Embattled (embattled—who am I kidding?—more like "doomed") IL Governor Rod Blagojevich turned 52 today—let’s see what the great team here at Firedoglake got him:
President Elect Obama to Blagojevich: Resign
Hey, Jesse, when the best you can do is offer your sister’s confidence, that’s not a good sign.
Candidate 5 is thought to be Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr.
Is an indictment on the horizon?
Deputy Governor Greenlee resigns; emptywheel catches the other shoe. . . .
The AP kicks off the rightwing meme-fest.

Heh, we’re the Blago Blog… 24/7…! ;-)
Bag Blago!
Ha! Like the fact that the right wing thinks that they can use this to impeach Obama…ratsa ruck with dat! The don’t seem to realize that a) they have far fewer partisans in the House and Senate that back when Newt went after Clinton, and b) if Fitz was recording these calls then the fact that he hasn’t gone after “Senator” Obama for offering Blago a bribe says millions.
Blago, in the released tape transcripts, quite clearly is grumbing about getting nada…nuttin’…jack…from the Obama Administration for nominating a particular candidate…except for a little congratulations, that is. So when is one “guilty” when approached by a crook and offered, but deny. to participate in a crime. I guess that’s just so outside the Republican way of thinking that they assume “offer > acceptance”. It’s second nature to them! So they think “everyone must do it like we do!”.
OT: but ouch! You go Leahy!

Dow 4,000. Food shortages. A bubble in Treasury notes. Fortune spoke to eight of the market’s sharpest thinkers and what they had to say about the future is frightening.1 of 8 Nouriel Roubini
This an interesting 8 part story, where we are for how long and where we are going economically.

Fritz and other ethical prosecuters should be tasked with a “purge” of the corruption in government. Sadly Blagojevich is an example of business as usual where insider elite make the decisions for “We the People”.
Power corrupts and without oversight it grows. Trading favors is really the rule in politics. Example the letter Leahy wrote to Specter asking for consideration for the support he had given for a entourage trip abroad.
It crosses party line.
Progressive side of the Dem party have not been infected with politics as usual. Whether political brand the rule of law and ethical standards should apply. Far as I am concerned Blagojevich is guilty at least of being less sophisticated in deception techniques.
Hey, at least we aren’t faced with corruption withdrawal!
Call this the Corruption Transition Team, no?
