Of all the campaign promises President Obama will break, this one probably worries me the least:

The soon-to-be 44th president made defusing partisan tensions in Washington a centerpiece of his campaign and promised to appoint more than one Republican to his team. So far, he hasn’t named a registered member of that party to his Cabinet or White House staff.

(…)

“I personally would like to see maybe three members of the Cabinet that are not considered members of the Democratic Party,” [Former Bush Press Secretary Scott] McClellan said.

I’m having trouble wrapping my head around this.  Obama not stocking his Cabinet with a bunch of Republicans is a bad thing???  Ironically, moderate Republican Jim Leach has the best perspective:

Former Representative Jim Leach, who headed a group of Republicans for Obama, was less concerned….

“There are a lot of factors that go into balancing, but the biggest challenge for any president is quality,” Leach said.

Amen.  After eight years of sacking the country, executive branch Republicans have done quite enough, thankyouverymuch.  How many Republicans would you trust to be more competent and less corrupt than a Democrat?

Of course, it does depend on the Democrat… which is why Sheila Bair of the FDIC is the first counterexample to come to mind.  Hell, Summers and Geithner should probably be counted as honorary Republicans, meaning Scottie McClellan can just STFU already (although he earns points for not saying "Democrat Party").

Oh look, Obama just picked Tom Vilsack for Secretary of Agriculture.  The non-Republican nightmare continues.
