Attorney General Michael Mukasey collapsed Thursday night while giving a speech to the Federalist Society in Washington, according to three senior administration officials.

Details about Mukasey’s condition were not immediately available.

Audience members said they began praying, fearing a stroke.

(AP) _ Attorney General Michael Mukasey has collapsed during a speech and is being taken to a hospital.

Associate Attorney General Kevin O’Connor says Mukasey began shaking during a speech to the Federalist Society and collapsed. He did not immediately regain consciousness.

We can only speculate. Perhaps Mukasey was going to reveal the truth about 9-11, inside job. And how the United States financial meltdown is controlled by a cabal led by Henry Paulson and Goldman Sachs. The War in Afghanistan is being fought to prevent their high grade hashish from being used by hippies. All these secret neo-con policies are controlled by the Oil Companies and their Dirty Coal partners. They will allow no one to stop the burning of hydrocarbons and toxic pollution of the environment for the next fifty years.

Mukasey may be a victim of “Active Denial System”. The same person who discovered Saddam’s weapons of mass destruction revealed this killer directed beam weapon.

We can only speculate. But do not cry for me Mukasey because you have still been a one of the worst Attorney Generals.

My Methodist upbringing impels me to say that I hope he and his family do not suffer.

My not so Methodist ethics impel me to say that I hope that this adversity inspires some humility and Christian (real Christian) charity not only in Attorney General Mukasey’s family, but also in his friends (Alito et al) towards those who also suffer and are not favored by society. In otherwards I hope that they actually renew and revisit what Jesus actually said.

The reason I’m not very charitible in my feelings towards At. Gen. Mukasey is that I find him a classic case of the utterly hypocritical “Christian”. One who follows the rules, as he sees them, but with no mercy or charity for those who fall outside the “rules”.

Well I have something nice to say. I hope he recovers and has an epiphany after his discussion with his God…and reveals everything he knows. So, Judge Mukasey, please use the experience to fulfil your vows to protect the Constitution.

NYT says he did not regain consciousness: Attorney General Michael B. Mukasey collapsed during a speech Thursday night and was taken to the hospital after he failed to regain consciousness. There was no immediate word on his medical status.

News does differ. Fox 5 in DC (…forgive me…) says:

An FBI official said Mukasey got stuck on a word during his speech to the conservative legal group, repeated it several times and then “went down hard.”

A senior law-enforcement said Mukasey appeared to be talking when he was taken away. That official also spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the situation.

He was conscious during part of the ambulance ride to hospital, the official said.

Actually, if it makes a difference, he’s Orthodox Jewish.

Sure sounds like a stroke. I wish a full recovery and retirement.

“Upon his collapse, emergency first aid was rendered by the Attorney General’s security detail and a doctor who was on the scene.

“The Attorney General arrived at George Washington University Hospital shortly thereafter.

“The Attorney General is conscious, conversant and alert. His vital statistics are strong and he is in good spirits. He is receiving excellent care and appreciates all of the good wishes and prayers he has received. The doctors will keep him overnight for further observations.

“We will update the public when we have additional information.”

If he slurred his words but then was OK, he probably had a TIA, a transient ischemic event or reversible stroke. If he slurred his words and then lost consciousness, he could have had a stroke or a hemorrhage or both, a generalized seizure (likely originating in the temporal lobe (the word slurring) and then generalizing), or a heart attack. There are some other things that could conceivably mimic some of this but with the little reported these are the most likely and what would need to be ruled out.

Okay, all that well-wishing aside, what we have here is a basically decent, professional guy under tremendous pressure to obscure and deny every tenet (and I don’t mean George) he was taught to believe — and all to avoid displeasing a craven, sputtering political machine that suddenly elevated him to that level of responsibility.

I was thinking stroke and seizure too. Quick treatment for strokes is very important. He is lucky he was not at home alone, having it in public might help him recover quickly from a stroke.

The descriptions don’t prove he had a stroke or seizure.

If he fainted from a drop in blood pressure (blood pressure might drop due to heart disease, medications, dehydration, alcohol induced irregular heart rhythms), he could look like he’s having a stroke or seizure at first, but once on the ground he would recover fairly quickly.

Hard to tell which category he fits. First reports indicated he was not immediately awake. Later reports stated he was talking to emergency personnel and WSJ states he was awake and looking good in GW Univ Hospital.

Mukasey is an Orthodox Jew? Oy gevalt! Between him an Lieberman, they’re giving us such a bad name.

Many different types of seizure and if that;s what happened, it probably started at least a minute before it became apparent to others in the hall.

Having dealt with both of my parents post-stroke, I can guess the trauma that the Mukasey clan is dealing with. Even if it is “only a TIA”, it is very scary and to a good sign for the future. Believe me, having seen my mother have 2 TIA’s (at least, she is very good at hiding these and not telling her kids) prior to her first “real” stroke, all you can do is know that the next shoe is going to drop at some time.

I’ll swallow my bitterness regarding Guantanamo and other issues, It may be that this will be out of us mortals hands.
