Last week I wrote:
Obama hasn’t even been sworn in and already we’re seeing the return of black helicopter-type delusions from the crowd that spent the 1990s obsessing about how ClintonGore’s thuggish gubmint storm troopers were going to take away their guns.
Charles Bogle said he fears a Democratic congress and president will work together to raise taxes on guns and ammunition. He said he thinks they will also place additional restrictions on gun ownership and tighten registration requirements.
“They will take them away from us,” Bogle said. “These people scare me to death.”
The paranoid gun crazies are officially back!
Just listen to their leaders:
[Wayne] LaPierre [EVP of the NRA], speaking to reporters at Chambliss’s Cobb County headquarters, said he thinks President-elect Barack Obama will “break his promise” to protect gun rights.
…
LaPierre was in town a few hours before former President Bill Clinton arrives in Atlanta to campaign for Martin.
“That’s the same Bill Clinton who for eight years tried to destroy our rights,” NRA executive director Chris Cox said.
So true. Lucky the NRA was there to thwart all those times Clinton tried in vain to amend the Constitution by executive fiat and ban guns.

argh.
Hey, I say, let them have all the guns they want, even fully automatic weapons, howitzers, RPGs. Just make sale and possession of ammunition w/o a federal license a felony. A win/win situation. The NRA members can pose all they want with dangerous arms (and dangerous tattoos upon them) and we get no dangerous projectiles in our direction.
That’s been happening all over michigan too. We’re a big hunting state but i’d think if the gun laws tightened it would be within reason. Not this bloody stupid flail and panic about having all guns taken away. I hate these stupid panic attacks brought on by the organizations with good reason to spin crap like this.
The nuts are sniffing their gun oil again.
If Saxby loses, the happy dance will never stop at my house.
The feeling is mutual.
Actually, I have two hunter friends, and they are both completely reasonable. Not sure how representative they are. The one I know best tells me a lot of hunters are going blue owing to Ds better protection of environment & wild areas.
Ohz Noz … first he’s gonna take away our Guns, then he’s gonna make us teh gay …
I’m sure Blackwater has painted all of their helicopters chartreuse.
Right, Bogle. You’re definitely the one who should be frightened, given that you are defenseless and meek.
Armed only with the Constitution…
IfWhen Saxby loses, the happy dance will never stop at my house.* … cleaned that up for ya … *
Most “real” hunters, i.e., those who learned how to do things correctly, also believe very strongly in the environment and conservation efforts. They see what happens when things go bad in the wilderness areas and are often able to track global climate change effects in their favorite hunting areas or by the lack of game.
The NRA is not representative of the hunters I’ve known.
Thanks and you’re right. My hopes are not high about this but still there.
So do you think the % of hunters who are gay is the same as the % of gays in the population? What about by gender?
Me neither. Which is why the “hunting photo-op” silliness never made sense to me.
Barack & The Dems know what’s riding on this and will throw all their weight behind Martin.
I agree. But both my friends are NRA members. Seemingly, the officers don’t represent the membership. Is that because no one but gun nuts run for the top slots, or is it just a time lag of bringing the responsible gun owners thru the pipeline?
Owning the biggest guns won’t always make you the winner..you need the biggest balls to use them effectively.
One of my coworkers (female by the way) is a bow hunter. I’m not sure about the actual numbers for gender. But i hadn’t realized until recently that she’s one of them. She’s one of our senior cashiers in my store. So i’d assume that female hunters are out there but i wish i had a better idea of the numbers.
Um … my concern has always been about Gay Moose ! *g*
How ya doin’, eCAHN ?
One doesn’t see to many (any?) female hunters around here.
Doing well. And you?
So you don’t want to nuke the pregnant gay moose?
If you go to Alberta & Saskatchewan, you’ll see 1/4 of hunters are female …
Paulson’s about to speak at Raygun Library.
In his speech (text released & summarized on cnbc) he propogandizes. Sez it’s naive to say that Lehman’s bankruptcy caused crisis. Gee, why would he feel defensive.
We could put all Pregnant Gay Mooses/Meese in Iran and Nuke ‘em all !
I’m doing well, thanks for asking … just got back from a short holiday.
Interesting. Any archery there, or just guns? I’d imagine the game is too big for archery.
An exciting holiday that you’d like to share, or just a restful or family one.
Wow, these folks are bettin’ the house on Georgia. Makes me think they’re expecting Coleman to lose the recount, making Saxby their last real hope to stop the Dems dreaded magic 60.
Just watch ‘em pull out all the stops and bring in Joe the plumber to campaign on Saxby’s behalf.
Oh no … lots of Bow Hunters hunting Deer and Elk. Of course, they usually go out with other Hunters who are armed with Guns, in case a Grizz crashes the party …
Moose are fairly large … don’t know anyone who hunts Moose with Bows …
Restful holiday after many, many years … with family and friends …
I’ll bet Dollars to Donuts that the organizers in Barack’s campaign are on the ground in Georgia and Saxby is toast !
It’s interesting. When Bush ordered the confiscation of guns in New Orleans, NRA didn’t blink (GOA had a fit, though). AFAIK, he’s the only president in my time on this planet that has done this. Dems and Liberals own guns too. How about a campaign t-shirt, “I’ll protect your second amendment if you stand up for my first”?
Good.
Jeebus, did Harry Reid grow a spine or is this his usual ploy of talking tough before caving like a dropped souffle ?
this kinda stuff is what happens when a full third of the population isn’t “reality based” .. imo ..
what has happened .. and is happening .. has no bearing on the “fear” of what “might happen” ..
i’m with the person who said “control the ammo” .. i’ve said that for years on end .. the constitution restricts the gov’t [imo] from doing much in the way of “guns” .. but outlawing some types of .. and controlling access to ..ammunition .. is the proper way to go .. there is nothing in the constitution concerning the “possession of powder.. shot.. and ball” ..

Bipartisan Proposal For Big 3 Restructuring
The owner of the most popular skinhead community website, http://www.skinheads.net actually uses “Nutter” as his screen name. Nutter is native of Atlanta, GA and gun ownership rights rights is his flagship issue. He writes regular threads in the site’s politics section about how Obama is poised to take away everyone’s guns when he takes office. This entry of his kind of lays out how he feels about his right to own as many guns as he sees fit:
Don’t think that would fly. The gun folks would argue that controlling ammo is a transparent attempt to limit their 2nd amendment rights.
Every since I got to know repsonsible hunters, I’ve had the hypothesis that guns are mostly a city problem. Therefore micro. I thus applauded Mayor Bloomberg’s attempt to negotiate with VA about NYCers buying guns in VA and bringing them back. (Think it’s an industry, not individuals.) However, VA spit in his face, so that ended that.
Apparently this tool never heard of, “The word is mightier than the sword!”
Oh… I dunno… It kinda makes sense, doncha think? I mean, Bush took away everything else so of course it’s only naturally they should… ahem… cling to their guns.
Saay ello to ma leyul fren
well i’m not a collector .. but i’ve inherited the last three generations of my family’s guns .. and i was raised up in north texas .. on a ranch farm .. where one was never farther away than the back rack of the pick-up truck ..[even when parked in the high-school parking lot ] .. we used to “reload” our own .30-.30 ammo and shotgun shells .. so i don’t see a problem with it .. if one is actually used to being around weapons .. the stricture on ammo would only affect the folk who can’t figure out how to do “reloaders” ..
depends on the cultural specific one has .. imo .. i own a bunch of various weapons .. but i haven’t taken one down ..or fired one in years .. with the exception of the occasional worry of a possibly rabid skunk or two .. i haven’t had a need to .. and most of us who have “borne arms” in the military .. have a completely different cultural specific than the “wannabes” ..
and as to the hysterics concerning the “gub’mint taking our guns” .. they’d have to “find ‘em” first .. there are many many weapons “out here” which have passed ..like mine .. from great-grand-dad .. to grandfather .. to father to son .. that no one knows about ..for which no registration information exists .. so that the task of “taking away the guns” would be an exercise in folly .. imo ..
am i worried about the “gub’mint taking my guns” .. naaawww.. i’m a reality based individual ..
I am not a hunter any longer I do not need the meat .but I want the best weapons to protect myself and what’s mine. I know many people are scared and their cowardice dooms us all. Study history! We are far safer with trained populace in all weapons and learning that we need the code of behavior the means that we teach wealth building and economics and weapons and the skills of living in today’s world. we need to understand that there are no panaceas but complete Global economic change. We have to get over our prejudice, ideologies, fears, the teachings of well meaning but wrong “leaders”. Having military weapons has not hurt the Swiss. (All Swiss Soldiers carry their military weapon home with them) In America we do need a educated populace and that means comprise. We must be more critical of what we are told about “popular political” band wagons. Like “green” living with out looking at the long term.
Some fanatics resort to terrorism rather that write and ask the hard questions. Today, we have the internet where the voice of the every person can be heard. I dislike organizations that spout rhetoric that hides a dark underside. Like PETA here is an organization that is so rabid that they have condoned terrorist acts (assault, property damage) rather that putting it’s resources into positive actions like research into cloning of skin, all skin from human to cattle to hippo all that could be cloned giving the world a new product and allowing the nations where animals heretofore were killed for fur or horn to have license to produce those “native” species as a way of giving jobs and national income. We should PAY those nations with huge forests that are being cut down for arable land NOT to CUT! Pay for what is really necessary!! I know that as we gain knowledge that to ask our governments to give tax credits for better land usage. Big tax credits for vegetables (for the farmer and the entire chain ) reason flatting foods are more filling and most vegetables are nearly as expensive as meat. See, there are many, items that can be constructive like boarding school and emotional maturity and growth. There is so much to be done to help us all. But, to leave people helpless to be massacred as in Rwanda, are unconscionable. We could have easily armed the victims but we let it happen. we send the UN soldiers who had rules of engagement that did not let them intervene unless they themselves were attacked. Anyone who has seen the movie BLACKHAWK DOWN,can see the reality of these failed policies.
The evil of this world is allowed to progress due to our doing nothing and having bad laws that are only enacted to to cater to our fears. But no one thinks of society as a whole and proceeds to be positive without being the bully. We can be armed to the teeth and compassionate. Fighting Fraud in All of it’s forms, defeating NIMBYISM’s housing the homeless before they become homeless. There are many ways of cheaply providing housing. We can allow otherwise zoning no’s to yes’s to get a society where every one works and we cheer on our neighbor when they gain possessions. After all was it the cooperation of our ancestors that helped build this nation?

Buy the best weapon. Learn to use it. And practice.
The gun nuts need to relax, no one is coming to take their guns away. I do, however, like Chris Rock’s idea: they should raise the price of bullets so that they’re $5000 each. Then you’d REALLY have to want to shoot something to do it.
Let ‘em keep their guns, just charge ‘em out the a$$ for the bullets.
