Nice to see Saxby Chambliss honoring Atwater’s legacy.
"There was a high percentage of minority vote," Chambliss told Alan Colmes, "but we weren’t able to get enough of our folks out on election day."
"Our folks."
And this isn’t the first time Chambliss has played the Atwater card this campaign seasn.
During the fall Senate campaign, Chambliss cautioned his followers that "the other folks" are voting. The senator added that the "rush to the polls by African-Americans" has "got our side energized early, they see what is happening."
Meanwhile, it looks like Katherine Harris Karen Handel, the Georgia Secretary of State, may have improperly purged 50,000 voters (more here).
Let’s give Saxby the ax. Support Jim Martin’s campaign.

About Firedoglake
The Minneapolis Star Tribune, which endorsed Norm Coleman, just posted an astonishingly irresponsible editorial for tomorrow’s print edition.
http://www.startribune.com/opinion/34337849.html
It repeats verbatim the unsubstantiated Coleman campaign talking points about the changes in the final certified vote numbers. And, stupidly, it ignores the fact that the certified vote numbers are irrelevant since Minnesota law demands a recount based on the narrow difference in the vote counts.
It’s one of the most astonishingly bad editorials I’ve ever seen from the Strib.
Support Jim Martin: do it for Max Cleland. How he was treated by Chambliss is beyond shameful.
Yowza!
Here’s the link to FDL’s movie night on Boogieman, btw.
Chambliss is the lowest of the low. With voters across the country rejecting negative politics, how did Georgians come so close to reelecting him?
“they see what’s happening.”
uh…. democracy?
Thanks BT.
digg
The voters who came out and voted (r) are mostly authoritarian followers. Their worldview demands that they totally believe what their leaders tell them no matter how untrue. Authoritarians are mostly white, undereducated, very conservative, fixed thinkers, very religious(evangelical, born again xristians)rigid. They are mostly unable to form any thoughts for themselves but depend on their “leaders” to do their thinking for them.
does anyone know for sure if Sarah Palin is stopping off in Georgia to campaign for Chambliss, after attending the Governors’ Conference in Florida? I’ve read that “she might,” but no confirmation, and her people don’t return my calls for some reason…
When bad thing happen they are usually done by bad people.
NiceHow sad for our country to see Saxby Chambliss honoring Atwater’s legacy.Hope you don’t mind the edit.
Besides the economic turn that influenced the voters — sorry it had to be their wallets that mattered — I really do think people have had enough of the negative. Not saying you snark lovers should stop. Not saying that at all.
Just was in an editing mood.
They’re a dying breed though. There’s enough still around to cause us headaches, but the future’s so bright…well, you know the rest:

That sounds like a title for a terrific Oxdown Diary.
Nixonland
Reports indicate Palin will not go to GA.
I really wish “that one” would go to Georgia to fire up the “other folks”, so Saxby can just quietly disappear with his folks.
LOL.
Is GA not part of the real america
Breaking footage of a Chambliss rally underway now. (Yes, I know it’s the Florida state song, but the river has its headwaters in Georgia, so there.)
Resisted barely the temptation to make numerous jokes about William Tecumseh Sherman.Bill Clinton better get his butt down to the Peach State to help Martin.
What with those Russians she can see from her house, she is as Commander in Chief of the state National Guard keeping a close eye on them and making sure they don’t invade Alaska the way they did Georgia.
New post The brilliance of Larry Summers. Gee that outta be a short one.

Reprehensible, indeed!
Or maybe not enough blacks voted. Probably not because they did not want to vote but because the republican secy. of state did not let them vote.
And remember folks, this is the honorable “gentleman” who defeated Max Cleland (who lost three of his limbs fighting in Viet Nam) and questioned his patriotism.
What an execrable piece of work, though – at least he’s consistent eh?
Blue Texan, you are a complete jack-off and hack for your ridiculous reporting or blogging or whatever the hell you want to call this crap. I’m a liberal and would say I support Democrats a majority of the time. I am almost certainly not a Chambliss supporter. That said, if you are going to write garbage about him being a racist, please don’t provide as your proof, a video clip that only succeeds in proving that you took his words out of context and then tried to misrepresent their meaning. First of all he praised the Obama camp for getting their supporters out to vote early. I presume by Obama supporters, he meant Democrats, or anybody else who was inclined to vote for the Democratic ticket this year. I didn’t hear him mention anything racist. Yes he said a lot of minorities voted. Then right after that he said how proud he was that so many people voted in this election. Where’s the racism in that? Finally he did say that they didn’t get enough of their people out to vote. I presume he meant Republicans, or other people who were inclined to vote for the Republican ticket this year. Basically all he said that Obama had a better get out the vote operation than the Republicans. Chambliss may be a racist. I don’t know. But I do know that you didn’t even come close to proving that in your pathetic, hyper-partisan reporting.
The African-Americans in Georgia have a big question to consider: was it only important to elect Obama because his skin color is the same as theirs or is it important to elect Martin because he shares the agenda and policies of Obama and the Georgians.
Is it skin color or do they want the Democrats to fix things for them?
Put another way, do they really want Chambliss to ruin Obama’s presidency?
