Dick Cheney predicts that Obama will be his Mini-Me:
Vice President Dick Cheney said Monday that President-elect Barack Obama will "appreciate" the expansions of executive power achieved during the Bush administration and is unlikely to cede authority back to Congress.
"Once they get here and they’re faced with the same problems we deal with every day, then they will appreciate some of the things we’ve put in place," Cheney said during an interview on Rush Limbaugh’s radio show.
Translation: "We have fucked everything up so thoroughly that only a dictator could ever even hope to fix it."

Can we turn the man-sized safe into a holding cell? Make Cheney explain every single frickin’ piece of paper and electronic media in there.
I can already hear the howling from the neoCons if and when Obama starts going all neoCon on their ass.
Hey Eli.
Isn’t it exciting that Darth is doing a Magical History Tour, too? I’m choosing shoes right now….
“they will appreciate some of the things we’ve put in place” – like what, Dick? Two wars that can’t be won at the cost of billions of dollars and thousands of American lives and tens (if not hundreds) of thousands of Iraqi and Afghani lives? Those sort of things that you’ve ‘put in place’? Or is it the spying network that you put into place? Or the superb email retention system that you put into place? Or the completely incompetent federal emergency management system that you put into place? Or a completely corrupted and empty DOJ that you put into place? Or the rapidly ‘being sucked down the sewer into a Depression’ economy that you put into place? Which of these things that you put into place is the next administration going to ‘appreciate’? Hmmm? I think the answer is: NONE OF THE ABOVE.
Given that Cheney has been wrong about everything and is well known as a world class liar; I this statement from him somewhat reassuring.
appreciate” the expansions of executive power achieved during the Bush administration and is unlikely to cede authority back to Congress.
why do you think Obama voted for FISA.
In the modern era of American politics people aspire to become President precisely so they can be an imperial President. Obama is going to enjoy the fruits of Unitary Executive Theory, because he became President so that he could do just that.
He’s not special. He’s just a politician.
After Jan 21, Cheney is going to start a think tank dealing with the role of delusion in govt.
Obviously with Bush as the figurehead front person rigth?
I think something is lost in traslation. They have taken so much power that the pres becomes ineffect a dictator, answerable to no one. The next dictator/pres could easily change the rules if he wants to, cause he now has that power. He does not have to become a dictator, his accendency to the whitehouse is becoming a dictator. What he is saying is that Obama will have so much power, he can give it back if he wants to, but hes not gonna want to.
gonna REALLY appreciate the ability to lock people away with just a presidential declaration that the person is an “Unlawful Enemy Combatant”
did dead eye dick ever think of that ???
does anybody get the idea that cheney is a LOT dumber than he sounds ???
if he ends up in a dog kennel, he might want to retink that theory …
Cheney demonstrates his absolute ability to consider alternatives.
Ding ding ding!
doesn’t the attempt to destroy the American industrial base make Richard Shelby and the rest of the Senate GOP “enemy combatants”?
Darth, help me out on that….
I don’t care if it takes a democrat frigging up for congress to find their balls
if obama wants to keep this power I want congress to impeach him, and believe me, with reid and lieberman judas goats siding with the repukelicans, this can easily happen
and I welcome the prospect
How much to I LOVE LOVE LOVE that photoshop?
Way cool
I opened the DIGG and commented there.
Thank you, Eli.
Great comments. I can’t tell if crazy Darth is boasting or pleading for understanding/mercy. Sorry, Darth, all out of both for you, W, Addington, Yoo, Rummy, Wolfewitz, and the whole PNAC gang. I hope all of you end your days in maximum confinement with all your ill-gotten fortunes confiscated to pay funds for the orphans and widows created by these obscene wars you lied us into.
Cheney, sinister until the end. But as Broadstreet buddy writes, Cheney’s only stating the obvious in regards to Obama’s ascendency to the WH. It’ll now be up to the legislative branch to limit the expansion of executive power. Who thinks an all Dem House and Senate will do that? Yeah, me neither.
I guess we’ll see how much Obama appreciates what Cheney/Bush have done if he starts attaching signing statements to bills he signs.
O/T (kinda) One of our local radio stations took requests yesterday in honor of the shoe thrower. This is my favorite:
US Blues
Red and white/blue suede shoes
I’m Uncle Sam /how do you do?
Gimme five/I’m still alive
Ain’t no luck/I learned to duck
Once they get here and they’re faced with the same problems we deal with every day…
Yeah, like “How can we rob the nation and enrich our close friends, while avoiding jail”. Problems like that?
I find it very hard to believe that Dick Cheney has ever – EVER – thought of anything beyond himself and his country club pals. The notion that he ever thinks about the nation is laughable.
It’s called the George W. Bush Freedom Institute at Southern Methodist University (or, at the present rate of fundraising, in shrub’s garage)
The legislative branch long ago voluntarily gave up their power to wage war and to tax. The only power they have left is to spend.
o/t michael gerson claiming that the shoe thrower obviously prefers Saddam over Bush. I mean, can’t we despise both?
Awesome twolf graphic.
somehow, the glasses make it look even creepier, you know?
If I throw my shoes at Gerson, does that mean I prefer Bush?
Gerson: tool.
Exactly buddy, and the only thing congress can agree on is to do absolutely nothing on almost every issue. Oh and to ‘work’ no more than two days a week.
so OB is toast here on the lake????
What makes you think that? No sign of it, unless he actually does intend to keep and use the powers that Darth has tried to pull into the presidency.
Then we should by all means stand up for the Constitution if Obama is abusing it, just as we’ve tried to do while Darth and Little Boots were abusing it.
looseheadprop upstairs
just reading the combined comments on the lake……
no, this the explanation of every psychopath who is confronted with horrified reactions to their actions: if you could do what i am doing, you’d do it, too. you’re just jealous.
no, dick, i don’t want to torture people, and i wouldn’t if i had the chance. sorry.
Cheney embodies the fear expressed by Jefferson concerning aristocrats, the Republic’s welfare and constitutional usurpation in the lust for endless profit. Corporate Aristocrats have been bleeding and continue in the gutting of America. Now all pay the price for their greed. A system of governmental checks and balances has been gamed by corpo aristocrats.
Wrong side of the force
I think that only the Jedi called their apprentices Padawan. The Sith just called the one apprentice they could have at any one time, the “Apprentice”.
Sure it’s just nit-picking, but this is the Internet. You can’t get even the least thing related to Star Wars wrong on the Internet.
