Just kidding. Ever mindful of opportunities to get his mug in our faces, Our President took the opportunity of Obama’s victory to make a mostly gracious statement this morning, congratulating Obama/Biden, acknowledging the historic achievement, promising cooperation during the transition, and inviting the Obamas to the White House soon. He said all the right things.
This is one of the gracious things Presidents do when the torch is passed; we expect it. It’s usually seen as a sign of the stability of our democratic institutions.
I’m sure the text will be available (h/t Hugh) soon, but after all these years, I couldn’t help hearing it differently:
1. By accepting the results, he implied he probably wouldn’t let Cheney pull off a military coup. All of you tin-foil hatters can relax.
2. Said Americans should be proud of rejecting his Party’s nominee; shows common sense and maturity.
3. Claimed credit for how far the country has come in rejecting Rove’s racist tactics and accepting those dark people.
4. Urged unity because it will take a massive effort to clean up the mess he’s left us.
5. Invited the Obamas to the WH to meet Dick Cheney.
6. Refrained from attempting to apologize for trashing the country, because it would have put him into spasms.
7. Thanked America for letting him screw the country.
Reverend Wright will now give the benediction: "God*** Ameri…" NO! NO!, not that one! Amen.
PS: On MSNBC, one of the Serious Pundits added that George Bush was the first President who had to learn "how to govern in the post-911 world" [was someone else President?], and said, in his most serious tone, that the first lesson Obama would have to learn is how to do that. Just shoot me.

good news then
So do you think 911 is going to be their excuse for screwing up the country royally?
So what are those troops doing that were brought home and put in place to “protect” us?
Has the Decider acknowleged that he’s really messed things up for Jeb? He can’t be polling that high in the Bush family these days. I guess the plunder gathering from these eight years helps make this a little better for that family.
Scarecrow, there are still a lot of Very Serious People out there being Very Serious.
Why not? It’s worked so far! Especially as regards shredding the Bill of Rights.
I’m ready for a post post-9/11 world, myself!
It’s a good day. Really.
FunnyDiva
I take comfort in that every day.
Republicans will never take credit for their mistakes. They’ll wait until the day after the inauguration and then blame the whole mess on the Dems.
I suppose you didn’t get the memo;
the vice president is far more powerful then the president, he is part of both the administration and the legislation.
he is vice president of the administration which means he has control of anyone with a vice
he is president of the senate which means he is president of the senate
so it doesn’t matter one bit what the president says, the vice president is what matters
Poor little MSNBC Serious Pundit seems to be having a wee bit of trouble coping with the fact that we now live in a post 11-4 world ; )
Ha that is just what they would want us to think!:)
fixed that for ya

I wish someone would tell Bush that neither he nor Obama are the Commander in Chief of any American not in the armed forces. So there is no “our” there. As for the “people’s business” this is code and means Bush will continue to loot the country until Obama takes the oath.
Repiggies made mistakes?
Shirley, you jest!
You should work for Sarah Palin.
FDR was our first President who had to learn to govern post Pearl Harbor but WTF?
Advice from a ‘tinfoil’ to Obama..don’t take any food from the Bush/Chaney WH, stay out of small aircraft, stay out of public places where Bushies hang out.
I may be part of the conspiracy. Ever think of that?
That’s what they did for the first six years of Bush/Cheney but it finally started to wear thin. They have a new generation of Dems to scapegoat now.
Remember that, according to the Bush/You/Gonzales theory of the Unitary Executive, “if the President does it, it’s not illegal.”
Suppose we bomb Iran on January 15, 2009, and a state of emergency is declared, and Bush says he will remain in office. Giuliani tried it, so why not Bush? Will the Supreme Court stop him?
Impeach him, Nancy. Today is already too late.
I read the snark and saw the photo and I thought, Oh, this piece is by watertiger…
Heh.
Sorry, Scarecrow. And nice work with the snark.
As a double secret agent?
Asked to comment regarding the election of the first AA president, Barbara Bush remarked, “What progress, three and a half years ago they were living in the Astrodome.”
Just turned CNN for a second and they had a panel to discuss the transition and the anchor (can’t remember who) asked how different would Obama govern from Bush and they all laughed including Klein…..
and it was “but but” many President elects think that but end up not doing once they get to DeeCee….. funny thing…. this guy doesn’t know Obama….. If there is a will there will be a way….. period
someone needs to tell joe biden that too.
Glenn Greenwald: The single worst expression in American politics
Yeah, that whole C-in-C thing is badly confused. The founders wanted to make sure the civilian authority controlled the military, so that’s why the Prez is CinC. They never meant to elevate the assignment the way the Repubs and too many Dems have reframed it as the core function of the Presidency. It’s exactly the opposite effect of what they intended.
And thanks for the WH link. I’ve added it.
Given the solemnity of the moment, I asked egregious if we had a serious picture of Bush, and this is what she came up with.
Has Bush offered to sell Obama the Brush Ranch yet?
If I told you, I’d have to kill you.
Let the measurement of the drapes commence.
Wednesday, November 5. All things are new. Except for what is not. Urgh.
Here’s one of my favorite songs ever, ever, ever. Sung by the Kings Singers, it is titled You Are the New Day.
Lyrics not perfect for this day, but darn near — especially the latter verses.
Lieberman fears America ‘won’t survive’ Democratic majority. Personally, I’m hoping Lieberman’s reign won’t survive.
I’m amazed by the incredible amount of public interest in Sarah Palin. Good or bad, she’s become somewhat of a pop icon. People are dressing like her to be and/or mock her all at the same time.
For instance, I found this video on dressing like Palin:
http://www.mindbites.com/lesso…..arah-palin
Robert Novak has declared that Obama does not have a mandate. The very fact that he was elected seems like a mandate to me.
That’s just Novak parroting one of today’s Republic talking points.
So I’m assuming that this means Lieberman is
1) going to jump ship (before he’s kicked out) and officially join the Republicans
and
2) buy a hot tub so he can invite John McCain and Lindsey Graham over for parties where they can all be bitter together.
Does he still have a brain tumor or has his brain morphed into one?
Reid has an appointment with Rape Gurney Joe to discuss Joe’s chairmanship of Homeland Security Committee.
Apparently Senate Democrats aren’t happy with some of the things RGJ said about President-elect Obama in Minneapolis.
well, the second scenario was to quell bread-line riots.
Ummm, in 2004 the Dim Son got 50.7% of the vote, and couldn’t crack 300 EV. He said he’d won a mandate and was going to spend the political capital.
Obama gets 52% of the popular and 360+ EV and it’s not a mandate?
Or maybe Bush meant he had a Man Date and was going to sell The Capitol?
OT San Francisco City Attorney has announced that he plans to challenge the validity of Prop 8.
Here is a very good insider/gossipy article about the Obama and McCain campaigns. Lots of good stuff about Palin – a real hoot.
http://www.newsweek.com/id/167581
This is one of a couple of memes the right are floating out there. The wingnuts forget that Bush claimed a mandate in 2000 after losing the popular vote and stealing the electoral one.
The other big meme is that Obama “needs” to fill the major posts in his Cabinet with Republicans and generally continue Republican policies.
Yet another is that the country is tired of “partisanship”. Apparently this only happens when Democrats are in the majority.
Paper claims McCain has been making fun of Palin in private.
Republics, you must be so proud.
Was Jeff Gannon close by?
Novakula can kiss my narrow blue butt
130 Million + voted – smashing all existing records
the youth vote did show up – can’t wait to see those numbers
caught this at LAT this morning – 87% of registered SoCal voters voted – unbelievable !
Maybe Lieberman can become a plumber in his spare time.
As for Bush’s comments. I was ready to believe McCain’s concession last night was genuine as the old McCain who had at least some decency came back to the forefront after being suppressed by campaign McCain. But Bush?
I don’t buy it for a second.
They’re up to something.
On MSNBC shots of Sarah looking really teary. Dick Armey saying she was too handled. OMG, imagine if she wasn’t. Poor thing. Has to go home now. To where her integrity is not what it used to be. There was a link earlier to an Ankorage paper.
Are we surprised? No. I believe we have already speculated about this.
No glee here about it. It’s called what goes around, comes around.
(okay, truth be told, a little glee.)
Women have dressed like Sarah for a long time. She’s nothing new, that’s for sure.
McC’s speech last night was nice but he didn’t mean a word of it. He is a nasty little man to his core.
I believe mccain needed to take a swing at the highest office in the world to satisfy his childhood dream
I do not believe at this stage in his life he really wanted to be president but I do believe he wanted to run for president.
I believe that speech was genuine, I saw real anger when his mob acted up at the mention of obama
Where’s my schadenfreude. I was looking forward to a large shot of schadenfrede, but I seem to have misplaced the bottle. Oh well. Pleany of joy.
I hope she and Todd fade into the recesses of history.
Asked about the tension between her and McCain, she said oh, no, there wasn’t any. Well, not from me or my family, that’s for sure.
Things that make you go hmmmmmmmm.
Usually, people don’t have to get defensive about things that do no exist.
watertiger saves democracy!
A very faint footnote is what I’ve been wondering.
McCain is like Bush in having some serious Daddy issues. I believe he wanted to be President to show his father and grandfather that he could go further than them.
Perhaps Obama can use that. If he offers McCain SecDef, the men who are in his Dad and Grandad’s position would report to him. I don’t think that McCain’s ego would allow him to say, “No.”
And Janet Napolitano (a pretty good D) is Governor of Arizona…
I won’t feel safe (and neither should you) until Bush and Darth are marched off to war crimes trial and firmly in jail.
He and his people have evil intent and are true believers, for whom nothing is beyond consideration.
Except that McCain would be horrible at it, that’s a great idea.
Like I said, I’m willing to believe McCain’s decency is genuine, but I don’t buy it out of Bush for one second. Bush has to have something he’s trying to disguise.
Pelosi live on tv about working with Obama
mornin’ scarecrow!!
thanks for all of your and other pups’ hard work keeping up informed!!!
and you forgot one in your post–
8) bush said he would be letting him into the white house, that he wasn’t locking them out, they wouldn’t be burglars because he was inviting them in as guests real soon and he was going to be nice to them./s-kinda not snark cuz he did it.
did anyone post a results link for blue america candidates? know a fwe results, but am missing a few.
speaking of howie, here’s the latest from his youtube site—
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0i5iqOgV4w
I tend to agree that McCain’s speech was genuine – even though rather scripted. Had he taken that tone, and that level of common decency through the entire campaign, things might have turned out differently.
The look of anger and embarassment on his face when his supporters shouted “NO” and “NEVER” to his call for unity to face the issues now seemed entirely genuine.
i posted the wrong link–this one is from today and is his page in case you want to see some of the others from the campaign.
http://www.youtube.com/user/downwithtyranny1
Yeah.
Just all the criminal acts they have committed for the last eight years.
That’s all.
He’s playing nice hoping Obama will cut him some slack when the uncovered do-do hits the fan.
Blue America Races
13+ and counting !
mad love to ya and thanks for all your volunteering!
don’t it make my red state bluuuue :D
You can call Bush’s 8 years in office anything you want but it stretches all rational meanings of the word to point to this clusterf*ck administration as an example of ‘governing’ anything.
“Former president George W. Bush” has such a pleasing ring to it. Almost as pleasing as “Federal Penal System Inmate No. 587458″
ahhhhh sarah plain–a moment of silence please, i’m gonna miss her. you betcha! doncha know. (wink)

I think Charlie Crist is doing whatever he can to make sure Jeb’s career prospects are permanently ended. From what I understand, Charlie no doubt has a Jeb voodoo doll in which he insert pins.
I really wouldn’t mind if the good citizens of Alaska were to, say, impeach her.
Thanks Scarecrow. LMAO.
