We've been saying for years that his Senate cronies are abdicating their responsibilty by thumbing their noses at people who want someone to head the Homeland Security Committee who will do their job and exert oversight, rather than impede it to protect crooks.
Looks like the people of Connecticut agree:
If Joe Lieberman loses his committee chairmanship at Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs and switches his allegiance to the Republican Party would you that make you more likely reelect Lieberman more likely to consider voting for another candidate or more likely to vote to replace Lieberman?
Reelect 31
Consider Someone Else 15
Replace 52* Research 2000 for Daily Kos. 11/11-13. Likely voters. MoE 4% (6/30-7/2 results)
Lieberman's only constituency are his pals in that exclusive club, the US Senate.

Good Morning, Jane!
Lieberman’ carreer is over! He may have 4 more years of lame-duck satus in Senate, but then he’s done. I’m sure neocons will have a plush job waiting for him at one of their
frontsthink tanks.I have signed, I have called everyone on the committee, even gave Bayh’s office my .02 on his Maddow bs
this is so very disheartening
I hate to say “You told them so,” but, firedoglakers, you did. Connecticut voters didn’t listen. They could have had Ned Lamont, who would have had President Obama’s ear and done the right thing on so many fronts. Instead Joe, whom Democrats honored by nominating him for veep only eight years ago, showed his (in)gratitude by endorsing McCain and other GOP candidates. Will the Dems let him retain a chairmanship? Does he deserve one?
here’s another option.. leave him @ hs and then offer him the amb to israel. make it public and watch him squirm. how could he turn it down?
but jane and ctbob are on it. that’s good news.
I’m just wondering what the gameplan looks like. Joe’s allowed to stay in the Chair and the Caucus, what does that buy the Dems. Not loyalty. Is there something else Obama has on slowride?
Or he’s bounced out of the Chair and the Caucus and then what? Becomes a Republic and a thorn in the side of the Dems for at least two more years?
My point is we still have to put up with him for at least two more years…how can Obama make use of this idiot?
this is a great post, I think obama is doesn’t know lieberman has no chance of re-election, someone should get that info to him pronto
though the senate is supposed to act unilaterally from the president they are goint to go out of their way making him comfortable while he takes office
it is going to be really hard for them to go against his wishes, there has to be a honeymoon at least from the democrats if barack is to enjoy any success in the first 100 days
I therefor suggest someone from the senate remind barack he will get far less done with lieberman at the helm, epsecially since liberman cannot win re-election in two years
I like the way you think…
dems did. it was republicans who elected lieberman.
that would be great if obama was inclined to remove liberman from this seat, which he clearly is not

Hey Jane, I saw your reply previous thread about the Kiss float. Did you get in touch with its owner about it yet?
By keeping Lieberman in as HSC chair, the Steering Committee will damage the Democratic party worse than any Republican can. 2010 will bring the end of our short-lived majority.
Better to lose Joe now and let the GOPers have their filibuster; they’ll be seen as the obstructionists they are, and then we’ll win a clean super-majority in 2010.
Or Iraq…then watch him really squirm. ;-)
hi Jane…my unc lives in Con.he doesnt like slippery Joe
i see public statments and rumors to be less than reliable in this regard. can’t prove it though.
by the by…Rachels comment on Lieberputz(yes i coined the term) was stellar
Kos has a thread upon this too. Apparently Lie-berman isn’t the only CT senator with embittered voter issues.
The Entitled Incumbent Aristocracy may need a major housecleaning on both side of the aisle that only began in 2006 and has at least two or three more cycles to run.
Liarman is a loose nuke…he cant be controlled, for he will go where the biggest check is transferred into his offshore account…period…end of story
yes. keep thinking about how far out in front Jane has been on this, recall her pointing out the necessity of removing this abscess in mid-05.
sorry to whine, and I know it aint about me - but this is really getting to me. maybe because it involves Team Obama, but considering the tankers full of cynicism and evil this group has floated, don’t know why this particular failure is getting to me so
takin’ a walk
What Rachel said.
i would prefer to cut him off at the knees but that may not be politically possible right now. wish i was in the halls. i could tell ya. who do we have in the senate from fdl? anyone?

YOU GOT IT in a nutshell…..very good claps hands vigoursly
I’m shocked that CT does not like Lieberman. /s
Obama has shown his political savvy in this election by running a stellar campaign. He’s also a product of the Chicago machine. I think he’s quite aware of the politics. Not that I agree with all of his policies, but I think he has remarkable political skills.
simple english…short ride, can not be trusted for a single nano second,or NY MINUTE
every time i think of lieberman in the senate causing more trouble, i regret not spending more time in CT canvassing.
Have to agree.
Goodbye Joe, “HE” gotta go, me oh my oh……
Obama needs to take a powerful medicine called the Palin Pill. You take one and you bite your mentor in the ass. Side effects may vary.
Lieberman doesn’t come up for reelection until 2012.
Standing up and clapping here, whistling.
GAHHHH!
The man makes me want to scream!
Thanks Jane.
And thank you for making this a huge campaign with all the tools at your disposal!
Several of Obama’s “considered choices” have me rattled, none so badly as this nonsense re Lieman.
It’d be a great day if they’d remove him far enough to the back of the bus where we’d never have to ever see his sniveling back stabbing nasty pasty face again on the toobz or anywhere else!
I keep coming back to the question, “What would it take?????!” to get someone kicked out of the caucus and stripped of anything of importance?
If this ain’t it, i just cannot know what would be.
headed out for the day. be good to one another
gee but constituents in CA-50 must be bursting with pride …
well, we could catch him in a restroom somewhere or find his name on an escort call list. or?
See, if Lieberman were a R, a way would be found.
not. bilbray is an embarrassment.
yep, we are WAY to soft for this nasty business.
I no longer say the Ds are too dumb to live because some here find that offensive.
we are at a disadvantage because we just don’t drink blood. hard to make up the difference in any meaningful way.
Jane should run that pic again of his rental property.
He’s a slum lord to the nth degree.
not that that’s “illegal” or anything, but that’s all i have ever heard of him and his private life. I think he’s too ambitious, too drooling for the White House to do anything “bustable”.
Despicable slime!
Is there a Senator in all of the Senate who is less popular with their constituents than Lieberman? Is he rated number 100 out of 100?
i didn’t know he was a slum lord. make sense though.
re: kucinich hearing. one thing that really pisses me off is that kashkari says he’s only working on the bail out. but what he doesn’t say is that he found time to attend and annual conference at wharton’s b school and give the keynote address.
Oh I don’t think that you need to be at all uncivil wrt Lieberman. Just take his HLS chair away. Seems completely within the bounds of civility, reason, justice and the D way.
The Kucinich hearings are finishing up. Issa is asking why the government couldn’t have leveraged say $50 billion from the TARP buying mortgages up at today’s values, packaging them up, and selling them off.
Kash: That what our Hope for Homeowners program is about.
But isn’t doing, obviously.
hope others see it that way. i think they do just not public right now.
kucinich hearing -
cummings: is kashkari a chump?
Issa asks why Freddie and Fannie weren’t backed by the government so that they could refinance at T bill rates rather than higher ones.
Kash: We wanted them to borrow from the private sector in the future so we did not back them with full faith of federal government.
(I think I got that right)
Lisa Derrick’s up with a new post: El Coyote: Anger, Tears–and Maybe Hope?
You know, these incumbents need to talk about this in parenting terms. When I ask my kids what they think the punishment should be if their sister pulled this crap, but realizing that the punishment will be applied to them, they come up with a pretty reasonable solution.
Ask Joe what he thinks ought to happen if, say, Feinstein or Durbin or X had pulled the crap he did.
re: HOPE program. from notes on wednesday hearing.
You know there’s only one reason why were still tied up with this problem: Obama. Without him, Joe would be toast.
that’s what i heard too. also, that there was something about a jan 2009 deadline?
cummings: we can’t afford to be chumps. i hope you are never the same after this hearing.
Cummings bringing up bonuses, $500 million at AIG. Points out that it is an employer’s market and there is no reason to use it to keep current AIG employees.
I’ve used this argument too. And that bonuses reward precisely the doofusses who created the mess.
Cummings you know Paulson is going to come back for the rest of the $700 billion.
Cummings hopes Kash will be changed by this hearing. I doubt it. In fact, if Kash weren’t a third rate hack Paulson never would have employed at Goldman or Treasury.
kucinich: no one questions that you are working hard. our question is who are you working for?
Luck Fieberman!
digg
Kucinich to Kash: No one would question that you are working hard. The question is for whom?
Ouch!
Now setting up for second panel.
I agree completely. Harry, Chris, Evan, Hillary, and all the rest would have done the right thing. /s
That’s a really good idea, but Jane doesn’t have to do it.
If we can get a copy, we can start sending it to our Senators and local media outlets.
Yes, we assume effort.
We want RESULTS!
kucinich hearing, panel 2:
don’t expect the fireworks we heard this morning…?
new thread from jane: Obama Shunning Lieberman.
multiple lieberman posts from jane. ah, reminds me of the good old days of 2006.
