Saxby Chambliss' smear campaign against Jim Martin could be backfiring, because it looks like we've got a race on our hands.
An InsiderAdvantage poll conducted for Politico.com shows Saxby Chambliss with a three-point lead over Democratic challenger Jim Martin, which is within the poll’s four-point margin of error.
...
“This thing’s going to be a nailbiter,” Insider CEO Matt Towery told Politico. “We don’t know who’s going to turn out and we don’t know how it’s going to turn out, but it’s going to be a close race.”
Meanwhile, a DSCC poll shows the race within 2 points.
Other runoff updates:

- Obama pitches in for Martin

We can still get to 60. Support Jim Martin.

Awesome that we’re so close to booting out the incumbent.
Best of luck to Martin!
Let’s send Sexless Charmless back to the land of whatever.
Digg please
It sure would be nice to see Chambliss forcibly retired.
They’re so petrified of Coleman losing that they’re desperate for Chambliss to hold the Georgia seat. It wouldn’t matter if Charles Manson were running, Rudy, McCain, Huck and Willard would still campaign for him.
if Martin wins, there is a God.
me, i’m a skeptic/agnostic. it sounds like somebody’s just trying to help news at 5 get a little extra advertising revenue.
1,837 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Citizen Blue Texan:
For God’s sake people, Obama can’t make a stop in Georgia before he gets sworn in…do ya remember when President Kennedy thought it was safe ta show up in Texas??!! Jesus, jest pour the money in and hand Martin the voter lists from the general election and send MICHELLE down ta Atlanta for a day…that’ll do it for Saxby Pantywaste.
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION, ALL THEY’VE GOT LEFT IS WAR!!
I’m not sure if Obama would help in Georgia- he lost the state.
God has nothing to do with it.
Why bring that up? Especially an agnostic.
People choose, decide, make it happen.
But, I believe God is getting a good laugh on this.
I hadn’t considered (until now) that with the campaign over, the Secret Service might discourage superfluous travel. Probably not, I don’t think they can set the itinerary, although they can dictate to some extent how events are coordinated at a given destination. His absence is probably due mostly to the desire to appear non-partisan, combined with his plate being pretty full at the moment.
let me put it another way, Martin winning would be for me like Saul’s conversion on the road. i.e., i would find it difficult to remain an agnostic …..
Dugg and donated. Almost nothing would make me happier than seeing Morris and Hannity piddle all the way home…
David Sirota upstairs
taking the battle to the Republicans on their own turf though is the right strategy. they need to know that nothing can be taken for granted.
Okay. I can see why you are an agnostic, though. If you need a political victory to believe.
Stuff like babies and sunsets and the Grand Canyon and chocolate and hugs and people helping each other out work for me. *g*
I dont see it affirming anything other than people got involved and made a difference, unlike the story of Saul, and his probable ‘heat stroke’which was of course attributed to something Divine, what unexplained event wasnt?
There is reason to hope. Caribou Barbie is coming to Georgia to campaign for Saxby Shameless. Maybe she will piss enough moderates off to change the tide.
Saxby Shameless has supported George W.Shameful so closely that he needs to leave the scene with him! Jim Martin at least for now wants to represent his constituents, which will be a fresh breeze blowing after being disenfranchised for so long by dear old Saxby!
Let the record show that Jim Martin’s improbable ascendancy in this race dates from his denunciation of Chambliss’ support for the Bush Bottomless Bailout–which has only gotten more bottomless, in recent days, despite the assurances of Paulson, Bernanke, Geithner, et al.
Unfortunately, among those joining Chambliss in backing the Bush Bottomless Bailout–was Barack Obama.
It is my hope that when the President-elect learns of the lunacy of the multi-hundred trillion dollar ‘derivatives market,’ he will reconsider writing the London/Wall Street gambling set a blank check.
Go Jim!
