Actually, most reporting from news organisations is just mere stenography, nothing else. There’s no soul, no depth, and certainly not an intelligent point of view coming from the reporter themselves. It’s all so anonymous without a shred of creativity.

Besides, didn’t most of these journalists support outsourcing and told workers who lost their jobs to “suck it up”?

Otherwise, it’s fifty pages of Walmart ads, sports scores, and weather.

The Pasadena (CA) Star-News, a very conservative rag that surprisingly endorsed Obama, outsourced the Pasadena City council meeting reporting to India.

I don’t know if they use notes or a live feed. The blow-by-blow may be true but there’s no accounting for the personalities involved or for the ramifications for the city of any actions taken or prior history or anything. Anyone can write a he said/she said; we need more than that.

I see it as a way to cut costs and circulation in one clean move.

They’ve run into that problem already with the big conglomerates buying up rural radio stations and putting them on autopilot. When local emergencies happen, you can’t get on the radio to warn people because some guy a thousand miles away is the program director and he can’t be reached.

I don’t think so, either. I was referring to what is known as (Thank you, Atrios) Friedman Units. Hence the title, “Another FU For Tom Friedman.” If you don’t know about Atrios’ Friedman Units, refer to wikipedia. There’s an entry for it.

No, no, no. What you don’t understand is that we aren’t creating a foreign right wing elite–we’re just getting our right wing elitism cheaper by paying the lower rate abroad. And just consider: by paying a Chinese right-wing nutjob to deliver O’Reilly-esque tirades, we not only get a cheaper demagogue but also wingnutism that 99%+ of Americans just plain can’t understand.
