- Bill Richardson to head Commerce.
- More Obama political appointees here.
- Corporate welfare for Citi.
- But why not GM?
- Steve Forbes doesn’t think much of Paulson.
- Maybe someone needed an exorcism: Jindal in Iowa.
- I don’t think this is gonna last very long.
- New Deal denialism.

Good question BT, why not GM?
around about 1:30 into that video of Lieberman on MTP, he does admit that Obama’s yet to call him back.
aHAHAHAHA
Considering what Obama did for that guy already, I think he feels he’s already ’sent his message’ to Sen. Lieberman.
Good morning BT. Thanks for the link fest but not for the vid of that hideous little man.
….why not GM?
Because they actually make shit. Uncle Hank and company are not capable of admitting that their fantasy of a service based economy is an abject failure. Oh, and he still thinks he is a master of the universe.
Pssst…that link for the Forbes story isn’t working. Think the date in the URL should be 24, not 23.
You can snag it here.
I heard on the radio this morning that stores like J C Pennys are seeing more cash sales vice credit cards and that more people are shopping on payday, which was usually the norm at discount stores like Wally World. Are we beginning to see people trying to live within their means?
I have a feeling the arrogant Hank Paulson doesn’t give a damn what Steve “Flat Tax” Forbes thinks. It is, however, about the only thing I’ve ever agreed with Forbes on.
Chomsky on democracynow points out that 2008 election was bought: 9 out of 10 winners outspent their opponents.
ooo, Chomsky’s out. His wife as been very ill and he has been noticeably absent from the spotlight.
edit – wife
ashas beenPreview is mah fren
They’re replaying a speech he made recently. Didn’t catch where.
The record shows Joe took the blows, and did it his way.
;>)
Chomsky sez Obama won the advertiser’s prize for best marketing campaign of the year. Beat out Apple.
the best democracy money can buy. this is why i think that electoral politics can not, by itself, make more than marginal change (not trying to denigrate marginal change).
i have a problem with all of them everyone supported bush for eight years they knew what was going on i could see it and you have all these analysts on t.v especially msnbc and up until it hit they were everything will be fine and here we are bailing out all these banks yet nothing for american car manufacturers when they are gone what will we have foreign car makers now if this doesn’t souond strange it makes me wonder who is invested in these banks and are they protecting their money
Are you listening? Compares U.S. election of 2008 to genuine elections in Haiti & Bolivia where real change occurred (well, as long as the U.S. lets them).
Great smackdown by Greg Mitchell of uber wingnut Mark Halperin

====================================
It’s the old false equivalency problem. In his “disgusting” remarks at the forum, Halperin cited as the most obvious flaw the NYT’s late profiles of Cindy McCain and Michelle Obama. Why, the McCain profile was more negative! But, come of think of it, Michelle did not have an affair with Barack while he was married to another, did not steal money from her own charity and barely avoid jail, did not become a drug addict, did not lie about the the circumstances of adopting a baby abroad, and so on.
yes, just turned it on at your comment (i’ve been listening later by podcast)
chomsky discussing the difference between spectators vs action and what kind of democracy do we want
eCAHN,
dKos has a link to an article saying that elected officials scored and average of 39 on the civics test you linked the other day. It says the general public averaged 33 on it. I verifies my long time contention that science and math are not the only subjects whch need to be reemphasized in public education. It also explains Bush’s two elections.
Earlier in the program Chomsky talked about the Obama Army (referring to the gigantic numbers of small donors), pointing out that the purpose of armies is to follow orders.
WANS (we are not surprised).
chomsky : the goal of advertising is to keep consumers ignorant/uninformed so they can make irrational choices.
in the same way that markets are undermined (need informed consumers making rational choices), democracy is underminded.
The scores I saw from firepups were in the 80 and 90 percentile range. The average score for the month of November was 77 percent.
chomsky: the choice of biden must have been a conscious attempt to show contempt for those supporters who were against the war.
Chomsky sez Obama personnel selections are a conscious contempt for people who voted for him on antiwar basis: Biden supported war, Emmanuel was a rabid supporter.
Yeah sorry, I got the wrong scores. The point remains the same. My entry also verifies that I need remedial typing and editorial training, if not civics and history.
This time I owe you a beverage. What would you like to go with you homemade bread & jam?
chomsky is running through obama’s choices: biden, emanuel, financial crisis advisors
I’d like to see some scores from PowerLine and RedState folks. heh heh
i agree about biden. even tried to say something at the time.
peets fair trade coffee, thank you. *g*
Loved the one about choosing Obama’s economic team is like choosing OBL to run the war on terror.
Got a different brand of fair trade, French roast. Hold out your cup.
will look for complete chomsky talk. so refreshing to hear someone who doesn’t pull his punches.
Off to do stuff. BBL.
One thing Chomsky’s not afraid of – the truth.
Having majored in and taught U.S. history for a couple of years, it’s appalling to me. I always taught that history is to a society what memory is to an individual. I still think that’s true, and ours now “wakes up to a new world every morning.”
Only thing I got to offer ya is protein drink.
Society wide Alzheimer’s.
thank you. all kinds of coffee = goodness.
loved the bit about obl running obama’s wot too. course with obama’s push to escalate in afghanistan and attack in pakistan, i can’t say for sure the wot isn’t being run according to obl’s playbook. :(
Maybe what an old fried of mine used to call “Irish alzheimers,” where you forget everything except grudges.
Rediscovered a book in my library yesterday. Beyond the Khyber Pass – The Road to British Disaster in the First Afghan War by John H Waller. Pub in 1990 as the Russian’s were withdrawing. Wonder if any of these fools have read it.
LOL. Oh, that’s so true of Rethugs.
My cold has broken up so it’s back to the great capitalist cesspool. Damn. I was gettin’ used to watching hearings and such.
Be good to yourselves, and all other living things.
Namaste
Lies My Teacher Told Me, Everything Your American History Textbook Got *rong, by James W. Loewen, ISBN 0-684-81886-8 must have gutted you as well. No culture that turns its back on knowledge ever survives, and this is what has happened for political gain, a gain the world and loose your soul price is being paid by the children and their children for generations to come.
this fool hasn’t. but then, the list of books i want to read keeps getting longer… am going to need at least 6 lifetimes.
“as an independent democrat”? what’s that? which is it? LIeb is slime.
There’s one thing that’s been bugging me. Can’t Connecticut do recall elections? Why not do that and kick Joe out, like, next year?
OBL IS running the war on terror.
