Despite the assiduous efforts of certain members of the local right-wing blogging confederacy and shadowy groups like "The Minnesota Majority", Norm Coleman’s attempt at his own version of 2000′s "Brooks Brothers Riot" is falling flat, even with many conservatives. First we had the Fairmont Sentinel telling Norm to siddown and shaddup; now we have the New Ulm Journal, another conservative Minnesota paper, saying much the same thing: "The recount is the right way to settle this. It may be December before the recount is complete and we know who the winner will be, but that’s OK. Let the voters decide who wins, not the spinmeisters."
Coleman’s legal Hail Mary passes have centered around thirty-two absentee ballots found in heavily-Democratic Minneapolis; his lawyers have tried to raise questions about these ballots, making all sorts of baseless insinuations, but their first attempt to use these ballots as a pretext for stopping the recount was shot down by Ramsey County judge Kathleen Gearin on jurisdictional grounds. By the way: While Minnesota allows same-day registration and voting, they as yet still put restrictions on absentee voting.
Final county vote tallies were submitted to the Secretary of State, Mark Ritchie, on Sunday, after the completion of a recanvass of the tallies for error-checking; as of tonight, Coleman’s lead over Franken stood at 206 votes; the cutoff for submissions is 12:01 AM tomorrow morning. Ritchie’s office will analyze the tallies, then submit the findings to the state canvassing board on November 18. The full hand recount will start after that.
Nate Silver at FiveThirtyEight.com, as of tonight, states that he believes that Franken is a "slight favorite to win the recount" when it happens — as I predicted he would earlier today.
Meanwhile, Republican Party of Minnesota Chair Ron Carey made an ass of himself by declaring "victory" for Coleman, as if merely doing so could cause the legally-mandated recanvass and recount to be stopped. Sorry, that’s not the way it works, Ron.

nahant!
I’m baiting my breath…heavily, crossing my fingers and hunting frantically for rabbits feet.
Let it be Al…Let it be Al…let it be Al!
Why do Republicans hate democracy?
I dunno, there’s something fishy about baiting your breath…
When ya get here Pups Digg this Post from Phoenix Woman!!
Digg it
Dems may win two of the outstanding seats- Alaska and Minnesota–don’t see how they pull Georgia out of the fire though.
Well?? Did ya get your data transfered??
Politico on Normy’s latest lawsuit troubles:

We’re already sending religious nuts in Bachmann and Paulsen; please god, let’s not send a crook, too!
still trying to get the old computer on the network
will probably give up and just use the flash drive
Because they are spoiled little brats and have never learned self control! If if the lose they want to take the ball and go home with it!
Ah…but if I use cheese, as in bait for a rat…then am I baiting with ratfood ;-)
If Franken can knock off Coleman that would be Huge. Coleman is a dirty politician who has been pretty messy in his dealings. It is time for him to go.
Meanwhile, Republican Party of Minnesota Chair Ron Carey made an ass of himself….
Isn’t he just following the national Republican State Chair manual?
I mean, it *is* part of the job description, right?
why is Norm so afraid to have all the votes counted?
other than that he would lose?
Because. :-)
Sorry, that’s not the way it works, Ron.
Worked for Dubya. Say it and make it so. Brooks Bros., Katherine Harris, JEB, James Baker and the Baker Gurvitz Army, Federal Supreme Court Swing Vote Sandra Day O’Connor. Dubya!
Or just get a transfer cable if the flash drive doesn’t work. But ya know try reformatting the flash drive the next time before you try using the Wizard!!
The conventional wisdom says Dems won’t turn out to vote in the runoff. Conventional wisdom has been wrong about everything else in this election cycle. If Obama and some other influential Dems pitch in, maybe they can pull it out.
nahant, we double-digged again…I give up
Mm mmm, I loves me some cheese!
anybody heard whether Obama will campaign in the Georgia runoff?
The deal is that Norm is having legal troubles — one of the allegations in the Texas lawsuits is that his BFF Nasser Kazeminy tried to give him $75,000 outright — and when he couldn’t do that, gave it to Norm via his wife.
If Norm suddenly gets hauled away by the Feds while a sitting Senator, Minnesota’s Republican governor, Tim Pawlenty, picks his replacement.
That’s because Florida didn’t have settled law on how to deal with the situation. Minnesota does, mainly because we went through a similarly-close recount in a gubernatorial race in the 1960s.
Norm and the RPM can holler till the cows come home. They can’t stop the recount. Period.
They also wanted to do everything they could to suppress voter turnout last Tuesday, which strikes me as antithetical to the democratic process.
so is Coleman still demanding that Franken throw in the towel and not allow the recount mandated by law to go forward?
or could Franken stop it even if he wanted to?
That is what I have heard.
If Norm suddenly gets hauled away by the Feds while a sitting Senator, Minnesota’s Republican governor, Tim Pawlenty, picks his replacement.
Can he pick Sarah Palin?
I read somewhere ? huffpo that the Obama campaign team was sent to GA to assist with the run out election.
Same old same old Grand Party! If you can’t win the votes make sure the opposition doesn’t get to vote simple! Can’t lose that way!! They have always done it that way, it is in their blood!!
Count every vote.
Yupper!
This is all about trying desperately to keep Norm in office right until he’s indicted — at which point GOP governor Pawlenty picks his replacement.
Not unless she moves to Minnesota, he can’t. :-)
McCain to campaign in Georgia Thursday for Chambliss
says our guy has invited Obama to Georgia, but not whether O has accepted
says our guy is using O’s organization in the state
Hello. Is there anyone here from Blackduck, Bemidji, Karlstad or Barrett Minnesota here?
Funny thing about counting votes….. Arizona has 199,000 early ballots that still have not been counted and 100,000 provisional ballots that have not been resolved. At least AZ does count and verify the provisional ballots.
here? !
Bad enough they tried to prevent people from voting, endeavoring to keep votes from being counted after they have been cast seems like the sort of thing that should land a person behind bars.
Didn’t she actually establish residence at a Neiman Marcus in St. Paul?
Which, I actually wouldn’t disagree if I thought Tim-a fee-pa-lunty would choose Dean Barkly. That would almost seem equitable, fair, and might have been the only good decision Jesse Ventura ever made…which is exactly why we can be assured that a Republican tool and Grover Norquist BFF like Timmy would never do such a thing!
Ventura said pot should be legal. He didn’t do anything to help make it happen but token lip-service is more than it gets from most pols.
It appears Neiman Marcus has set up several shrines in her honor. There are these statues all over the store with really nice clothes and hollow heads.
In all fairness, the mannequins probably have a better grasp of history and geography.
Oh Jesse did a lot for pot consumption. He turned his miscreant of a son and dozens friends loose in the Governor’s mansion. I’m betting there was more rope burned in those hallowed halls under Jesse’s watch than at any time in it’s cumulative, august past.
There is so many “wins” here. Franken unleashed on the senate cesspool. Coleman collapsing in a pool of jelly waiting for indictment. And the desert? Bill Orally’s head exploding live on Faux Network.
Settled law! Now that sounds like a nice house guest.
why do you ask?
But, but.. Minneapolis is not real America, why count anymore votes from there?!
OT: KO’s special comment regarding the Prop 8 passage is excellent.
Cuz I’m from there. I want to talk to people from there.
Good to hear. There’s a lot of Californians who richly deserve to be spanked rosy over this.
Went to grade school in Bemidji. Drove thru Blackduck in October. Ever been to the Lost Forty?
Ooops, it’s Daily Show time….
watertiger upstairs
It wasn’t shrill or blustery like most of his recent SCs. Understated in it’s delivery and spot on in it’s content.
he seemed a little choked up at times
I’m concerned about the new absentee and “questioned” ballots that are emerging in Alaska, though. If I’m counting right they/ve found about 10,000 new ballots that were not accounted for. 2400 of them come from Palin’s Mat-Su area, about 2300 from heavily Republican Areas 33-36, and 2736 from the pro-Stevens areas 27-32.
Yeah…suddenly 75% of the newly discovered ballots come in from areas likely to be voting for Stevens? Very unlikely!
Toobz & The Goopers: In for a penny…
RW,
Obama needs to send his New Model Army down to Georgia for the runoff, and make damned sure that everyone on the Obama list who voted in the General gets to the goddam polls for the runoff.
Yes, Barack, it’s that important!
You betcha!
I thought Ron Carey was the funny-looking cop on ‘Barney Miller’.
