The right is already furiously laying the groundwork for its post-election narratives should Barack Obama win today.
Fred Barnes in the WSJ this morning is talking about "the ‘card check’ proposal to end secret ballots in union elections." And Tom Troy of the Toledo Blade writes in an article on Arnold Schwarzenegger:
He also blasted Mr. Obama for his support of the Employee Free Choice Act, a union-backed measure that would abolish the secret ballot by which employees choose whether to be represented by a union.
No. Although Schwarzennegger is acting the stooge for union busters too, The Employee Free Choice Act does not "abolish secret ballot."
Obama was one of the Senate sponsors of the Employee Free Choice Act, and he has said that passing it will be one of the priorities of his administration. Lisa Vorderbrueggen of the Contra Costa Times gets it right in an article about a hit piece on George Miller:
The TV ad appears to be part of a national campaign by business interests to defeat a controversial bill called the Employee Free Choice Act. The act would add a second method under which employees could form a union.
The claim that the bill will "abolish secret ballots" is a lie, plain and simple. The Employee Free Choice Act, which is supported by almost every single Democrat and several Republicans in Congress, gives employees the choice to form unions. The Employee Free Choice Act is based on a simple democratic principle: if a majority of employees say they want a union, they should get a union.
And if the employees want to use a secret ballot, they can still do so. The bill does what its name says: it gives Employees a Free Choice to have a union, and takes away CEOs’ veto power on the matter.
We’re going to have to be vigilant about breaking this stuff up early. We’re all crossing our fingers that Obama wins today, but the right isn’t waiting until after the election to set the narratives with which it will try and obstruct his agenda.
Write to Tom Troy and politely ask that he correct his article at tomtroy@theblade.com.
Write to the WSJ and ask that Fred Barnes stop peddling lies at wsj.ltrs@wsj.com.

http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=W9KU3vik3mI
Did you really expect them to give him a honeymoon? There will be calls for impeachment beore his 100 days is up.
sadly surprising to see The Blade get it so wrong, (I’m emailing awready!) they usually adhere to reality based reportage
This is how movement conservatism ends.
Not with a bang, not with a whinper,
but with Fred Barnes complaining
to Morton Konracke about smelly old people crowding up his early voting site.
Fuck a bunch of “narratives”.
Obama has to pass the Fairness Doctrine to get those ticks off his back.
Joe Scar throwing the lies.
Watch for these (seen them about 6 times already):
- America is a center right country (lie)
- Obama must pick Republicans
- Anyone with insider “math”
CNN reporting voting problems here are some:
- NC poll place opened and HAD NO BALLOTS
- VA people in the driving rain for 2 hours – they filled out ballots and they will not go into the optical scan…so they have to put them in a box to dry out (nice way to get a few extra machines)
GOP lie number one the election was about Bush personally and not the Conservative Movement which *cough* still remains popular with the voters.
Jane,
This is a torch that I’ve seen carried by moderate Rs.
The “no secret ballot” concept is one that they believe is a non-starter.
I’ve looked on the site here using the search function to educate myself and bat down their bullshit hysterics, but haven’t had much success.
These tight are little rejoinders above, but I want backup in case the discussion goes deeper. Probably won’t with the Rs, never does.
Can you, or anyone here, point me to that post? I know its here somewhere, its got to be.
Good luck trying to impeach….gonna be about 55 people against that (and 4 – 5 not so sure) – and thats just the Dems.
You are right though in that last night some freak was on FOX talking about how Obama was using the Constitution as toilet paper…hello BUSHCO?
2nd lie America has plenty of money to keep the war going and for further WallStreet bailouts but nothing left over to rebuild America, help Detroit build hybrids, give Americans National Healthcare.
yup, that should be number three
number one;
NO TORTURE
number two
ALL SIGNING STATEMENTS ARE VOID
number three
EQUAL TIME FOR OPPOSING POINTS OF VIEW
hehe
watch clear channel try to put randi rhodes on immediatly after rush
that would be too funny

- Yes TCU: Bush and/or Republicans are not…conservatives (ever hear of personal responsibility…if it wasn’t you who the Fxck was throwing those Bush wins parties for the last 8 years?)
- next one….
Surely Nancy would take it off the table!
Back for while from duties at the polling station. Long line first thing but efficiently and quickly dealt with. Steady stream of people for the first two hours. Legal watchers in abundance. Even in this, supposedly, republican state of NH there were but two out of twenty or so sign holders that were for gooper candidates and NONE for the McPalin ticket… not a one.
Trying Bush for warcrimes would be Partisan politics questions of guilt cannot even be asked let alone decided in a court.
that hurts

- Yes TCU 2: There is no money left due to bankrupcy (sadly true, but why have that keep us from spending. I love the twisted thought that a few 100 bucks for food stamps or hay-penny raise in the min wage is terrible, but speding 15.5 billion on star wars in Poland is a must have).
It’s not about actually impeaching him. It’s about tying up Congress, the media, and Obama’s administration to keep him from accomplishing anything and creating a “where there’s smoke, there’s fire” atmosphere to effect the 2010 and 2012 elections.
Dan Rather on JoeScar saying that an early call from Indiana would tell the tale.
We’ve had early voting since October 6th, and those votes won’t even begin to be counted until after the polls close and all of today’s votes are counted.
So – there either isn’t going to be an early call, or if there is, it will be wrong.
amen brother !
Firedogs – especially those already pacing and biting your nails . . .
Do NOT listen to any of the EXIT POLLING bs that will be emanating from that box !!! They will do anything to extend the handy horserace theme and exit polls are the perfect fodder.
Here is Nate on KO Last Night telling you it’s worthless bullshit
Or watch me choose not to get Fox News or CNN (Lou Dobbs, Glen Beck) if I ever get the right to choose what cable channels I want to pay for.
now this is interesting;
here in my town in long island new york, there is only one presidential sign on a lawn in the entire neighborhood
just one
and that is for mccain
alarming, no?
my dad has always refused advertising politics on our property so we didn’t have a sign either
I happen to disagree about exit polls, they are the only insurance against election fraud
I have one fear about this election;
in my mind, there are no obama undecided…if they are undecided they are brain dead and mccain
that means the undecided goes to mccain like 90 percent or something, that makes for a big swing to mccain
Oh yea, that I fully agree. They started that a while back.
Don’t think it will sell as well as they think though (hopefully I guess).
Opposition to the Employee Free Choice Act on secret balloting grounds is an example of classic Republican branding. It’s rather like branding the estate tax which affects only the richest Americans as the “death tax” as if it would touch everyone. Or McCain’s defense of Bush’s tax cuts for the wealthy by accusing anyone opposed to them as “redistributionist”, a really clumsy term if ever there was one. What Republicans don’t like about the Employee Free Choice Act is that it would give more power to workers. To them this is blasphemy but they don’t have the stones to come right out and say they are anti-worker so they wrap up their attacks in the sanctity of the secret ballot. Given Bush’s and the Republicans’ general trashing of privacy rights in everything from abortion to domestic spying this is an especially hypocritical argument.
After all calling wag the dog on Clinton when he tried to go after terrorists in Somalia and Afganistan was really great for America. They really will do whatever it takes and damn America.
Look at Clinton, I bet they were find with all that happened after tying his hands since they came to power, stole, and transfered wealth and power.
Obama…time to purge the DOJ and give it the shock paddles to get it alive again…I suggest by umm I dunno investigating and getting the criminals & ensuring everyone can easily vote in 2010.
I don’t for a minute think there are any undecided voters. I believe that the election could have been held a month ago and the result would be the same as today. Don’t fret – I think McC lost more votes in the last 2 weeks than he gained.
Could be different… it might actually be FAR more exciting TV to have Obama winning early.
Talk about history, roll out the set pieces, talk about CABINET, the future, etc. Get the speeches in the 10 – 11:30pm range. What good is it to have a small percentage of political junkies watching at 2am as opposed to 100 million people watching at 10pm.
You get more attention if you say you are undecided.
Also you may not have looked at a damn bit of info (so some low volume stuff can hit you at the end).
oh shit.
Just went over to http://3bluedudes.com/ProjectDatabase.htm, which is where I pick up FiveThirtyEight, and I see that Karl Rove is predicting the same electoral breakdown as I did in my contest entry here.
go Karl?
ugh.
The Battle begins when the election ends.
Republicans don’t give up and neither should the Dems.
The Reps will fight to control the narrative, the story line, the framing of the issues—AND THEY NEED TO HAVE THEIR LIES EXPOSES AND THEIR ASSES THOROUGHLY KICKED.
….And then keep fighting, because they aren’t going to stop lying about the issues.
Hey…you have “the Math”.
You use an abacus?
i believe so
Charlie Cook on Charlie Rose last night was trying to push this line. On the eve of a historic defeat of the Republican Party, Cook was warning how important it was for Obama to reach out to those voters who still support a Republican agenda that an overwhelming majority of the rest of the country rejects. He suggested that Obama keep Gates at Defense and appoint Lugar Secretary of State. These are the two most important Cabinet posts.
Cook did with this with no sense of irony. In 2000, Bush claimed a mandate even though he lost the popular vote and his electoral vote victory was dubious. I don’t seem to remember any pundit, Cook included, warning then of the need to reach out to Democrats or appoint them to major Cabinet posts. Now with a major Democratic victory happening Cook is saying this means that Obama must keep large parts of the government in Republican hands. The headuptheirassedness of the media punditocracy continues.
…because they have been so proactive about everything, I am praying the Obama Campaign gives a big shout out to California and other Western States.
It is so very important those folks go to polls, not only to give him a mandate but to send Prop 8 back to the theocratic hell from whence it came
to jane and hugh:
boy, wish i had this article yesterday; we had a managers meeting for 2 hours of fearmongering about the new EFCA. ironically, it is precisely because of companies like mine, who refuse to negotiate out a contract in good faith with workers once a union has been voted on (ie- run out the clock for a year and the contract expires) that there is now a new provision which states thats a 3rd party will hammer out the terms of a contract if one side chooses to not play ball w/i 3-6 months.

OT and very important.
FLORIDA Voters, your polling places are open 7 AM to 7 PM today.
CNN and MSNBC stated incorrectly last night that polls are open
later than that.
NOT TRUE. I just verified the closing time again with our local
Elections Office. Polls will CLOSE at 7 PM. Please help spread
the word to FL votes. Thanks for your help.
FAIRNESS DOCTRINE
and physically display their SALARIES for all the sheeple to see
WHAT THEY ARE PAID FOR their LIES
bullkacky….good riddance to rubbish
CNN reporting that FLA rejecting ballots if people don’t fill out the ballot initiatives on the back side of the ballot!!!
make it VIRAL!!!!!!
and the shit begins
who is this black moron on MSGOP?
There was an OXg on site that showed something like only 2 Democrats for SecDef in the last 60+ years. Might be time for a change eh?
I think Obama might keep Gates on for a while (fear that he takes him out and then we get hit making him look like he put us at risk). I hope he does what he thinks is right and gives no critical spots to people that will be trying to do things he does not want.
Advisers yes talk to everyone – cabinet… go into the meeting and discuss the input with the inner circle.
from wikipedia it seems that it is the employers who have less rights to call for secret ballot:
my bolds.
sounds good to me. i think the current bill number is H.R.800, if anyone is curious to read it.
I’m doing my best. I sent a note to PFAW and True Majority as well as our
county Dems. office.
(One tiny area in FL panhandle is open later because of time zone overlap.
THAT has no relevance to the majority of voters here.)
It’s so sad that the Elections offce led me to believe they will do nothing
to correct the incorrect info
I thank you all for getting the correct time out there.
Thanks, Jane.
I just got your “under a rock” e-mail as I was reading your response comment.
Scared me for a second there, thought I was in trouble again getting called down by the teacher.
Yowww, flashback.
THANKS MSGOP ..GE/NBC

Didn’t do any good against election fraud in Ohio in 2004.
Yet.
Schumer up talking about how bi-partisan Obama’s gonna be.
stfu.
Mukasey, motherfucker!
i’d still put lugar in as under sec of state in charge of global nuclear disarmament (i know that’s not a popular position but it gets him out of the senate and working in the one area he’s not batshit crazy and lets obama claim to be nominating Rs if he feels the need to do that).
but please – no dennis ross at sec of state or we will be at war with iran for sure.
where?
I’ll miss all the FDL folks today. It will be a late night so I’ll catch up then.

Vote suppresion of any kind in woven into their DNA.
The best way to drive the stake in their hearts for good is by continuing get out the vote efforts between elections.
It’s like sunlight to a vampire.
Here’s the true narrative to focus on:

This is from an article written by:
Cynthia Boaz is assistant professor of political science at Sonoma State University. Ange-Marie Hancock is associate professor of political science at University of Southern California. David McCuan is associate professor of political science at Sonoma State University. Mark Crispin Miller is professor of media studies at New York University. ooh, that’s deep.
No wonder she’s scared shitless of her father.
thanks. i’m beginning to think that schumer’s job it so see that we get the same policies regardless of which party is elected (in congress or apparently for potus).
-Buckaroo Banzai
That’s an interesting insight. Thanks.
Clean up on aisle 60.
Vote suppression of any kind is woven into their DNA
C’mon over here, let’s hear you election experiences, past and present.
The problem was they only tied his hands after he had done their chores for them like getting GATT, NAFTA, and WTO passed for them and eviscerating welfare.
Hell, he didn’t even fight back after his impeachment by vetoing the repeal of Glass-Stegall.
Clinton tied his own hands by refusing to have investigations into the goings on of both Reagan admins and the crimes of Bush the First.
Suppression-secession….they like it because they go so well together and make them nostalgic for the good old days when people like us knew our places and I don’t just mean black people. As far as these miscreants are concerned any white person who supports workers’ rights is a terrorist because if workers are given rights they will interfere with the production process by trying to work less hours for more pay.
the right is so attuned to this battle that when i just copied, pasted and emailed jordan’s post through my gmail account to myself at my home email so i can forward it to some of my people later, this sponsored ad appeared just above my inbox.
Unions: The 7 Great Lies – LRIonline.com/7_Lies – Do you know them? Don’t let your employees vote before you see this.
i clicked on it and sure enough, it is anti-union propaganda and a do-it-yourself readiness campaign to fight organizers in your work place. bastards…
Hopefully Obama will make good on all his campaign promises. That’s in the future though. We should try and relax and have fun for now. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1exiyBYnJ00
