  • Bill Richardson to head Commerce.
  • More Obama political appointees here.
  • Corporate welfare for Citi.
  • But why not GM?
  • Steve Forbes doesn’t think much of Paulson.
  • Maybe someone needed an exorcism: Jindal in Iowa.
  • I don’t think this is gonna last very long.
  • New Deal denialism.

around about 1:30 into that video of Lieberman on MTP, he does admit that Obama’s yet to call him back.

Considering what Obama did for that guy already, I think he feels he’s already ’sent his message’ to Sen. Lieberman.

Good morning BT. Thanks for the link fest but not for the vid of that hideous little man.

….why not GM?
Because they actually make shit. Uncle Hank and company are not capable of admitting that their fantasy of a service based economy is an abject failure. Oh, and he still thinks he is a master of the universe.

Pssst…that link for the Forbes story isn’t working. Think the date in the URL should be 24, not 23.

You can snag it here.

I heard on the radio this morning that stores like J C Pennys are seeing more cash sales vice credit cards and that more people are shopping on payday, which was usually the norm at discount stores like Wally World. Are we beginning to see people trying to live within their means?

I have a feeling the arrogant Hank Paulson doesn’t give a damn what Steve “Flat Tax” Forbes thinks. It is, however, about the only thing I’ve ever agreed with Forbes on.

Great smackdown by Greg Mitchell of uber wingnut Mark Halperin

http://www.eandppub.com/2008/1…..grape.html

====================================
It’s the old false equivalency problem. In his “disgusting” remarks at the forum, Halperin cited as the most obvious flaw the NYT’s late profiles of Cindy McCain and Michelle Obama. Why, the McCain profile was more negative! But, come of think of it, Michelle did not have an affair with Barack while he was married to another, did not steal money from her own charity and barely avoid jail, did not become a drug addict, did not lie about the the circumstances of adopting a baby abroad, and so on.

eCAHN,
dKos has a link to an article saying that elected officials scored and average of 39 on the civics test you linked the other day. It says the general public averaged 33 on it. I verifies my long time contention that science and math are not the only subjects whch need to be reemphasized in public education. It also explains Bush’s two elections.

US elected officials scored abysmally on a test measuring their civic knowledge, with an average grade of just 44 percent, the group that organized the exam said Thursday.

Ordinary citizens did not fare much better, scoring just 49 percent correct on the 33 exam questions compiled by the Intercollegiate Studies Institute (ISI).

chomsky : the goal of advertising is to keep consumers ignorant/uninformed so they can make irrational choices.

in the same way that markets are undermined (need informed consumers making rational choices), democracy is underminded.

Having majored in and taught U.S. history for a couple of years, it’s appalling to me. I always taught that history is to a society what memory is to an individual. I still think that’s true, and ours now “wakes up to a new world every morning.”
