I read this yesterday and had a similar reaction. Whether these guys (Gerson and Sullivan) are delusional is an open question. it also sounds like she wasn’t in court when he alleged altercation occurred. She was standing at the metal detector outside. The muttered expletive, if it happened at all, was made to the rentacop in the hall, quite possibly he had already detained her for the hajib, and not to the judge in the courtroom. If she had caused a scene, then wouldn’t it have been more appropriate to charge her with disorderly conduct or disturbing the peace or resisting arrest, instead of dragging her into the chambers of some hang-’em-up high admin judge for an arbitrary 10 days in jail for contempt? The whole incident stinks of good ole southern rethug bigotry – mess with the oddly dressed black woman.

that God is somehow found especially incarnate in the poor, suffering and weak. Instead of being a “sentiment,” it is a conviction: that government can be a noble enterprise when it applies creative conservative and free-market ideas to the task of helping those in need.

Got here late but this says that God is a free marketeer. So I suppose this would be a sin to be against them.

every time I think that such a man as would order that type of crude barbarism somehow managed to become and remain the president of our country for eight terrifying and miserable years I shudder. Someone who blew up small animals as a kid and taunts a repentant death row inmate as a adult is more appropriately hospitalized in a nut house… and the fact that so many people in 2000 bought his ‘compassionate conservatism’ hogwash when all this evidence of psychopathy was already in the public domain makes it all the more disturbing.

Still a crock o shit imo. Especially since anyone can allege a muttered expletive. And contempt can be said to be shown by any number of subtle, subjective, non-verbal cues.

Sorry. I’m so tired of the Powers that Be expressing contempt for ordinary people while demanding smiles and joyful singing from us and punishing any lack thereof as “contempt” or some such.

Damn, I’m feeling subversive these days!
