Gonzales and Cheney have been indicted by a grand jury. The indictment is related to prisoner abuse at Wallace County Federal detention centers, which are run by Vanguard Group. Cheney has an investment in Vanguard and is charged with conflict of interest and "misdemeanor assault" on detainees through the company, while Gonzales is charged with using his office to quash an investigation. (h/t Perris)
Get out the popcorn, this could be interesting.
And maybe it will shine a light on the privatization of the prison system in the US, which has led to even greater abuses of prisoners than before.

Crush their balls then let them go.
Hey, Ian, perris and I have already covered this in posts over at Oxdown Gazette. Didn’t you get the (Talking Points) Memo?
Bob in HI
These people who were in on Pat TIllman’s treatment deserve anything they get.
ah, but talking points memo pours a little water on this fire;
I hope this is just the beginning!
There’s plenty more to go!
Holy Cow!! This really ISN’T snark, is it!
this time you beat me to it and I owe you a drink in return
we will be buying each other drinks, I am having cognac, “louis” will be fine
my 7 is for your 2
And h/t to RevDeb @ comment 30.
But maybe not the comeuppance we thought it was?
his balls under a rock, hand him a knife to cut his own balls off
In the spirit of bipartinsanship is their anything the Democratic congress can do to spare Abu and Cheeeny the embarassment of it all?
bob, take a look at the video ian has posted, this is better then talking points memo would lead us to believe, it’s covered very nicely on that local news station
could be lots of fun if it gets national coverage even if the da has been a little on the nutzo side
Balls nailed to table ,knife in hand!
I’m sure lieberman will propose something along those lines
Let’s hope so. This rogue prosecutor could sabotage Obama’s post partisan plans for the country. Abu may still be on his short list for a cabinet position.
This is Great:)
you’re killing me bluetoe
Let’s see. According to the time stamps, my diary on Oxdown is dated 3:29 PM, perris’s is dated 3:30 PM, and RevDeb’s comment is dated 3:17, so RevDeb scooped both of us. Looks like we owe RevDeb.
Shows to go how eager we are for this kind of news!
Bob in HI
It’s important that we follow the lead of the “Decider” oops, I mean Obama. This bipartisan post partisan world is the only thing that can save the Republic from the criminals in the Republican party. If they are held accountable for their criminal and treasonous actions, well their go the chances of a rousing chorus of Kumbaya.
Hey, it’s all good!
absolutely!
Jus Cogens!
Thanks. I’ve updated my diary over at Oxdown to include references to RevDeb’s comment, which came before the diaries perris and I originally wrote, as well as to Ian’s diary here and a link to his video indicating that this story has enough teeth to pull two judges off their benches for the time being. But the indictments have still not yet been released, so we cannot yet see exactly what Cheney has been charged with– yet. It won’t be long, however, before we know. And LHP has promised to look into the charges and give us her appraisal…

Thanks Ian.
digg
i think you need to complete the digg.
I wish they had waited until after Bush was out of office, because there will just be pardons all around… :(
I hope I’m wrong.
These are STATE charges, not Federal. IIRC, Bush can only pardon for Federal offenses.
Bob in HI
If that is the case…Outstanding!
I think you have to be found guilty to get a pardon. No way that will happen before January.
Except that Ford pardoned Nixon’s offenses before he could be found guilty. That kind of prospective pardon has not been tested in court, however.

and so on.
Damn. I wish I coulda sat on that grand jury. Lot more than ham sandwiches on their docket.
This just in from local Texas Channel 5 update says that
The article adds,
If this is a reference to the indictment itself, it is the first notice that the indictment has been released to the public.
