Oh Blackwater, is there nothing you cannot make worse?
The State Department is preparing to slap a multi-million dollar fine on private military contractor Blackwater USA for shipping hundreds of automatic weapons to Iraq without the necessary permits.
Some of the weapons are believed to have ended up on the country’s black market…
Oh well, at least they’ll always have jobs around Crawford…and maybe Paraguay.

Wow, no zed in 1 hour and 15 minutes.
It will be interesting to see what happens with BW once Obama takes over.
Business as usual.
Possibly, I fear. I think there are significant numbers of DoS employees who hold BW in very low regard. The future of BW will be one of many Obama policy bellwethers. It’s certainly something to keep an eye on. Hope you’re wrong.
From the McClatchy article:
Compliance challenges. Right. I fully expect we’ll have murderers seeking clemency because of “compliance challenges” in the near future.
With Obama waving the white flag of surrender to Joe Lieberman in the “spirit of bipartisanship” we are beginning to see the makings of an administration that will ignore crimes against the Constitution and the American people. Blackwater? Propably one of the few viable companies in the U.S. today. Have to protect and encourage those companies that are making a profit in these troubled times.
They have to protect the Praetorian Guard, eh? I’m willing to wait a little while to see how things play out, but I certainly plan to be watching very carefully.
Light turn out this a.m..
For sure. The Firedogs are taking an post-election breather I guess. I’m outta here myself. Will check back later to see what’s happening at the Lake.
Why do some at StateDept have that opinion? Demeanor of BW guards? Actual bad incidents?
Blackwater is a great career move if you’re a serial killer. Good pay and all the humans you can hunt. The black and red logo is also pretty neat and looks nice with the jackboots.
Good morning, pups. It’s Collins and Kristof today. Ms. Collins says “The Election Lives!” She reminds us that the U.S. Senate race in Minnesota is up in the air. You may want to consider becoming totally obsessed with it. That’s certainly worth obsessing about, but don’t forget Alaska where, as of last night, Mr. Begich leads by 814 votes. And please allow me to remind everyone that down here in Georgia on December 2 we’re going to try to grease the skids under the odious Saxby Chambliss. Mr. Kristof addresses “Obama and Our Schools.” He says President-elect Barack Obama ranked education fifth among his priorities, and if it is being downplayed, that’s a mistake.

The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and there are Thomas’ English muffins, all hot and crispy. I’m running late this morning. Have a great day. [scoots off to take a shower and get ready for work]
MN looks possible, AK looks good (keeping all digits crossed there so Palin doesn’t get a run at senate), but GA is a very long shot, n’est pas?
this is the same thing as sayin “some water is believed to be wet”
I sure hope barack can put these brownshirts out of business and confiscate their weapons
Surprised BW doesn’t have an elephant in the logo. Would make great arm bands.
Did everyone except me catch that the “Palin-Africa” thing was a hoax? Luckily a friend emailed me the link.
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11…..ref=slogin
I thought the U.S. military was the biggest supplier of weapons to the enemy, in the hundreds of thousands. I’ll bet BW is just pikers compared to that.
Yeah, Georgia is a long shot. Don’t know why Obama couldn’t campaign for Martin. Tell the people of Georgia he needs him in the Senate to move the U.S. forward. The crowds would be enormous but then in the spirit of bipartisanship perhaps Obama is just fine with another Republicon serving in the Senate. After all he’s just fine with Lieberman.
I got caught in a new york times hoax, it didn’t stay up long but to the effect that rice admitted they new there were no wmds
too good to be true and it was taken right down without even a google cache
ya, I am hoping barack does something about that as well
the military industrial complex, we can’t say we weren’t warned a long time ago
oops, my 21 was for your 17
A post-party world? Doesn’t matter any more if you’re a R or a D? Gosh, could have fooled me. Why bother with elections? Let’s do swim suits, evening attire, talent. At least we could get rid of Lieberman that way. /s
you know, palin never denied the story
I am betting him claiming authorship is the real hoax in order to take heat off of palin
It worked.
Did you see my response to your comment in an earlier thread yesterday about punishing people for “speech.” (Might have gotten epu’d.) My point was that your examples, unlike Prop 8 & my example, did not deprive anyone of civil rights.
I believe his post was snark;
I’ve heard a clip of her in her media tour claiming it was all bunk. She wasn’t very convincing (as is true of everything that comes out of her mouth), to be sure, but she did deny it.
I’ve got an early meeting so have to get ready to roll. Will be in & out until 7:45.
I saw your answer and responded, taking away the kkk’s right to free speech does deprive them of rights
if someone were to contribute to a legal campaign to take away their rights to free speech I do not think that person should loose their job
once it is a lawful legal action, which prop 8 was, then contributing to that action cannot result in management pressuring you to quit
I have no problem if the workers pressure you to quit by dis-associating with you and other legal actions that result from social intercourse
but management cannot fire you for legal activity or contributions outside of the workplace
anyway, that’s another thread and a long time ago
Thanks for the post, Attaturk. I had not heard about this.
Good morning all. Hopefully President-elect Obama will indeed move toward a government that pays a bit more attention to the Constitution. It sure appears, right now anyway, that will be the case.
As for that
waywardrecalcitrantasshole Senator, perhaps it is actually a case of keeping your friends close and your enemies closer. It is a long shot, but it may be possible. Saxby got a lower percentage of the vote than McCain and the Dems may be more motivated to actually turn up and vote. It’s not so much that I’m optimistic, but I’m not totally depressed and ready to throw in the towel yet either. “Cautiously undepressed” might describe it best!
Oh, thanks… Now I have to head off to work with the image of Toad Lieberman in a swimsuit… Brain bleach! I need brain bleach!
Thanks. I didn’t check back to see if you replied.
I hadn’t read that, either. Wow, those guys were busy. I also had heard the “Joe the plumber is related to Keating” but not the debunking of it.
Good Morning! As today’s press availability will Sarah disappear for awhile. I am so looking forward to a Sarah free day.
Whoops.. After today’s press availability
Can we reve up volunteers for Martin? I received an email from a foreign student now at school in Atlanta asking how he/she could participate. In the BlueState we found plenty of work for foreign students and the even greater boundless energy that came from the sense of privilege they felt in fighting for a better world. They did not phonebank (accents raise problems) but did do visibility and that all important data entry.
So Marion in Savannah do you have any suggestion for Europerson in Atlanta?
And please pass the muffins. What jams do we have today?
Buenos dias,
Palinista will be addressing the Republican Governors’ conference this morning.
you can watch it at 10 on CSPAN 2
and here’s what’s on Washington Journal this morning:
7:30am – David Frum, American Enterprise Institute, Resident Fellow
8:10am – Greg Morcroft, Marketwatch.com, Financial Editor
8:50am – Jonathan Mahler, New York Times Magazine, Contributing Writer — Article
I know “progress” is a noun. e.g. Obama has made great progress in repairing Amerrica’s standing around the world.
I think also an intransitive verb. e.g. Obama’s efforts to retore America’s standing around the aorls have prgressed nicely.
I’ver never heard it take an object though. Can “progress” be used as a transitive verb also?
Palin: It would be my honor to assist and support our new president and the new administration, yes. And I speak for other Republicans, other Republican governors also, they being willing also to, again, seize this opportunity that we have to progress this nation together, a united front.
somehow I doubt it.
*sigh*
then give him a cabinet position, take him off any over site committee, especially those that can put a monkey wrench investigating the privious administratioon
she has opened the word folder in her head, accessed the catagory grouping and then just uploaded all those words to her speaker hardware
pay no mind, she needs a bios flash
Don’t know about that. I read someplace that the FOX reporter (Cameron?) said this bogus guy was not his source. And if he double sourced it…… tell you though, I’ve never really defended Palin (except saying that obsessing about her pregnancies was stupid) but i honestly can’t believe that she thought Africa was a country.
I had no idea either! that the guy was a complete fake.
that impacts me the wrong way too *g*
That’s what I thought. same old same old from a cretin. she really needs to shut up. then again, we’re elitists of course and most americans probably don’t even notice how badly she abuses the language.
I don’t think I came across the fake guy but his stories sure did circulate.
hat has driven me nuts for a long, long time now. If I ever used “impact” as a verb, a nun would have made me write “impact is not a verb” 5,000 times. i think it’s become accepted by now. shame.
she has a newly discovered psychosis now known as “Palinopathy”,when a person is demonstrating this ailment they are “palinopathetic
then give him a cabinet position, take him off any over site committee, especially those that can put a monkey wrench investigating the privious administratioon
Said nothing about a Committee Chair. A Cabinet position? I favor a different role for him surely but I was thinking more along the lines of a janitors closet position, not a cabinet position.
Marion might have other ideas but if anyone is interested they should visit Martin’s web site. McCain is coming today to do a photo op with Saxby in Cobb County today. The local news did a poll and the overwhelming respondents felt that McCain’s visit would not help. (15% for his visit helpful). Advance voting will be Thanksgiving week and the runoff date is December 2. Turnout will be key.
this is what I thought, I believe the “hoax” was a double hoax intended to make the story look fake.
not a bad idea I must congratulate the strategist for that tactic
she said that too!!!! a nd she used “progress” as a transitive verb, like, 3 times. More from her interview with the Wolfman:
PALIN: It was a collaborative effort there in deciding how do we start bringing up some of the associations that perhaps would be impacting on an administration, on the future of America. But again, though, Wolf, knowing that it really — at this point, I don’t want to point fingers backwards and play the blame game, certainly, on anything that took place in terms of strategy or messaging in the campaign.
Now is the time to move forward together, start progressing America.
lol I did not hear the comment but I guess Andrea Mitchell said that Sarah is doing her victory tour.
Martin Volunteer site
that last sentence belongs with the Palin quote
A few million in fines…devastating. After dodging capital felony counts, treason, piracy, sedition and obstruction Prince must be laughing up his sleeve at this parking ticket. Just the cost of doing business. Right Eric?
Tim at Balloon Juice put Sarah’s words in verse. Although the post was humorous, I still did not understand what her point was.
Morning. I’ll be here for the next 18minutes. Seems I need to read Scahill’s book (which has been on my nightstand for months).
Morning. Is Paul Broun your rep? He makes Price seem reasonable. There should be a law against medical folks running for office.
just the cost of doing business.
Huffington Post has been told on background that Martin Eisenstadt was not one of Fox News correspondent Carl Cameron’s sources.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/…..42785.html
lol
Sure is, he’s getting killed in the Athens paper but the goobers love it.
Speaking of Palin.
Rethugs actually think this woman is the saviour of their party. This is just too much:
Go for it, geniuses.
and here’s what’s on Washington Journal this morning:
7:30am – David Frum, American Enterprise Institute, Resident Fellow
thanks Elliott – just makes my morning coffee taste that much better, knowing that Frum is on the teevee and I am *not* watching…
heh.
I also wondered about that part of the Blitzer interview where Palin said she “speaks for all Republicans.” Really? She’s out of control.
This is really a stretch but Palin has always reminded me of Diane Downs (the woman who shot her children, played by Farah Fawcett). Not the homicidal part, but the verbal diarrhea and the way she goes about wily-nily. And when it was said that she trusts no one, it was reinforced. Narcisstic personality disorder. And those that rely on her crash and burn.
bingo, they created the “it was me and it’s a hoax” hoax to discredit the legitimate story.
the reason the eisenstadt story didn’t pass the smell test is that fox would have been all over it, they really want palin to look good
I have the entire physosis explained here
I can only believe they actually think her palinopathy is an asset
Yeah, I never paid much attention to that, but have witnessed enough nonesensical evasions and ignorance from her that I didn’t need any additional evidence to be horrified that anyone would seriously consider placing her in a position of responsibility over the lives and welfare of anyone other than her own family. I’ve been waiting to find out that her whole vice presidential candidacy was a hoax.
I beleive the neo-cons think she will be an even easier mariontte to manipulate then bush
He’s trying to redeem himself by critiquing McCain, it seems to me.
looks like BT’s up
Ding.
they do like their puppets,
Dan Quayle, George Bush, for ex.
Dong
yeah, i never thought of it that way. maybe her whole candidacy was a hoax only nobody let her in on it.
don’t forget Ronald Reagan when they figured out he had Alzheimer’s
bush was actually the president for the second half of Reagan’s last term
mmy 79 was for your 76
I think they’re mistaken. No loyalty, no self-awareness and a firm belief that she knows best.
Her answers remind me of my daughter and her friends when they were about thriteen years old. They would ask me if they could do something and I would say they couldn’t. They would then assault me with a tirade 0f nonsequitors so that I couldn’t remember the original question. Finally, pretty much anything they wanted to do was okay with me, if they would just be quiet.
I believe you are right about her, I also believe the neo-cons think otherwise.
also, I have a little to add to your assesment
I think it’s her husband who governs palin, he has her strings..actually I am certain of it judging by what he did in her name
so the neo-cons might think they can control her husband if not her.
anyway, I agree with you, once she gets that power she is gonna be on her own
Thanks. have informed my foreign student.
thanks. sent.
