Some of us don’t have an option to take our assets out of the country. For most of us, our biggest assets are our homes (I can’t take that out of the country), my retirement account (not under my control, and no way I can get it under my control), my social security account (way out of my control), and my deferred compensation retirement account (I can control that one. It’s also the smallest or second smallest of the four.)

Obama looks relieved more than anything.

If anyone doubts America is a place where all things are possible, tonight is your answer.

It’s the answer told by lines stretching around schools and churches. By people who waited three hours, four hours. Because this time things must be different, that this time their voice could make the difference. Americans sent a message to the world, we have never been a collection of red and blue states. We are and have always been the United States of America.

It is the answer to those who have been cynical about what we could achieve. It’s been a long time coming, but change has come to America.

A little bit earlier I received an extraordinarily gracious call from Sen McCain. He has fought for the country that he loves, enduring sacrifices we can scarcely imagine. We are better off for his service, looking forward to working with them to renew the Nation’s progress in the months ahead.

Thanks Vice President Elect Joe Biden. Thanks Michelle, the rock of the family, the love of his life. Tells daughters they’ve earned the new puppy coming to the White House. Thanks his grandmother and family, acknowledges debt to them.

The victory truly belongs to you (meaning us). I was never the likeliest candidate for this office. It was built by working men and women who gave $5, 10, 20 for the cause. It grew strength from millions who volunteered and organized. Who proved that government of the people, by the people and for the people has not perished from the face of this earth.

I know you didn’t do this for me. We know the challenges tomorrow brings are the greatest of our lives. Two wars, a planet in peril, and the worst economic crisis in a century.

There are schools to build, threats to meet, etc. I have never been more hopeful than I am tonight that we will get there. Crowd chants, Yes We Can. There will be false starts and setbacks. Many won’t agree with every decision I make. I will always be honest about the challenges we face, especially when we disagree.

What began 21 months ago in the depths of winter cannot end this autumn night. It is the chance to make the change we seek. It can’t happen without you, without a spirit of sacrifice. We must look out no only for ourselves, we must look out for each other.

We rise or fall as one people. Don’t fall back on the pettiness of partisanship. Invokes Lincoln. While we have won a great victory tonight, we do so with a sense of humility and a desire to heal the divides. Quotes Lincoln again.

Says to opponents: I may have won your vote tonight, but I hear your voices, I heed your vote. I am your president too.

To the world: our stories are singular, but our destinies are shared. To those who would tear the world down, we will defeat you. To those who seek peace and security, we support you. Our power derives from our ideals.

I have a difficult time believing that she really thought she and the geezer would win this thing.

McCain by comparison appeared to be more relieved than anything.

Palin, Mittens Romney & snakehandler Huckabee are all plotting for the nomination in 2012. The Lizard Brains will not tolerate for their to be peace, kindness or tolerance in this country. The GOoPers are now an all-Southern lynching party. They’ve still got Faux News and Wall St. behind them, & can (& will) do much damage in the coming years.

Let’s hope Obama doesn’t disappoint us too much and actually embraces CHANGE!
