DFA’s objective is to use the insights of Modern Portfolio Theory to produce more efficient investment vehicles. The company’s board of directors includes Myron Scholes and Robert C. Merton, both of whom won the Nobel Prize for economics. The late Merton Miller, another Nobel laureate, was also on the board of directors.

my bold What kind of Moron brags about having Myron Scholes and Robert C. Merton on their board of Directors when the economy is in a tailspin?
Long Term Capital Managment

Goldman Sachs, AIG and Berkshire Hathaway offered then to buy out the fund’s partners for $250 million, to inject $3.75 billion and to operate LTCM within Goldman’s own trading division. The offer was rejected and the same day the Federal Reserve Bank of New York organized a bailout of $3.625 billion by the major creditors to avoid a wider collapse in the financial markets

The free market had a deal on the table from for what
Goldman Sachs, AIG and Berkshire Hathaway thought was a fair price but Greenspan decided to save them instead why?
Why didn’t Greenspan trust the market or is Unregulated Capitalism only a myth the GOP feeds the little people?

Dimensional Fund Advisors

http://www.dfaus.com/strategies/performance/

From their own web site lots of funds the lowest I could see YTD (year to date) was a 58.42% loss at its Emerging Market Small Cap fund.
The best fund they had was only down 10.37% that was Global 25/75(I)
I commend then for having relatively up to date numbers but with a loosing fund why attract attention?

Nov. 7 (Bloomberg) — Investor David Booth, who credits his success to the “life-changing” experience studying at the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business, donated $300 million to the school, the largest gift in the university’s history.

“The very first course I took at the University of Chicago was taught by Eugene Fama and it was a life-changing event for me,” Booth said in the statement. “I remember Professor Fama standing up the first day of class and saying `This is the most practical course you will ever take,’ and it turned out to be true. We built Dimensional Fund Advisors around his set of ideas.”

Fama, 69, who has been referred to as the father of modern finance, is best known for his theory that capital markets are so efficient they embody the collective wisdom of all buyers and sellers, according to the university. In 1980, Fama accepted Booth’s invitation to put his theories to work as a member of the management committee of Dimensional Fund Advisors. He thanked Booth today for what he called an incredible gift.

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/.....8;refer=us

My Bold The collective wisdom of the markets but what if all the players are addicted to making money? Trusting Cash Junkies with your money is like…well trusting Junkies. Its a bad idea!
The Chicago School is being taken care of by wingnut welfare.

Imagine what kind of consumer demand we could get if Detroit actually makes a more fuel efficient car than the Japanese do and that car was designed by Americans.
I wonder if a three wheel truck will sell? Maybe:)

Retailers reported the worst October sales figures since at least 1971, a grim harbinger for the holiday shopping season. The report sent stocks lower for a second straight day, handing the Dow Jones index its biggest two-day percentage loss since Wall Street’s October 1987 collapse.

http://www.latimes.com/busines.....9973.story

http://www.freep.com/article/2...../811070305

Though $25 billion in new quick loans from the government appears to be the most likely course, many other details remain to be hammered out, and even that amount could be insufficient, given the massive losses General Motors Corp. and Ford Motor Co. are expected to report this morning. Expectations of today’s news sent GM’s shares down 13.7% on Thursday.

I want to hear that the money is going to electric cars and hybrids. I want to hear that every car will be one.
I want to hear that GM and Ford are licensing the Atera and putting a bigger version into production with the magic of cheaper if you buy in bulk and mass production I think they can get the cost down.
That and Obama can give out tax breaks.

With the All Electric Aptera, it is very easy to figure out the mileage range. The mileage is determined by the distance you can drive, under normal circumstances, until the batteries are effectively drained. In the case of the first Aptera typ-1e, we have calculated the range to be about 120miles.

With the Plug-in Electric Hybrid version of the Aptera(typ-1h) the mileage of the vehicle is difficult to describe with one number. For example, the Typ-1h can drive 40 to 60 miles on electric power alone. Perhaps for such a trip, the engine may only be duty-cycled for a few seconds or minutes. This would produce a fantastic number, an incredible number that, though factually true, would have no useful context, i.e. it’s just a point on a graph.

An asymptotic decaying exponential is an accurate way to describe the fuel mileage of the Typ-1h. For example driving say, 50 miles, one might calculate a MPG number that’s 2 or 3 times higher, say, 1000 MPG. As battery energy is depleted, the frequency of the engine duty cycle is increased. More fuel is used at 75 miles, the MPG might be closer to 400 MPG. Again, we’re using battery energy mostly, but turning the engine on more and more. Just over 100 miles we’re just over 300 MPG, and just beyond 120 miles, we’re around 300 MPG.

http://www.aptera.com/details.php
