CNN:
Illionis Rep. Rahm Emanuel, a former Clinton administration aide, has accepted the position of President-elect Obama’s chief of staff, a Democratic aide tells CNN.
After reports that Emanuel had agreed to be Obama’s chief of staff on Thursday, the top Republican in the House, Rep. John Boehner of Ohio, questioned the president-elect’s pick.
"This is an ironic choice for a president-elect who has promised to change Washington, make politics more civil, and govern from the center," Boehner said.
Translation: MOMMMMMMMMY!
I do love it when Republicans plea for civility. Makes me laugh every time.

WTF???
HE’s THE DRAMA QUEEN ???
Remember, the Rethuglicans work from an entirely different dictionary than the rest of us do:
“Gift”: Whatever I can’t figure out how to hide and won’t declare.
“Convict”: I’m convicted when I SAY I’m convicted.
“Bipartisan”: When Democrats lay down and don’t twitch too much when we roll over them.
“Civility”: When we get to call you Socialists, Communists and Terrorists and you stand there and take it and don’t punch us in the nose.
They are a bunch of pansy-a**ed weeny-whiners. Suck it up, boys. You screwed the country; the American People have thrown your sorry a**es to the curb. You are now in Siberia on the Potomac. Get used to it.
Boehner, the same guy who called Obama a chicken shit, is conceerned about the civility of politics in Washington? I guess, when he said that, he hadn’t been looking at the polls and realizing that he was calling the next president a chicken S###. So, let’s all take notes from him on working for the good of the country.
AS IF Boehner would know irony when he saw it!
TobyWollin
I love the definition of civility.
Cry me a river Rethugs.
It’s hard to detect irony when you’re drunk and crying.
You can always count on Boehner to pitch himself on the floor in a fit.
Even the gop spokespeople on msnbc say that clearly the american people are tired of this kind of political discourse, but the paradox is that all that’s left are the most ######## wingnuts that want this type of thing from Boehner.
Worked so well during the bailout…
Well, I’m glad Rep. Rahm Emanuel who got into politics by his own choice, finally decided he would his family some of his great talents, and instead help out Barack and the country for a little while.
Rep. Rahm Emanuel is a DLC-bot, and WAS against running progressive Democratic candidates in 2006(6).
Those progressives won despite being discouraged by the party and Rep. Rahm Emanuel, and my magic, he get credit for their success.
Give me a break.
JaneH seemed pretty upset about the pick yesterday. Didn’t know what to make of it.
I don’t like Rahmbo, but he could be effective in that key management role. He is a pitbull (does he need lipstick by any chance?) and I sure can see why GOP hanger oners would be scared; Rahmbo will be tough with them. I don’t see a contradiction between working with someone yet being firm (I guess GOPers want someone that always acceed to their demands as a minority/irrelevant party).
Isn’t it funny that Democrats were completely shut out for 8 years and – before Obana even gets started – GOPers are crying foul over being shut out.
Karma sure is a bith! (when you are not nice to her of course!)
It must be easy to start barking every time a member from the other side of the aisle starts talking.
Boehner = pavlov dog
Rahm seems like he’d be a good consigliere
I just like calling him “boner.”
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Meanwhile, WATB Eric Cantor gets the Whip position in the House. When last seen, Cantor was whining about mean Nancy Pelosi using harsh words and causing the GOP to defeat the first bailout bill. Yeah, that guy.
Rahm is a hardcore centrist, so I don’t know what the hell Boehner is whining about.
I don’t think that expression means what boehner thinks it means
Boner oughta see a doctor about that woody that’s lasted longer than 4 hours. An 8 year woody’s gotta cause a guy to be a little unhinged and detached from reality.
Why do Republicons whine? It’s just in their nature. Boner included.
The blood has drained from Boner’s brain to his boner.
LOL. me too.
Does Boner wear eyeliner or is it just me?
I dunno. Why do you wear eye liner?
In the spirit of bipartisanship I think President Obama should nominate Boo-Hoo Boehner for Secretary of Wanton Douchebaggery.

And this from Leen at campaign silo, he has a good pt.
How much change are we going to witness in the Israeli Palestinian conflict when Dennis Ross( for the invasion, talks trash about Iran all of the time) is one of Obama’s main advisers on the middle east and Obama’s first pick Rahm Emmanuel represents the right wing (radical arm in regard to the I/P conflict) of the Democratic party. Rahm supported the invasion of Iraq and has vocally supported Israel’s occupation of the West Bank and the Gaza and supported Israel’s 2006 attack on Lebanon. He also volunteered in the Israeli occupying forces during the first Iraq war. Is this legal to serve in another country’s military and then serve as a congressman? Seems like a very serious conflict of interest.
Republicans whine. It’s what they do. They figure if they whine enough about a centrist, Democrats won’t want to even think about how much whining they’ll do if they ever put forward a genuine progressive.
Rahm is as likely to use his “pitbull” tactics to protect Obama from progressives as he is to use them against Republicans. In fact, he has more in common with Republicans than with us.
Awwwwwe, Boner is just upset that his BFF, Roy Blunt just stepped down as the number two knee cracker , Minority Whip.
http://blog.washingtonpost.com…..id=topnews
Maybe Obama thinks it’s a good idea to get Rahm out of Congress and put him someplace where he can use his powers for good…
I hope that’s the thinking anyway.
need a paper towel after that bit of an exchange. Please hand me. Ya know, the computer screen and all.
With Rahm in the House Obama couldn’t direct him to do anything. With Rahm in the White House Obama says jump Rahm asks how high.
I know many progressives dislike Emmanuel. I don’t know that much about him but so far trust Obama’s judgment, based on his campaign, about who would be effective in what position. I do place great faith in Boehner’s judgment, and if he doesn’t like Emmanuel, it recommends him very highly to me.
drive-by–lieberman on mxnbc
Ugh. Hojo making a statement now saying he’ll support our new president…saying nothing except something vague about options.
lieberman was cryptic. said nothing decdlarative.
later.
Xactly.
Here’s Boner’s crying episode:
http://crooksandliars.com/medi…..1397/14212
Yes, the talking heads went “huh?”
andrea mitchell claiming that dems need hojo more than he needs them. I’m wrinkling my nose.
I see that as a risk, but I think/hope Obama is strong enough to not let that happen.
If he uses his powers for good to pursue Obama’s agenda, he might be able to instill some caucus discipline – not the Dem’s strong suit.
excellent point
That’s my hunch as well…keep him close by.
Why are so many people here still so angry?
I’m probably wrong, but it seems to me that there’s been a lot of pissed off this morning.
Mrs. Greenspan predicting Dems need Lieberman more than he needs them, cites 3 outstanding Senate races.
This is so fundamental a moment…whatever Reid told him, and he didn’t look happy, I don’t care if he is the one and only Senator who can get Dems to 60. Kick him out. Kick him when he’s down.
HoJo is about out of options. He’s either with us or not. He is never to be trusted and if he wants to be an R that’s okay. Wonder what happened in his meeting with Reid.
ditto here. I wonder if everyone is taking a while to adjust to the new order. esp establishment folks like mrs. greenspan. she sounds tired, doesn’t she?
Further, I’d tell McConnell if he takes Lieberlouse into the Republican fold there will be a price to be paid there, too.
The man should be shunned for the nonperson he is.
I agree. I’m already feeling a lot of deja vu from the early Clinton days, and not in a good way.
likely response to that is
just doin my job ma’am
and the price of liberty is vigilance.
How many Mulligans can Andrea Mitchell take before she loses all credibility?
Not sure but I’m guessing that Lieberman had one of these options in mind.
Option 1: Stab the Democrats in the back
Option 2: Stab the Democrats in the back
Option 3: Stab the Democrats in the back
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Rahm may not fit the enemy mold very well but his interests don’t match those of any progressive.
Option 4: go see what susan collins thinks
Well, I’m not angry! :] I just don’t like Boehner and he’s a big reminder of the ugliness of partisan politics for the past eight years, actually longer, going back to the Newt and the Bugman.
So I fart in Boehner’s general direction.
What?????
Easy for you to say.
Bigger picture, people.
I know, it’s difficult.
Harder than just posting here, ya think?
Okay, I know why people are pissed off.
I agree. To to quote Churchill and Ben Affleck, he is something “up with which we should not put.”
LOL so true.
But hey, no hard feelings. I’m sure Reid and Lieberman continue to be friends. (rolling eyes)
was just thinking of the bard and the lawyers that’s all and it came to mind.
it occurs to me if everyone fired all the msm pundits news might actually begin to be that, news. Have no idea what the rest of what you wrote means. But honor your sincerity nonetheless.
In reality, he’s an I who should caucus with the Rs, if he caucuses at all.
Thanks for sharing your pain.
We all have a job to do.
Some jobs are more time consuming and difficult than others, but, you are not alone. There are others.
Have a fish? Learn to fish? Miss kittykitty?
I don’t need a snarky lecture. But, again thanks.
I was thinking something like this when NPR was giving air-time to ROBERT KAGAN and MICHAEL O’HANLON this morning.
Why, NPR, why?
I am just a dim witted kitty, your comments too deep for my widda brain, inscrutable. and the fish in my state is loaded with mercury. was not aware i was sharing pain, just jokes. perhaps bad ones.
Does Weaselman think he has a political life after 2012? Even if he caucuses with the rethugs would he vote against cloture? His goose is cooked.
Pent up anger from 7+ years under the Bush Crime Family? Struggles on how the new prez should/will govern, etc?
Bush appointed Republicon hacks in the upper administration of NPR and hence their political coverage has leanded decidedly right.
Okay.
There’s no mercury in California. Ha, ha.
Joke away.
Sorry I was so thin skinned.
it’s eye liner tatoo’d.
the other stuff kept running.
I think that the Rahm pick might be a wise one. I’ve been reading around the toobz and it seems that he (Rahm) is quite the pit bull which may come in handy (if he can be kept on a tight leash)for when the congresscritters (repub) want to pull some shenangians.
We will see.
Well, hell. Let’s all take up kick boxing, eh?
ROFL
good idea. I’ve been working out mr’s punching bag as of late. Hope the Yoga works in channeling this ‘extra’ energy I have so that it won’t go negative
no problema…. i hear what you’re saying. we SHOULD savor this moment. I guess politicking is like picking a scab. You just can’t leave it alone. And everyone’s been SO vigilant for so long on these pages trying to head em off at the pass, often with some success. Most of all, for me anyway, this is a place (from my little farm in the boonies of Maine) where I can talk with like minded folks that are no where to be found around here. Even local dems are more DLC than progressive. Accustomed to such a low bar. This world of ideas here is a wonder, and I commend and thank everyone for the breadth of their thinking, everyone.
Good for you. The punching bag won’t take it personally.
I’ve only bought two gifts for the holidays.
* Guitar Hero
* Punching bag.
Reminder please to focus on the discussion, and not the character of fellow commenters.
A bowl of sweetened milk for the kitty.
*g*
prrrrrr
I love guitar hero.
awwwwwwww….
?????
I thought people here didn’t really like discrimination, but, as always, I could be wrong. Once again.
They have so “many other” type of ps2 games, I was trying to be preventively positive with that choice.
Plus, since there’s a lot of music in this house anyway.
(on sale at Big Lots for 50 bucks!)
We play that pretty much on the weekends to break up the monotony of board games
Rafi Eitan had access to the White House the last time this tool was working there, the murderer of Sabra&Shatilla.
Looks like I won’t have to look too hard to start disagreeing with the new president after all.
Anything that Boner doesn’t like must be the right choice.
