It’s pretty unusual for all 50 Dem Senators to agree on anything, so this is significant, not least because it makes clear that the Senate will refuse to seat anyone Blagojevich appoints anyway. Blagojevich didn’t have a lot of leverage left, even though he’s been acting like he did, this removes one of his last props. I think he would be well advised to cut a deal with Fitzgerald soon, if only to try and keep his wife out of jail so she can look after their children.

Holy cow! The posse is in town.
This may be the first time all the Dem Senators have agreed on anything of importance for a long while.
Something must be scaring them.
St. Patrick has stirred up all the rats on their way to the abyss.

Impeach Blago! And let the press for the new Gov to appoint Jan Shakowsky begin!
If this were a GOP governor, I wonder if you would see anywhere near the level of unanimity of the Democratic senators. Or would it be just the sound of crickets chirping?
Well, it is actually 48 Democratic Senators, 1 independent, and 1 weasel.
Why are you being so defamatory towards weasels?
History tells us that the GOP would first backpedal and prevaricate, claiming that they wouldn’t make any judgments while the investigation was ongoing. And after a conviction came down, they would argue semantics and claim they didn’t mean what they said beforehand.
