zed?
g’evening pups
Luv, Zed.
LOL! SUZ!
This was for Nahant…
newt!
Digg IT!
Hey Suz,
Good gracious, what a campaign.
Maybe I got a twofer?? Neuro you out there??
Hey Chris!
I’m reading letters between Adams and Jefferson tonight.
You?
Why thank you (((Christine))) (:>))
pw sent me this video a couple weeks ago - i was saving it for when we needed a laugh
Not reading letters, but did see the Adams series on PBS. I’ve been charged with giving lectures about Rene Lalique…and the Exposition Universelle of 1900. Can my poor french muddle through?
Better yours than mine!
Hey, Suz
Hey, my friend…whazzaup!
I need a laugh, but can’t see the video.
didja try clicking on the ’shaft’ link. that will take you directly to the youtube page.
No, I can’t see any links here. Sorry!
try this ce
Ukeleles…Oh Suzanne you should’t have. So exciting how did you know…oh.. oh ..how I live a good ukelele. And the lyriocs so endearing. Only thr women understands her man…down in thw coal mines. Now the moners won’t want to dig thay will just want to play their ukeleles.
What a great contribution to the environment. Now we will all be like Nahant and go natch with solar power.
Suz, that is the funniest thing I’ve seen this week.
Shaft, with a brit accent.
Oh Suzanne,
That was fun!
Suzanne, thank you so much for this great video! I thoroughly enjoyed it. It reinforces my view that there is so much joy out in the world, if you only look for it. Great giggles.
pw sent me the link and i searched around to see what else they did - i almost went with smells like teen spirit but decided pw’s original video caputured them best
Christine, how are you! I love Lalique. You lucky girl you.
Speaking of lakes…Just rowed the back bay. Ir was glass…clear full moon air still the tide was ebb. The Chumash knew what they were doing with their plank boats. Row over to the sand spit with a load of firewood and have a clam bake under the stars.
so droll, love it!
This guy reminds me of me when I sing Baba O’Riley in opera mode. drives everyone in the house crazy.
I am! And I didn’t know anything about his jewelry designs for months. I had to give a lecture last week about his work, and I almost fainted with fright!
no rowing on my bay tonight - storm blowing through - with emphasis on blow. gusts of 25 with predictions of up to 60.
turns out token does not like the wind. he is determined to try to outwait the storm but i fear he is overly optimistic about his wee bladder.
When I was a teenager, we would do what we called California clambakes, with Dugeness crab, clams, corn, potatoes….Just like New England except crab for lobster. It was so much fun.
That sounds perfect.
I’ll bet you did great, and I’ll bet it was exhilarating to get it done and done well.
we used to do that too - would drive from the bay area down to a beach somewhere around monterey and my mom would get out her big cast iron pot.
don’t recall the name of the beach in monterey but we used to go out to the delta to brannon island and do the same, with the addition of freshly caught fish.
Just hanging at the Lake… Will be updating our solar installation tomorrow.
They have all the main components installed and wired, next steps involve up grading our power panel and service. Then we have to wait for inspections and approvals from PG&E (our electric company) and then we GO SOLAR(:>)) We become our very own power generation station!! Here is the link to my last update Day Three Solar Installation!
The crew who were here was great, very freindly and were glad to help me get the info I needed to understand just what was being done. As a thanks for their work I fed them Chicken and shrimp gumbo for lunch today…
Sounds great! We used fish as well, my step-father would catch the fish himself and make a great fish chowder to go with everything else. Those were the days…..
lucky crew!
I am soooo envious.
Dungeness crab and fresh fish chowder, on the beach with a big fire, several families with bunches of kids, parents not paying us much attention…..a teenagers dream!
They thought so also… They said they wished there were customers like me… They also fell in love with Inspector Tucker! I also made sure they got some Peets in the morning… nothing like making sure the crew would make sure and do a extra good job installing the system(:>)
yeap, they certainly were. we would head out in the station wagon headed out for an adventure. sometimes, we ended up in the snow up near blue canyon in the sierras with garbage can lids, others we were fishing in the delta or at the beach. then there were all the relatives. part of the fun for us kids was trying to figure out where we were going - a tradition i’ve proudly carried on my with girls when they were little.
Does anyone here knit. I have an idea for tokens dislike of howling wing. Put a head set in his cap and play his favorite tunes. He may take it off and he may get used to it. I played some great tunes for Blackjack that way. He even tolerated a rain coat.
Insert little head set might work. If not crank up the music…I know you could like that.
Oh,Nahant,
I think that you are a green prince! Please keep us involved step bye step. I am counting on you to lead us Pups forward in the movement toward solar.
That does sound like a lot of good fun.
Hey Pups DIGG Is open ya know!!
Sounds close to heaven, and so nice that you could carry on the tradition.
i don’t think its so much the noise as it is the fact he is 9lbs and the fear the wind could sweep him off his wee little skinny legs and feet.
It was indeed, although I haven’t done it in quite awhile.
I can only knit things that are square. I never learned how to taper off to round things out.
I be trying(:>)) But with this company it is almost too easy! No money down, no payments until system is up and saving us money, full maintenance comes with it. so if it breaks they fix it their dime! We also get remote monitoring via the toobz… just login and ya can see just how the system is performing!! Like I said can’t go wrong!
Good night, pups.
Sounds so great, if you don’t mind my asking, what does something like this cost? I would love to get off the grid, and in California we have plenty of sunshine.
love the tune! I can dig it.
imagine if Isaac Hayes had that vibrato…
Peace and sweet dreams BC.
Did everyone lose their shovels or something??? Digg is open pups or is it not working Again??
That is truly sublime, Suzanne. The only thing more mysterious than why there would be a ukulele orchestra is how you found this video.
Let’s see, what’s on my mind tonight? I rewrote the Ten Commandments, and I really think start a new tradition for Veterans’ Day.
g’nite bct
You can check the different programs they have at their website. The one we have cost around $60K but we are using their lease program and the lease is fully transferable if you sell your home. At the end you can get it upgraded and sign a new lease,. The cost really depends on the size of the system, we have a 11Kw system as we are energy hogs(:>)). I have several servers running 24/7 and heat the upstairs with electric space heaters as there is no central heating upstairs.
Check them out at www.solarcity.com
“I really think we need to“
I like your ten commandments, although I am not, nor am I likely ever to be a vegetarian, much to my shame. No one is perfect.
Thank you so much for all of the great info.
Louis le chat sauvage, first time ever hanging out in my lap. limits the typing skills!
i got my flu shot today. i could feel that shoulder tensing up and was helpless to stop it before the jab. now my forking shoulder is sore :(
i am reminded every time i lift my arms to type at the keyboard.
My le chat sauvage, Chloe, likes to jump up and sit beside or behind me while I try to type. Her tail often hits me in the face when she sits next to me.
hey pun
Flu shot - ouch.
Actually, neither am I. The idea is to keep the mayhem to a minimum, which can be done in a number of ways - don’t eat more than you need to, try to buy meat from people who use humane methods, etc.
It’s an imperfect universe, and in that regard I fit right in…
I’m with you…..
that could be a distraction.
hey, Suz.
There will e more updates as things progress and then when we see just how well the system performs!!
OT - can I get a shout-out for National League Cy Young Award winner (i.e. best pitcher in the league) Tim Lincecum? One of the few bright spots in the dismal Bay Area sports scene.
gotta practice what i preach and i was nagging baby girl pretty hard this year to get flu and pneumonia vaccs - she had pneumonia last year.
shouting out for pun and his pitcher
Well unfortunately, she is pretty pudgey as well and has long hair and a long, fluffy tail. The hair that inevitably flys off, often ends up in my eyes. Very distracting, but I love her.
Looking forward to the updates.
I am getting mine tomorrow after my MRI of my foot! Old injury and nothing showed up on x-rays so…. just my foot so I won’t have to go all the way into the dark cavern…
Pneumonia is pretty dangerous, better safe than sorry.
thanks!
Sigh, he’s Young.
Absolutely positively Tim had a great year and would have won more games if the bullpen did their job for him once in a while!
Thats the one shot that is painful for me… my arm swelled up pretty good last time and my Docs say I have to get one every five years instead of the usual ten year interval…
exactly what i told her - so when she told me she had gotten hers last week, i had to get mine :)
she nags me almost as well i as i nag her - almost (laughing)
I’m a Dodger fan but will happily give you the shout-out, a Cy Young award is pretty special.
Reminds me a bit of Ron Guidry - another fairly small guy with a lively fastball. Hopefully, he’ll be at least as successful.
LOL. and no stranger to chin music.
nahant - good point.
Good for you for getting it done anyway.
now that’s downright civil of you, considering the rivalry. I’d do the same, btw. let’s not get carried away, however: I can’t honestly say I was rooting for the Dodgers in the playoffs. :~)
Nagging is love.
folks, we’ve got a long way to go in this country.
hey cousin what part of California do you live in?
scrawny guy with a goofy grimace - sure can pitch, though.
judas forking priest pun
I wouldn’t expect anything else :-).
Read that earlier Pun and it sure disgusted me. That aid should be prosecuted or something doing that to kids!!
I live in Somis, which is on the outskirts of Camarillo, which is in Ventura County. How about you?
well the rivalry only really works when both team are competitive, and that hasn’t been the case lately. (sniffle, sniffle)
May I offer you a tissue? :)
The only bright spot in that story is that you have to be really, really stupid to expect to get away with saying something like that in a public school. Might make people with similar views wonder how wise they might actually be.
thanky for the hanky
Suz, that was great!
(PS if you keep your arm muscle warm it will feel better–or at least mine did when I got my flu shot.)
Redwood City 1/2 between San Francisco and San Jose!! We love it here.. It was voted as the worlds best weather! They have a sign over Broadway saying “Best Weather by Government Test” The best part is it can’t grow as the Bay is on one side and the water shed is on the other.
You are most welcome. We are civilized, us Dodger fans.
thanks, margot. switching the heating pad from the low back to the left arm :)
Wow they are predicting high 70’s to low 80’s next few days… Woo Hooo time for a BB break out the ribs and steaks!! some fresh Crab would be great also!!
Sounds so beautiful, although we here have been led to believe that we have the best weather. Median temperature is 74 degrees. Tough to beat. Although I do love Northern California. I love the redwood trees.
and the people. I attended college in Northern California.
‘fraid I can’t say the same for all Giants fans. :~(
i heard it was predicted to hit 80 in monterey - and there was gonna be an off-shore wind.
i’m glad i like the rain.
Josh Marshall at TPM:
When should I be there, I’ll be happy to bring something.
Perhaps not a good time to discuss my old home team, eh?
Where at? Our son is at Humboldt State.
I almost married a Giants fan, but in the end it was too much to overcome/s.
My neighbor in back has five of them.. I see them out our bedroom window… only drawback there are way too many squirrels… Tucker loves to chase them out of HIS yard!!
They haven’t had the talent portion yet.
I attended Chico State University.
Well that gives Tucker a raison d’etre, n’est pas?
and it is Tucker’s yard after all.
Well now that Suz has left us I am thinking maybe the next Firedoglake Bay Area meetup might be here at my house, but need to get past this MRI contrast crap first , it seems to be slowly working it out of my system BUT…
good school. ET Jr loves Arcata and the school, though he’s getting to miss the snow. We’ve had 6 inches today, and it is snowing hard.
i think your place would be a great central location for the next nor cal meetup nahant.
Nah. Dude has holes in his roof.
Oh yeah but sometimes he starts barking at them as they use the telephone/cable wires he can see out the bedroom window.. It’s like a freeway for them zoom zoom zoom back and forth..
Sign me up.
But it sounds like he enjoys his patrol.
hey et
Having grown up in Southern California, and although I love to visit the snow, I just can’t imagine having to live with it through such a long winter. I guess we all get used to what we are used to and when we aren’t around it, we miss it.
Boy you be cruising for a bruising NEWT… see if I let you come over for diner!! You missed the Gumbo.. Well not yet but you will(:>()
Still busy fixing those Mac’s and Cheese?
you balked?
When the time comes sure will maybe cousin??? I have some documents tracing ancestors back to 1520 in England and to Maine in the 1620’s so ya never know???
…and big-ass holes, too! Several inches across each! I can show you pictures…
And I’m wondering about the squirrels in his neighborhood. Big beasts, they must be.
Beware the big-ass squirrels, pups!
Sadly, yes, and you know how that it frowned upon…
gonna have to schedule the meetup for a non-rainy day?
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
My mother claims we are cousins to Queen Victoria, so like you say, who knows….
of course we are probably some bastard branch…
So I have to ask myself - mutant-big squirrels that burrow through gravel and tar-sealed roofs… It’s freaking Love Canal over there!
Why so Newt won’t drown??
ROFL!
If you are not good the 12lb ankle biter will get you…
i thought i had it bad with the brazen hussy rat bastoid squirrels at the little cottage by the creek in the redwoods
Nah that is in upstate New York where they were dumping all that toxic crap they make Mac’s out of!
Attention!
Attention Pups:
Hazmat suits and MOPP gear will be dispensed approximately 500 yards east of nahant’s primary residence on the day of the event.
The rental charge and post-party decontamination will be…
oh, harsh….
LOL, even harsher…
Completely paid for and performed by NewtonUsr… that is if you dare let him get that close to you!!
lurks getting out his garden hose for breaking up this cat fight
Laughter is the best medicine and you all are the best doctors!
Suz, I am trying to get a nap. What are they up to now?
late late nite is a special place hidden away in the dark. the community here is wonderful in good times and in bad.
dayam, now i got that we are family earworm going ’round in my head.
the usual hissing and spitting - i expect to hear a ‘he started it’ any moment
I have to confess, I am, obviously, addicted to late late nite….
Wait one. Anti-Lurk is rolling out the hose.
Suz we ARE family in many ways(:>)) The way we support each other even if just over the toobz and the hugs can be rampart at times for those who need them… And just the overall fun we have on the late late nite is just great!! When away I do miss youse guys!!
Lurk keep an eye on that Newt guy he is up to no good tonight!!
I don’t think the hose is necessary, with all due respect, I think a water pistol will take care of it.
I’m not at a bar, I’m not crying into a cocktail, but I love youse guys…
And Newt hasn’t even Dugg Suz’s post tonight.. He is being really snootie tonight!!
The custard hose, sophie. The custard hose.
Now - newt, nahant - vanilla or egg nog? What’s it gonna be?
we are. i feel very lucky to be a part of it.
D’oh!
nahant - thanks for leading by doing with your solar enthusiasm!
Evening all - have missed you firepups!!
npb!
OOH OOh eggnog with the RUM please and lots of cinnamon and nutmeg..
I do so love custard, either one please, even though I have not done, or said, anything untoward.
evening npb good to see you here(:>))
vanilla please.
with wafers.
and bananas.
offer lurk some dark chocolate covered pecans - can’t resist those
AS they say better late than never(:>))
ARe you past the big rush you were in?? And does your cell work now??
Great choice, applaud, applaud. Banana pudding is one of the best!
Love that myself. Seriously, I sometimes melt some 60% Valhrona dark chocolate and mix in some pecans. One of the best sweets on the planet.
We cheated. Me and my many sisters would sneak into GrandMa’s kitchen and drink the still-warm custard.
Cholesterol count - check!
second only to my bread pudding
Dark-roasted pecans…
When it comes to custard, cholesterol is not worthy of mention.
i thought you were napping
I’m with you there…did you see the 60% Valhrona dark chocolate…goes great with dark roasted pecans. I swear I love pecans…..
You’re right.
Plus, GrandMa lived a couple of thousand miles away. I’m told (Suz) that caloric intake that far from home was immune.
OK, caught up on some chores.
Tomorrow, we count at least 50,000 late absentee, early and questioned ballots, out of 90,000. given our state population of 600,000, that’s like if California was counting 5.7 million late votes.
Well pups time to hit the sack my appointment is early and they won’t let you be late!! Military mindset ya know at the VA… but I can’t complain about the price!!
So
Nitey
Nite
Pups
Sleep well when ya get there and see ya next late late nite(:>))
And do Remember Obama will be president before you know it so you can sleep soundly!!
Right. Carry on.
Just like eating anything out of the refrigerator, while standing, has zero calories, zero cholesterol.
nite nahant
g’nite nahant
et, what time tomorrow do ya figure they will have the #s?
Peace and sweet dreams cuz.
probably by 6:00 fdl time.
We can only cross our fingers.
ET - I hate to ask, but what will Alaskans do if Stevens wins (such as it is) and is then expelled?
fingers and toes crossed et
It is a shame that most of those instruments aren’t really ukeleles.
Dear, dear Dr. Dave, do you really want to harsh our happy?
hey dr dave
Hold a special election within 90 days. Each party selects one candidate, through a process that hasn’t been tried yet. In the interim, the governor can appoint a temp, even her husband.
Actually I meant the community reaction. They reelect him and he is snatched out from under.
or his wife?
I love you folks in Alaska, but you really have to do something to rein in your “special” governor. And by “special” I mean a short bus sort of thing.
Yep we don’t have Diebold.
Let us not go to the mentally handicapped card, please.
That would be a good thing.
Sorry, my bad.
I heard Leon Panetta was on some sort of list or invite via Obama camp. A good man mostly but way past his prime and way too cozy with the Thuglicans.
I’m sorta with you on that. But Panetta knows a lot of people and a lot of things. I hope he is there for the early advise, and not for the long term.
God knows some of us have been trying, sophie…
Dim son and SP may have similar IQs. I don’t know either ones. Chewing tobacco in a Maters class does express a certain disdain for intellectual power. No woder he latched onto a fundy kind of Love.
wasn’t panetta cos at one point?
I know you have and it is so appreciated. My brother was in the Coast Guard and was stationed on Kodiak for four years. We love Alaska!
Yeah. And he’s gotta be in his 70’s now.
Wait, sophie - you stood at the fridge and drank the custard?
My favorite conceit! I didn’t even tell my sisters about that.
Isn’t that a top-forty song?
I swear you made me laugh very loud, by myself, my kids (dog and cat) looked up at me like I should be on the short bus.
ok pups, that’s it for me - thanks for hanging out with me tonight
g’nite all
Peace and sweet dreams, and warmth, Suzanne. Thank you.
nite suz
I’ve got Charlie Rose in the background. I watch his show every night. One of my favorite shows. I know he is a right winger at heart, but he does have a lot of really interesting people on his show.
yep and resigned 2.5 years later. He helped the budget balance under Clinton.
I will only watch Rose now when he had movie directors on.
Tarantino is always a blast!
Tonight he has Mike D’Antoni on. I love basketball. D’Antoni is a great coach. I also like pretty much everyone he has on except the right-wingers, which of course, is less these days. Which is a good thing. He has artists, musicians, actors, directors, activists, poets, philosophers, writers, etc, etc. It’s all pretty good.
…and Sean Penn.
Sits there and smokes the whole time. Pretty funny.
Sliced Fuji apples in transection slices sprinkled with brown sugar…thompson seedless organic raisins…pecan halves after
veggiw cayenne and hot curry string beans a few sprouted bean variety..baguette with chopped onions and havarti cheese melted in micro wave 22 seconds…while wandering the internet and lurking. What an enclave Solis near Camarillo close to Simi valley and other interesting spots. Google earth takes you anywhere the fastesy cheapest trip on the planet.
I love Sean Penn, he is really smart, and a great pissed off librul. God bless him!
Goodnight We have a 5 foot tide in the morning I want to row again body willing. Mave a nice day.
Somis is engulfed in a pretty red county. Very beautiful. Great weather. But can be very difficult in terms of people with the ability to understand abstract ideas. Google Earth is a great thing. Camarillo, where I actually grew up is a beautiful place. We have a great farmers market every weekend, which is a big improvement. Most folks here do not believe in global climate change. That is a sad thing.
I like how he flips between acting and directing. He finished The Pledge and later told Rose that he was tired of acting.
Almost immediately he turns up the lead in Mystic River and 21 Grams.
Peace and sweet dreams BB.
He is seriously a GREAT actor.
and he is a very serious thinker, which I respect even more….
Yeah, a lifetime away from Ridgemont and Bad Boys.
Like you said, Mystic River and 21 Grams….
and he did an appearance on my favorite comedy, One and a Half Men….
I just went and looked at the list.
Some career. Madonna could have done worse. Come to think of it, she did.
LOL. Madonna did do a lot worse, didn’t she…
Meaning she, Madonna, comes across as crass, he doesn’t…
I like Guy Ritchie films except the one he did for her. Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels are a ton of fun.
But she is a caricature of herself now, and he has a very serious career.
But in the divorce, he will probably get a serious amount of money.
Good for him.
I mean that she is such an oddball, and I don’t have an issue with oddballs, but she just takes the cake.
evil!
LOL!
Hey, as long as it never happens to me. Whatever….
As far as oddballs go, as long as she isn’t hurting anyone, or making me read her tabloid greatest hits, cool.
I have no appetite for the rags.
She needs to get herself back into the studio anyway.
Attaturk is upstairs!
*Rim Shot*
Sorry, I am now watching Worldwide Exchange on CNBC. Thinking money…../s
She is talented, for what it is that she does….
Still has pipes.
nite sophie, pups.
along day ahead.
Peace and sweet dreams newtonusr. Thanks for the entertaining evening.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
