9:06 comment of the night: From Mr. Morals: "Some Bradley effect!"
McCain wins Arkansas.
9:03: Charlie can’t make the party. A snub?
FL Gov. Charlie Crist, "who had plans to attend" the John McCain camp gathering in St. Petersburg this p.m., "won’t attend after all." Pinellas Co. GOP Chair Tony DiMatteo "said Crist was called back to Tallahassee over ‘legal issues’ of some sort" (March, Tampa Tribune).
9:00 Obama wins Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota; McCain wins Dick’s Wyoming.
8:58: Alabama goes South.
Overheard in the corridors: "I’m probably breaking a rule here, but why the heck does MSNBC have nothing but Republican felons on as commentators? Ken Blackwell, Tom DeLay…"
8:50 update: Call the Supremes!!!
FOX’s Carl Cameron reports McCain’s camp has "filed a formal objection" to the nets calling PA for Obama. Shepard Smith: "Does this mean we are pulling the projection for Sen. Obama? We are not."

8:33 update: Big prize is Pennsylvania. We’re hearing there may be earth shaking news there soon. Stand by.
8:30 update: Obama wins New Hampshire!!
And this is rich: via Swampland, McCain Rovian loser Steve Schmidt blames everything and everyone but himself and his candidate.
8:23 update: Popular vote:
Obama

Florida 54% McCain, 46% Obama, with less than 1% in.
Note: Scarecrow here; taking over for Ian for next bit.
With any luck, the Presidential results should be very boring and the only questions how much the blowout and how much. To win McCain pretty much has to take at least one of Virginia and Florida. Conversely, if Obama takes either Virginia and Florida, plus PA, McCain’s pretty much sunk.
(7:14) Virginia 1 % reporting, 55% McCain, 44% Obama (CNN) [and CNN just beamed up Jessica Yellin. Move over Capt. Kirk.]
(7:08) Indiana, 4% Reporting, 50% McCain, 49 % Obama (CNN)
(7:05) Norah O’Donnel just reported that a senior republican conceded the NC senate race. Even more music for our ears: he said AA turnout constituted an Obama Tsunami.
Even more music for your ears: he said AA turnout constituted an Obama Tsunami.
(7:02) NBC projecting McCain Kentucky and Vermont for Obama – seems a bit early to me, but we’ll see.
(6:51) Kentucky at 50% McCain, 49% Obama, 2% reporting. (ABC)
(6:41) Tightening in Indiana, 51% Obama, 48% McCain (CNN)
(6:31 EST): Very first results are coming in. So few precincts reporting it’s essentially meaningless, but at this point KY is 62% McCain, 36% Obama (ABC)
CNN has Indiana at 55% Obama, 44% McCain, with 1% reporting
Note: We’ll be dividing coverage into a few threads and moving them to the top as news warrants.
Senate Results (Eli)
Central and Eastern House Results (Phoenix Woman)
Western House Results, Propositions and Other Results (Teddy)
Presidential Results (Ian)

Ian!
CTuttle!
I think this is going to be a very good night.
Ian – well, it’s going to be pretty exciting – I salute every single voter who stood in a line, rain or shine, and made the time…to vote.(there, my poem for today)
Sarah:
You asked what a community organizer does,I think you will be finding out very shortly.
OMFG … this is the strongest image I’ll have of this Election …
Ian !
A quick win by Obama would depress GOP turnout in the areas that have not voted yet. Even a 1/2 percent change in voting could help us.
Cool. You guys are so organized!
I want to hear church bells ring across the country.
We took it back without more blood
that they chose to shed.
real time results
the blog five thirty eight dot com
by the way, how did they come up with that name?
538 electoral votes, silly you.
I looked at the county returns for KY. McCain is doing especially well on the ones reported along the Ohio River (not Louisville, of course). It’s early, but the returns do not look good for Lundsford, which is the only election that matters in that state. IN looks very good.
Too early for real results. I particularly dislike numbers based on “1% reporting”. I do believe that they should refrain from reporting ANY results in a state until a statistically significant number of precincts report.
Something like 55% to 44% with 1% reporting is the same as 30% to 60%, 50% to 50%, etc. Totally meaningless.
There’s 538 electoral college votes…! ;-)
Fineman says Pennsylvanian blacks are turning out in a huge way over the Reverand Wright 527s.
got it
OH YES,like after WW2 VEDAY
me so silly
Well, don’t forget, KY has 120 counties total and the ones along the Ohio are just a sub-set. Lunsford should do quite well in the eastern part of the state plus Lexington and Louisville.
Slap her ignorant ass back to Wasilla!!!!!!!!!!!
[Mod Note; as noted below, that’s figuratively]
We earned them
Ring those bells
FIRE IT UP!
538 electoral college votes
(figuratively, of course)
ima Capricorn too
unfortuately, indiana has evened out, now 50-49% obama/mcmuffin.
nasty witch
According to the 96 year-old Willis, her twin sister, Roberta McCain, the candidate’s mother, has become resigned to her son’s electoral fate.
“She really doesn’t care,” Willis said of her 96-year old twin sister, who has campaigned for her son and recorded TV ads with him. “‘Let these bastards get in,’ she says, ‘I don’t give a damn anymore. If these people want to buy votes and get their people in office, let them suffer for it in the way of high taxes.
With 2% reporting, according to CNN, I’m not about to start hyperventilating.
Wow, Kentucky has narrowed significantly…!
Part of Indiana closes at 7 et. Does anyone know if that area is democratic or republican?
oxygen here sta,im the nervous type”g”
me no likey that word tightening when obama is ahead
Wow. Norah is reporting that republican officials in NC are saying Dole will lose. If she does it will be the first time since 1952!
OBAMA TSUNAMI……………..works for me
I’d say both. The southwestern corner of the state (central time zone) I’m guessing is a heavy R area while the northwestern corner (also central time zone) would probably be more D.
But that’s strictly a SWAG
Kentucky and Indiana are both quick reporters. We should have them by 7:30.
Here’s some oxygen, a soothing aromatherapy candle, some chocolate, and the beverage of your choice. Deep cleansing breaths, now… We’re going to be here for a while!
I have been hyperventilating all day
I did not know a person could manufacture this much adrenalyn, I have been on a rush since about 5 this morning
I have a tension headache to go with the over tiredness in the bones
the drinking game compliments of sfgate
However the counties across from Louisville are more Democratic.
yes thank you,ive been waitingto exhale for 8 years
True but they’re Eastern time zone and already closed.
I’ve been holding something under my breath so that the republicans wouldn’t see it and use it
I am womdering how they could have missed the under their nose phrase
“he will be an obamination”
now that it’s over I can let that one out

Me? I’ve been being swept with waves of emotion, a combination of pride, relief, tiredness and hope. Today’s the 100th anniversary of my mother’s birth, and she would be so proud of her country this evening…
MSNBC is projecting McCain in KY, Obama in Vermont…
I’ve got green tea, salami, cream cheese, and a paper bag here!
that olympic music is getting to me…
yea me too
–too early to call…
Back from six hours of GOTV knocking on doors……wat’d I miss? *G*
County I’m currently living in SENC (but not voting in) reportedly had 50% of votes via absentee ballots before polls opened this morning. Red area (that’s the bad news) but pretty amazing. Rain held off for us today but sounds like Raleigh/Durham got hit with it pretty good.
Dole *will* go down!!!
NBC just reported Kentucky to McCain and Vermont to Obama.
This will probably be the only Electoral college lead for McCain tonight.
yes
is it over yet?
i have add
she’s with you right now marion, tell her the boys and girls from the lake say hello

I want to see Graham, McCain & HoJo in the Senate, getting smacked around by a Dem POTUS and his peeps …
Amy is going on the air at 8 eastern so I’m gonna confine myself to Democracy Now!’s coverage. I do not want to listen to network pundits for 1 second tonight.

STFU PAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Obama back in the lead in IN, but could change in 5 minutes.
Monster
I don’t have cable.
What is more important is the actual voter #s.
The turnout has been huge and ‘varied’, there are less than 1500 votes between Mc and Barack with only 10% counted in Kentucky! No insult meant but Barack is ‘Black’ and it is still that close.. Very cool. Ans that is just one state..
I’ve been making great use of my “mute” button!

Ian, we are so damned lucky to have you here. I can’t begin to tell you how grateful I am to have learned so much from you.
You are astounding and I cannot believe how much I continue to learn without paying tuition someplace!

damn it, mccain won a state!
it was kentucky, I don’t think anyone thought we had a good chance there
I was hoping for teh shutout
not really but still
I’m expecting them to call Indiana for McCain at any minute. I’m concerned about Virginia, though.
FL, on the other hand, is solidly for Obama. But, only 2% reporting.
Typically, Gary comes in late, so if Obama’s within 4% in IN, the turnaround from Gary can be dramatic.
That is still with only a low % counted, they’re projecting/guessing..The overal # are too close to call, it will be a long night, but a lot of folks stood up today and that is really good for us..
Vigo County, a bellweather for Indiana shows Obama up 57%-42%, with 80% reporting.
NYT reporting Obama 56% McCain 43% in Florida.
http://www.nytimes.com/
Go, O!
NPR is projecting Obama win in Pennsylvania. Yes!
RRRAAAWWW!!!1111
Nice Polite Republicans!
Huh?
The BBC has it at 103 Obama 34 McLoser. I don’t think they don’t have to worry about calling 2 early before other polls close.
So have NBC and ABC.

YES?
that will be a HUGE rebuke of rove tactics…HUGE
is this a final?
Obama’s grandmother’s absentee ballot WILL be counted.
yeah!
TPM’s got Obama at 78 electoral votes, and McCain at 34.
Orange County looking good for Obama in FL. BBC guy says it’s a good sign for Obama.
Liddy really should have stayed home after Bob got that little blue pill.
I think so…saying “calling it” Didn’t seem to be a question.
yay cindy!
I wonder where ol’ Sixty Grit is? I remember watching her when Clinton won in 92, she had such a bitter look on her face!! I mean even more bitter than usual!! I loved it!!!!!
YEAH!
The BBC is running very good real time election coverage. They are ahead of CNN.
dole history! another one down …
and yes, obama’s grandmother’s ballot had damn well be counted!
O please…I wonder where she will run next? ;)
I am surprised with that, I would have thought absantee is not a vote it’s a promise to vote
interesting
I agree. They don’t have to worry about it impacting the results as much I believe
Ouch. The gag reflex kicks in.
though it would be poignient if the vote didn’t count, I could see why they might want to make it void
tiz great news it’s counted
More from the Corner:
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am hoping they are willing to call foul if the count doesn’t match exit polls
Come January, it will be the first time in a longgggggggg time that there will not be a Bush or Dole holding federal office. Great!
OMG!! Suzanne, pass the brain bleach!!!!!!
you went in too?
we are brave souls you and I
Excellent !
I’m surprised by the VA numbers … is it an artifact of county reporting order?
I’m really enjoying their misery. Couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch of people.
msnbc has it 104 electoramas to 34 electorains
No worries, it’s going to be a landslide.
then we can co-mizerate with those poor chaps
Early TX results for Obama..small sample but that’s amazing. Plus, the comment that a lot of straight Democratic voting. Can feel good for alittle while.
I’m really enjoying their misery. Couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch of
peopleasshats.
fixed it for ya. No charge!
FunnyD
well then you are gonna love this;
these morons actually believed a person who would vote for Clinton might vote for another 4 years of bush
ARE THEY TOTALLY INSANE?
don’t answer the question, it is rhetorical
Ohio Secretary of State, Jennifer Brunner, will withhold announcing the winner until everyone in the state has voted.
CBS calling PA for Obama
Thanks, Diva.
Almost no path to victory without PA for McGone
which is fair … holding a state till people get thru the lines seems right …
im getting a headache from all the thread switching
Wow– Tweety’s going after that Puke asshole.
won’t stop the networks…unless she’s not reporting any results at all…
ooh, play-by-play, please!
still at work…
which is what I heard she was doing: holding all results until voting is complete. So, networks can only work from exit polls …
and BBC saying FL is O/M 53/47 … right direction
oh please yes
Tweety said “Did you go too far with the name calling? Do you think Obama’s a socialist?”
The guy mumbled something about being concerned about Obama’s health care.
for which the accepted smear is “socialized medicine.”
Duh.
Who is the PUke?
Several networks are calling PA for Obama, but based on exit polling. I’m not ready to buy into that yet.
This is the same fool that claimed McShame invented the blackberry
mccain won something, there are now 43 electorains vs 103 electoramas
Tweety is pretty sure Penn went for Obama … that’s good enough fer me …
I like that kind of suspense!
oklahoma went to mccain
He won Arkansas, now Alabama, up to 54
I didn’t catch his name, but foothillsmike seems to know.
let the real americans go for mcsame …
the rest of fake america can go for the socialist ;)
BTW, there are a couple of new threads going upstairs.
the corner is not having a good day;
they don’t know dole lost already..quaint
Holtz Eakin or something like that
npr claims ohio will start reporting results now …
Phil Grahms frontman aka McShames econ guy
I do not see a bradley effect, does anyone see a bradley effect?
me no thinky anyhting is lost to bradley effect this election, not yet anyway
Love you guys, but my ADD cannot keep up with all this media.
Thanks to the Ladies and gents of the lake for leading all the firepups through the ring of fire.
We are here now. Much work to do.
Where’s Norske?
Does npr stand for no possible resposibility
nate sez va is better for O than the early results look …
Yes – all the McCain stuff is in central and western VA – the eastern stuff that all went for Webb in 2006 has yet to report.
At 538 Nate thinks Florida and Indiana look better for Obama than Virginia.
The BBC just said the Republican strongholds have come in and they don’t think the big numbers are there to carry the state.
Well they had a Republican startegist from the rural areas in VA that said that.
it’d be great to get va … but looks like we’ll win in any case …
and tx early returns are barely going for mccain. hard to believe old creepy guy will lose there, but would be great if he barely won
christy is sharing upstairs
http://firedoglake.com/2008/11…..for-obama/
CBS saying the independents did not like Palin…Really?
And they liked McCain?
I don’t THINK so!
nate made a great point on air american today
he said the mccain camp had absolutely no volunteers till palin came on board
it was a no win thing for him, nobody in the party thinks they could have gotten volunteers with any other vp pick
I disagree but there it is
If there was going to be one, we would have seen it in Pennsylvania, and we didn’t. Now Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, that’s a different story.
New Mexico = Obama
Just caught a glimpse of Jane on BBCAmerica. And of course, she was blogging.
these are psychotic threading
good news from MA: ballot question #1 on ending the state income tax is loosing badly – boston globe has declared for “no”
with virginia for obama, i’ll sleep like a baby tonight. welcome back america. it’s about time.
McFool in TX; no surprise.
at least it’s making me feel a little crazier than usual.
I’m not exactly sure what I’m waiting to see that will cause me to break out the champagne.
Per Nate at 538, Obama’s exit polls in the primary averaged about 7% higher than he actually did.
Exit polls in VA, OH and MO have him up about 7%, in NC 6% and IN 5%. FL’s exit polling is breakeven.
Exit polls are worthless, really, but generally speaking, Obama’s pretty close to a win in those 5 states but not FL. He only needs one of them to win. And we have no exit polls yet for CO, NV, MT and ND.
So the odds are very good, but we need one more to breathe that big sigh of relief.
Jane reporting on North Carolina right now on BBCAmerica.
Why does MSNBC have no one but Republican felons as commentators?
i dont know who is on first…”G”
Jane up on BBC talking about Hagan winning!
GO JANE
ABC McConnell wins in Kentucky
Didn’t see one Republicon on the streets when I was out canvassing all day. No literature or door hangers. There was a rumor that Republicons were in the process of hiring children from the state orphanage to hit the streets for them. They were even willing to pay minimum wage.
omg
i’m soooooo all over the tooobze.
Ian!
lovin the photooooz.
you doin’ those your OWN self?
my 208 is to you
The repub on BBC sitting with Jane just said her inside source at the McCAin campaign just said Florida is lost
faith girlfriend, faith.
chocolate here. don’t know what i’m waiting for though.
did they call NY?
lol.
This is the prick that will lead the efforts to de-legitimatize Obama.
WHo is sitting next to Jane?
I didn’t get her name.
faith, girlfriend, faith
Have we heard on the Franken race?
She looks great on the Beeb…! Arkansas goes to McInsane, not a big surprise there, eh?
OH..
are they streaming
Why does the Beeb have Mr Mustache Bolten on…?
No the good people of Arkansas can get back to those things that really matter to them. Namely, inbreeding.
ABC called it for Obama. The polls closed there only about 20 minutes ago.
Yep…!
NY was a foregone conclusion.
‘Cuz Yosemite Sam was booked?
We need a LOT more. So far, NO states have flipped.
So has CNN, CBS and MSNBC.
Unfortunately, no… no surprise. We also have a anti adoption initiative… the fundies were targeting anti gay adoptions but the wording will make it very difficult for any single person (even family members) to adopt. And I think it will pass.
Ohio = Obamamamama
Are we here now?
Bill Bennett, on this possibly being a big night for Obama: “Some Bradley effect, huh? The country’s grown up. Let’s just accept that” (CNN).
No argument there.
ohio!
Has the music stopped?
Can Bush pull Obama’s Secret Service protection?
Man, I’ve dropped 10 pounds running around …
Obama takes Ohio!!!!!
Jeebus, is Bolton the world’s biggest asshole or what?
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO – HIO !
FOX MSNBC call Ohio for Obama!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Right after Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfie … (apologies if I forgot others)
If that’s true, this election is OVAH!
And boy oh boy is it going to be time for some payback. Get the hearings started, get Bush, Cheney, Rove, Delay, Dole, all those sub-human pieces of shit on the perp-walk.
I would love nohting more than for theDems to spend the next three years with their figurative boot-heels on the necks of the ‘pukes, passing legislation the evangelicals hate, appointing enough Supremes to make sure RvW is the law of the land for the rest of my lifetime.
Yeah, we gotta flip Florida, if we do that, we win.
How come nobody cites Faux Spew’s results? The Beeb made a remark that they’re calling everything quickly before anybody else… ;-)
MSNBC calls Ohio for Obama.
Thanks
Lotsa competition for that award, though he’s certainly in the running. Second only to Sarah for making fun of, IMO.
Bolton is Bill Bennet’s asshole.
Include W, but he is always the bottom of the class.
Obama wins N. Mexico!!!!!
Joe Scar is saying the thread is broke…! Bwhahaha…!
ABC Ohio to Obama Big, big one after Pennsylvania.
A solid victory. Not a blowout. But solid is perhaps better. Don’t want Ds to get bloated heads this early.
Obama is at 174, add in the west coast Ca, Or & Wa. — 73 total.
That leaves 23 to 270.
Oh wait, this just in; MSNBC just gave Obama Ohio!
Game over!
Even Joe Scar said that.
O happy day!
DIng Ding Ding!!!!
Shows what can be done if the Rs aren’t close enough to cheat.
JoeScar: The thread is broken
{{{{{{{{{ Drink }}}}}}}}}}
MA: question 2 (to decriminalize marijuana) looks like it might pass (not declared yet, but running 2-1 for).
Wow! Arizona too close to call.
Heh heh, the Bolton question was meant rhetorically…
Ready for that Martini now ?
So with Ohio and Pennsylvania going to Obama that’s the race. Obama will be our next President.
I saw a higher #, 195, I think.
Looks like the good citizens of Michigan have defeated the Catholic Church and the fundies in allowing stem cell research of embryos to be discarded for finding cures to disease and suffering.
Obama has also brought white men back to the Dems…”This country has come far”
I haven’t finished my bottle of wine yet. *g* Somehow I’m off to a slow start tonight. Perhaps it’s because insanity is now slowly leaving the country & have less reason to drown my sorrows.
McCain wins Louisiana and West Virginia. Doesn’t matter. Obama wins.
Any concerns about Karl Rove’s math?
Is it possible that if this country wants to be unified…that some of the mean idiots will be almost silenced?
Yippee hooray. Anti-science has been one of the most distressing things for me in the past 8 years. I was a chemistry major undergrad.
Our county had a ballot measure to have the cops treat it as the lowest priority, below traffic violations even, and, to stop the marijuana eradication program which is done by helicopters…!
CBS now also calls New Mexico for Obama.
any florida news?
They can begin to be silenced with the re-imposition of the “Fairness Doctrine” and the use of Taft-Hartley to break up the media corporate monopolies.
Waaaay ahead of you good buddy!
will hope for your ballot measure too then.
p.s. how are you doing CT?
I’m no scientist but have seen my fair share of pain and suffering. Yipppeee indeed.
boston globe has called question 2. passed. possession of a small amount of marijuana will now mean a $100 fine – and that’s it.
Florida 51/48 for Obama with 56% of the vote in. No winner declared.
Dominici’s seat goes to Udall!
MA has been a leading state on many social matters. Good on you.
Shucks. McConnell projected winner. Well, I didn’t really think Ds could do it.
The most moving moments during my GOTV efforts in Michigan was knocking on the door of black families making sure they had been to the polls. It was a fantastic feeling knowing that America was on the brink of a truly historical moment and we were indeed one people.
thanks! pulling for FL in support of a young friend.
Stick a fork in it. This election is done. Now we can relax and enjoy the rest of the evening. The question now is how much Obama wins by.
McCain wins Texas (ABC) up to 124 EV
Coleman/Franken too early to call. Selise & I are rooting for Franken so watching hearings is not so onerous.
Could be better but I’m enjoying what I’m seeing tonite…! ;-)
Va. and Indiana looking up for Obama; not being called yet.
Hawaii???
McConnel will be one of the Republicons intent on blocking any efforts of the Obama administration. Hope Obama uses the bully pulpit to embarass and humiliate those that would stand in the way of the American people moving forward.
and va is back to pretty much 50/50 per nyt. fake virginia counties just reporting …
besides being just wrong – it makes no sense to lock people up for stupid shit when it costs so much to keep a person in prison and we’re having to close schools because of we don’t have the money too keep them open.
Arizona looking good for Obama…O my.
Icing on the cake!!!!!!!!!!!
Obama seems genuinely good at deflecting bad. I think that there’s gonna be an effort of the cornered wounded Rs to try to derail the D government. It’ll be Obama centered because he’s the easiest target. One of many incredible tests he will face.
They’ll have to begin to empty the prisons to make way for the Republicons that will be turning in their pin stripes for pen stripes.
hoping for some good luck to come your way.
Niece who just spent the last 3 days with me is big into restorative justice, and she’s OCD, so I’ve OD’d on the subject for now. But yes.

Agreed. The people will have to cover his back anyway we can.
Holtz-Blackberry-Eakin, and you never heard of him! He’s been more fun than a barrel full of monkeys.
so long as he doesn’t try to become a Very Serious Person. i want the guy who wrote “rush limbaugh is a big fat idiot”
And he is saying it’s a very tight race….
LOL!
Hard to imagine Franken as a Very Serious Person. His Lying Liars book was completely researched, but also very funny. That’s what I expect if he gets to DC.
Nearly the best part for me – Shooter will be the one to swear him in.
Way cool. McCain family is in the Barry Goldwater (i.e., Loser) Suite at the hotel in Phoenix.
Is that right? No irony there!
he had all those seminar students he put to work. almost as funny as the book itself.
teddy has a new thread.
The President of the Senate swears in all the new Senators.
