This result concludes reporting on the gubernatorial races.  Democrats held all contested governorships (Washington, Montana, West Virginia, North Carolina and New Hampshire) and picked up Missouri.  GOPs held Utah, Indiana, North Dakota, and Vermont.

10:27 From Pam Spaulding, via email, exciting LBGT news from her home state of North Carolina:

LGBT win here in NC : It looks like John Arrowood is going to cruise to a win for the Court of Public Appeals Judge. This would make him the first openly gay man to win a statewide elective office in NC. He had been appointed to a vacant post, so this was his first run. He leads over his opponent Bob Hunter, 65.69% to 34.31%, with 55% of the vote counted. 

10:26 Massachusetts appears to have decriminalized marijuana and abolished dog racing (via email) 

10:20 Montana governor Brian Schweitzer has been re-elected, per Markos and CNN. 

10:20 Per Markos, Jon Huntsman retains the Utah governorship, as expected. 

10:11 According to Rachel Maddow on MSNBC, both the Colorado and South Dakota "life" amendments failed.  Rachel called this a "reality check" about what really matters to American voters, even in states formerly thought to be favorable to such social issue referenda.

Per CNN, Massachusetts has rejected the Norquist-inspired proposal to eliminate the state income tax. 

Results (35% reporting) for Florida Amendment 2, which would enshrine discrimination against all unmarried couples in the state constitution and also prevent same-sex marriage:

61% Yes

39% No  

Kos and CNN have called the Missouri Governors race for the Democrat, Jay Nixon.  This is a pickup for Democrats, as Republican Governor Blunt chose not to stand for re-election, saying he "had accomplished" what he set out to do as Governor, in one term.  Stay tuned.

Early results (22% reporting) for Florida Amendment 2, which would enshrine discrimination against all unmarried couples in the state constitution and also prevent same-sex marriage:

Amendment 2 requires a 60% threshold to pass, and it looks like it’s close. 

Incumbent Democratic New Hampshire Governor John Lynch has, as expected, retained his seat. 

Kos has called West Virginia for the incumbent Democratic governor, Joe Manchin, but is reporting no results. 

Early returns from the North Carolina Governors race (0% precincts reporting, probably absentee ballots):

McCrory (R) 46% (147,761 votes)

Indiana Governor (8% precincts  reporting)

Winner: Daniels (R) 54%
