President Elect Barack Obama’s Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel had “multiple conversations” with Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich about filling Obama’s vacant Senate seat, Chicago’s Fox affiliate reports, citing an unnamed source. Emanuel purportedly passed a list of candidates for the seat that were acceptable to PEBO.
As noted last night by MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann, and reinforced today by Salon’s Alex Koppelman, the mere fact that Rahm or anyone else on the Obama team spoke with Blago doesn’t mean there was anything nefarious going on. The law certainly allows for talking about preferences. There is only a problem if there was some sort of negotiated pay-for-play, or if staffers were solicited for bribes and failed to report it to the proper authorities.
As the governor’s tirade about “appreciation” seems to indicate, Team Obama wasn’t playing Blago-ball. Today’s Washington Post also stresses how hard the Obama campaign worked to put distance between Barack and Blagojevich.

As much as Rethugs continue in their efforts to paint Obama as some sort of co-conspirator with the ugly governator Blago, I don’t believe they have a leg to stand upon with their vague and unbeleivable accusations.
meant to say “unbelievable”
And as EW has noted, Rahm hasn’t flat-out denied that he went to Fitzy to tell him about Blagojevich’s pushing pay-to-play. He just said it was “overzealous reporting”.
In other words: Blago tried shaking down Rahm, but Rahm didn’t bite, instead going straight to Fitz or the FBI — only to find out that they’d bugged Blago’s office and knew all about it, but asked him not to talk publicly about tipping them off, not until they had finished dealing with the huge curveball this new idiocy of Blago’s presented them.
The whole tenor of the case against Blago — a case they’d been pursuing since 2002 — now changes, and it takes a LOT of work to go over six years of documents to rewrite them to take Blago’s latest stupidness into account.
The blathering MSM that is making all the noise against Obama are assuming that there was pay for play discussed and that if there was it wasn’t reported to Fitzgerald. If they had reported it to Fitzgerald wouldn’t he have wanted them to not talk about it.
First of all, how is this news? The fact that the indictment listed candidates 1-5, with one being Obama’s preferred choice, obviously implied that there was at least some communication of what Obama’s preferences were. Makes sense that Rahm would deliver that message.
So wouldn’t this fit in nicely with previous speculation that Rahm tipped off the Feds to Blago? I’m thinking that Rahm had talked to Blagojevich in order to express Obama’s preferences for the seat, and Blagojevich tried to see what he could “get” for Obama’s preferred candidate. Hopefully, once Rahm knew that Blagojevich was serious, he passed that info on to the proper authorities.
OT the Vatican has come out with another whacky document detailing its position on stem cells and embryos and such.

Good to see that it finds irrelevancy no obstacle.
One would think that Blago’s amateur hour antics would not have impressed Rahm, despite their similar penchants for language usage and arm twisting.
Any of these “questions remain” morons* got any ideas WHY Obama would want something out of the picking of his successor? What exactly he would want? From whom?
*(And boy, “questions remain” is a prhase I haven’t heard in, oh, eight years or so. Can’t imagine what changed during that period compared with now or, I don’t know, the eight years previous.)

msnbc just announced that gm is going to cut production by 250,000 vehicles, will temporarily ‘close/shut down’ 21 plants. (’close/shut down’ not sure which words she used..and they didn’t say which vehicles’ production will be cut back.)
OT with apologies, regarding present bigwhitehouse resident:
Giving/gave a [graduation?] speech at TX A&M today. I have never seen the jaw wag sideways so much before. Thot himself wuz gonna throw it outta joint. Looked as if he had to keep his mouth clamped shut tw’
sentencesutterances to keep from becoming unhinged.Used the word A$$ (unbleeped) to cheer on the graduating students at one point, followed by his trademark ‘heh heh heh.’
video was on MSNBC &/or CNN. Sorry no link for such important news.
The lad apparently might be under some considerable pressure lately.
Since when is someone looking for a job in return for support so unusual? How did Heck of a job Browny get his job? Shall we look at Shrubs Ambassadors? They all have some kind of expertise? Where was the MSM then?
(george allen-macaca-virginia giving a speech about free choice act and other things on c-span. wish i would have taped it. waht a list, all of the new talking points, one by one. just tried to act ‘casual’ bringing up ronald reagan, must be a gop virus..or te new jesus.)
blago’s an amateur, makes the professionals look bad.
Blago is the demo version of Palin, he’s just not “cute”.
How about “mounting questions”" Bunch of these maroons have been using that term along with “some” and “I’m curious”.
Yeah, I saw that too. The Red Beanie Boys hard at it condemning any advances in science that might threaten their vise grip on the faithful. My father, a non-Catholic married to one, used to joke that the Vatican is always busy trying to drag Catholicism from the 15 century into the 16th. Not a joke but reality.
He may be up on cell block #9.
one more thing about sen allen—this is sounding like a policy stump speech; wonder what he is up to?
seriously. says he’s backing donald bowling, but he’s launching something.
he’s even bringing up ireland’s tax structure in reference to their education structure and now comparing it to virginia’s..
speaking at the conservative women’s foundation at heritage. he’s not ‘talking’down’ to them, like he normally does to women. he’s up to something.
allen/palin 2012?
‘dmac predicts’
now that was cruel.
rofl.
omg!!
that was more cruel.
rofl.
he’s a combination of mickey rooney and george stephanopalus or john travolta. and the mad magazine guy.
gotta go

How about Erik Estrada?
If Rahm didn’t have multiple conversations with Blagojevich I’d think he was asleep at the switch. His job is to take care of this kind of thing. Like I read somewhere this morning — it’s time again for the “Clinton rules.”
That’s it! Erik Estrada’s brains and Mad Magazine Guy’s great good looks.
yep, that works!
OT Breaking per MSNBC Harris, Blago’s asst also named in Fitz’s complaaint has resigned.
I would not be surprised to learn that Rahm Emanuel had been trying to work a deal with Blagojevich. Rahm makes a used car salesman seem like an icon of integrity in comparison.
As a commenter at Talking Points Memo asked, if there’s a wiretap transcript of any conversation between Blago and Emanuel, would mainstream newspapers be able to print even one word, or would it be one big [expletive deleted]?
no source, no story. Why even discuss a story that does not have named sources?
