But Wallace apparently did his homework and pounced (starts around 5:29).
BIG DADDY: That clip’s interesting that was uh, about, uh, 4 seconds out of a 40 minute speech I gave that morning, which incidentally, when I made that statement, I was quoting Alan Greenspan…
WALLACE: Senator, may I just bring you up on that, because that quote, when you said, "I don’t know if we’re in a recession. I don’t know what that means" you said that in July of this year and in fact in April of this year, several months before, Alan Greenspan had said we’re headed into a recession.
BIG DADDY: Yeah, well, ya know, there was a real question about what is the definition of a (stutters) recession, Chris, if you remember, it was supposed to be two consecutive months of negative GDP…
Getting caught lying on national teevee is pretty below average. Getting caught lying while confirming your ignorance — a masterpiece of epic fail.

Great catch BT
“recession” has a technical definition- two consecutive quarters of down GDP…I believe that Chabliss is technically correct that we don’t know conclusively yet that we have experienced two consecutive down quarters…isn’t that right?
Thanks to you, egr.
Digg is open
Well if he thinks it means two consecutive months, we sure are in a recession. Is this the best folks can send to Congress?
Support Jim Martin!
Chambliss does indeed get caught not knowing anything about the most important thing currently happening in the country and which is putting it in a funk. I would add that there is no single definition for a recession. Most take the announcement by the NBFR to be the official pronouncement, but some parts of the country have been in recession for years and it was clear that even last year that was where we were headed. The initial $160 billion stimulus confused matters slightly but not by much. That stimulus was more about the White House attempting to avoid the recession call at the end of their watch. With the meltdown in September, that became a laughable effort.
We will be seeing “revisions and adjustments” in every number that BushCo has given us for years because it has been all about pr rather than reality.
Candidates that are dumber than dirt doesn’t stop the rethugs from voting for them. See who is campaigning for Chambliss today and tomorrow.
he looks like a senator and sounds like senator dixie. but he is about as smart as my parrot.
two black people voted for him. or maybe one.
they both work for him.
Pretending to not know what a recession is or if we’re in one is key to the neocons in trying to dupe the masses to think it’s the Democrat’s fault.
LOL You mean he’s fed what to say and just regurgitates it?
I haven’t seen any discussion here (I may just have missed it) but the NYT has a follow up of the military analysts for hire.

centering on General McCaffrey and NBC. This is months late. The first stories came out in April 2008 and massively unreported by the media.
BTW ABC’s This Week has Torie Clarke on as one of their pundits. Clarke is the one at the Pentagon who orchestrated the “retired generals shilling for the Defense Department in the media” program. Just so typical.
The scary thing is that there will be no objective data from which to derive the revisions because these people have erased whatever wasn’t to their liking.
What I dread are the years of revisionist history we are going to have to fight. I’m gonna have to get hold of all the social studies books my grandkids are given in school to keep an eye on how this abomination is portrayed to kids. No one should believe that the truth about how terrible this administration or its chief executive were will ever be taught if the education industry has anything to say about it.
In a lot of ways the numbers have always been there. The problem is that they were twisted and spun, what they meant went unreported. Take for example the job numbers under Bush. They sucked all through the Bush years, even before they nosedived with the meltdown. But bad job growth was often portrayed as good job growth. If 100,000 jobs are created in a month, few people know that is not a good number but the media and pundits were free to cast it as one because most Americans would not know the difference. I think people are going to go back and not revise the numbers so much as what they mean. They are going to go back and say, Oh wait, look the Bush economy was always awful.
On ABC’s This Week they spent a few minutes trying to show how much they don’t know about the economy. Stephano does one of these we will never know if the bailout didn’t keep something worse from happening. It misses the point that precious time and money were lost because much more effective action could have been taken and was not.
What are Democrats doing to get Martin elected? Chambliss is bringing in big name Republicons. Are the Democrats following suit?
True that, James@14 and Hugh@15.
Perception is truth…until it’s not.
Bill Clinton. Al Gore. Obama team. Obama robocalls. Obama interviews. The work’s bein’ done, it’s just what the M$M chooses to tell you to present as what’s being done. Sarah Palin, anyone?
ooops, preview is my friend.
“…it’s just what the M$M chooses to present as what’s being done…”
Universal rule of media, apply in all circumstances.
Spencer’s got a post up on the McCaffrey scandal.
Thanks
that’s correct. he said 2 months tho. i think the thugs are cookin the numbers in their favor anyway.
its quite amazing that republicans/conservatives go on Fox News to get puffed and even with softball questions and leading answers they still screw it up – that’s how craven and stupid they are.
Probably a slip of the tongue- there are better reasons to dislike this guy in my opinion.
exactly.
my take is that it points out the lack of education in the south. it is sub par with a lot of church (bible) influence.
And this is Chris Wallace doing it. Amazing.
Wonder if FOX has seen some of the internals and it looks like Chambliss is doing worse than thought — and so FOX wants to be on the winning side? It’s not as if Rupert hasn’t done this before; remember how he dropped Major and the Tories in ‘95 and backed Tony Blair?
Majority of States now in recession.

1,843 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Citizen Blue Texan and the Firepup Freedom Fighters:
Why is everyone obsessed about gettin’ 60 “Democratic” votes in the Senate…fer Christ’s sake, Obama’s gunna need at least 2-3 aposate fascist votes on any particular issue no matter how many nominal “Democrats” we have counted before any particular vote. I think this fixation on 60 votes is an unhealthy strategy in any particular election campaign especially in “red” areas…go after the seats and votes based on the issues that won the fuckin’ only truly national election we got and let the chips fall on Obama’s shoulders and political skills ta get the votes needed from issue ta issue until 2010 when we ken get another 3-4 Senate seats and knock the “Blue Dogs” back into the kennel.
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION BUT KEEP YER EYES ON THE TARGET FER cRIST’S SAKE!!
That map is hilarious – it says that New York is ‘at risk’ — I can tell you that from Gov. Patterson’s perspective, we’re in the dumper, big time.
Glenn Smith is Upstairs!!
I think the 60 vote thing is largely a distraction and another excuse in the making to explain why Democrats can’t act effectively.
Citizen Phoenix Woman:
Rupert and his house of smoke and mirror propaganda is fallin apart…the Democrats finally “got it” by the general election this fall and stopped offerin’ ANY Democrats to be sacrificed on the fascist alter of Fox News…Murdock has already knocked off tens of thousands of jobs from his “empire” and he’s lookin’ at bein frozen out from access and influence for the next four years. Murdock’s “Goebbels Memorial Propaganda Machine” will be bankrupt before the next national election.
not enough data there to form an opinion.
from Michael J. Smith in The ever-receding future:
Conservative ‘epic fail’ . . . on Faux News, no less . . . how’d that happen?
I still say Chambliss will be re-elected. The GOP’s stronghold is in the south.
Georgians will forget the economic collapse and lack of health care, and unite behind Chambliss’s arrogance, ignorance, hatred of gays, hatred of blacks, and policies that favor the rich.
