The issue is that ACORN was following the letter of the law….. there were REQUIRED in many states to return EVERY registration no matter how bogus….. AND they sorted them too…..

NO ONE at ACORN actually registered a voter, they filled out forms and submitted. IT is the Election Board that ACTUALLY registers voters. IF fraudulent people are registered then it is that Election Boards fault.

Those are inconvenient truths that the Republic Noise Machines will ignore.

Folks waiting around the corner, about 40, at our Lower Haight polling station. There has never, ever been a line here in the more than ten years we’ve voted there. Opposite corner had NO-on-8 volunteers and a Cindy Sheehan volunteer. Folks were in a good mood, some working their way through our immense voter guide at the last minure — SF has, in addition to the 12 state initiatives, 22 city initiatives to plow through, including, of course, the infamous vote to name our Oceanside Waste Treatment Plant for the outgoing pResident of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

I predict an overwhelming vote in favor of that one, which will feed into Drudge’s wacky SF stolen election storyline.

Lots of NO-on-8 volunteers in the Castro this afternoon, a very festive holiday atmosphere. Hope the good mood has reason to hold through the evening!

Seriously, many thanks to the FDL’ers that do the heavy lifting around here. Their efforts allow someone as lazy as I am to know what’s happening within minutes of the event — and on a nationwide scale, too. You’d have to watch interminable talking-head TV coverage to be as informed — and then the coverage would be biased.

I wrote earlier that my voting experience was hellish, lots of parking, friendly, helpful poll workers, quick short lines, lots of voting booths, paper ballots. I was the 585th voter about 10AM.

Good luck with that!! Clinton’s “deal with the devil” that secured an alliance with Greenspan and the corporate game planners required Clinton to get the Dems to cut their throats on taxes and then abandon them from the White House when they went into the election in 1994. Thus Clinton gave away the Democratic majority without a fight with assurances from the fascists that they would leave ‘im alone and of course the rest is history.

For Obama, the first big threat of “deligitimacy” lies not from the right-wing over ballot and election issues but from the encumbant Democratics and corporatist party elders and the first battles between the Obama people and the old guard will be seen in the fight for leadership before the conveneing of the new Congress. Thus the only real election related element that will effect the legitimacy battle will be the size of the mandate and the number and politics of the new congress people who will be voting for leadership for the first time.

The next “legitimacy” threat will come from fascist loyalists embeded in the civil service in the last year during the transition in the first months of the new administration and whatever connections they will be abl;e to maintain with the right wing noise machine.

Let’s get a huge majority and fight out new congressional leadership and we won’t hafta worry about attacks on Obama’s bonifides.
