Can’t say I’m crying any tears to see Roy Blunt, DeLay’s old right hand hatchetman, stepping down as House Whip.  What’s more interesting is that it’s Cantor who seems most likely to take over for him.  Cantor, you may recall, is the fellow who claimed the first bailout vote failed because Republicans feelings were hurt by Nancy Pelosi’s supposedly partisan speech before the vote.  Republicans, as we all know, are very tender and have their feelings easily hurt, and think that hurt feelings are a good reason to vote against bills.  One might suspect that Cantor should have blamed Republican leadership, himself amongst them, for not being able to deliver the votes they promised.  I wonder if he’ll be any better as a Whip once he’s got the job officially.

Cantor himself voted for the bailout twice, then advised Republican House members who did vote for it, to apologize for doing so.  The level of cynicism is, well, not breathtaking, but certainly what we’ve come to expect from the House Republican leadership.
