Dismissing any notion that the country’s political center has shifted after the Democratic routs in 2006 and 2008, Bush turns to the Center-Right Nation canard in his interview with RCP.
"I still think we’re a right-of-center country," the President responded when asked whether the election offered proof that the ideological center of the country had shifted to the left.
And why do you say that, George?
"I think most Americans want their government to be effective, results-oriented, efficient," the President said.
Yes they do, which is why they keep voting against Republicans, President Katrinaburton. But does Bush really think center-left voters want their government to be ineffective, wasteful and inefficient?
What else ya got, George?
"They would like to pay as little a tax as possible. They want their military to be strong, viable, and effective. They want their public leaders to promote personal responsibility by living responsible lives. Most people are – from the cultural side, believe in an Almighty. The question is how you take those basic beliefs and explain them, either through policy or words, in a way where there’s common understanding."
Stunning. It’s literally like Bush is still living in the year 1999. The Almighty and personal responsibility? What about the economy, jobs, healthcare, energy independence, getting out of Iraq, the failed war in Afghanistan, etc., etc.? You know, the stuff Republicans keep losing elections on.
Overall, the President remained upbeat about his party’s political future. "I’ve got confidence we’ll come back, so long as we don’t abandon the core principles that enable us to win when we’re winning – which is low taxes, strong national defense."
The good news for Democrats is that Bush is articulating what the GOP’s Palin-Limbaugh base really believes. If only they get back to talking about tax cuts and terra and keepin’ the gubmint outta the way — with a little God talk sprinkled in for flavor — they’ll be just fine.
Good luck with that.

Cut taxes? I never saw that one coming.
Wiping liquids off monitor.
Bush also believes he’s kept the honor and dignity of the office intact, too. pfft.
The disconnect from reality is mind boggling.
Just. Go. Away.
How many more days until this loser is gone? Fuck you, Shrub.
34 days, 13 hours and 13 minutes.
perhaps bush speaks a language that sounds greatly like english, but where words like “right” and “dignity” mean something else entirely?
Steve McMahon said recently on Hardball:
“[Bush] hasn’t debased an intern, but he has debased the US Constitution…”
I like the banner in the photo above but have a problem with the punctuation. Shouldn’t that colon be a comma?
the republicans, including reagan, have raised taxes not lowered them, they have weakened national defense not strengthened it, they have taken personal responsibility from the wealthy and had the middle class pay all their bills

Bush and reality are two words that never fit together. He obviously “makes his own reality.”
For most of us however, Bush’s “reality” is what is defined as either delusional or fantasy.
Bush is an unfeeling, uncaring psychopathic moron. He is also a liar, a traitor, a Nazi, a war criminal and a babbling fool.
To pay as little tax as possible we need government to regulate industry after all if you don’t regulate until a disaster happens well on ounce of prevention/regulation is cheaper than a pond of cure.
Also to have an effective military we need plans based on facts not personal or political desires.
If a general says we need more troops listen to him. If the CIA can’t find Iraqi links to Ossama, WMD, or proof that Niger sold Iraq Uranium then do not invent these stories because they further your political goals.
Just because Iraq has oil does not mean you invade them and let Ossama live.
Government regulation means having a plan! You Bush are the man with no plan.
Don’t get too impatient. Indiana’s Evan Bayh is going to resurrect the Gang of Fourteen in the Senate, and become forever known as the House Equivalent of the Blue Dogs in the Senate. And I am sure the Lieberman will be found among Bayh’s Supremely Annointed. However, my favorite Senator from Colorado, now being appointed Secretary of the Interior will be MIA, and thank goodness for his nomination. Thus, the worst sight in America is to see any of my fellow Democrats whining and complaing for being treated meanly by Rachel Maddow’s now-famous Plantation Caucus.
And perhaps, my Democrats will implode in the Senate due to Bayh’s efforts, and if so, Senate Majority Reid will not be able to provide the effective leadership necessary and vital for Party Unity in order to reject the filibustering that the Right will soon become famous for.
Sadly, should Bayh become successful in this endeavor, the anticipated “modernizing initiatives” slated for the Rez will become non-existent given that a President Obama’s “change” agenda, will collapse and die a quick political death, and much to the delight of the Right.
Consequently, Bayh should become known as the Front Man for the Right.

Fixed it for ya
Tax cuts! How original and inspired! George W Bush is a genious! He ought to run with this.
i just love it when bush lectures me about personal responsibility.
The really funny thing about this W interview is that he is more moderate & articulate about what the Rs should do than any other high ranking Rs. W is the only “voice of reason” left in the R leadership. Bwahahahahaha.
perfect!
I swear to whatever that there’s a string with a pull ring on it inserted in this moron’s back. Pull the string it spits out a talking point. No brains required. Batteries and puppeteer extra.
If you keep repeating your affirmations/magic spell/Pixes are real it will come true! Magic Thinking People hope without the need to change or accept reality.
Marx was right about religion practiced this way being the opiate of the masses.
Bush’s Presidency is all about action taken in belief failing but no acknowledgement is made of the Failure.
The Emperor has no Clothes!
Bush the voice of reason? Thats like playing old time country music to a man looking to jump off a bridge.:)
Yep makes me feel like a teenager!
My point exactly.
BTW, do you know what you get if you play country music backwards?
This is the President’s brain on Drugs!
I wrote an oxdown diary on this yesterday. It having already fallen off the radar I doubt that this constitutes blogwhoring. I finally realized something fundamental about Bush. I always thought his statements were divorced from reality and inconsistent to the point of incoherency. But in his exit interview with Martha Raddatz, it suddenly struck me that all Bush narratives begin with the simple premise that it, whatever it is, is not his fault. This is backwards from what we usually think. Bush doesn’t give reasons weak as they might be to show something is not his fault. He starts with the idea that it is never his fault and spins his narrative backwards. So say if Iraq is not his fault, then that must mean that Iraq has been a success, etc., etc.
Same thing with “right” and “honor”, since it can’t be his fault if things were done that were wrong and dishonorable, it stands to reason that they did not happen no matter how much evidence there is that they did happen and Bush was responsible for them. If you look at what Bush is saying from this point of view, there is an incredible consistency in his narratives.
No but honestly I like the old stuff its real. The new stuff lacks soul.
Your right Bush has a blind spot he can’t think about. I’m certain he has more blind spots though.
Anyway tell me the joke
Your wife comes back, your rent gets paid, you find your dog, and your car gets fixed.
I swear the reverse is a lyric off a song I like and can’t remember the name!
Companion joke:
What do you get if you play New Age music backwards?
New Age music.
Good one:)
South Park has an episode on DVD where Cartman forms a Christian rock band you might like.
Marcy has a piece up over @ emptywheel
Rahm’s 21 Conversations with Blagojevich and Friends?
but where does the idea that nothing be his (bush’s) fault come from? still divorced from reality – just a different aspect of reality (actions have consequences).
should be:
If I were ANY ivy league school that claimed this moron as an alum, I would be lobbying the board of regents to have the good sense to RECALL the degree they must have mailed to him..
WHAT a loser !!!
Cheney and Bush – The Organ Grinder and his monkey. On Sunday we can say “less than 30 days”.
Don’t they understand that things (electricity, defense, roads, safe water, food, etc) cost money? Tax money.
They wouldn’t expect to pay lower fees to a really ritzy gated community than they pay in a less secure place.
Fixed. That’s not gubmnit’s problem — those are on you.
Yes exactly, especially since he has a business degree. The president of that university should have immediately recalled that degree when george bush said, “we’re just in a little slow down right now”
those living in gated communities don’t need gov’t services… they have private companies taking care of their needs… i found this out when they had the fires in cali….
Eli a few flights upstairs on Darth Cheney
