths on the streets in a year!?! That’s outrageous!! Austin is not a one-horse town with no money. JHFC.
wadday mean? i just posting her last appearance before the austin city council.
i’ll check back later, was just posting little stuff, i have an appt at 4, gotta change.

oh, it was a reply to 42. i posted that in my next comment. sorry about the confusion.

I don’t care for either Warren or Wright. They’re religious bigots who play for different teams. As for Obama, I’m beginning to understand how the two or three decent people who voted for Bush in 2000 must have felt: Foul! I want my vote back!
Are any of you actually interested in policy or just tokens and symbolism? If you disagree with Warren speaking then by all means make that known to Obama. Put pressure on him to make him realize he shouldn’t take GLBT community for granted and that this choice is hurtful. But some are talking like Obama is the enemy all of sudden. Are you serious? Are you actually interested in changing policy or are you satisfied just nursing your grievances and percieved slights?
Nothing Obama has done is hurting the actual cause of GLBT rights. This won’t convert people who support GLBT rights to Warren’s side and, in fact, it may start the process of converting some people the other way. To get marriage for gays passed you only need 5 - 10% to change their minds and you aim for the least committed. Don’t make them defensive by alienating them. People refuse to be persuaded when they feel attacked but if they feel welcomed they are much more open to having their mind changed. I realize that some people feel attacked by Warren speaking but then Obama isn’t trying to change your mind now is he?
The idea that Obama has somehow thrown gays and lesbians under the bus by inviting Warren is ludicrous and short-sighted. I would be willing to bet anyone here that GLBT rights will advance more under Obama, especially if he gets 8 years, than under any previous President.
Hold him accountable. Push him to make those changes but don’t turn him into an enemy just because he “pals around” with someone you don’t like. Policy is what matters.
Welcome to the New Math of post-partisanship. The reason that Rick Warren is up there and not Jeremiah Right is very simple. In the new politics, we pander to the right, and we take the left for granted. After all, where are we going to go?
Warren’s appearance does create a problem for the right, by denying it the most important element of self-definition — that it is marginalized by leftists.
Obama is proving himself a uniquely ruthless pragmatist. We’ll see where it goes.
He trots this shit out much more and he may just end up a single term preznit.
But I’ll give him time.
I like that phrase.
No, I admire the phrase and am uneasy about what it says about tomorrow, and the next day, and the next…
Don’t remember seeing you around here before. Thanks for speaking up.
Indeed policy is what matters. And his policy is very clear. Lip service to me and mine but his heart belongs to the Fundies. No to same-sex marriage becuase (his words “God is in the mix.”
What “mix” is that? Bisquick?
Mike, you’re obviously straight or you’d know why the LBGT community is so enraged.
I never found Rev. Wright or his sermons objectionable! He spoke truth to power and in his case, he upset the white brotherhood, thus forcing Obama to throw him off the bus. I don’t believe that Obama would have been elected if he didn’t disown Wright, clearly he never needed Warren.
what is your justification for calling wright a religious bigot? could you give me a quote or something? thanks!
Funny. I could have sworn I read a comment you made the other day that stated you had no use for straights…I can’t remember the exact wording, but it was pretty strong.
So, why are even bothering talking to this guy?
I think I understand that you are very angry. Of course, I’ve never walked in your shoes. But, Mikeinthe moutainwest has a point that you maybe are missing. Your anger isn’t going to reach people who are on the fence and can be persuaded to a higher understanding of equal rights for all.
You have it exactly backwards. Lip service to them and his heart is with you. Having Warren give the invocation is the essence of lip service.
He hasn’t had a chance to make policy because he isn’t even President yet but when things like DADT are repealed on Obama’s watch maybe then you’ll see what Obama is trying to do and you’ll forgive him.
If GLBT rights aren’t advanced under Obama then I’ll join you.
You are right I’m straight, but I do understand the anger I’m just trying to remind people about the bigger picture. Take a clue from Obama, build bridges don’t burn them.
Those Prop8 demos grew out of Facebook pages — the Them who organize has got to be Us. Send the Obama camp your thoughts:

I kinda like this new flag. Two stars, for the two states with marriage equality in the USA.
http://www.queersunited.blogspot.com/
There is no bigger picture. This is IT.
d-
what do you think of lowery?
Umm… Really? All you care about with regards to gay rights is who speaks at the inauguration? You don’t care about DADT? Or marriage equality? Or anything else?
This is it for you?
Well if that’s case then IT looks like its over for you. Go ahead and wallow in despair.
And what on earth makes you think I “wallow in despair”?
I’ll be 62 in Feruary, and I’ve seen things you have no idea about. NONE.
President Elect Obama is an enemy of the gay community. Black Americans are not friends of the gay community. It is gutterly understood that right wing fundi White Christians are truely enemies of the gay community; but, political correctness, especially this past election year, gave the gay community pause in uttering the fact of the inherent Christian based gay racism in the Black community. Not some, not few, not here and there; but, most Black Americans are gay racists. Black Americans must be viewed for the enemy that they are of the gay community along side with their Christian White counterparts. The gay community must work to impede Black political interests and rights insofar as that is what Black Americans are doing unto gay interests. THEY ARE ALSO THE ENEMY.
Just as the gay community would do no less to obstruct the interests and rights of any conservative republican white or otherwise; the gay community must direct the same vigor to obstruct, and impede any political gains of the Black community. They have no qualms about doing as much to the gay community. The gay community must rise above the political correctness of aligning itself to a fellow Democratic Party faction and recognize Black America is as much an enemy as is as the Conservative right wing American. Let’s work to vote against any and all Black American political interests at every level; be it school board or the office of the presidency. Work as hard as possible to minimize their hateful bigotted gay racist influence.
There is no difference between a Black homophobe and a Conservative one.
Ask yourself would have Hillary Clinton invited such a vile gay racist to her inaguration. Obama not only threw the gay community under the bus; he condoned gay racist speech.
I regret voting for this man.
Not including “the Left”, there are two groups, not one, that are still okay to bash in this country: gays and non-believers.
So putting Rick Warren onstage gets a dig in at both the gay and the godless. It’s a two-fer — a thee-fer if you include the Left.
I haven’t given up on Obama. But this was a bullshit Sister Souljah moment, absolutely. You don’t choose Warren for this as a way to say thanks for an invitation that cost Warren nothing (despite all the stories of how Obama didn’t agree with him — big deal, Obama was a nobody at the time), you do this because you want to score political points.
And, I’m sorry, doing shit to score political points is part of what I thought Obama was going to get us past.
You want to score points with Warren fans? Wait until you’re in the White House for a month or two and invite him for tea. This invocation shit is bullshit.
Of course, ANY invocation is bullshit, but that’s a separate gripe…
