  • Look out Obama, the GOP is back!!!
  • Except for Mel Martinez retiring.
  • And Al Franken’s lawyers claiming victory.
  • Obama meets with governors on WPA public works projects.
  • Richardson in at Commerce.
  • GM and Chrysler ask for help.
  • Rover defends W. in NYC debate.
  • Tucker Calson, still a huge asshole.
  • The Bushes have absolutely no sense of humor.

Imus hectoring Matalin this morning about Obama’s choices.

Matalin sayin’: he calls it pragmatic, I call it “center right”

There you go again….another Rethug, making up her own framing.

Good morning.

SC gov on WJ got it up the you know what from the first & last callers. (Couldn’t watch the middle.) He said let the market work, gov is bad, Fannie Freddie … Callers said all the money from the workers went to the top 10% and what should we do, wait for another R depression?

So sorry for you folks in SC.

like I said, can’t remember where I read that, apparently that’s not the case.

Here’s some tidbits from the Sarasota paper

Martinez has some of the lowest approval ratings of any member of the U.S. Senate and of any statewide elected official in Florida, making his re-election prospects in 2010 anything but certain.
…
A Quinnipiac University poll taken last month showed only 36 percent said Martinez should be re-elected.
…
Ingram, the GOP consultant, said if Martinez ran again he could have been easily painted as the typical Washington insider because of how infrequently he toured the state and his close association with the Bush family.

Ingram said the only surprise was how early the announcement came. He said most expected Martinez to wait until early 2009.

Betcha Jeb Bush runs
Will no one rid us of this family. Haven’t the Bushes sucked enough of our blood to last them for eternity?

If Barack Obama is going ‘center right’ then the right wingers in America have to love him now. See? We have to push this by pointing it out to them that if Barack stays in Iraq or if there is an attack on our nation, they must smack on their US flag pins and praise Jesus for their president!

Mary Matalin included. She needs to bow to her ‘center right’ president!

What I’m hearing is that he sees the writing on the wall and wants to give the FL Rethugs time to work up a campaign. Jeb is making a fortune running his venture capital firm and by the look of his puffy jowls doing quite well at it. The FL Rethugs aren’t happy with Martinez. Sink has said she won’t run and all the other Dem names I’ve heard are just plain lame. Lot of infighting at local and state Dem party level. The worker bees are furious at the performance of party leadership. Very little coattail effect. Weak campaigns, all the normal stuff.

Great solution to bailout problems.

Obama will own it soon enough if he doesn’t get the economy out of it.

A National need to start another “Hugh’s” list:

Hedge funds – locked in leveraged insolvency

Investment banks – insolvent

Banks – liquidity locked

Industrial concerns – liquidity lock dries up operating capital

Mortgage/Real estate – in gridlock, depressing spiral

Consumer spending – decreasing rapidly, insecurity driven, income at 1980 levels, Home ATM ceased functioning.

Government spending – in hiatus to provide Iraq/Afghan operations, attempted “bailout” of investment banks and hedge funds.

Personal credit – used up

Governmental credit – at great risk from tsunami of dollar printing.

Things not yet considered

Karl Rove said on Tuesday evening that had the President known Iraq did not possess weapons of mass destruction, the United States would not have gone to war.

That’s one of them interestin’ questions. Would we the Bushie Crime Family have gone to war, if Saddam did not have WMD’s. Kommander Screwup Guy was planning this quagmire from day one, as Paul O,Neill Sec. of Treasury has claimed. The 30 or 40 intelligence agencies of the US Government, did correctly determine Saddam had no WMD’s. But Liar Guy is trying a “do over” with the truth, again.

Asked if he would have ordered the U.S.-led invasion if intelligence reports had accurately indicated that Saddam did not have the weapons, Bush replied: “You know, that’s an interesting question. That is a do-over that I can’t do. It’s hard for me to speculate.”

Martinez says he’s leaving on his own terms. And now he will have two years to decide what to do next — assuming the Republican Party doesn’t ask him to step down early, so that Charlie Crist can name a replacement.

Martinez says he has no plans to play that game. And I believe he’s earnest.

But I also believe he will face pressure to change his mind — from party leaders, maybe even Bush, who would rather handpick a candidate than let voters in on the action.

If so, perhaps Martinez will finally decide it’s OK to say no.

thanks bfl, I knew I saw something like this yesterday.

Actually Bush did come down here once but:
Bush urged voters to elect Crist as well as a slate of other GOP candidates, including Rep. Katherine Harris, who is mounting a lukewarm challenge to Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson. Before the September primary, Republican leaders failed to support Harris, who sat in the audience, not on stage with Bush.

Thank you for the link to Windpony flutes, SD.

We never know when a comment touches someone out there in ways unimagined. Long ago and far away, back in 1945, as a child I had a long chrome pipe with holes which I tried unsuccessfully to make into a flute. So, I used my voice for sound. I had the job (at age 11) of staying all day alone in the fields watching our milk cow and a young heifer while they grazed. My mother had died the summer before and the “flute” somehow eased my sorrow.

Think I’ll order one of those as a Christmas gift for myself. (comes with instructions, huh?)

why doesn’t congress just use the 25B retool moneys and give them another 25B (refund the retool account) after Obama takes office.

Food for thought. Angry B

Thank you for the blessing, Sophie. The story as I lived it wasn’t very attractive. I can see many benefits in it now; made me reflective about everything. May your blessings be returned to you.
