In case you hadn’t heard, that dastardly Iraqi journalist wasn’t just throwing his shoes at Bush. He was throwing them at the troops.
I’m sorry, but am I crazy to take a little offense in that shoe incident? On behalf of my president, on foreign soil. On behalf of my fellow countrymen and women. On behalf of the men and women serving in our armed forces who have made it possible for the “hero” of the story to fling shoes. On behalf of those same men and women, so many who respect and even love this commander-in-chief.
Hear, hear! I’m sure that mere words cannot possibly capture the outrage and shock our troops felt when they heard that their beloved commander-in-chief was insulted that way. (h/t TS)
“The Shoe Incident had barely been brought up among the soldiers all day. It wasn’t much of a priority, not compared to leave dates or the Cowboys-Giants game…
"Hey you see George was hit with a shoe?” a soldier had asked Monday morning, laughing and lumping eggs into his plate in the kitchenette of the company’s security outpost.
“George who?”
And that was mostly it for Monday. By the middle of the day most had heard about it, on the Internet, from wives back home, but it was more or less dismissed with “I can’t believe that, that’s some funny stuff” (or so paraphrased, for this is a family blog).
…
The next day, Lt. Miller told me that, out of nowhere, the man in the last house had announced that he wanted to apologize for the Shoe Incident, insisting that it not reflect poorly on all Iraqis.
I asked Lt. Miller what he said in return. He assured the man that it was OK, that they do not consider one Iraqi’s behavior indicative of the country, that this was what democracy can look like, etc.
And, he said, “I told him that a lot of the soldiers thought it was pretty funny.”
What would we do without true patriots like K-Lo, who always have their nimble, insightful fingertips on the pulse of the troops?

Where is K-Lo’s support of the troops when the troops have to buy their own bus tickets? Or when Bushco screws the troops and their families out of medical care and financial support?
At what point does the radical rights disconnect from reality become medically pathological? For K-Lo we must be getting pretty close. Do you think that life has become really confusing for them? Everything they think is proven wrong on a near daily basis. That is a hard way to live.
Oh, and to answer her question, yeah K-Lo you are completely batshit crazy. Just sayin’
“I told him that a lot of the soldiers thought it was pretty funny.”
And so is this:

Yes.
This has been another edition . . .
(h/t Atrios)
After 8 years of gutting Federal programs, the president will not have access to Post-Traumatic Shoe Syndrome counseling or therapy. Where’s the outrage?
yep, batshit crazy. poor woman.
For starters, *you* would have to work a lot harder to find things to post about, BT.
I’m pretty confident that threshold was crossed by or before 1994. Newt’s “Covenant With America,” was certainly symptomatic.
If the media is so liberal why aren’t the gop cult screaming for the fairness doctrine?
If anyone hears the “liberal” media baloney, mention re-enacting the fairness doctrine to give conservatives equal time.
Ha ha ha ha ha… they are such dopes.
If “President” Bush truly represented our country and not just his own interests, using our military to line his own pockets, if he were truly our head of state in every sense of the position, then I’d feel insulted. If our military had truly liberated Iraq and then LEFT, and our President was treated in this manner, then I would feel insulted.
However, after so many troops have been sacrificed for Bush’s War, and so many Iraqis have died because of Bush’s War, I would have to put myself in Iraqi shoes and think about what it would be like to have storm troopers bust into my house after dropping bombs all day. It wouldn’t take long to want to take those shoes off and throw them at the man responsible for bringing this atrocity down on my family.
And boy, aren’t the neocons crawling out of the woodwork to express their delight with Bush’s work? They are simply crazy. Like they are examining an ant farm or something.
Good point.
Soldiers find it kind of funny. I’d like to take a poll, and ask how many would have thrown a sand filled boot at him???
As for K-Lo, I love that delusional sociopath.
Actual text message i recieved on Monday from my son, Army Sgt. B.T., who served a 15 month deployment in Iraq in 2006-2007 and returns to Iraq for a 12 month deployment in January:
“Did you see the video of Pres Bush getting shoes thrown at him? It’s really funny.”
That’s awesome.
Clearly, he’s a phony soldier.
[/Limbaugh]
It is clear that the Iraqi press needs training- in accuracy–of shoe throwing. The trajectory and velocity, however, were first class.
As all quarterbacks learn, it’s important to LEAD your target a bit.
Is it fair that Dana Peroxide was the only person put on injured reserve as a result of this incident?
Dana was collateral damage.
Siun has a new shoe-throwing post up: “Why Was Shoe Thrower Kept from Court?”
If the thrower had a pocket full of baseballs we could have seen how he did with the high hard one- pretty well I’d guess.
So would all of you be talking the same way if Obama was standing up there. You and the rest of the media are treating this jerk like a hero. This shouldn’t happen to any foreign dignitary visiting. Hopefully he gets some stiff jail time. Guess he is lucky Sadam wasn’t there, pretty sure he would become intimately familiar with a wood chipper.
I can confirm that the scouts from 6-9 1st Cav thought the shoe toss was hilarious.
Cell call from son Monday (just arrived Kuwait).
One of his compadres mentioned the toppling of the Saddam statue. Shoes were employed by the locals who turned out for the toppling.
Lies! All lies!
As opposed to us being called traitors for daring to voice complaints?
Go take another look at all the GOP dministrations: they’ve done that several times, and every time we’ve been right and they’ve been lying through their bleached and straightened teeth.
If you look at my link at 3, you’ll see that the United States is the Number One Bush-Shoeing nation in the entire world. God bless the USA!
From a safe distance from any actual danger (and, thus, any actual active combat troops), of course!

Personally,
Fu** yeah, if Obama had made all the same choices and broken all the same laws and destroyed all the same lives and livelihoods that W and his administration have, I would indeed be saying the same things.
AFAIK, I’ve got lots of company around here in that sentiment.
I fully expect plenty of posters and commenters here at FDL to hold the new President accountable for his actions and policies using the same standards that have been, rightly, applied to the current one. I hope we’ll start out in a constructive vein, but that doesn’t mean we won’t be calling BS.

Except even Rachael Maddow did on Monday night. Or pretended to so well that I completely missed her irony/snark, shouted at the TV machine and finally just turned her off mid-segment.
Yeah, OK, he’s POTUS. He’s a head of state. He’s head of a state that is occupying another sovereign state in a messy, bloody, violent way and has the gall to make a personal visit proclaiming some sort of vicotry and to expect to be treated as though his office should shield him from any expression of the well-deserved outrage of those he and his policies and his soldiers and mercenaries have so wronged.
“you just don’t throw shoes at our President”. Yeah, well the Geneva Conventions and a lot of International Law–to which the US is signatory– says that “you just don’t X,Y,Z…”, and those X,Y,Zs are not only a bunch more serious than footwear flinging, this head of state persists to this day in perpetrating them and pretending he’s doing nothing wrong in perpetrating them.
Am I crazy in being offended by the overall lack of outrage (outside of Left-Blogistan) at what my Country has and is doing in my name?
FunnyDiva
that’s funny=peculiar today!
Ah, once again our Brave Patriots of the Right bravely use the troops as a human shield.
That’s very brave of K-Lo.
Still can’t see her in either of the three videos from different angles that I’ve seen.
