Suz!
ES!
es!
Wow, is everyone still comparing fashion statements?
FunnyD
Hey ES.kayak season is about over?
Digg!
Sorry Eureka, I saw Suzanne’s invitation down below and thought she was inviting us to one of hers
It’s a new day and definitely beyond kayak season here (unless you like 40 degree water) in western Montana.
Never! *g*
Good evening all… it’s a new day
I saw this last night, and played it over and over. So wonderful.
will.i.am
evening eureka
Arkansas blacks are now perfect. Seems those I was bitching about were picked too soon.
ES!
Our kayak season is just beginning – rainy season – and big bonus, they are testing the new water filtration system just down the road and releasing massive amounts from the dam into the river. i’ve been taking hubby up to the put-in at the Buddhist monastery around the corner.
Heh?
It hit my inbox in the weee hours sat morning… I’ve listened to it a couple of dozen times since. Was all i could do to hold it ’til my next LLN post. *g*
Hey, ES. If you are into kayaking, you should come up here and try the Lochsa River in May or June. It is just over the border in Idaho. Class III-IV rapids all the way down that time of the year. I have rafted it a couple of times. Lets you know you are alive.
It’s been raining all day and night here… and the air smells heavenly. I can hear the river rising.
Yer killing me here. I haven’t made it to Green Forrest yet… where I buy mine every year.
DrDick, we rafted the Lochsa a few years ago – it was cold and rainy and I was sick and miserable, so my memories are not the best, but it is beautiful. I remember thousands of butterflies at one point – or was that a fever dream?
Dr.. be careful about inviting me up to your neck of the woods. I might take you up on it. *s*
Only driven through Montana a couple of times.. I would love to spend some real time in the waters and woods up there someday.
Probably not a dream. We often get huge swarms of butterflies along the rivers.
This is what it looks like for the unitiated.
storm coming in here too – gotta couple weather warnings for winds and high surf
A small sample of what is on offer in western Montana.
I should say I would probably take the raft route on a river like that.
Been raining off and on for about a week here. Of course a Missoula downpour is drizzling anywhere else. Also cold (warmest it has been is 50, mostly i the 40s).
Quick read-by. I enjoyed the videos, thank you, ES … will.i.am and Kate are so great. And thanks to this site-family for all its incredible “on topness” of the truth. It is the beginning of a new day, and vigilance is even more key now. Good night.

Above link may be old news, but incredible how many across the world were dancing in the streets to say “buh bye” to Bushcos!
That isn’t even one of the roughest spots.
looks like heaven, DrDick
hey eureka-i’ve been playing will.i.am, too…love his ‘eye jive’

Time to plant those apple trees for yourownself.
same here – my rain gauge has measured precip every day for a week – but the sun does tend to come out for a wee bit in the late afternoon – a nice change from the drizzle.
this storm is my first official typical fall storm at the coast.
Thank you for that.
It’s just about at the freezing point out here. We’ve already had some snow, melted though.
I saw that picture from the preceeding thread, and Jacqueline Bouvier came to mind.
Close enough for me. Try to spend as much time as possible in the mountains and on the rivers during the summer. Hope to get in some cross country skiing this winter. Last couple of years we haven’t had much snow down low.
Thanks! will.i.am went from Grant park/ Obamas speech on Tuesday night, straight to the studio and did this song.
The energy really comes through.
I am off to bed. Actually have the day off tomorrow, but it is still well past my bedtime.
That 22″ Brown sure looks good! Reminds me of a week outside of Taos about ten years back. I was the only fisherman and I feed 90 folks with my catch that week. (more than they could eat).
Can’t believe I forgot these!

So, I think I’ll share a few of my OTHER heroe’s . . . from 1992 IBMA and The American Music Workshop hosted by the dearly departed John Hartford, and damn I miss him.
nite all. see you in a week or two.
taking a mental health break – wiped from the election and pissed to the max re: lieberman.
nite sunny
good for you
nite sunny see you when you’re back

The printers would not take a check from Florida today and sent me to my bank to cash it. There were a few BWs there as I parked to go in. TV cameras were in the parking lot focusing on the ATMs.
They would not let me in and directed me to a branch 15 miles away. But then he looked at the check and saw it was drawn on a big chain that had recently bought out another big bank and so I went there.
The TV station asked for an opinion interview as I was leaving suggesting that the recession was causing more robberies…they had covered three in last few days. I said yes some people might be more likely if they were desperate to feed and house their families.
While you all are celebrating the repukes are unloading the treasury and giving it to the banks who are robbing the citizens of a safety net and Obama will be squeezed to get healthcare, jobs, environment off of the ground.
Just imagine 2% unemployment for starters goinh into this recession. Circuit city just decared bankruptcy. DHL delivery layed of 40,000 today. People are waiting for the pink slip in the next paycheck. The Big three auto lining up for more bail money from the taxpayers. Who’s going to commit to $25 to $50K for a new ride in this uncertain time? There will be a lot less competion in retail come January as it is not profitable to buy stuff to resell. Those that have long leases will not be able to downsize and the leases will drive them under.
Police here are frustrated and embarrassed as well as loking very P O ed. More homless. THe picture of the guy robber was a loser looking for a cell and a meal.
And as long as I’m goin off on MY music, here’s one where Mr. Hartford, again from ‘92, leads it all off . . . all the winners, 20 or more. From Laurie Lewis Left Coast, to Flux Douglas on dobro, to the rest who are pure magic. Some of the best pickers in the world, circa ‘92.
That’s real music, that’s real musician ship.
That’s how you jam, share, and pick.
And nothing, NOTHING, touches that.
If your hands ever touched an instrument, and you can plink something, this is where you are bound. Pure talent. And hands touch strings. It’s all hands on . . . and voices that know what the harmony is, and what the theory of the harmony is.
Real music. By real people. No synth’s. No drum machine’s. No dub’s, no tracked vocals or special effects. Just real people, in real time, making real music.
Harumph. *G*
The fdl lake appears to be calm this evening. Mine is frozen.
22% my bad in inner cities.
Shock Doctrine at work…..
There’s a haiku in here somewhere.
How goes, ET?
of course I don’t mean individual incidents, but the results…
as we used to say in the old days, holidays mean tis the season to be robbing
crimes go up during holidays for a myriad of reasons – more opportunities (gifts in cars etc), the economy, and the societal pressure of giving when there is nothing to give create job security for those in law enforcement.
first time this season its frozen et? how soon can ya go ice skating on it? didja get the float in?
vote counting proceeds

polar theft thwarted
I could have skated Saturday. Calm, sunny,35 degrees, the ice about six or seven inches thick. I took a nap. Now it is blowing 30 mph.
sweet et – strider and you can walk the lake again. (did i fork up his name – if so i’m sorry and freely admit that i also call my girls by the wrong names just as my mom does to my sister and i)
Strider got to go skiing with Ms ET up at Hatcher Pass, while I took a nap. I haven’t seen him out on the lake yet. He’s starting to get arthritis in his forelegs, so he’s less adventurous this winter than I’ve ever seen him.
Hi Sophiehunter ( distant Hunter rlative). Yep int eh depression a large portion lived on farms and had a chance to eat. Now we are an urban population and we cannot afford to let people starve or go without shelter.
It does seem like the shock doctrine…it just had not occourred to me as yet…it seems so third world not here. My contractor friends have no normal work its small stuff. The bank get bailed but the people s safety nets are being taken away. Our county cut those services last month and had all department head freeze hiring with no replacements for the 2500 employees. People feel it and worry I can feel the mood which is not festive holiday. Maybe it will pick up as usual after Turkey Sacrifice day…I was a bird eating guy until I lost my pup who I bought bird for. I am wondering when they will make me move out of my apartment.
oh, i’m sorry to hear that about strider et. is there anything you can do to ease his arthritis this winter?
That’s hopeful. Looking good to you, then?
For what its worth, I understand (from my former spouse who works in that area) that at least in SF there has never been a better supply of shelter. There are city folks literally walking around with apartment keys they can hand out to those “clients” able and willing to use them. Many are not willing because of bad past experiences with provided housing, though, or spinning too fast in their substance + mental situation to understand it would be better for them to live inside than outside. Dunno whether other cities are similarly well equipped.
Correction, “similarly.” If anyone else is still here, that is.
I don’t think it can be believed that Greenspan, Bernancke, Cox, Paulson, et al., didn’t know that the financial system was going to blow up. I knew it at the end of 2005. I was a tax preparer and saw many clients who only made $60,000 – $70,000 a year buying multiple, sometimes as many as 7, homes/condos to “flip” and make a bundle. How can anyone making so little money buy that many properties? I also saw many clients using their homes as piggy banks. I knew this could not continue, it was going to be an ugly game of musical chairs, when the music stopped many people would be on their asses on the floor. I told all of my friends and family to get out of real estate. Additionally, I got all of my friends and family out of the stock market at the end of August 2007. Many layoffs had already begun to be announced, with many more to come If I could see this, how could the “great” minds miss it? I don’t think so.
supposed to be, “I don’t think it can be believed….”
Here, the front page news is that the mayor is suspending housing code compliance, because no one has money to pay for housing repairs, paint, etc.
This is just wonderful. They have dogged me as if I’m the only person in this town with peeling paint on my house.
Psssst…
It’s the 40 foot statue of a lumberjack that they’re after.
They should leave people alone. They should be happy that people actually live in the houses. Many are empty….

Peace and sweet dreams suzanne.
It is sooooo important, even though we have “won” that we keep up the pressure on our new government. Many things need to be accomplished. We need to stay as involved now as we were during the election. Jobs, healthcare, education, the environment, ending wars, etc, etc. These are huge, complex problems that will continue to require much of our attention. I hope we are up to the challenge…..
I am glad they got out. I am no great economist but the housing bubble was so obvious….thr CDOs and CDS took a little looking. We lost our friendly tire store town of 15K. Lot of realtors offices looking glum as are the army of realtors. Know a few mortgage brokers that are struggling and layed of most of their staff still have a nut to crack. Kids in the front duplex moved back into parents “for a while”. Just graduated no jobs unless they go away. Been there done that.
Does anyone have a brain? This economy has what tripled since WWII? It is huge and it is stalling.Where are the smart folks? I don’t get it. It is all about political power and hanging on to it. They just flat out don’t care. Every day it is a new incedible event. Liarman puts the shive in Obama during the campaign and Obama protects his back? Our hero FISA filibuster DODD has thrown the netroots under the bus. Barney Franks is an absolute nut case. They are serving softballs at the committees on the Hill that investigating scams. Liarman on Homeland security investigating us…give me a break.
Here we have 48 beds for 4200 chronic homeless.
Here we have…
I have noticed here where I live, the coupon books that come in the mail have at least 3 times as many discount coupons for local business. Nobody is exempt from the downturn.
Margot you remind me of an issue I have been fighting for 10 years with litle traction. The powers that be want a big state of the arts highly engineered and very expensive sewer to replace our septic/leach field system. Only thing is there are thousands like you who have little disposable income…you know it is retirement area. How can they afford to put on the new roofs the house repairs and a proposed $300.00 a month sewer bill?
icy cold glare reflecting pure hate

will there be a spring?
can we see the future from our front door?
Thanks for the recipe. I have an offer for a free rolling machine. I have the flour just need to make the dowl drying rack.
The bottom line is that the powers that be knew the economy would blow up. They didn’t care, they already made their money in the deregulated economy and no-bid contract war economy that they had created. Additionally, they will make money on severely discounted real estate as they use their “spoils” to invest in new “hedge funds” that buy up distressed real estate to resell when the market turns around, as well as distressed stocks and bonds.
That’s great. I think I might have left out salt in the recipe. If I did, the amount would be one teaspoon for every two cups of flour.
Also best to use Kosher or sea salt.
have a nice day tomorrow I can feel its time to crumble into bump under a lot of covers…cool tonight. See ya next time.
peace and sweet dreams.
