Spearhead "Say Hey"
Damien Jurado "Ohio"
Are you the kind of person who avoided the cracks in the sidewalk for a long time? Did you do this out of superstition or just as a courtesy to the power of myth? Do you remember the first time you decided to let go of the myth and just step on the cracks with gusto or take the time to feel the cracks with your bare feet or hands?
Tonight we start with Michael Franti and Spearhead’s new video, set to their song, Say Hey, who always embrace the cracks in the world’s sidewalk, followed by a simple song from Damien Jurado, Ohio, which does much the same from a very different angle.
What’s on your mind tonight?

Digg is open for Friday late late nite!
Barefoot?! It’s 24 deg. here! ;-)
Hey ES, hey everyone.
Hey!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RertKgZKFbM
Almost cold enough for socks..)
Hey LL
ES, I busted out the fuzzy slippers tonight for the first time this season ;-)
step on a crack and break your mama’s back
aint no way i’m messing with my mom
Barefootin’
After I wrote up this post this afternoon.. a little angel told me Michael Franti actually goes barefoot all the time..
Bring on the cracks! Nice tunes ES, I am more partial to the first, very happy and upbeat.
i was kinda ocd about stepping on the cracks, if i stepped on one with one i had to step on another with my other.
The Beastie Boys again?
Dugg yer Digg, nahant!
but you knew I would.
Makes me want to head way down south and dance the winter away.
w3rd
Sign me up!
Music and dancin are good for the soul…
a lot easier to do in sf – i was a barefoot at home kinda person until i moved up to the cabin. now i’m really in sock and sweater country.
Rachel is on Conan tonight, for those interested. On right now, as a matter of fact!
But of course! You always do, just as I always Digg your diggs!
How goes tonight Neuro?
I feel like such a wimp, I live and So Cal and I think it is cooold when it is 64 or less.
anybody else get the new little ranking thing on google searches?
Rachel is one of my favorites. So glad she got her own show.
??
Agreed. Her voice is important.
Forgive my ignorance, what is the new ranking thing?
She is my favorite on network TV. Thank goddess she got a show!
Hiya Sophie!
Some snow here and about 25 degrees right now – we have a fire blazing and some wine and sugar walnuts. Life is good for an old hippie with her son home with girlfriend of great importance.
kinda like reddit or digg, a prompt and delete click next to the links in the search
She is so smart and knows how to articulate progressive ideas and opinions without sounding shrill.
But but that is cold! At least to me… blood has thinned since I moved here to NorCal 30 years ago. I used to love the cold winters for ice skating , snowmobiling, hunting and ice fishing amongst many winter fun things! But now forget it me and the cold don’t see eye to eye and I keep the wood burner stoked with wood!
Sounds very nice. Family can be a great thing. My fireplace is gas burning, which I don’t much care for. I love a real wood burning fireplace. The sound of the wood crackling, the smell….sweet. Wine and nuts sound good too.
Her guests keep saying “Rachel, that’s a great question.”
We love her — smart, articulate, brave, honest, bold.
Snow and cold are easily visited here in CA, but I do love the weather here in So Cal.
Rachel for President 2016!
46 here outside with a breeze blowing in all the cold air behind the last storm – but its a toasty 70 inside
Thanks for the explanation :-)
ok, went to a wine tasting party for a charity, had a fine time. how you doin’?
A picture is worth…
http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2u5rpyw&s=4
Not by me! Like I said me and the cold don’t see eye to eye. So we have an agreement the snow and the worst of the cold stays in the mountains and I say here in the Bay Area away from it. It is nice to see the snow from the comfort of a warm car… but play in ti well thats a whole nother animal…
Got my Vote already!! Can’t we vote into the Future??
I envy you for your fireplace, Christine!
Rachel is the best.
So your son has a girlfriend of great importance, eh? Sounds very nice. Do you like her?
On a purely shallow note, Rachel rocks those specs too — mine are similar ;-)
I see, now I understand.
Doing OK seems (knock on wood) that things are calming down…I hope!!
Hey if you can buy futures on stocks, why not elections?
I do, too. :)
Oh neuro, I have to get Mr.CE to take a photo of the fireplace to post this holiday. We had three needs when house buying in Cleveland: fireplace; screened-in-porch; yard for children. Now, empty nest, two out of three still wonderful.
bad news: as I suspected, I need a new roof
good news: insurance company will pay for it–hail damage. :)
I love SF and the Bay Area. Used to date a couple of guys from there, not at the same time of course. One in Mill Valley and one in the city. I loved to visit. The city has so much to do and the burbs surrounding are beautiful. I love Mill Valley, Stinson Beach.
Daym sounds good to me.
Very, very much. We married early at 24 years of age in 1975. They are 27 …
strange, i’m all fascinated by new google features.
I should go to sleep or go back to dancing, lol.
That’s a bit of good news then, neuro. Insurance comes through for us sometimes!
SF has great restaurants, great shopping…
That’s wonderful. 27 is a good age.
Go for the dancing!
Put on your red shoes and dance the blues
I have been in Redwood city for 30 years and just love it, close to everything in the area and easy to get there, less than 15 miles through Woodside and La Honda to the coast. @0 miles to the City and 20 miles to San Jose… couldn’t get much better and the city can’t get bigger… no place to build more stuff just rebuild some of the old houses!
I got a bumper sticker in the mail today from DFA:
“I voted for Obama”
love the message, but wonder if I should put it on my car for fear of being vandalized, there was so much hate in this election
*snoopy dance*
I have not investigated, but I see that there are color features?
I need red shoes to dance this lake effect snow away!
I guess it depends on your locale. Around here I get nothing but approving looks and comments from my neighbors, in this deep purple section of previously red NoVa.
You do have a sweet spot there.
Just south of Stinson… Steep Ravine, with a little cove beach… in low tide warm springs would bubble up through the sand.
I love the snoopy dance!
anybody know if KO is repeated at 2 am EST on Friday nites?
missed it tonite due to extracurricular activities
Eeek, tw3k…we were supposed to see snow showers Friday from that system, but it never happened.
Sounds too good!
looks like it just ranks certain results for youself.
*shrug*
might need different accounts for different moods!
Not sure, but I can let you know in about 15…
I was so happy on election nite to see Obama carry VA! knew it was a good omen. and then, ohio, colorado, NM, nevada, FL…like a dream come true
I don’t think it’s on again tonight, not here anyway.
Not tonight. Lock-up-Fest.
But it is, or will be, here.
Two responses:
1.Lake effect: are you in the Mid-west, like OHIO?
2.Red shoes mean Louboutons?
neuro, VA was astounding to me on election night. Like you say, a dream come true!
Isn’t it sad when you can’t express your joy for fear of retailiation by idiots!
supposed to be “retaliation”
I wonder what it costs to rent a billboard!
(wish we had edit back)
Although in retrospect, it shouldn’t have been all that astounding — given the fact that 90K-plus showed up in deep red Prince William County, VA on the eve of election night at the Obama rally.
I’ll chip in!
Sorry,
Louboutins. And I could cry at VA turning blue.
me too! can’t seem to find a good youtube tho.
Chris, ain’t it great? Still pinching myself at times.
Virginia did herself proud!
Should be a crime, what is better than the Snoopy Dance?
I think I would have it read, simply,
President Obama
Yes We Did!
even though he didn’t carry KS, the sentiment is the same
had a foot last night and suppose to 20″ tonight. Seems to have dumped it all here before even getting down to pitt town.
Amen!
here’s a short Snoopy dance
Too much snow.
schroeder on the piano?
Holy cow, tw3k! Hope you have a sturdy shovel!
We cried at the news, really.
that’s what i was looking for :)
tw3k :-)
Thanks for this, got a good giggle. Peanuts are happy people and they supported Obama!
yeah, the equator sounds great right now.
I think Snoopy has a slight edge…
I had been watching the battleground states carefully, and knew VA was in play, but it seemed too good to be true
yet, I had “hope!”
such a good feeling to see things falling into place on election nite
I worked the last 3 days before the election on GOTV in Missouri
they finally called MO yesterday, i think, for McCain but by less than 4,000 votes
still glad I went and worked
I was checking out the Seychelles on the internet the other day. Very nice. Bora Bora is pretty sweet as well.
Envision me doing that Snoopy dance on election night with a glass of Champagne in one hand, and a huge smile on my face ;-)
About 27 years ago I worked with crew for a couple of months in the backwoods of VA. The only local guy (company man) working with us had an extreme accent… one like I had never heard before.. and I come from the deep south myself. Anyway it took me several weeks of talking to this old fellow every day to begin to have the slightest clue what he was talking about at any given time. Turned out it wasn’t the accent that was the problem… it was that he talked soooooo slow. Really really slow.
Your work was noble indeed and maybe MO goes blue next time….
Great job on GOTV, neuro!
Very sweet and happy picture!
ES- check this out
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fa4qmktM5o
Gosh I love the Snoopy dance. My sister lived in Lausanne, Switzerland. They had a shop that was all Snoopy things , ALL THINGS. Charming though.
ES, whereabouts in VA? Many varied accents here, depending on the locale.
I was born and raised in NoVA, and have been told either that I have no accent, or that I sound very Southern.
even over the Teletubbies?!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v…..re=related
I love Ali Farka Toure !
i can dig that:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIcNpUW1oxA
The teletubbies are cute, but Snoopy still gets my vote. The Seychelles vid on youtube is pretty awesome.
A full couple of days’ worth of baking looms ahead for me, so it’s time for me to say good night all…
We were camping on site way out in the middle of nowhere. It’s been so long now I really don’t remeber the nearest small towns. We drove into Richmond one weekend for
beersupplies… I know that took at least a couple of hours. The backwoods of VA were a sight to behold. I can still see giant Holly trees among other things in my minds eye.
G nite, LL
Nite LL, happy baking…

It so is. Just thinking about it makes me want to Snoopy Dance!
I seriously think I am going to have to make it a place I must visit.
Just home from work. Anyone still up?
zzzzzzzzzzzzzz yup…but watching SciFi channel… How goes it ET
I am Snoopy dancing to the thought of the Seychelles, see youtube vid at 115. Hope you are well.
Watching Stargate Atlantis and they are having fun with Freeze lightening because of a space time bridge… Rodney’s friend was trying to use the bridge to cool the planet and stop global warming… as usual something has gone wrong…
Love the Sci-Fi channel.
I like SG Atlantis, but SG-1 was my favorite.
Oh yeah but Atlantis is still great… I love the Rodney character… he is such a NERD!!
Back from rehearsing with the Anchorage Civic Orchestra. The highlight of tomorrow’s concert will be Liszt’s Totentanz, which is a great work, and it will be well played.
I get to have dinner tomorrow, after the concert with author Joe McGinnis.
He so is a nerd, but also a tad obnoxious…
What instrument do you play?
http://ihasahotdog.files.wordp…..our-up.jpg
If you ever wonder why people in the ’60s sometimes inhaled….
Sounds great ET… I have been making sure to stop by your place daily and you sure have been keeping us up to date on the Alaska political scene. I love the Turkey Vid… Sarah is such a Turkey Too bad she had to show the world just how much she iswacked out…. Glad she is not one heart beat from being prez!! OMG!
Puff the Magic Dragon….
inhaled what Margot???
With Jackie Papers ha ha
Time to go shovel again. Happy Seychelles dreams all.
I hope there are clean recordings of that on some shelf somewhere.
and to you as well, nite.
I didn’t know for a long time what the song was really about. Pretty funny.
Obama has to start laying out the ground work for change for example real reporting on unemployment numbers would help…I suspect in the red states most of all.
http://www.ritholtz.com/blog/2…..sal-u3-u6/
I want the real numbers broken down by state. We can’t have an FDR mandate for change until we have real numbers.
I knew, it was those funny yellow cigarettes!! Didn’t hurt to have older sister who lived in Greenwich Village in the late 50’s early 60’s! She made sure we knew!!
Big sisters can be good. I am one myself.
I’m sure there are.
It’s just so weird to see the younger brother Bonanza talking to a parrot, and a girl is posing with a rifle, then music that sounds like the June Taylor Dancers are about to start up, and then, the Byrds.
Sock it to me.
This whole the economy is tanking story well its true and it can get worst. The GOP seems to think that if they stand firm in 4 years Obama will get the blame but in four years there will be nothing left.
Unlike England, France and Germany we invested under FDR in ourselves while they fought WW2. these investments paid off when we went to war.
We had the stronger economy we could make more weapons. Why FDR dropped the military budget and put in to America during peace time.
A productive investment that had returns on the investment. The Iraq war has returned nothing and its not likely too no matter how long we stay.
Hey they don’t count those who have exhausted their unemployment benies… real true count my ass. Just a way for the powerful to hide the real truth about the employment situation… just one of the ways..
And that woman prop holding a gun. Boy, the studio folks had no clue.
But of course they are. My oldest has passed but I still have my other one and we remain close even though we are on different sides of the states! All of us are still close there were six of us… lots of fun on Saturday mornings while mom and dad slept in(:>))
Kind of difficult to believe the real numbers will be sorted out before the results of the next census. So many long term unemployed have not been accounted for since Jr stole the office.
But of course not it is after all a Bush project and he knows how to fail… he has done it more than once ya know!! Now look at what his leadership has done to this country, which WAS one of the richest, strongest, freest and best places to live in the World…
In this concert I play tuba and – I’m not making this up – triangle. I play keyboards, all brass instruments, percussion and the recorder family. 35 years ago, I played sitar too, but I haven’t picked one up since 1974.
I want Sen Mitch’s wife Elaine Cho to sweat blood defending the labor dept unemployment numbers during the Bush years.
Real Unemployment Rate Soars to 11.8%
As Alan Abelson points out in this week’s issue of Barron’s, 240,000 payroll slots went up in smoke in October, and that total would have been higher by 71,000 were it not for these mythical jobs that were “created” via the infamous birth/death model.
Abelson also notes that–
“The category that gives you a better feel for the way things really are out there on the the job front is dubbed U-6 and includes marginally attached workers, part-timers who can’t find a full-time job and the officially unemployed. In October, that measure reached 11.8%, the highest since 1994, when it was designed, compared with 7.9% a year ago
http://mrken45sworld.blogspot……o-118.html
Alan Abelson writes for Barron’s the WallStreet Journals Saturday paper not some left wing blog.
In other words its not only us who thinks Bush’s numbers are crooked, you do not get more pro business than Barron’s.
That is why Obama needs real numbers I want America to know just how much Bush was lying to them.
Even us Lefty bloggers are not up on that as much as we should be. The mandate for change should increase once we get those numbers out.
It will create political out cry even the blue dogs can’t ignore.
You think anyone has the nad to ask her?
evening Newt been lurking?? How goes it? things slowing down for you yet ??
Its not the Cenus its the birth death model Bush and Elaine Cho made changes in how the numbers are calculated.
Changes even probusiness Barron’s does not buy. Our butts are covered if we want to make a crusade I want the GOP to try and discredit Barron’s.
After all Rupert now owns it. Win/Win.
In and out.
And with a little luck, things will calm down by the end of next week.
Sure our front pagers if they turn the heat up, then KO and Rachel then Congress.
I admit the changes in the math of the birth/death model are unknown so far to me but if Barron’s has problems with it that is good enough for me. Maybe Ian can break it down and explain it.
The GOP is hyping ruin they want the big three carmakers to crash. Lets up the ante and point out the real unemployment numbers…which in their states should be interesting.
I think Thanksgiving hits on Thursday so that should slow things down…..
That last one… Congress… That would be something.
If we get what we want, once ChimpCo has departed the field, the floodgates of confession will swing open and the fuckery of the last 8 years will spill out. Only that will so embolden the timid Dems. I’m rooting for that, but will not put money on it.
KO and Rachel – we know where their sympathies lie. I’m certain they will attack with vigor.
GOP wants the Big three to fail so they can break more unions! They hate unions as then they just might have to pay living wages… banish the thought… Living wages oh noses… that wouldn’t work very for their bottom lines now would it??
Time for this old pup to turn in.
G’ nite firedogs…)
http://globaleconomicanalysis……ector.html
My bold I want the number of people who have stopped looking counted. I want a weighted number with more weight going to the higher paying jobs with benefits factored in.
Good Nite ES sleep well… dream of when we can call Obama President and we know there is someone with brains in the White House!!
nite eureka
Oh Oh Rachel is coming on Conan O’Brien!!
Reverse the question auto makers in Japan have National Healthcare in America the Japanese do not have to pay their workers for that. Only the big three do in a sense the right to work states are again defending slavery only this time for whites?

How
compares to American 15.2% GDP I don’t know exactly but it sure sounds higher but as far as a wait for treatment is concerned well if you are treating everybody the wait should be longer.
That and the Japanese live longer than us whatever they are doing we should copy.
Nite ES.
Things calm down? But I’ve been taking a break since Obama won if anything as more people get rested after the holidays things should perk up.
touché, bro
Had a discussion at work yesterday about the damage done to the manufacturing base and the potential for a recovery. It is not as simple as putting people back to work. So much of our manufacturing strength had government funded research at its’ root. This has been gutted for the last eight years. Many generations worth of science, math and engineering research squandered.
Manufacturing, perhaps more than any other sector, relies on the perpetuation of institutional knowledge. The keepers of same are the older more experienced hands but were the first cut to save a buck. Rebuilding the manufacturing base is not something that will happen in a single generation. It takes about 8 years to train a tool maker for instance. Without a laser focused, funds committed plan, it is not possible.
The reason I bring this up is because I believe we are now seeing the folly of a “service based economy”. The death spiral of an ever increasing number of service providers chasing an ever dwindling supply of cash because there is not enough new money that manufacturing provided.
True recovery will only happen if return to a manufacturing based economy and tell Wall St. analyst to STFU about earning projections and stock price. They are not the economy. We are.
Sorry for the rant, now back to lurking.
Maybe Obama will invite YOU to the White House!!
But of course we know that, that is why I still can’t fathom why coporations aren’t pushing for national health care… that would pull the biggest monkey off their backs and make them much more competitive. all the other countries have that advantage of us. No wonder we are losing so many jobs of all kinds to
china and India.. We will never be competitive until we do have national health care the savings would be stupendous if the Government entity actually negotiated pricing with the drug companies and medical equipment! Also just think if those who don’t have coverage no longer show up in the emergency room, where costs are inherently more expensive!
nite pups
Imagine if the big three could reduce healthcare costs by 15.2 %? Would they still be in trouble?
If anything the number is larger Japan treats everyone we don’t so that 15.2% of GDP is only paid for by those with health insurance so 15.2% GDP to insure only 84.7% of the people
In the United States, around 84.7% of citizens have some form of health insurance; either through their employer (59.3%), purchased individually (8.9%), or provided by government programs (27.8%; there is some overlap in these figures).[6]
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H…..ted_States
my bold
We are getting over charged. We are getting taken isn’t illness the number one reason for bankruptcy? Seems like we could help the banks with foreclosures, help the big three reduce healthcare costs all by getting National healthcare for everyone at say 1 % more than the Japanese are doing because America does not do government planning well.
hit one of many nails on the head oldnslow… the old hands were the first to go as they made more and yet they contributed more… experience counts in all job categories, except maybe in flipping burgers!

Be there in a shot!!
Lots of retirees flippin burgers.

Greed makes them justify not spending any money to help others because they will not believe that by helping others you help yourself. Chicago School Economics justifies/gives reason to what they want to believe.
Reasons why change desire remains the same.
We need a new system or an old one brought back.
Malaysia outlaws yoga for Muslims
See what happens when you have a Religion that is also the government… When will people learn the government and Religion just do not go together,,, always causes grief!
While I am not flippin burgers, my 30 years as a machinist, manufacturing engineer, quality engineer and 5 years as president now see me working back on the shop floor just as if I was fresh out of high school. My concern is not so much for me, but for manufacturing in general and the country. Not so long ago a machinist job was a ticket to middle class for a high school grad. Good pay, benies including retirement, ya know, a career. Now, not so much.
Fuck Milton Friedman and his FAILED economic theories. These businessmen think they are so freaking smart yet they fail to see just what those theories have done… Yes a few make bizillions but the majority get squat! And many lose their lives…
My old landlord was a welder he said the old guys were hiding tricks to do jobs quicker. Sure young people can muscle through stuff at physical jobs but in precision work you can’t do that.
The strength of our economy and banks I read someplace is based on our manufacturing not the other way around some English guy said about England changing from manufacturing to a financial economy.
I fear we are headed down the same road.
The problem is the GOP still believes.
Yes you can thank Ronal Regan for starting us down this road. He made greed the NEW religion and now look what we have. I worked for many years as a field engineer for Xerox on the early networks and computers… All that constant learning taught me a lot but can I land a job now?? Nope they just don’t want to pay for what I know and what I can do… thus I work for myself!
Real unemployment numbers might help burst that bubble.
new one based on the old one would be better…. Take the good from the old and add good from what has been learned… Once companies took care of their employees and in turn they did the best they could to make the company work and profitable…. Seems that sort of model should be brought back with national health care and this country could turn around rather quickly..
The GOP blames McCain for being weak, some blame Sarah others say Sarah should have taken the gloves off they all blame the financial crisis for McCain’s defeat.
Yet they never seem to notice that they created the financial crisis.
You would have to hold then down for them to even pay attention!!
Or the Dow could drop lower:)
Rachel up next on Conan!! Can’t wait to see whats on her mind tonight(:>)

I took shop never was that good but I understood the theory its why I can write about tech stuff now:)
For most of the ’80s and all of the ’90s I was a teacher on the shop floor. Having achieved the position of Keeper of the Institutional Knowledge it becomes the job to nurture the next generation of KotIK. Without that system, it is not possible to perpetuate the organization. That is what has been compromised. It was compromised to appease analysts that demanded ever increasing profit margin or the share price got battered. Stupid shit, that.
I like that kind of news on line library crashes because to many people want to use it. There is hope for the Human race yet:)
Allegations about 2002 Georgia election raise doubts on current voting
This is how the Rethuglians have been wining elections for a while now!! They can’t win without cheating and I hope Saxby Chambliss goes down in flames!!
How long do we got before the old folks die and we lose that ability to make stuff. How many people do we need and what kind of skills are needed to make quality stuff?
Can we make a Prius do we have enough skilled workers to make one for everybody?
OOPS link
I do blame St. Ronald the Union Buster for a lot of the current shit.
I’m wondering why the GOP didn’t steal this election like the last 2? Or maybe they did try but even they couldn’t stop the Obama tide? Its hard to believe they just stopped cheating now. I think they did but we have not caught them.
I think we are just to happy that we won.
Well Pups that it for me! Great talking with all of you…. Nite nite… sleep well when ya get there!
Nite Nahant
When I was working, the master carpenters from Hollywood who got their training building ’30s, ’40s, ’50s sets were doing their last supervisions at locations before retiring. There was an incredible mass of experience in each of them, and they were willing to share with anyone willing to listen. They have never been replaced, never can be replaced, unable to be replaced. A treasure disappeared without notice; the world is a lesser place for the passing.
Corporations are limited by their perspective which consists of:
1. Take care of the top level of management
2. Convince the public that good numbers are being made each quarter
Nothing else matters. Literally, nothing.
The nation, the public, the environment, be fucked. This is why corporations are not helpful in getting health insurance passed. This is why corporations do as little as possible to help improve the environment. This is why corporations do not blink an eye when vaporizing retirement systems, resist improving worker safety programs, and on and on…..
It is a mentality fostered by a culture that is destroying America. That’s just the way it is.
Can we make a Prius do we have enough skilled workers to make one for everybody?
Isn’t it tragic that this is even a question. Of course we can make a better car than a Prius. But our current crop of Captains of Industry are a wart on the ass of progress. Really learning impaired assholes imo.
Thinking about how to make things. Knowing kind of how they are made enables me to pick stocks. I just think of things like solar power wind power the things I wanted to make because they would make things better.
I am not looking to just make a buck I want to make a better future and kind knowing how to make stuff does help.
The finance world is full of bull not to many can talk like engineers but they make real stuff and thats where I try and invest.
Knowing how to make stuff has given me an edge I feel it helped round out my education. Auto mech 1 and 2, metals 1 and 2, drafting 1, wood shop in junior high and home ec.
I thought it was interesting but those on a college path are steered away from these classes.
I went to college because there was no jobs in those areas and I wasn’t that good still it helps.
Sounds like Jack Welch formerly of GE about making the numbers.
Its sad I have to ask true. Its even sadder that nobody in charge really knows what it takes to build a car. I hope we never lose that ability to make stuff. Tell me what do you think of the
http://www.aptera.com/
yeah, Jack Welch: Screw all of the workers who will be out of a job (2,000,000 – 3,000,000) if the system goes down. Like Krugman says, if the Big Three go into bankruptcy, the industry won’t be coming back, and the whole country will suffer a lot more than if something viable gets worked out.
Jack Welch was a great magician, and he had good timing.
He knew when to get out and he knew why he needed to get out: What he did wasn’t sustainable.

Its guys like him the GOP is still pointing to, they still believe…and that is our problem.
The GOP will fight for what they believe. Either the Dow has to go lower or Obama needs to get real numbers about unemployment and healthcare to the masses. We need truth to counter fantasy.
We need Michael Moore’s “Sicko ” on National TV.
We need real unemployment numbers from the Labor Dept. We need more stuff but I’m running low on ideas right now.
These guy promise a lot but I don’t think they can make what hey hope to.
should read
These guy promise a lot but I don’t think they can make what they hope to.
sorry
WOW. Had not seen that. More of that is just what we need. And not just cars.
When finance men make more than engineers I think that society is in trouble. When making stuff does not pay as well as advertising our society is in trouble.
And its American made too:)
And it gets better miles per gallon than a Prius even the next generation Prius thats coming out from what little I can gather.

This tech for car wheels is so scifi I wonder if it can be built never mind building it cheap enough to put in regular cars. Floating electromagnetic balls instead of wheels? I want to see a test drive by a Consumer Reports.
I want Obama to tell the big three to make them. Just scale up the size for the SUV owners.
Ok Nite folks
What happens when it hits a pot hole?
Good morning, pups. It’s Collins and Herbert today. Ms. Collins says it’s “Time For Him to Go.” She asks to see a show of hands: How many people want George W. Bush out and Barack Obama in right now? Apparently everyone on Wall Street’s hand just shot up… Mr. Herbert says “Help Is on the Way.” A new advertising campaign may help troubled veterans come in from the cold and piercingly lonely environment of post-wartime stress.

The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got waffles with honey butter and/or Vermont maple syrup. If you want to see the ad Mr. Herbert is talking about here’s a link to IAVA, the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, where it’s featured on their front page. I’m off to start my day of work and errands. Have a good one.
morning, Pups. It’s 18 degrees with a little bit of snow in Upstate NY this morning.
Oh, brrrrr! We’re chilly, at 31°.
Well, this IS Upstate NY, Marion – though I haven’t seen it be this chilly before Thanksgiving since I was a kid. I think Western NY has had 20 inches of snow already..but of course, it’s that (firedog)lake effect stuff.:)
Good Morning! It’s 19 here and I’m just north of Atlanta.
JPL – Sorry, but that is just…totally … unacceptable for you guys. Up here, we’re prepared for it and all..but Atlanta, GA area?
Some earlier links @ 206 and 225 for your edification. ;-)
25 on the Southeast Coast of NCarolina. High in the 40’s so they say. Nice crisp sunny blue sky, though.
This is about the mean temp for mid-Jan according to research prior to moving from Western MA.
Colder than I want it. Or planned for.
It’s ‘booger freezing cold’ here in Maine this morning.
I was just informed that snow level will be 200 meters this coming week. Looks like a España blanco to look forward to. ;-)
Woot!! I’ve never heard it called that, but I certainly do know what you mean by it.
200 meters WHERE? Worst I ever heard was from folks on Cape Breton Island, NS who told me that they get snows so high that the delivery guys stand on the cross trees of the telephone poles, so that is 20-25 feet.
ersatz edit: I know better than that really,
España blanca
it was the blancos de España working.
sorry, failure to communicate, 200 meter altitude above sea level.
Atlanta will have a few chilly days but not normally this early. Where’s Raven? The news is saying it’s 16 degrees in Athens. I imagine that his pups must love that.
Our local ski area, Greek Peak, is opening TODAY, with three trails open. Not that we have had that much snow but we have had some and it’s been really cold..cold enough to freeze the ground down and for them to make snow. I haven’t seen an opening this early since the mid-60s. If they can keep it open, then for people buying a season’s pass, they will get their money’s worth.
Hey, Everyone, Christy’s Upstairs!!!!!

MORE DOMINOS TEETER IN LINE in no particular order
Citigroup, Xmas Sales, Commercial Paper, State Budget Deficits, State Pension Funds, City/State Bonds, Commercial Real Estate defaults, Credit Card Defaults, Big 3 on top of the continuing credit crunch, subprime unwinding, and unprecedented (in most americans lifetimes) “economic uncertainty” equals a nation on the “precipice”
which makes me think that a relatively small “push” is all it would take to initiate a replication by the “United” States of the Soviet Union’s collapse and dismemberment. and such a “push” could easily be another terrorist attack in early 2009. (as Biden warned ? and arguably Obama’s proposed foreign and economic policy selections seem to anticipate ?)
