David Shuster just made a good point on Countdown — why didn’t the Plantation Caucus (that’s what I’m calling them now, after Maddow) demand Cerberus Capital put money into GMAC/Chrysler in exchange for a loan?
Although Cerberus owns 80% of now troubled Chrysler Corporation, it has refused to inject cash into Chrysler, as Sen. Bob Corker pointed out at a hearing about the economic needs of the American automobile industry on December 4, 2008. In response to questioning at a hearing before the House committee on December 5, 2008 by Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite, Chrysler President and CEO Robert Nardelli said that Cerberus’ other fiduciary obligations to its other investors and investments prohibited it from injecting capital.
So the Plantation Caucus accepts that Cerberus (a huge private equity firm that made a bad investment) has "other fiduciary obligations," but assemblyline workers who have to pay their bills in tough economic times do not?

You can’t break the union if C doesn’t go down with GM. Let’s get our priorities straight.
I’ll take Greedy Racism for $500, Jane!
What is the Plantation Caucus and Cerberus Capital both Hate the Unions?
I read somewhere yesterday that the bill had some pretty big tax breaks in it for the likes of Cerberus and AIG, but it not easily deciphered in the text of the bill. Not for legal luddites such as myself anyhow.
Well, that would make sense. Feed the rich.
You’re not up-to-date with your Jeopardy references. All $$ values have been even multiples of 100 for quite awhile now.
Probably amounted to much more than the amount of the auto loans. If so, would only confirm the radical anti union sentiment of the GOPers… in spite of their rich Cerberus brethren.
ANyway, for that, if true, I am glad the bill didn’t make it… and disappointed the House passed it under the cover of a loan for Autos.
We should expect that tax loophole to pop up in another bill sometime soon.
Digg it for Jane!
Workers as shareholders – that’s too damn close to communism for anyone in the Plantation Caucus.
Well Pups just to let you know DIGG is now Open!!
I’m not sure, but I think that’s Harry Reid that Cerberus is attacking here.
Dam We did it again Neuro!!! Double Digging again!!
Hey Lurk delete my Digg Comment will you please??
Oh yeah that would have helped Blue Collar Workers! Can’t have any of that now can we!!
yeah, you stepped on my Digg again nahant!
but I like your Digg spirit!
Plantation Caucus. Has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it? Thaaaat’s a keeper.
Sorry Neuro here is one for you!
It’s perfect, in spite of the fact it makes me want a Mint Julip.
I’ll drink to that. In fact, my glass is empty. Time for a refil.
Be back later Pups it’s time to cook dinner! Pork fajitas with home made spicy beans!!
Insert potato(…e) joke here.
Sounds yummy! I will invite myself over! ;-)
Enjoy. Sounds great.
I had boeuf bourguinoine that I made a whole roaster full of about a month ago & froze in single serving containers. Worth the one-time work for a long series of good meals.
Why doesn’t Dan Quayle grow some huevos and protect the Nation he once swore an oath to protect and defend? Did he have his fingers crossed behind his back when he took his oaths? Greater loyalty to a small number of rich bastards.
What size pot did you start with?
This is why I’m home tonite and not up there in it…! ;-)
Hope everybody saw Thom Hartmann on Countdown tonight. He has this whole union busting thing down to a T. What I wonder is why do the Rethug dinosaurs think they have done themselves and their party any good. They hate Americans, they hate workers, the foreign car companies are nearly as screwed as the big 3 because NOBODY CAN BUY CARS. The real differences between the foreign manufacturers and the US car companies are EXECUTIVE pay and health insurance. These senators are brain dead and I guess, judging from McConell’s recent re-election, so are their constituents. Sorry Kentucky and for that matter Alabama and Connecticut, but you keep electing these traitorous crooks for some reason. The rest of the country will pay for your sins. But this should guarantee Obama a second term.
LOL. The recipe is for a party. 8 pounds of beef. I started with the largest skillet I have, and ended up with a roaster pan filled to the very top. It took only 6 hours. I obviously never made the recipe before, and I bought a freezer in September exactly so I could cook interesting dishes for myself, then freeze them for long term enjoyment. Well, next time I make it, I’ll look for a recipe with smaller quantities. Still working out the kinks in my freezer scheme.
It’s beautiful. What’s the temperature?
Someone told me tonight’s the biggest full moon since 1993. It sure is gorgeous.
The senators are in it for power and riches for themselves and their base (you know, the haves and the have mores). They could give a FF about the voters.
And yes, I saw Hartman. He was great.
I’m about 18 months away (doG willing in this economy) from paying off my mortgage.. and boy oh boy, is a freezer high on my list of home improvements when that money is freed up.
Thom done good! Too bad there aren’t more dim pols who get their chance on the idjit box who do as well…..lots of time they just make things worse. Of course, when they get to bloviate (sp?) forever on the floor of the house or senate, sound bites are not in their *skill* set. Rendell sure did a botch-up job today. :-(
I was looking forward to seeing it tonite up close and personal, alas not to be and the clouds are obscuring it here at sea level… That site has the temps posted too…
I bought a chest freezer, as I’m single and thought that would be plenty. Marion in Savannah bought an upright for convenience (she didn’t want to bend over & dig). Had I to do it over again, I’d do what Marion did. First of all, my freezer is full, and I didn’t do fruits, as I bought it after most of the seasons were over. I did go nuts on soups, and of course, BB. But it is a drag to find stuff in the chest. It cost on $250, and I didn’t price the bigger one, but the convenience would probably be worth it.
Also, make sure you don’t buy a frost free. Not only does it use a lot more electricity, but frost free works by increasing the temperature to the point at which the fan will evaporate the moisture. You don’t want that to happen to your food that’s in long-term storage.
Also read a book about how to manage it. Here’s my recommendation. Another important point is to keep an inventory of what’s in it, update it every time you add food or subtract it. Otherwise, you’ll end up with stuff that’s really old in the back or bottom

In addition to general instructions on canning, freezing, drying, pickling, I’ve tried several of the recipes and like them. My favorite preserve recipe is on p. 204.
Oh, ES, congratulations on paying off your mortgage. It will feel great.
Will check out the temp.

About what I’d expect: you can’t possibly ezpect people with lots of money to actually use it.
(I keep being told that that’s how they keep score: the amount of money they think they own. I don’t understand that, but I don’t have that kind of money, either.)
Over @ Emptywheel, I posted a YouTube link to Ry Cooder for EW and her recent posts. Here’s a link for Jane and all she’s been doing on this issue, Tom Petty with I Won’t Back Down.
