2:16 — "Yes on 2" passes in California. That makes me really, really happy. Congratulations to all the grass-roots volunteers who just truly cared about the ethical treatment of farm animals, and shame on the unions and other so-called "progressive" groups who spread a bunch of lies on behalf of Big Ag.
2:13 – Nate Silver says "no evidence of a Bradley Effect — none whatsoever."
2:09 – via email — "In front of the White House, thousands are singing "na na na na, na na na na, hey HEY goodbye"
2:01 – Ben Smith: "CBS News reports that a group of young people gathered outside the White House tonight, chanting Obama’s name."
2:00 – Harry Reid: "This is a mandate to get along, to get something done in a bipartisan way. This is not a mandate for a political party or an ideology." Tell that to the new Chief of Staff.
1:56 — Michelle Bachman holds on. Ugh.
1:54 — Ding, dong the witch is dead — Musgrave goes down.
1:51 — 14 House pickups so far, per the DCCC.
1:43 — Howard Fineman on MSNBC just reported that Josh Marshall just emailed him and told him Rahm Emanuel has accepted the job of White House Chief of Staff.
1:38 — 37% reporting — Stevens 49%, Begich 46%. Will those crazy fuckers who voted for Sarah Palin re-elect even crazier Ted Toobz?

JANE! you kicked major ass tonight on BBC World News!
Dang .. why can’t Rahm go off with Dick Cheney and Donna Brazile into Eternal Irrelevance Hell
we still got work, people

jhfc.
oops, irrelevance
Uninspiring choice, but it gets him out the House, at least.
Thanks, Jacqui, I had fun.
I’m in my room now with my feet kicked up. Tracy Russo is with me and we are watching MSNBC and blogging.
Pooped but have to know what happens from here on in.
Harry says toobz won’t be allow to serve should he be re-elected. Wondering what will happen if he tries to show up to work.
In fairness to the crazy fuckers in Alaska, they’ve been told that Stevens is going to get booted from the Senate. (I’ll believe it when I see it, but Harry Reid has said so.) Their choice here is between Begich (D) or a Sarah-Palin-right-wing-appointee-if-you-believe-the-Senate-Dems-have-any-spine-whatsoever. I think that if the situation was reversed, and it was a Democratic felon (who I knew was going to be replaced by another Dem) running against a generic Republican, I’d probably vote for the Democratic felon.
Electing Obama, check.
Destroying vichy dem-ness, still to do.
100% reporting in NC and Obama’s up aroun 12,000 votes. Seems safe to call.
I just am so having some trashcan chicken or whatever the fuck with Steve Gilliard. Just DAMN DAMN DAMN I’d love to hear his ass tonite.
1:54 — Ding, dong the witch is dead — Musgrave goes down.
Buh bye. Another odious anti-gay politician out the door.
During McCan’t speech tonight Miss Sarah looked in shock. She started believing her own lies. Does that make her delusional? Megalomaniac delusional.
nice having ya here at nite again jane – its been a while
Thanks Jane for all you and the rest of the FireDogLake Bloggers did for us! Oh and Thanks to all the Mods, Lurks and back room Boys and Girls also. You all get atta boys/girls for all your hard work for keeping the Lake the best place to see elections as they happen!!

yes we can – and we forking proved it!
They’re Alaska firsters, what do you expect?
Gives their favorite, Sarah, a chance to appoint herself. (!)
(Sorry, ET, nothing personal.)
Yes. You got a ton of people off their sofa’s and out the door to work in the world of reform. Your courage seeped into the tubes and infected us all.
Same story with Indiana. Not sure what the deal is there. Maybe there are military ballots or provisional ballots that have to be counted?
Christine Gregoire held on to the Washington governors seat.
Hi Jane!
I’m happy to have Rahm out of the House — we can focus our attention on Steny.
OOPs forgot the Digg Pups!! so come on and give a Digg for all the worker Bees at the Lake have done for us today!!
Can we please oust Lieberman now? Please!
Jane…do ya think we can change Barack’s mind re Rahm’s possible
appointment?? He is a real a**hole…..
Prop 8 at 52.5 now. This one’s going to go all night, I think.
It’s still sinking in, but tomight feels really really good.
I don’t know what to think about Rahm as COS. So many blanks to fill in right now with a new WH staff and cabinet. Depending on the composition of the cabinet and other considerations, I just wonder what aspects of Rahm would be accented as strengths (or not) as a WH COS vs. being in the House. Despite the little I know about Rahm as a person, I can imagine the roles and responsibilities are sufficiently different that we might come to regard him in a very different light in a uniquely new position.
I think chief of staff would be a good job for him. He gets to think he’s in charge, and everyone else gets to keep an eye on him.
so far, mr let them eat shit smith is losing up here in oregon. 48=47 with 49% votes counted.
Palin reminds me of GW way too much. A fake folksy ignorant with delusions of adequacy. Thank God she is out.
Amy, my daughter, said that the people of Berkeley are celebrating in the streets. There is a black church down the street and she can hear singing and general happiness rolling out of the windows.
Obama wins Indiana!
INdiana called by MSNBC for Obama
amen, ironranger
amen.
Well can’t stay up too late tonight as the installers are coming tomorrow to begin the installation of our Solar Electric system. I did write an update at Oxdown and there you will find pictures of our bare roof before the installation begins so you can get an idea of what it looks like before things change…. for the better that is!!
Rahm makes sense to me. Isn’t he from Chicago? He prolly had a lot to do with Obama getting the support he needed to start his career.
that is cool. get some sleep
makes me very happy.
I can’t wait to talk to my daughter-in-law in Raleigh, NC tomorrow am. Our son voted early but she likes to vote on election day. I want to hear how long she had to wait in line. Am I right that it looks like NC may just go blue?
Did I miss Missouri?
+1 on what Nahant said about Jane, all the Mods, our good friend LurkMod, all the front pagers, the Engine Room folks… especially the regular commenters… just plain everybody who’s made this remarkable Lake experience possible all this time. Because the Lake is a big part of what we celebrate tonight.
What Hmmm and Nahant said.
I’m profoundly grateful for the community here at the Lake.
on behalf of the entire backstage crew, please permit me to say you are most welcome pups. it was our pleasure.
CNN has outstanding: Montana, Missouri, Indiana, and North Carolina
All hail backstage and tech!
Whoever thought we’d have an Election Night this smooth? Not I.
It’s true, Mary. The Sweetie and me live half a block off College Avenue and there are still cars driving around beeping with folks hanging out the windows yelling, and people on the sidewalks are cheering and hugging and crying (outside the bars & restaurants mainly). A car drives past and folks on the sidewalk cheer at them. We’ve never seen anything like this, ever. We will always remember tonight. Always.
I love that.
Rahm Emanuel is bad news.
The problem w/ Rahm as CoS is that a lot of people on the Hill dislike him. In addition, people hate working for him. He’s maniacal and burns through staff. Won’t do much for morale in the White House. Sure, great he’s outta the House, but sucks if Obama’s first tap is a former Clintonite who led the charge for NAFTA. How is that change again?
