Not a victory yet, but it's looking better and better.
Mark Begich 132,196 Ted Stevens 131,382
20K or so votes will be counted tomorrow, with the remainder counted Monday. The areas to be counted are ones that usually break Democratic. Fingers crossed, but we may be up one more Senator. (Albeit, one we aren't going to like much. Still, better a bad Dem than a "good" Republican).

Yee Haw! Let’s hope Begich gets this seat so that Sarah has one less door to possibly plow through.
Cue Toobz: “NOOOOOOOO!!!!”
Well, the ink isn’t dry on inaugural invites and President elect Obama is already getting public lectures from generals about what weapons systems the president must continue to invest in.

Go Begich!
can you Digg it?
Blue Alaska! Lot of folks here helped the AK Democratic Party in 2006 when they had been given up for lost. Way to go!
fingers and toes crossed that begich pulls it off
We got a blue VA this time around, eg, didn’t we? A blue AK might yet be on the horizon *g*
Woo Hoo! Stevens going down…. Now he can spend some time in one of those federally sponsored country clubs!!
Oh and Neuro I Dugg your Digg that made two Diggs!
are the national repugs going to parachute in armies of lawyers to fight a full and fair counting of the votes, or would they rather be rid of Stevens?
Dugg
Who could have imagined VA would vote for a Democrat for president even 3 years ago? This is a miracle, and Alaska is not far behind.
thanks nahant
Supposedly a task force of RNC lawyers descended on AK in last couple days to inventory Sarah’s Knickersgate clothes, but I’ve had a suspicion they were really sent to deliver the election.
Go Begich go you betcha lets put him down the tubzzz
Ain’t it great? Even Prince William County went blue this year. Unbelievable.
late late nite upstairs
<snark>
To whom?

Seriously though, Stevens winning would be a nightmare for the Republicans pretty much any way it plays out. They are probably better off losing a close race than “winning” with Tubes and having to pry his hands off the reins before he drags more of them down with him.

Learn from Normy.
File suit, you old bastard! That’ll show’em!
Heh, what if there are actually two different fixer teams up there trying to cancel each other out? That’d help explain why there are thousands of new ballots found every day.
A story begins as follows:
Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy and a good Republican were sitting together…
How do you know this story is fictitious?
Because there is no such thing as a good Republican.
There.
They want him gone. Imagine if the Dems said “well, we want to be fair to Senator Stevens. Let’s do a full investigation and let all the appeals play out. It’s only fair…” In fact, I imagine Republican operatives are doing their best right now to make sure all of Begich’s votes are counted.
Begich will be better than Mark Warner and Kay Hagan and probably Mark Udall. We won’t like him on ANWR, but he’ll be fine on a host of other issues.
As far as the incoming Dems thus far, I’d rank them: 1) Jeff Merkley, 2) Tom Udall, 3) Jeanne Shaheen, 4) Begich, 5) Mark Udall, 6) Warner and 7) Hagan. Franken would slot in after Tom Udall. Martin, kind of a wild card. Really only two solid liberal Dems in the bunch.
I don’t mean to suggest that we shouldn’t expect anything from Martin (IMO the least likely winner among the three races remaining), but the psych-factor of crowning Chambliss is not to be ignored.
We have that one coming. I am not above vengeance.
And so, Caribou Barbie contemplates another long hard winter.
