Willy Deville "Hey Joe"
Helge Schneider and The Firefuckers "Hey Joe"
I know everybody and their second cousin covers Hey Joe at some point in their life. That said, when I first listened to Willy Deville’s rendition I laughed almost to the point of tears, my inner rock and roller purist self felt appalled for half a minute, then quickly moved into the groove. Then I just had to listen to it a couple more times.
If you want to know what Hey Joe meets Weird Al Yankovic at the spaghetti western sounds like, and yes, I think you really do, listen to Helge Schneider and the Firefuckers. Consider yourself warned.
What’s on your mind tonight?

Didn’t Willie DeVille used to record with a group called Mink DeVille?
wonder what happened to the Mink…
But there is some new collaboration of James Taylor and Yo-Yo Ma. JT wanted to do “Here comes the sun” together, but I don’t know from Charlie Rose is it is available yet.
First I heard about this

I probably would have been one of those to boo dylan for going electric.
One sucky part of getting a new computer… Finding and Bookmarking all the faves…! ;-)
Hey pups, hey Eli,
just popping in to say the funniest “hey joe” moment I had was when I was working at a wedding (I was with the photographer ;o) and we knew everyone in the band.
Well, the Father of the Bride had royally ticked off everyone before the ceremony just by being a jerk and ripping everyone’s face off verbally abusing anyone and everyone. So later when he was so tanked and so lovey dovey, the band started in on their Hey Joe cover. I think I was the only one who noticed. I looked at our buddies like “you shouldn’t!” and they just grinned and nodded “but we are!” hahahaha
Well, when youre sitting there
In your silk upholstered chair
Talking to some rich folks that you know
Well I hope you wont see me
In my ragged company
You know I could never be alone
Take me down little susie, take me down
I know you think youre the queen of the underground
And you can send me dead flowers every morning
Send me dead flowers by the mail
Send me dead flowers to my wedding
And I wont forget to put roses on your grave
Well, when youre sitting back
In your rose pink cadillac
Making bets on kentucky derby day
Ill be in my basement room
With a needle and a spoon
And another girl to take my pain away
Take me down little susie, take me down
I know you think youre the queen of the underground
And you can send me dead flowers every morning
Send me dead flowers by the mail
Send me dead flowers to my wedding
And I wont forget to put roses on your grave
Take me down little susie, take me down
I know you think youre the queen of the underground
And you can send me dead flowers every morning
Send me dead flowers by the us mail
Say it with dead flowers at my wedding
And I wont forget to put roses on your grave
No I wont forget to put roses on your grave
My top five…
1. FDL
2. TP
3. DU
4. Spook’s and Muffin’s RP
5. Raw Story…
rotfl! Naughty naughty!
Ya need to learn to save them elsewhere it really is a small file fits on a floppy..
I might have, but it wasn’t just electric, it was The Band.
Heh, Like I should listen to ya…! *g*
Honestly, tho… With Google…?
Yeah, it was an awesome personal memorable moment of rock and roll…
Oh, and the couple is now divorced…she left him for another woman. I kid you not. Blame it on the band.
A little thumb-sized zip drive?
guess i’m a behind in my music history.
With Google…?
Ya mean the Google browser?…. haven’t tried that one yet… reviews didn’t look very good so…
Whatcha gonna do about it
Hi all.*]
I was just listening to that!
Hey hey.. Mac users can watch unlimited movies and television on demand through Netflix now.
Heh, it’s all already hoovered up by the NSA…! Who cares now…? ;-)
Works for me or a memory stick… they are sure getting cheap these days!
The first Dylan Electric show
Dylan and The Band – Royal Albert Hall
In front of the Queen, no less.
Got’s too… If not they’d be tanking too…! ;-)
yeah but they won’t share it with you when you need it!
Ya mean when he became a traitor to the movement? Sure was an uproar when Dylan went electric..
Too bad Condi wasn’t afforded Albert Hall during her fantasy debut…! ;-)
How very true! Ya want a big screen TV? Just wait a little longer and they will be at the price that they should be..
I’ll have to check it later. This machine works pretty except for adobe stuff.
Yes
Youtube use adobe? I had no idea. What kind of fancy set up are running these days?
Heh, I had to install adobe 8.0 at first to initialize… I then installed the latest 10.0 version available… I couldn’t view any Youtubes until I did…! ;-)
well, adobe bought flash and flash is a little much for this 1500Mhz machine.
Well pups gotta hit the hay early..
Nite and sleep well when ya get there.
Do you have a crank attached to the side…? ;-)
I guess more accurately adobe bought macromedia and flash was part of that purchase. Youtube uses a flash player.
Aloha, nahant!
lol! I should. Maybe bike pedals under the desk and as an added bonus it keeps ya warm during the winter months.
…and cool ya off in the Summer…! ;-)
Hey margot from the land of enchantment…getting a new gov soon. How life treating you. I crashed my puter twice so am late with this response. Ilke to listen to utube and blob but puter doesb’nt like multi tasking, FF is not always operating or something.
Life is good, thanks, BB, and you?
Richardson’s a character, that’s for sure. NM is going to miss him, I think (or so I read, I’m in Ohio now).
Here’s a blog I like from NM.
Turning into a pumpkin here
Good night firedogs
Nite, ES!
nite ES
OHIO…where did I get NM? Guns&Roses has best guitar work for Dead Flowers..Newtoner has a big mind for concerts as do most of the Late Niters. I am also pretty well as long as life does not demand more than my ability. Being fried is not an operable mode. Election work for you in Ohio.
Wtf is this…
Apparently, until after all the pardons are signed, even if the ink is still drying…
At the Newport Folk Fest, in ‘65, Dylan went in search of Al Kooper (played the organ on Like A Rolling Stone earlier that year in the studio), Mike Bloomfield, Sammy Lay (stix) and Jerome Arnold from Butterfield’s band.
He hit Sunday night, for his FIRST ever electric performance, which shook the folk world upside down.
This is pretty legendary stuff, thought I’d help keep the story straight. These ARE my heroes . . *G*
And I LIKE the two Hey Joe clips ya put up. Good flashbacks!!!
A bit of wiki would reveal there was some guy in ‘58 who wrote the song, and sold it to Dino Valenti (Quicksilver Messenger Service) and yes, The Leaves (GREAT clip BTW) cut it before anyone else did, before Hendrix. I’ve never been able to trace the link between Dino Valenti and The Leaves.
Anyone older n me might know?
The SF and Peninsula music scene in ‘63-66 was in such changing upheaval and creative turmoil as the synthesis for the Summer Of Love was blending among folk, blues, rock, pop and other genres and artists. I was clubbing from The Peninsula at age 15 beginning in ‘68.
I missed Longshoreman’s Hall, where The Leaves played a lot.
On the Peninsula there was in Belmont, The Chalet, which I never got in to, but stood outside one night . . .
By ‘68 the clubs and venue’s were legendary . . . from San Jose, Palo Alto, Redwood City up to The City.
Heady pheakin times with some of the greatest music ever performed. It was a mixing and melting pot of people, genres, and output. Just like the rest of the nation, only more . . . Bay Area was leading the way. *G*
So, yer a mid 60’s pop music old phart, too?
And here I thought I was the only one on this Group W Bench.
*G*
Then there were these guys, a bit more, um, pop?
The Banks Of The River Charles *G*
Folks I camp with, and in other camps love to do Stone’s songs when we are all at fests . . . . done in a ‘newgrassify’ style that one . . . gits, dobro, mando, banjo, fiddle, doghouse . . . often a harp to join in . . . great classic tune it is, as are MANY Stones tunes, for the acoustic fest camp jam scene! *G*
Wild Horses, Sittin On A Fence, No Expectations, Salt Of The Earth, You Got The Silver. A fav closer is Far Away Eyes . . . complete with the narration.
Sigh. I miss fest season. Is it late May yet?
Larue, you old fart! I didn’t see ya at the Beach house! ;-)
America’s Class War:
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/bu…..3666.story
How much are you willing to pay to get out of congestion?
How much are you willing to pay to travel the very roads you already paid for?
If traffic becomes gridlocked in the regular “free” lanes, tolls could spike as high as $6.20.
Because they’ve effectively reduced the capability of the slower lanes, gridlock at rush hour is virtually assured, thereby enabling the highest fee, which is sure to go even higher.
They weren’t tawkin ’bout early to late 60’s music!! *G*
I DID leave you TWO EPU’s to yer “I’m Back” pronouncements . . .
Check them out!! *G*
And yes, glad yer back!! Trust all is well with family, and the Missus’ health.
You DO know it’s cold, dark, foggy, wet, and unhospitable, here, don’t ya?
Not like out THERE, where they just held The North Shore Events, I think . . .
(jealous) *G*
Out here, San Francisco is going to charge people to use the bridges coming in and going out for a new fee.
It’s a USER fee, for going thru The City.
The rest of the Bay SOUTH of SF, is not accessable from the EAST, for the most part, without GOING thru SF.
This will cause greater costs for folks from Sacto and from all points EAST of SF, who need to go THRU SF, to work on the Peninsula. No mention about if this fee will be charged on the rail system, as well.
I’m a left coaster, I’m not FAMILIAR with the road tolls back east, but they’ve always sounded BAD to me. Now the concept is here on the Left Coast.
Only a matter of time before ANY city that’s on a thruway to somewhere else, charges a user fee, too.
USA, a country of lil fiefdoms of taxable revenue . . . and all the citizens pay more. Gimme a centralized government anyday . . . screw the small minds.
Aah, but the Eddie Akau Classic didn’t happen…
Attaturk is upstairs!
Going out with a Bang Fetish
*gasp* You, you… Socialist…! ;-)
