Louisiana Secretary of State early election results show Democrat Paul J. Carmouche and Republican John Fleming in a close race, 48.44%-R to 48.07%-D with 302 of 640 precincts reporting.
The race was delayed because of Hurricane Gustav. This district was +19 McCain so a victory would be especially sweet.
In any case we forced the Republicans to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to defend a "safe" district.
More like this please.

OK, I’m confused. Why is this election now? With this many candidates it can’t be a runoff, can it?
It’s even closer now…
18,610 47.94% Paul J. Carmouche, D -
18,843 48.54% John Fleming, R
with 304 of 640 precincts reporting…
365 reporting out of 640 and the Dem is ahead now.
25,113 50.26% Paul J. Carmouche, D -
23,035 46.10% John Fleming, R
397.640 reporting
26,057 49.80% Paul J. Carmouche, D -
24,320 46.48% John Fleming, R
Can you Digg these election results?
Thanks for the question, I updated the post to explain the election was delayed because of Hurricane Gustav.
403/640 reporting
26,327 49.92% Paul J. Carmouche, D -
24,454 46.37% John Fleming, R
Does a candidate have to receive 50 percent to win, as was the case in the GA US Senate race?
please pardon the OT, eg.
Anybody know how to get a post that was saved as a draft in blogger to publish?

Something good comes from a herpicane.
I love America’s new 365-day election calendar. Surely MSNBC invested heavily in this new schedule.
I expect if the Democrat loses, we’ll hear stories tomorrow morning about the failed Obama presidency. I bet Krauthammer’s index finger is poised over the SUBMIT key.
In related news, in LA-02 Jefferson (D) is behind.
Isn’t that Bill Jefferson, the guy with the cash in his freezer?
It’s always good to get rid of a bad Democrat. It was disgraceful when the Dem leadership stood up for him. Good riddance Jeffy.
Leave it to Louisiana to have such pretty colors on their CD map….
thanks, Suz. Then what?
Krauthammer’s index finger is mostly likely poised to go up his nose.
535 of 640 reporting
36,790 49.53% Paul J. Carmouche, D -
34,495 46.44% John Fleming, R
and if the Democrat wins, they will tell us this only proves once again that America is a Center Right nation.
New post upstairs
It is the jelly side down syndrome.
Ah so, desuku. Domo arigato, nai.
Uh huh, but I got MY finger over the submit key that says we could actually frikken win this seat.
Doiee tashi mash te.
hi, mary. I have not heard that expression before. would you explain it, please? :)
579 of 640 reporting
39,914 49.08% Paul J. Carmouche, D -
38,061 46.80% John Fleming, R
this is looking more and more like a Democratic victory.
Yep. Rachel Maddow said that when a republican drops his toast jelly side down he blames a democrat.
All your congressional seats are belong to us.
Why are you crossing your fingers on behalf of Carmouche? He’s vehemently anti-choice and a thorough reactionary through and through. He’ll be one of the worst Democrats in Congress.
see my comment at 18
To keep Republicans from saying that they still have power, anywhere. This election needed to be a complete repudiation of their dreadful policies.
in answer to my question, a commenter at the Times-Picayune site says a majority is not needed to win in LA.
I wish Carmouche would repudiate their dreadful policies. I’m pretty certain he’ll be another Don Cazayoux, who won a special election as a Democrat, voted as a Republican (single most voters with the GOP of any Democratic member of the House– and that is saying a lot– and was kicked out of office by Democrats 6 months later. Glad to see him go. From what I can see, Fleming won this one anyway:
Fleming 44,497 (48.07%)
Carmouche 44,141 (47.69%)
