If you think the GOP doesn’t care what happens in the Saxby Chambliss-Jim Martin runoff on December 2, get a load of this wingnutty riff from Georgia state senator Eric Johnson:

“This is not the last election of the 2008 cycle — consider this is the first race of the 2010 cycle where we begin to claw our way back into power with solid principles and integrity. This is Georgia, by God, and we must draw a line in the sand. We will pick our Senators — not Hollywood, Wall Street, the New York Times, or MoveOn.org.

And sure enough, it looks like both McCain and Palin are coming down to prevent Wall Street (WTF?) and MoveOn.org from picking Jim Martin.

Meanwhile, Chambliss may have a built-in turnout advantage.

According to analysts, democrats don’t usually make the extra effort to return to the polls for runoff elections. Despite the fact that Clayton county led Georgia in votes for President-elect Barack Obama, 67 percent of residents voted, and many came out because of the presidential election. Republicans are counting on democrats not coming out again so that Chambliss can easily reclaim his senate seat and stop the super majority the democrats covet.
