Good morning.

Reyes wants U.S. intelligence chiefs to stay in place under Obama, according to democracynow.

How about they can stay if Reyes steps down, and gets replaced with somebody who would actually do the damn job?

Scott Turow IS good reading. I’ve read many of his novels. My favorite was Personal Injuries. If anyone is suffering burnout from reading too many non-fiction books this year, and I’m not saying you should be, I would suggest picking up a Turow novel. Good for you folks who are stuck in the house during coldish winter days.

I just tuned in as they were finishing that item, so I might have missed something. There was an “for at least 6 months” modifier, but I don’t get it either. The only way to get U.S. reputation back is to strip all the top spy dogs of their jobs instantly.

Oh wait, I get it. It’s behind the scenes push back from CIA. They’ve been at it hammer & tongs. Placing stories in NYT, etc. Remember the complaints about how the lefties torpedoed an Obama candidate? Someone (Glenzilla?) had a long post about how the CIA orchestrated the push back. Reyes is just another messanger.

Sad day in the Tampa Bay area. Vicki Santa, station manager of WMNF Community Radio since 1998 died yesterday morning. Diagnosed with cancer a couple years ago she went into renal failure 2 weeks ago. Vicki started volunteering at WMNF shortly after the station went on the air in 1979. She was the driving force behind building a state-of-the-art radio station. Listener-supporters of the station raised well over $1M to build the beautiful and green station that now graces Martin Luther King Jr Blvd in Tampa. She will be missed but never forgotten. I’ve spent many an hour at the station during the twice yearly fund raising marathons and Vicki was always there. She knew all the volunteers by name. When then FL state Senator John Grant pulled state grant money from the station after it aired Iris Dement’s “Wasteland of the Free,” Vicki quickly organized a 24 hour marathon that raised more money than the annual grant from the state. Just after Katrina Vicki organized another 24 hour marathon that raised over $140K for distribution to aid organizations. I’m proud to say that I took the last call that evening. We will always love you Vicki.

Trying to remember what of his I’ve read…..it’s so very kind of you to offer but I’m blessed to be able to afford books in that vein. If your local library will actually put it on the shelves, would much prefer that others can have the exposure. *multiple smooches*

NYS rep Peter King-R is going for the NYS senate seat in 2010, regardless of whoever D Paterson picks to replace Hillary. I don’t remember anything about King, offhand, but apparently Guiliani would support him.

As for whether or not Obama or his people were involved:

Fitz said yesterday to read the 78-page indictment. If it’s not there, he said, it’s not there. That is, it didn’t happen. Guess what? Obama’s not there.

Yep. She was indeed priceless. Vicki co-hosted the Freak Show on Tuesday evenings. She and her co-host Ed “Dead Head” Green loved the Grateful Dead. She as also a big fan of Ellen McIlwaine. I held up pretty well until Ed came on last night. Due to her illness she resigned as station manager in June but we would see her at events when she was able. She was on with Ed just before she went into the hospital. Very special lady. She gave up a very lucrative career as a building contractor in the mid 80s to take the job of Development Coordinator. The listening area of WMNF owes an unpayable debt to Vicki and her vision.

Sorta related….saw an article somewhere just this week about how food pantries in this country are trying to incorporate more fresh food in their offerings and assorted other innovative techniques to get more food (that people actually want to eat vs. some of the canned stuff they may not use) out to increasing numbers of needy. You might take a look-see at DU; could have come from there.

Demi, Waccamaw, @ 25,26

This is one of the things people can do together to help themselves become more independent of the corporate control of the economic system, taking advantage of what comes through the cracks of economic artifice. This will also strengthen demand among the local suppliers of goods, rebuilding the demand/supply markets that large corporations overlook and have supplanted. This is “Small is Beautiful” economics.

Covering the Blago thing on cspan. But it seems like he’ll fight it and the kinds of things that they’re mentioning, like impeachment, don’t seem likely to work all the quickly. So it looks like he could still be the one who will appoint Obama’s replacement.

Obama’s senate seat is there, Obama’s advisor is there, so Obama will continue to be there by association. Obama made his way from the streets of Chicago to the streets of DC by being friends with everyone. Doesn’t mean he’s dirty. If there was dirt on Obama, surely the Republicans would have unearthed it somewhere between his winning the Democratic nomination and election day.
