Sarah Palin was in Augusta this morning campaigning for Big Daddy, and unveiled some really groundbreaking, out-of-the-box ideas about how to resurrect the Republican party.
“It takes rebuilding, and I say, let that begin here in Georgia tomorrow,” Palin said.
She said Chambliss is needed to provide a check on the Democratic majority. She stressed Chambliss’s support for gun rights, opposition to abortion and opposition to tax hikes.
Yeah, if only the Republicans would start running on guns, tax cuts and criminalizing abortion, they wouldn't be in this mess.
But at any rate, is Saxby Chambliss really a guy you want to rebuild your party around?
"We need Saxby because we need checks and balances in Washington, and we will not have that if Saxby is not re-elected," said Palin. "With one party in control of the House and the Senate and the White House we need a conservative who will speak for themselves."
Wuh...?
And I love this:
The Palin rally in Augusta drew a crowd of 3,000 to 4,000 people, many holding aloft campaign signs and shouting their adoration of the GOP vice presidential candidate.
“Sarah! Sarah! Sarah!,” they chanted. One woman stood behind Palin with a huge red sign that read: “Save My Gun.”
If these people keep parodying themselves like this, what am I supposed to do for snark?

Palin’s supporters obviously don’t pay any attention to what she says- since she is incomprehensible- they just like her…cause she walks with the Lord and gives em a boner.
I always use broken parts to repair engines.
DOW decides to “go rogue” again- down 400 points—-there goes our retirement!!
I’m not real comfortable with folks who walk around with dead folks.
Thanks BT
I hope the Obama folks’ efforts to GOTV pay off. If not, GA is going to send this fenderhead back to the Senate, where he will revel in his role as obstructionist.
Does it strike anyone else as odd, in the slightest lil’ bit?
All these elderly, flailing Repubble politician gentlemen grabbing for one last life-line to office, and giving Sarah the nod.
Egad. Is she a secret weapon, a gaff-pronouned specialist, or someone who discovered longer days the farther south she cast her allure?
I’m gonna call it somethin fishy, and that ain’t salmon.
Thanks, Dragon, for providing an excuse to come upstairs. I swear we’re collectively going bonkers awaiting Jan. 20. Can’t come soon enough.
Thanks BT. Right on as usual.
Good to have as much sunlight as possible reach some of these dark corners in Congress.
happiness is a warm glum.
I’m at work and can’t watch the video. Is anything being slaughtered in the background?
Interesting hypothesis, putting Palin squarely in the McCarthy gene branch of the R party.

From teh LA TIMES on Sunday: The GOP’s McCarthy gene
Bling bling shoot shoot.
My only anticipation of 20 Jan is to see what the Obama administration does out of the gate. Until then I’m just watching Shrub to see what damage he tries between now and then.
NeoMarxist. JHFC.
Heh. You owe me a drink.
Bernanke is distracting from the financial crisis by boring audience to death in his in-progress speech to chamber of commerce in Austin.
the wing nuts are going to use this election as a launching pad and proving ground for palin
they will say he could not have won without her but they will not blame her if he loses
Palin witch hunting for political gain? Shocking!
Shocking AND surprising. Who could have anticipated?
OT, but interesting.
‘A key program in the Federal Communications Commission’s Universal Service Fund overpaid telecommunications carriers by almost a billion dollars from July 2006 through June 2007. This disclosure, which is sure to provoke more cries for a massive overhaul of the USF, comes from a preliminary FCC audit of the USF’s High Cost fund released just before Thanksgiving. The review says that 23.3% of the payments the USF made to telcos were “erroneous”—that’s up from an earlier estimate of 16.6 percent. The latest total comes to $970.3 million in bad payouts.’

The “new” Rethug party will get along just fine with the Communist Party USA. Two aging failed ideologies pretending to be relevant in the age of instant everything.
mother’s soup ear, you’re jumped the gun…?
Ha. I am learning something from Bernanke’s speech. He is attributing absence of mechanism for nondepository financial institutions as the reason for the FRB’s extraordinary measures. He thinks the TARP is the solution, similar to FDIC. What he forgets to mention is that FDIC came with all kinds of regulatory reform and oversight whereas nada with TARP.
Problem solved. Move along now.
Back to the quarry with the rest of the slaves.
All in all, just another blech in da Wall.
the long article about Bernanke in last week’s New Yorker, in a nutshell:
nice guy, very affable, extremely smart, wrong about just about everything.
Now, now, I was putting that together at the sametime you were doing your’s. It really is a tie I think. And I think that McCarthy would be proud of his creation!
hush money for the nsa wire taps!
Sarah, how can we miss you if you won’t go away?
If you want the blow-by-blow, read Nixonland. I’m just a hundred pages into it, and it’s over 700 pages, but it’s a keeper. Fabulously written. I’ve read the section on McCarthy & then Nixon. And into the section on Reagan, how he was ignored & gained power because everyone except the voter underestimated the profoundly disturbing influence the 1960s unrest had on the “real” America.
Are you listening to his speech?
Lol, I was thinking something like that too.
Citizen AZ Matt:
The “McCarthy gene” is simply fascism…and it’s as American as Quantill’s Raiders, the KKK and the America First cabal. There is now nuthin standin’ in the way of our callin’ the ideology of the Republican Party what it is and that’s FASCISM! We must not give the northern “moderate” Republicans, especially in the Senate, any room to make themselves comfortable in the rump party…we gotta keep populist heat on folks like Snow, Collins and Grassley so’s Obama ken herd ‘em into his “bi-partisan” coalition.
I have been tellin’ everyone includin’ Dave Niewert for years that we gotta start callin’ American conservatism what it is and isolate the bastards and force the oligrachs back into their gated estates.
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITON, NOW THAT WE KNOW WHAT THEY ARE, WE GOTTA GOT AND GET ‘EM!!
have been trying to find any feedback from Perlstein on the LAT article - got any recent links for him ? all I’ve got is his Nixonland facebook page
nope. am I missing anything revelatory?
How many times did she utter “Georgia”?
Perlstein did not write the LAT article, nor was there any ref to him in the article by Neal Gabler. So I don’t know if they came up the ideas independently. More likely (at a guess), Gabler got it from Perlstein & is trying to popularize it by making it short.
On second reading, I misinterpreted your comment. You were asking whether Perlstein reacted to Gabler? Don’t know. Will keep eyes open.
saving the rethug party begins with a corrupt old-guard coot like Saxby? Urghh Lady Sarah, if you want to be regarded as a maverick, you have to do better. So the old is no new? Standing still (or running backwards) is now the same as change? Frankly, getting into bed with the Paultards would be better than this.
See my 17 and 24.
I’m not good at picking out the important nuggets from fedspeak. I get bored and tune out. Back in the day I wasn’t much good either, but Greenspan was around so long that one picked up tips and got better at it. Now I’m even out of practice with that.
I guess one important thing is that I didn’t here him say anything about regulation. If that’s accurate, it’s really telling. I’ll see if I can find the text and double check.
must be the payoff for domestic spying…
I was absolutely accurate. The word “regulation” does not appear in Bernanke’s speech a single time. WOW.
Here’s the text of Bernanke’s speech.

Sez current situation is not like depression which was far worse, largely because policy was way bad back then. Implying of course that policy is way good right now. They’re doing everything possible.
He also doesn’t speak about liquity trap in his speech.
“We need Saxby because we need checks and balances in Washington”
Why start now?
Because Ds are in power.
Another episode of simple As to simple Qs.
Totally agreed. While awaiting the changeover, I can’t see for the life of me what good it would do for me to fret over what Obama’s gonna do then. I already cast my vote. The next step is his, happily. I especially lose patience with criticism of him for what people think he might possibly do. How about giving the guy a chance, plus doing what Jane and Christy are doing, helping give a bit higher profile to some good names that could use the publicity. Beyond that, letting him do his job(!) seems a pretty good idea.
Stirling Newberry upstairs on our year-long recession.
Shorter Sarah Palin: “You need to vote for Saxby Chambliss to start the process of rebuilding the party that I destroyed last month! Because he’s like me! And I destroyed us! But Saxby can rebuild us! This all makes sense, really! Can you see I’m winking? Also!”
Heh. Thanks for watching so I don’t have to.
In case I haven’t told you, that makes perfect sense to me. But from my blog readings, I think we have to get approval from someone named William of Occam. I think using his razor is something like using the word “proactive” three times per day where I used to work. If you didn’t, you were a “legacy” person.
articulate and informed commentary about economics is way above my pay grade, sorry! :~)
Great Job Sarah Palin. Keep up the good work and am looking forward to Voteing for you in 2012…………Go Sarah Go………..
God get Palin off the stage.
I just saw the open and she is terrible. I also hear she gave the exact same speech 3 times.
But at least the big question is the swiftboat of a military man for a non-military and now Palin the military mom is stumping for him (and talking about her son who is serving).
The crowd seems a bit quite in seeing just how bad she is at giving this speech. Gawd its a crawl to the applause line.
Glad they got away from that terrible speech (but its just to a fake story anyway).
OT:
(TV is now lying and saying “video game recession proof” - Electronic Arts… $17 share (down from an average of $50 for the last 4.5 years.)
It provides endless proof the market isn’t so secure and that Social Security must remain government-run.
I’d prefer the retirement system NOT be government-run, but I haven’t heard of any alternatives which stock market gyrations haven’t trashed.
I’d also prefer government not keep our financial records at the IRS, but we need some kind of tax collection system which doesn’t require that.
I’d also prefer government not spend so much on military that seems wasteful. Doesn’t seem that’s going away any time soon either.
Maybe I should focus on doing away with some trivial part of government spending that nobody will notice, like Congressional health care!
We could have had a normal nebbish quiet evening around here, but then I read your Occam thingie to him, and … it made our day. Thanks. ;->
say… just curious. the jackets are the new old ones. did Chambliss at least buy her new shoes and pay for a private jet?
turkey?? oh no. not necessary, really.
