Oh, Bill Kristol, he’s ever so busy, almost as much as his New York Times fact-checker. His contract is nearly up with the Times, will he stay?
"I’m ambivalent. It’s been fun. It’s a lot of work. I have a lot of things going on. But I haven’t really focused on it."
If it did not include the word "ambivalent", I’d swear this was a George Bush quote.
In other news, Rod Marinelli, coach of the equally successful Detroit Lions had the same response as to whether he’ll be back in 2009, even if his club has a record unblemished by success. Come to think of it, this quote might work for the entire Ford Family.

Where will the Times find someone to replace a man who can write that way? The prose practically bursts from the page. Or something.
Maybe the Lions and the Seahawks will trade coaches. Sometimes the illusion of progress is enough, particularly if you’re a football fan in one of those towns.
Speakin’ of Times columnists whatever happened ta Tom Wicker?
Good morning, Simon Jenkins at The Guardian writes a good perspective
http://www.guardian.co.uk/comm…..rown-obama
They already have another nut fuck at the times.
A report from BBC on stem cell progress being made
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/7735696.stm
Typical Socialist government do gooder crap, next thing you know they will be saving lives with stem cells and then where will we be.
If obama hires any more bloody clintonistas it will not only the errors of Iraq that will come back to haunt. Bmaz has a post over at Marcy’s place that details
somemany of obama’s more “in your face Progressives” moves and he is not even sitting in the oval office. I shake with horror about what he will do when he gets there.Looks like they just did.
Maybe someone will have to go back and re-write the bible again to account of such things, like they did to get your 6000 year old earth, and dinosaurs lurking outside home-caves and the like. If you believe, it will happen – not always.
but sometimes ((((katymine))))
I take it you are unaware that the pyramids are actually dinosaur nests.
You owe me a new keyboard.
Kristol could always apply for a position as a speech writer for Obama. In the new post partisan world all things are possible.
William Kristol will have plenty to do if he’s not at the times. Yeah, yeah, like forming a new PNAC to conspire another attack on America so he and his cronies to continue to profit!
Good morning, pups. It’s MoDo and Friedman today. MoDo, in “Two for the Price of Two,” says that if Hillary Clinton gets to be the Mistress of Foggy Bottom, Bill Clinton’s guilt over his primary tirades would be alleviated. The Moustache of Wisdom gives us “Madam Secretary?” He asks is Barack Obama considering Hillary Clinton for secretary of state in order to get her off his back or as a prelude to protecting her back?

The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and the Thomas’ English muffins are hot and crispy. I’m on my way out into the 28° (brrrrr) weather in a bit and I’m NOT looking forward to it! Have a great day.
Hmmmm love that hot choc in the morning (23 degrees here)
I do wonder if the vetting process for Mrs Bill includes a peek at the hidden “presidential papers”.
Attacks on the US have been officially banned now that Joe Likudman is still in his cosy chair.
Reid is up for reelection in 2010. Time to begin planning for his retirement from office. It will give him the opportunity of traveling to Spain where he can have a stem cell testicle transplant.
Are you sure? Joe LIEberman and Susan Collins are fine with attacks on our nation, as long as the attack originates from or is allowed to happen by right wingers. And when it happens, they will do zero oversight to protect the right wingers involved. Oh, but if Barack Obama pays for his own toothpaste, they’ll subpoena him on wasteful spending and have him impeached in no time flat!!!
Looking forward to the subpeona’s flying out of Fatherland Security committee. Will be interesting to see how Obama uses his post partisan skills to thwart Lieberman once again.
If he puts her there she may never get a run at the oval office. Biden my be replaced in term 2 or more like Obi will see a reversal of fortunes as he is blamed for the great depression. A military coup in the USA? Why not? The political parties are letting the country go to hell in a hand basket and the MIC might see their spigot shut off as a desperate move to cut spending. They won’t like that so they may decide to run things. That’s banana republic territory… but heck why not? And I don’t see them sucking up to Hill as CIC… do you?
I agree… progressives need to get out all the dead wood.
This is why I am for term limits. Too many creeps hold on to too much power for too long. Until the election system is cleaned up… the interim solution is to limit the terms of elected officials.
Look what Bloomberg and Quinn did. Bloomy said he was a brilliant financial whiz and NYC just had to have his whizdom. So despite the fact that he is a billionaire and could have offered to work for free as a consultant to the next mayor he used his power to try to extend his hold on the office. Same with quin who is out as City Council pres. Pols don’t want to let go and most end up stuffing their bank accounts as opposed to doing the people’s work.
Opposed to term limits but do support public financing of federal elections. That will even the playing field. Terms limits have been tried in Michigan and both Republicans and Democrats see it as a complete disaster.
What is bad about term limits? Can you elaborate?
Citizen Bluetoe 2:
I don’t think public financin’ will work unless we ken get campaigns down ta 6 months or less like Great Britian…and I’m not certain that as long as we have an active and free internet that Obama’s model of “public financing” won’t be the best we can hope for in the short run.
Martin Feldstein on cnbc thinks auto corps outta go bankrupt. Get union wages down to wages in rest of economy.
Yessirreee, rush to the bottom for workers.
There are already term limits. 6 years for the Senate, 2 years for the House and 4 years for the Commander in Chief.
Citizen eCAHNomics:
The whole idea of term limits was a gimmick that the fascists pushed ‘cuz it didn’t look like they would ever be able ta swing a majority in all three branches unless they could get the entrenched vote mongers and money collectors out of the field. My opposition to term limits is that like any profession you only get good at yer craft after 5-10 years and the most productive time is from 10 years to 20 years. It takes at least 3 terms for a Congressperson ta even have a clue how ta negotiate the system. The cost of campaigns is the problem NOT the length of tenure…don’t cut off yer leg because you have a sore toe.
Mornin’ all!
Steep learning curve and institutional memory. By the time a legistlator has an understanding of the in and outs of making the system work their term is over and consequently the overall the effectiveness of the legislature is diminished.
Still gnawing that old bone are we? Still wanting to lobotomize institutional memory? Think Tip O’Neill would have something to say to the contrary. Leave a complex organization in the hands of sophomores? Even with experienced hands on the wheel, the Titanic sank. Please save us from having to repeat these facts again, but you are welcome to your opinion if it is expressed as opinion.
That is exactly how term limits where pushed in MI by Republicans. Today even Republicans in MI admit that it has been a failed experiment.
I don’t think that term limits are necessarily the bugaboo here. I think it is more important to have quality people serving. If you have poor candidates term limits are important, yet good people need time to get things done. Unfornately, human beings are what they are. Few are capable of empathy and compassion; many are capable of greed and self agrandizement. Very sad state of affairs….
Bang on, the answer is here in front all along.
The lenght of elections in the States is far too long. Western European nations have the right idea about elections occuring in a far shorter period but then far be it from Americans to learn anything from the godless and socialists of Europe.
The problem is awakening and educating the dullards who keep putting the folks in office, more intelligence!
Morning Swim is up…
Per SanderO @ 20, removing the dead wood is imperative. Two ways to do that. One tree at a time or a forest fire. Anyone got a match?
@34. When the media begins to do it’s job you’ll be amazed at the intelligence of the American public.
Term limits as a transition solution only until elections can be cleaned up and the field leveled.
Norske I beg to differ. There is a learning curve to the mechanics of any job. But this is not years and should only be months at most for an intelligent person.
The fact is that the power of enciombancy is more dangerous that having to replace good people when their term expires. Chiefs of staff can run for a term and they certainly know the mechanics.
Also there is plenty of talent out there and if critters know there is no second term they won’t be spending time IN office RUNNING for the next term. That is NOT part of the job description.
Some good folks would have to move on or run for another office if they wished to stay and serve the people. So be it. This does not help fascists entrench power, it actually prevents it.
What say you?
