Dana Perino got a black eye from a microphone. Can we see a picture of that, too?

Bush looked a little scared after the episode; no smirk.

Interestingly, I think this incident says more about what Iraq has become than what Bush did to Iraq. A place where you can actually insult leaders and live to see another day. Ironically, an act of protest reassures the goals of the person he is protesting.

See the Dicta.

Good on the Iraqi! Should have been something a little more substantial than a pair of shoes. He should not have been allowed to step on Iraqi soil; not after the death and destruction he brought to the Iraqi people.

When I read your comment about Imelda, I thought of ET in the closet with the stuffed animals. Bush isn’t that cute, though.

A longer report? I hope not ’cause it took a long time to read this one. It is so full of corruption and incompetence; it is sickening. Iraq is broken and the US broke it. That was the plan from the start..invade and occupy and control the oil.

A billion has turned out to be pocket change. No one knows how many millions just one member of the CPA scammed. The story of Robert J Stein Jr. starts on page 338 of the report.

An Iraqi man throw a shoe at Bush’s head. That is an insult over there. Well, I’d say that was deep anger over here.

The carefully planned trip was not entirely free of surprises, as the president held a joint news conference Saturday with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.

An Iraqi man at Maliki’s palace threw a shoe at Bush during the appearance. The man was grabbed and dragged out of the room screaming.

The shoe sailed right past the president’s head.

Bush joked about it, saying, “That was a size 10 shoe he threw at me, you may want you to know.”

The man’s screams were still audible after he had been taken to a separate room.

Displaying the soles of one’s shoes is considered a deep insult in much of the Arab world.

Just heard that a member of the audience of Bushie and the President of Iraq in Baghdad THREW A SHOE at Bush that barely missed his head…this of course is the height of disrespect in the Middle East…

Bush apparently picked it up and quipped that it was a “size 10 1/2″…ever the joking locker room asshole our prez!

I hope the full unexpurgated report gets out. One telling point is after Garner was appointed he told Rummy that reconstruction would cost at least $1 billion. Rummy said…”No way we’re gonna send a billion dollars into that place.”

And I hate to say this, but maybe they should start making people take off their shoes wherever Bush appears…otherwise he could end up like Imelda Marcos’ closet!

There is a 508 page report(PDF)…The Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction (SIGIR). Bush should be kept in Iraq and forced to walk around every day and look at what he did..not that he would care, but the Iraqi people might have some fun watching him sweat and maybe dodge IEDs or something similar.
http://graphics8.nytimes.com/p.....iginal.pdf

It was all a plan to invade for oil. A few key points to illustrate that it was never the plan to have proper reconstruction of Iraq.

- In the fall of 2001, Bush and Rumsfeld started planning the Iraq War Plan.
- Early in April 2003, Scooter Libby asked Bremer to lead the Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA) before Jay Garner arrived in Baghdad.
- On April 21/03, Gen Franks cancelled the deployment of 50,000 additional combat troops.
- May 6/03, at a private dinner, Bush told Bremer he was no longer in favour of a short occupation.
- Within days of arriving on May 12/03, Bremer disbanded the army. General Petraeous later said that the order to disband the army fueled the nascent insurgency in Iraq.
- Gen Franks during the spring and summer of 2003, withdrew US Army Engineer units that could have played significant roles in reconstruction.
- Reconstruction projects were not awarded until March 2004. The contracts were awarded to US/UK companies.
- Two oil contracts..Parsons Iraq Joint Venture..$800 million and KBR..$1.2 billion.

No surprise, but it was Rumsfeld that insisted that everything be run by Defense. The MIC is alive and well. Iraq was allowed to fall apart so that the US had the justification to stay and gain control of Iraq’s oil.
