pups!
Digg is open Pups!
thanks for opening the digg nahant
Yes, Digg is open, nahant–and it’s mine. you double-dugg me!
My pleasure Suz. How are you doing tonight?
Hey, I’m awake! Had the best Thanksgiving, ever. Sent Ms. CE back to Manhattan today — she was missing Cleveland if you can believe that. It is true that all the high school friends the kids gathered with are, highly educated and doing great things, are all over the world, and finally, HOME to see their parents and old HS friends. Pretty amazing. And lots of hugs and kisses. Some in art, law, business, Rosetta Stone, social work. The generation named 9/111 will be amazing.
Digg is fixed.
You were Lurking again Neuro just waiting to get the DIGG??
looks like i got doubled nahant
otherwise, i’m tired and tired and did i mention tired?
Anatomy of a Meltdown
Here is an interesting account of the finanacial meltdown from the New Yorker
If I had been lurking, I would have got the First Comment, as well. Actually, I was elsewhere and just glanced up at the clock on the wall, and saw it was LLN time. When I got here, bigbrother already had his fitz.
But but my Digg is the first one if you open them together you will see that my Digg is on minute earlier!! Here is Neuro’s Digg check it out you will see Lurk…
whichever digg is at the top of the page is the digg nahant – digg does that selecting – not fdl when there is a double
so what else is going on, pups? I ate my fourth Thanksgiving dinner tonight, and I think it will be my last. Although there are still a couple of pieces of pecan pie left…
Hi Suzanne and all, Newt must be tired from all the blogging….a little of your game tonight. G)
Also I mercifally spared Nuero from that nuerotic experience. No more torture on the Lake.
my last for this year, that is…!
Just how many did your wife make Neuro??
I will be cooking our Turkey tomorrow… it is brineing as we speak…
thank you bigbrother for your appreciation of order and dignity.
We ate our third, and still loved it… I’m feeling a little nostalgic putting away the pumpkins and turkeys.
have about one more plate of turkey and dressing left with a wee bit of green bean cassarole in the tupperware. ate the only slice of pie last nite.
but but but ya get to put out all the christmas stuff.
i love the smell of christmas – like it more than the smell of turkey dinner cooking.
we had four pies, two pumpkin one peach and one pecan. I actually baked them all…took them out of the freezer and put them in the over. I am the only one here who truly appreciates a good piece of pecan pie, so I have had as much as I wanted!
wish I could taste your turkey, I bet it’s a good one!
oven
sigh
i was sent home with a solitary slice of pumpkin pie
Have plenty of turkey left, about 3 more meals. Only one of stuffing & mashed potatoes & gravey, though.
Suz – that’s pretty brilliant – “chicken hawk”? Haw Haw – it is to laugh!
Hate to admit it, but I did put those 25 year old turkeys back in the sideboard drawer (dear kids). And, changed the candles to green and red in the dining room. Sheesh! What a punk!
hey alicia – thanks – i figured after thanksgiving, we would be all filled up with fowl
Tired and fed up? Foghorn can be a handful.
My friend has 2 litle ones that run around the house and trash the place…and 2 bigons that like to play hooky. She says they never give her a break. Now that is Tired with a capital T. Geritol for you or something. Try naps plus couped up with no exercise can be draining…Napoleon was famous for his 15 naps on the battle field….commander Bush has had an 8 year nap.
Foghorn Leghorn is the greatest!
‘marble-headed mongrel’ – you could do worse than to look to FL for bons mot
Should be I took several recipes for the brine and sorta made up mine from there! 1 cup of white and brown sugar, 1 cup of sea salt, nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon stick, garlic powder, sage, and Chef Paul’s poultry spice.. oh and a bit of Apple cider Vinegar.
Hey, just so you know, I received in the mail my University of Delaware Magazine. Joseph Biden is on the cover — love him so much! My Wilmington roots are totally with Joe.
Suzanne you are re-tired. Out to pasture… worn to a frazzle. and yet still late nighting away and commenting more throughout the day today. Have you considered finger exercises…index up in side in. Also yoga eye exercises for the screen time staring Sat Chid Anada has some good ones.
Close eyes and breathe a few minutes slow the racing metabolism and calms the nerves.
what, no jalapeno or habarnero?
Tahred is going around, I’ve got it too. But I love the cartoon, thanks, Suz.;)
Fred Thompson, everybody!
All Fowled Up! Good stuff.
Whatz on my mind?
Trouble! With a capital T!
And that phymes with P!
Which stands for Pool!
Trouble I tell ya.
The kind of trouble that breaks hearts and bends minds!
Angst!! Teen and early 20 something angst!
Troubled angst!!! The WORST kind.
“I got troubles, whoa whoa
I got worries, whoa whoa
I got wounds to bind!”
The We Five. Beverly Bivens Is HOT!
Troubles, we all got troubles, whoa whoa.
Running out of turkey . . . is that a trouble or not? LOL *G*
Love the Foghorn, Suz, always . . . . damn there’s so much political and social commentary behind all of that stuff . . . *G*
Like this:
minstrel boy at group news blog has a great post up about how to brine
thanks for the benanke link. looks like good bedtime reading. /s
Nahant I brought a dish to thanksgiving invite. Original inspired by necessity. Got together a bunch of great ingredients. Miked a rule squach (red shaped like a pumpkin. Put on the bottom of a white pryex laced with honey and sprinkled with brown sugar, thompson seedless raisins, chopped fuji apples and cranberry sauce with pecan halves. All organic a festive dish like eating candy.
not for roast turkey Neuro(:>)) But I was tempted to put one habarnero I grew in the brine… but hought better of it Julie would skin me alive if I made the Turkey real spicy… gotta keep the peace ya know!
Forgot…sprinkled with red pepper flakes to offset the sweetness.
i learned to do that finger exercise when i was in first grade – the teacher had us do it as a warm up to our penmenship lessons. still do it (and silently chant exercise, exercise, now it’s time to exercise just as the teacher taught)
hey larue
i don’t remember where i read it but i remember reading an article about the classic cartoons. part of their success was making the cartoon for the kids but creating dialog that interested the adult at the movies with the kids. bugs has tons of politial snark in his cartoons.
Loved that line from the recipe~! It is so true..
Good lord, just found this!
Beverly must be in her 60’s or more! Listen to her voice!! She’s bringing it start to finish!! Dang!
Whoops, looks like my first one didn’t catch:
Let’s try this.
now yer talkin’
sure did make it sound easy
i’ve never brined a turkey (go ahead, boo and hiss) but i’m thinking about trying it next time
of course, living solo, the next time i make a turkey may be a loooong time away
still sounds good. dang, larue, nice find
potatoes, yams, stuffing, cranberry sauce all gone but still have some turkey. I’m thinking we should freeze what’s left for a while and then cook it into something that in no way resembles Thanksgiving dinner…
my son-in-law is gonna email me his family’s recipe for cranberry ice. they do that instead of regular cranberries and it was forking wonderful.
maybe something with a spicy tomato sauce, if I can find a suitable recipe
You can do the same thing to chicken Suz, I brine chicken often and it sure does make a difference…. the breast/white meat comes out nice and juicy even if you over cook it a bit…
So true, and we do every week.
You can add it to chili ya know!! That will make it different from Thanksgivings day ~
i was unaware fowl could be brined. i’ve heard of making pickled vegetables using a brine but…
the things i learn on these innertubz.
How did I not see that coming…
Blinders??
must be
there are a lotta things one can make outta leftover turkey:
turkey spaghetti
turkey chili
turkey enchiladas
turkey rice soup
turkey sandwiches, etc.
the down side is they are all turkey and after a while, i am sick and tired (there’s that word again) of turkey.
Yup and then they call you a Turkey!!
Here’s my problem. I make turkey broth from the bones and soup out of the broth. But, every time I do a big shopping, I buy & cook a turkey breast. So I have a freezer full of broth & soup. Quelle domage!
better than being called a pig (laughing)
Hiya, pups!
Good to see Christine Edmondson so energized by all those
kidsyoung adults.Been too busy to miss ours a whole lot. This morning I addressed an Anchorage activist union group – mostly ILWU and Teamsters – about how
Rahm’s Obama’s government is starting to shape up, in regard to NAFTA and other union issues iportant to Alaskans. After that, we went through how the incoming presidential administration is shaping up in regard to real military vs expanded privatized military. I wish I had been able to give them better news.Tried to set up an Alaska phone bank for Jim Martin’s last weekend this afternoon, but only got about five people interested in helping. We might have made 140 calls in all. There’s tomorrow.
For the past two hours, I’ve been plowing eight inches of fresh snow, which was kinda fun, except CO poisoning on my body is cumulative over the years, so I can’t feel my fingertips. At least I don’t have a headache.
See!
But of course I won’t tell ya how many pieces of frozen Turkey parts we have(:>))
We eat a lot of turkey both for the price and because we love turkey, all kinds from breast cutlets to wings, legs and thighs.
with lipstick??
still that is 140 more calls they would not have had without your efforts et.
thank you for helping out
back in the day, red to match my long red fingernails.
You you aware off the overnight Repo loans of $2.2 trillion dollars that banks participate in?
Also that banks routinely had off of the books investments in the “Crapile” of bad paper they gambled on. I think the banks business plan was to rely on fees and charges as income and carried the risky paper offof books to keep the game going. My understanding the hedge funds leveraged the bad debt up to 100 to 1.
SEC Christopher Cox stood on the sideline and watched while the Treasury and the Fed looked the other way as long as they could. Then they acted surprised.
oooooooh any surviving pictures??
none i have access to. there are one or two on my old computer – which is in the pod. i could not figure out how to transfer them to the new desktop when i got it. now i see there are cords ya can get to transfer data from the old system to the new system.
Veggie soup with turkey is wonderful. Throw in some dumplings.
or an external DVD burner/hard drive! or or yep there are many ways to transfer your files…
the old desktop did not have dvd – just a cd reader/writer.
gotta lot of great tunes on it and am looking forward to finally being able to hear them again.
When the pod comes give me a call and I will give you some easy ways to get all your music and other files… I know how important that the music is!!
thanks nahant – thank you very much
i’ve got duane allman/boz skaggs’ cut of loan me a dime along with a buncha bootleg stuff
From whence comes the “Turkey Trots”. s)
crap – hit submit too soon
…bootleg stuff that i haven’t heard in a couple years
I may try that.
sigh. no. could you tell me about this?
if this is the SIVs (Structured investment vehicles), then yeah i know a bit about that. and i agree with your description of the buisness plan.
the worst i think i’ve heard was 30 to 1. but i really have no clue. it all sound just insane to me.
today i found a “sternly worded letter” that mukasey sent cox in october:
btw, i’m working on a regulation / deregulation timeline (mostly the legislative stuff – bills, hearings, etc) focusing on otc derivatives and the clinton years. i posted a draft today if you are interested – it has links to committee hearing transcripts and other primary source docs.
irreplaceable stuff if ya ask me!! I hate losing good music.. I got all my albums I had purchased while in Germany when my little sisters had a party at the house… I was fit to be tied.. I had the European release of the White Album amongst others that could not be gotten in the US…still pisses me off these many years later…
hey selise – you’re up late tonight
maybe a usb flash drive?
i think the old system has a usb port – not sure. i bought it back in the mid 90’s iirc
Having an apple sandwich. Tangential slice inside a bun with a we bit of melted butter.
Bernanke is saving the retirement on the backs of the next generation.
Some kids pan handled me for three dollars yesterday…hey guys were in a recession. That is when the crime goes up as Suz.
howdy suz. just a bit of insomnia…. was working on the timeline thingy, and then i saw bb’s link to the bernanke piece in the new yorker. didn’t even realize the time.
bad economic news always did mean job security for cops since the crime rates tend to go up as the economy goes down
that’s why my preferred law and order policy is full employment – and not building more jails.
figure you had a touch of it – tis about the only times i get to see ya (good for me but not so good for you)
Tea for One, music to ease you down.
Hiya folks, Suzanne, hit and run eye candy
yeah, for a little over a year now. last fall/winter was the worst. now it’s not so bad… nice for me too to get to see the late nite crowd. just so long as it’s not every night *g*
hey q – not even time for a dive?
i remember last fall/winter was a rough patch for ya
glad to hear it is not so bad this time around
maybe the ice on the lake is too thick??
Thanks for the offer, I’m toast, great show, the cam is insane. I’ll leave it at that…;-))
q being canadian, i figure he’s used to ice
perhaps next time?
I’ll take you up on that offer, no nudity that time…
I’m up late scanning my friends photo collection. I’ve been through two boxes… ’bout 800 photos so far. It’s a marathon.
Maybe for ice skating but surely not for diving specially the high dive ice can be very hard on your head…
neil, that’s being a true friend. my step-dad spent weeks at his computer scanning in all the photos in his collection – accumulated over 80 plus years.
well, I only do feet entries from 45 feet and up… Ice could tear up a thigh badly, maybe a buttocks…. Ouch.
the flaming hoops help melt the ice before entry
I’ve about had it. Nice to see you all tonite.
See you next time. :)
Oh! There’s a band?
Bonne nuit Neuro.
I try not to try and enter the water through the ice, seems the ice always wins one way or the other… Not to mention the water IS cold!! Your privates could just shrivel up and never come back to normal again..
“March 1995 – Less than 2 months after becoming Secretary of the Treasury, Rubin asked Congress to repeal the Glass-Steagall Act and to change the Bank Holding Company Act of 1956.” From your timeline at the link.
The old model Smith Barney advertises…”We make money the old fashioned way, we earn it.” Thr financials are so creative of financial instruments investment is treacherous waters. Work, save and plans are destroyed by the wild and fast games on wall street. Like a drunken gambler at the end of a losing streak walks away from the casino with nothing. (world wide) So shit happens when maases are disenfranchised… Bombay for one.
The gang on the Obama econ team…no reregs with the Bail Bucks
nite Neuro … sleep well and dream of Turkey chili(:>))
I flew kites at Nahant beach, early december, with a friend from Cambridge. Cool place…
g’nite neuro
Suzanne, It can be drudgery but she’s my best friend and she’s paying me market rate. I enjoy getting better at fixing up the image with Photoshop and I enjoy trying out the different presentation methods, such as creating a WMV with a music soundtrack.
Here’s a video I made from photos and video of my niece. It’s usually private but i made it public to show you.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9czP511CSSA
I scanned the family slide collection a few summers ago and made copies for all the family members. It was great fun to look at them together.
oh neil, she’s a cutie! thanks so much for sharing
I still love that place! When ever I get to the area I always make sure and go out there… my parents are buried there along with my dads whole family, mother father sisters and brothers… So I always have to visit no mater the weather… The Cemetary over looks what we called Sandy Beach between little Nahant and big Nahant.
I grew up swimming at that beach as a child with the whole extended family all there enjoying the water…. Fond memories indeed..
exactly.
the more i dig, the worse it looks. :(
and i still have a lot of stuff to go through, but figured i should post some of what i already have as a reference for others to use.
one thing i want to do is try to identify the few (too few) congress critters who really tried to fight the deregulation craze (sorta as i tried to do on fisa modification). markey and i think defazio were both pretty good.
oh well, still lots of hearings and bills to go through. sometimes i just lose motivation though…
Neil she is a cutie!!
Yeah, she’s a pip. She’s got a great memory and she’s mentally tough… a 2nd grader at that.
I’ll tell you a quick story about her. She wanted her mother’s attention because her mother was on the phone (you know how that goes.) Her mom usually let’s her two kids be noisy rather than ask them to be quiet. Anyway, the pip was unsuccessful after repeated attempts to get her mother’s attention and finally yelled out “My eyeballs are on fire!”. Her mom said (into the phone and) loud enough to be overheard, “Hold on Lynn, Irene’s eyeballs are on fire,” and turned towards Irene. Irene said, “Oh mom, It’s only a metaphor.”
laughing – her mom is gonna be gray before her time
ouch…. kids.. ya just never know what will come out of their mouths next(:>))
The kid likes butter. As recent as two years ago she’d get herself a piece of butter at dinner and eat it (not on bread). Anyway, I saw her last week and said, “You’re the butter girl.” Without missing a beat she said, “You ought to know, you’re the butter guy.” I took her to school one morning and she introduced me to her friends. I was impressed by her social graces. I don’t think I had the skill at her age.
ok pups, time for me to mop and wax the kitchen floor.
thanks for hanging out with me tonight pups – lurk will be around to assist ya with anything needed.
all the best Suzanne
Well, not anything.
nite suz

g’nite to suz and all.
Bush Passes Three-Pound Kidney Stone
nite pups

Film at eleven??
I guess it is time to hit the rack..
Nite pups! Sleep well when you get there..
BB13 From Page 6 here is the clearest revelation in the financial meltdown:
One of the supposed advantages of securitizing mortgages was that it allowed the risk of homeowners’ defaulting on their mortgages to be transferred from banks to investors. However, as the market for mortgage securities deteriorated, many banks ended up accumulating big inventories of these assets, some of which they parked in off-balance-sheet vehicles called conduits. “We knew that banks were creating conduits,” Don Kohn, the Fed’s vice-chairman, told me. “I don’t think we could have recognized the extent to which that could come back onto the banks’ balance sheets when confidence in the underlying securities—the subprime loans—began to erode.”
is a conduit the same thing as a SIV? or are they something different?
