Very gracious speech overall. Took the responsibility for the loss on himself. Shut down people who booed Obama. Seriously, this actually makes me sad. This is the man I thought he was, that he proved himself not to be under fire.
Thanks Arizona. Screams of USA, USA, USA.
Americans gave him a fair hearing. Again, very gracious. But the crowd is booing. He shuts them down. Seriously, where was this man during the election?
Big cheers for Palin. Most reaction other than when he took responsibility.
Takes responsibility for the failure, his crowd won’t accept it. As usual in cases like this, if McCain had acted and talked like this during the election, he would have done much better.
Being very gracious.
A great thing for African Americans.
Obama is a good man. His grandmother must be proud.
Urging Americans to support Obama.
Doing the "we’re all Americans" thing.

Poor McCain…
333 baby!
Some graciousness from McCain on Obama’s grandmother
From below:
McCain is being quite gracious.
McCain’s supporters are being…not so gracious.
all year long!
VERY good speech by McCain. If he had sounded like this during the campaign, he might have won.
His supporters are a tad assholish — much booing.
Sheesh, what a bad crowd. Good on John, though.
McCain is being gracious but that does not excuse the loathsome campaign he ran.
wonder who wrote this speech.
Snoopy dance!!
Surprisingly gracious of McCain.
McCain is better than his crowd.
McCain has no center… he is an empty suit that spews words.
Huh. this is the part where he tries to clean up his image….again. Been there, done that. This time, the gutter muck won’t wash off so easily.
If McCain had been this genuine with his campaign, this would have been a much closer contest.
I am happy I won’t have to spend 4 years listening to Palin.
Only Alaska, Nevada, Montana, Missouri, Indiana, and North Carolina outstanding.
Was Sarah just booed at McCain’s concession?
He’s not genuine… he doesn’t mean a word he says.
but this is important for his supporters to hear. i hope palin does something similar.
buh-bye Sarah.
North to Alaska!
You may leave now.
If he had been this nice it would have been closer. The negativity and bigotry turned people off!
Palin looks like a moose in the headlights.
Sorry I am not so gracious.
Doesn’t matter, the important thing is he won’t run for president again.
Obama up in Montana by 9. That could turn around as the Demoratic urban areas report early and the hardcore Repug rural areas do not generally come in for another hour or two.
A total mandate for socialism!!!! LOL The first thing we do, let’s pass a law requiring all Rethugs to SHUT THE FUCK UP until they can win an election. LMAO
A great day.
I thought exactly the same. The McCain tonight is what he needed to be during the race. Wierd, to say the least, that he has this in him but only now…..
That crowd is loathsome.
He never has.
Oooo, what an ugly crowd.
Anyone notice how white the audience is at the Biltmore as compared to Grant Park?
Is McC using prompters?
Palin is already looking for fatcats in the audience. Whether or not they’ll answer her phone calls tomorrow is another story.
McCain is being classy…Palin less so, her grimaces are pretty transparent.
I agree; he’s sounding like a reasonable person.
His supporters…never mind.
Caribou gone.
Good night John.
Does Palin get up now and announce her bid for 2012?
Yeah, but he taught them all they know! He’s been mean-spirited and considered personal attacks even as his opposition pretty much stuck to attacks based on policy. Wonder if he or his supporters will figure out that’s largely why Obama won!
Nice job. He was even nice to Sarah.
hell ya! great concession!
Agreed. Very good concession speech.
McCain’s “party” is invitation only. Obama’s is open to the public. Says all you need to know.
Ok Sarah, you give those clothes back now.
There is a welcome sight, watching Sarah Palin walk off the stage, hopefully forever.
can’t agree on the genuine part. but agree that this is how he should have run his campaign.
however, absent the financial crisis, i think it would have been much closer.
Yup He did do that. Glad I am not stuck in Scottsdale tonight.
Lieberman… ? Think he’ll be giving McCain a consolatory, senatorial reach-around tonight back at the Biltmore?
MSNBC quoting an anonymous rethug at the Biltmore after the concession: “I feel like doom is coming.”
Yep. Doom, baby. Rethugs’ doom.
Rep. John Lewis being gracious to McCain.
It’s only a short distance from Lieberman’s primary residence, no reach around required…
lol, dam commie synic ;)
knowing he can do this makes his choice to do the opposite really small…..
A crowd is forming outside the White House…
Honestly, I never thought that this would be decided by 11:00!
any numbers on 8 yet?
Palin’s eyes were very wet. And McCain’s “hug” was quite perfunctory. Yep. He won’t miss her.
Come to take it back?
Surprisingly good speech by McCain.
Loved the wide swath of people of color in the audience, though. I’ve never seen so many gradations of white in my life. ;)
If McCain had acted during the campaign like he did during his concession speech, he might have pulled off a win.
Both of the anchors on Atlanta’s NBC station are fighting tears.
Conservativism, Inc. has filed for bankruptcy!
Polls only been closed for half an hour, still holding my breath on that one.
He turned himself over to handlers just like Kerry.
ca sec of state election results site
IaN, I am with you, where was that man during the campaign
this was the first time I saw him comfortable, believing what he was saying
he was also calm, I have never seen a less poignient concession, he did not look like he minded losing at all, it looks like he is relieved
good job for him
Or perhaps to just serve notice that the people have won.
Rudy the Ghoul? – eat it!
Pat Buchanan? – eat it!
JoeScar, Ron Christie, Joe Watkins, Mika, Nanacy Pfotenphony – eat it!
Doug Holtz-Eakin? – you can stick around. I always appreciate a good laugh.
His failure to effectively lead his campaign didn’t inspire confidence in his ability to lead the country.
He doesn’t want to go down as the guy who cost America in lots of ways. As bmaz says, it’s always all about McCain.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!
It’s time to Celebrate !
Christie in particular.
Come to take it back?
kinda looks like it.
pandemonium at the gates…..
Faux News? File for moral bankruptcy, bitches, your time is over!
Nevada for Obama.
Looking at the electoral map, you can see that the combination of the Northeast, Midwest, and West Coast was overwhelming. But what is also interesting is the peeling off of critical states in both the Republican strongholds of the West (Colorado and New Mexico) and the South (Florida and Virginia). Demographics would suggest that in the future both Arizona and Texas could be at risk for the Republicans in the West and North Carolina in the South. This assumes of course that the Democrats don’t screw up their electoral advantage the way the Republicans did theirs. For now, I think that it is very important for Obama to consolidate Democratic gains in the Midwest which has really come back strongly for them. If Obama pays attention to the needs of this region, he can create a foundation for a generational electoral shift to the Democrats.
Good thing they’re not at the Naval Observatory. Wouldn’t want the Dickster to release the hounds.
From the Corner, Mark R. Levin:
Stay classy, Mark.
Oh, I agree– if he’d acted like that earlier, this would be a much longer night than it’s been. I am just so, so glad he’s lost though. Palin gives me apoplexy.
I’m glad though that he made it clear it’s time to pull together. Given the hate he and Palin have tolerated out on the campaign trail, that was not healthy for the country…
ROFL!
Unfortunately not. Having Dems in power will recharge the wingnut batteries.
And that was just the hair… /snark
ORally & Co will be lickin’ their chops at the thought of tearing Barack down for the next 4 years …
Yeah but because of their stupidity they’ll be largely ineffective.
Indiana – Obama up by 3-tenths of a point, with 96.3% reporting.
Still *nothing* from Richmond, Indiana. That will probably decide it, and I’m expecting it to be red – just not sure by how much….
When your grandchildren ask what were the momentous things you remember this night will be right up there.
Oh, and for a little humor, check this out… Bye Sarah
I heard that. To what purpose?
We’ll turn it blue in 4 years …
nate predicted 348 electoral, we are 348 with a few pink left and one blue, looks like he has this down pat
McCain is a senile, boorish, disingenuous, and opportunistic creep whose vile campaign would find his grandmother, if she possessed any shred of decency, rolling over in her grave. Obama is a good, decent man. McCain was an awful pilot, he selfishly and illegally leaked information during the Keating Five scandal for the sole purpose of derailing any questions of his integrity, and his foray into politics was financed by his marriage into money — at the expense of his first wife. I look forward to his slinking off into irrelevance, stripped of his power to continue fucking up the country with the rest of sociopath Republican cohorts.
Props to McCain for a sincere and gracious concession.
The crowd was worrisome though. Would have been interesting to see Palin’s face during that speech…
Shit, Obama is up by 10 here in Montana. Likely to change as the rural Rethug areas of the state report in after 10:00 or 11:00.
Nice Thank You email from Obama
I got a glimpse, looked like she was biting the head off a bat.
Yeah, that too. But McCain isn’t who we need to worry about.
Gregory just called Obama President Elect!
obama told mccain
“I need your help”
Finally, a black, socialist, terror-loving unitary executive. Who could have anticipated . . . I’m so glad we had the foresight to get rid of that checks-and-balances thingy. LMAO
I agree. Gramps is history, but at least went out w/ a bit of grace.
Palin, Mittens Romney & snakehandler Huckabee are all plotting for the nomination in 2012. The Lizard Brains will not tolerate for their to be peace, kindness or tolerance in this country. The GOoPers are now an all-Southern lynching party. They’ve still got Faux News and Wall St. behind them, & can (& will) do much damage in the coming years.
Let’s hope Obama doesn’t disappoint us too much and actually embraces CHANGE!
The shots of Sarah Plain’s [sic] face showed a mixture of shock, disbelief and calculation for 2012.
I have a difficult time believing that she really thought she and the geezer would win this thing.
McCain by comparison appeared to be more relieved than anything.
unitary executiveness ROOLZ!!!!!
dork
President Obamas acceptance speech right now.
Obama’s Victory Speech:
Hello Chicago!
Obama looks relieved more than anything.
If anyone doubts America is a place where all things are possible, tonight is your answer.
It’s the answer told by lines stretching around schools and churches. By people who waited three hours, four hours. Because this time things must be different, that this time their voice could make the difference. Americans sent a message to the world, we have never been a collection of red and blue states. We are and have always been the United States of America.
It is the answer to those who have been cynical about what we could achieve. It’s been a long time coming, but change has come to America.
A little bit earlier I received an extraordinarily gracious call from Sen McCain. He has fought for the country that he loves, enduring sacrifices we can scarcely imagine. We are better off for his service, looking forward to working with them to renew the Nation’s progress in the months ahead.
Thanks Vice President Elect Joe Biden. Thanks Michelle, the rock of the family, the love of his life. Tells daughters they’ve earned the new puppy coming to the White House. Thanks his grandmother and family, acknowledges debt to them.
Thanks his senior campaign staff, esp David Plouffe. “The best campaign team ever assembled in the history of politics.”
The victory truly belongs to you (meaning us). I was never the likeliest candidate for this office. It was built by working men and women who gave $5, 10, 20 for the cause. It grew strength from millions who volunteered and organized. Who proved that government of the people, by the people and for the people has not perished from the face of this earth.
I know you didn’t do this for me. We know the challenges tomorrow brings are the greatest of our lives. Two wars, a planet in peril, and the worst economic crisis in a century.
There are schools to build, threats to meet, etc. I have never been more hopeful than I am tonight that we will get there. Crowd chants, Yes We Can. There will be false starts and setbacks. Many won’t agree with every decision I make. I will always be honest about the challenges we face, especially when we disagree.
What began 21 months ago in the depths of winter cannot end this autumn night. It is the chance to make the change we seek. It can’t happen without you, without a spirit of sacrifice. We must look out no only for ourselves, we must look out for each other.
We rise or fall as one people. Don’t fall back on the pettiness of partisanship. Invokes Lincoln. While we have won a great victory tonight, we do so with a sense of humility and a desire to heal the divides. Quotes Lincoln again.
Says to opponents: I may have won your vote tonight, but I hear your voices, I heed your vote. I am your president too.
To the world: our stories are singular, but our destinies are shared. To those who would tear the world down, we will defeat you. To those who seek peace and security, we support you. Our power derives from our ideals.
The true genius of America is that it can be changed. The election had many firsts. Tells the story of Ann Nixon in Atlanta, 106 years old, born a generation after slavery. She couldn’t vote because she was a woman and because of the color of her skin. Reflects on all she has seen in 100 years in America. The story of America, Yes We Can. Saw women’s suffrage, the dust bowl, world war II, the Civil Rights movement, A man on the moon, the fall of the Berlin Wall. Today she cast her vote, Yes We Can.
We have come so far, seen so much. Yet there is much to do. If our children should see the next century, what change will they see? What progress will we have made? This is OUR time, this is OUR moment, to reclaim the American Dream. YES WE CAN!
Thank you, God bless you and may God bless the United States of America.
The man is a spell-binder.
I was tearing up as I typed that. My wife is crying, wondering if this was how people felt when Kennedy was elected.
yes, john mccain did as he was instructed.
a friendly acquiescence.
just as david rockefeller scripted it.
hold on for the real catastrophe.
and you still think that barry is a free spirit.
i would recommend that you get all that you can out of the usa.
barry will be the continuation of george bush. oh, i know, you don’t want to accept that.
but never forget, obombya has never repudiated the invasions of afghanistan, iraq. and in fact, has suggested that we should invade pakistan.
he has never repudiated the “drug” war.
he has never any aspect of the bushit’s warmongering.
neither has he questioned the bushit lies concerning the events of 11/09/01.
what did you think you voted for today? i think you voted for an illusion.
some years from now i think that you will say, “what the fuck did we do?”
but, i pray that i am wrong. i think not, however, david rockefeller, zbig brezinski laughs at our mental foolishness.
if i were you, i would figure out how to get your assets out of the usa. a hard wind is going to be blowing. taking out whatever assets you have.
enjoy the evening.
in the weeks to come, i think you will notice that obombya is just another gangster.
Got passport?
McCain doesn’t matter, but his followers do and will be and are the most dangerous thing this country has to face, because they believe that it is either their way and no way.
My sincere hope is that President Obama (that does sound nice), nor congress, will not tolerate that demeanor. And the ONLY WAY THAT WILL HAPPEN IS IF WE KEEP THE PRESSURE ON ALL OF OUR POLITICIANS. We must not allow the dems to give in to the repubs, in any way that will harm our objectives. We voted for progressive policies and we need to hold the politician’s feet to the fire to ensure that is accomplished, most importantly regarding selection of future SCOTUS, and economic benefits for the middleclass at the sacrifice of the wealthy, if necessary.
Geez, who stole your candy, Albert?
Some of us don’t have an option to take our assets out of the country. For most of us, our biggest assets are our homes (I can’t take that out of the country), my retirement account (not under my control, and no way I can get it under my control), my social security account (way out of my control), and my deferred compensation retirement account (I can control that one. It’s also the smallest or second smallest of the four.)
What do I do, assuming for the moment that you’re right and that Barack Obama is just another stooge?
