Breaking banner at Reuters: “Iraq parliament passes law approving security pact with United States, U.S. troops to withdraw by end 2011: state TV 8:07am EST”

Mornin Pups, sharing the day with family and friends, eating turkey and watching the Detroit Lions continue their record breaking losing streak.
They also passed a call for a referendum in 6 months which could then undo.
Forces are to withdraw to bases by june.
Good Morning…… today we are departing from turkey day and having pot roast…. had my fill of turkey in hospital….. my two youngest kids are coming over this afternoon for dinner and Elmore has been here for two weeks…..
Now enjoying a quiet moment….. everyone is asleep…. it is raining outside…. having “real” coffee for the second morning in a row….. ahhhh
Hi katymine – happy nonturkey thanksgiving.
shrub has always said if they ask us to leave we will. i don’t believe it fer a second.
(((katymine)))
A little later this mornin’ I’ll be makin’ cornbread and baking power biscuits. Then it’s over to a friend’s house. It’s usually a fairly large affair but this year it’s just 4 friends. That’s how it got started many moons ago and due to the rest of the crew going to family for various reasons it’s back to the original bunch of beach
drunksbums. 20+ years. Where has the time gone?Currently listening to the live version of Arlo’s “Alice’s Restaurant” on da radio. Another tradition.
The one day of the year when this ex-pat Detroiter roots for the Lions, and who do they face? The awesome Titans. Oh well. Sunday I can go back to rooting for the not-so-dreadful Bears.
Happy Thanksgiving
There’s no place like home.
mornin’ all.
Happy Boid Day.
Yesterday Elmore and I saw the most spectacular double rainbow coming back from grocery shopping. Its been raining here in Phoenix and the sun peaked out and one of the brightest well defined rainbows went across the sky….. the local news showed pictures of it last evening…..
Good morning, puppies. What’s the diff ‘tween whipping cream and heavy whipping cream? Besides the calorie count… is either ok for making whipped cream?
Hey everybody!
Katy – I’m so glad you’re home with Elmore and your dog and your own sheets! (I’m still visualizing, baby.)
Southern Dragon – is that “power” or “powder” bisquits?
Calrealitycheck! – Dood, is this your 1st holiday with us?
(((katymine)))!!! You’re home. How wonderful! Been thinking about you, lady. Kick ass, please and thank you.
Today is the a Market Day Thanksgiving at the sister-in-law’s place.
Mrs Mack has planned a Saturday feast here which we will actually prepare from scratch. And she invited a couple of nice old church ladies over as well.
I am debating smoking the turkey. Never tried that before.
Elliot, Mike, Bluetoe and twolf too! Sounds like a good name for a Band, si?
Very Happy Great Gratefullness Day!
What are you eating today, sweetie?
I’ll bet you’ve got a ton of great thanksgiving day memories to replay today.
Big long hug, sister!
Finally returned to my long-neglected blog last night. Reflected a bit on this particular Thanksgiving. Thankful for health, health, health. All else can be managed somehow when the body is healthy.
And what’re brother Garry and I doing today? Over the railroad tracks and through the neighborhood to son’s house we go. Lotza people, some of my grands. We thought we’d eat football and watch the turkey.
Prolly better to smoke the turkey than the church ladies. Although, I hear they go well with jello.
(no snark. I am one of those church ladies.)
Powder. I was obviously payin’ more attention to Arlo Guthrie than I was to my typing.
If anybody’s into Florida folk music here’s a clip of the late great Gamble Rogers. Told the funniest stories of a little imaginary town and it’s inhabitants. Gave his life trying to save another.
Thanks, hon! Pretty traditional fare, I think. I used to be Thanksgiving host, back in the big house days. The only thing I really miss about that is the smell of that big bird baking. Mmmmmmm . . . .
Hey Doodle!
Think Beatles….it’s so….Heavy!
today in the little town my parents live in Oregon…. an army of volunteers are starting to cook the “town” Thanksgiving dinner…… it is a group of the churches who take turns on hosting the dinner and it is open to anyone in town for free…. It is the towns version of feeding the poor ……. those who can donate money for their dinner but it is not required….. volunteers take turns cooking, serving and clean up.
It really warms your heart that small towns do this and it also makes me feel better that my parents will have dinner among their friends in the community and not alone.
WILLIAM BOLCOM’s: LIME JELLO MARSHMALLOW COTTAGE CHEESE SURPRISE – Lyrics
(spoken throughout – `pitches` ad lib):
LADIES, THE MINUTES WILL SOON BE READ TODAY.
THE GARDEN CLUB AND WEAVING CLASS
I`M SURE HAVE MUCH TO SAY…
BUT NEXT WEEK IS OUR CULTURE NIGHT,
OUR BIGGEST, BEST EVENT,
AND I`VE JUST MADE A DISH FOR IT
YOU`LL ALL FIND HEAVEN SENT:
IT`S MY LIME JELLO MARSHMALLOW COTTAGE CHEESE SURPRISE
WITH SLICES OF PIMENTO,
(YOU WON`T BELIEVE YOUR EYES,)
ALL TOPPED WITH A PINEAPPLE RING
AND A DASH OF MAYONAISE,
MY VANILLA WAFERS `ROUND THE EDGE
WILL WIN YOUR HIGHEST PRAISE.
AND MISSUS JONES IS MAKING SCONES
THAT ARE FILLED WITH PEANUT MOUSSE;
TO BE FOLLOWED BY A CHICKEN MOLD
THAT`S MADE IN THE SHAPE OF A GOOSE.
FOR LADIES WHO MUST WATCH THOSE POUNDS
WE`VE FOUND A SPECIAL DISH:
STRAWBERRY ICE
ENSHRINED IN RICE
WITH BITS OF TUNA FISH.
AND MY LIME JELLO MARSHMALLOW COTTAGE CHEESE SURPRISE
(TRULY A CREATION THAT DESCRIPTION DEFIES)
WILL GO SO WELL
WITH MISSUS BELL`S CREATION OF THE WEEK:
SHRIMP SALAD TOPPED WITH CHOC`LATE SAUCE
AND GARNISHED WITH A LEEK.
AND MISSUS PERKINS` WALNUT LOAF
THAT`S CROWNED WITH MELTED CHEESE
WAS SUCH A HIT LAST CULTURE NIGHT,
WE ASK: NO SECONDS PLEASE!
NOW YOU MUST TRY
HER HOT DOG PIE
WITH CANDIED MUSHROOM SLICES…
THOSE LADIES WHO RESIGNED LAST YEAR,
THEY JUST DON`T KNOW WHAT NICE IS!
BUT MY LIME JELLO MARSHMALLOW COTTAGE CHEESE SURPRISE,
I DID NOT STEAL THAT RECIPE,
IT`S LIES,
I TELL YOU, LIES!
OUR GRAND AWARD:
A PICTURE HAT
AND A SALMON SEQUINED GOWN
FOR ANY GIRL WHO TRIES EACH DISH
AND KEEPS HER WHOLE LUNCH DOWN.
I`M SURE YOU ALL ARE WAITING
FOR THE BIGGEST NEWS: DESERT!
WE`VE THOUGHT OF THINGS
IN MOLDS AND RINGS
YOUR DIET TO SUBVERT.
YOU MUST TRY OUR CHOC`LATE LAYER CAKE
ON A PEANUT BRITTLE BASE
WITH SLICES OF BANANAS
THAT MAKE A FUNNY FACE.
AROUND THE EDGES PEPPERMINTS
JUST SWIMMING IN PEACH CUSTARD,
WITH LOVELY LITTLE CURLICUES
OF LOVELY YELLOW MUSTARD!
IF ALL THIS IS TOO MUCH FOR YOU,
PERMIT ME TO ADVISE
MORE LIME JELLO MARSHMALLOW COTTAGE CHEESE SURPRISE!
(I`VE MADE HEAPS!)
Cool. We need more of that in our country.
Oh, ha, ha, ha, ha. Seriously, almost too funny.
Will print and take to my mom’s this afternoon. My one sister will be rolling on the floor. The other will, say, what’s so funny? Those recipes sound good.
Katy – we ended up with ‘The turkey that ate St. Louis”(hey, we ordered it and dayam, that thing is big), so I’m afraid we will be eating turkey for..quite a while. I have the feeling this is going to turn into the Thanksgiving version of what happens when you get too many zucchinis in the garden.:)
Glad to see you are up and about and …mmmmm…having coffee…
Made me a little queasy, Weezie.
Cream
So it looks like it is butterfat vs. milk content is the difference
That is in the tradition of the first T-day, glad to hear the tradition is still alive after all the years.
(((((Katymine)))))
don’t forget the broccoli ;-)
