With election day fast approaching, I’ve started thinking about election night. It’s likely to be a very late one at my house — and a lot of yours as well, I’d suspect.
I’m contemplating an election night supper that doesn’t require a huge amount of hand-on work for me, but feeds my family some food that’s at least somewhat healthy. And that can sit out a bit and not get gross.
While I’ve been poking around through my cookbooks and some online sites I like, I’ve found a trove of possibilities that I thought I’d share. And then maybe we can spend a little time talking plans for election night — and popcorn toppings. Pull up a chair…
– Gluten free appetizer recipes.
— Portable appetizers for a campaign potluck.
— Party starters.
— Mucho chip and dip recipes.
— So easy even jayt can make it antipasto platter.
— Rachel Ray’s election night munchies.
— Eating Well’s candidate chow.
— Some great snackage from Eating Well’s superbowl recipe suggestions.
— Easy crockpot turkey chili.
— Vegetarian Times appetizers.
PS — Today is the last day of early voting in WV. And Bob Geiger has some exceptionally funny cartoons this morning. Enjoy!

Morning cbl — just waiting for my coffee to finish brewing…
Good Morning Christy and Firedogs,
the Geiger cartoon reminded me of
this, ya gotta love West Hollywood :D
I’m SOOO glad I didn’t have a mouthful of tea when I clicked that link! Too funny, and creative as hell.
Christy,
hope the Peanut had a blast yesterday. Since it’s quiet, I would like to ask about Election Night doings at the Lake. Was thinking of putting together a Results page but don’t want to do anything redundant or steal any one else’s thunder
What am I saying ?!?!? I am so geeked up on about 20 races – I blame you and that Hamsher woman :D
Mornin’ Marion
Morning Christy,
Perfect! popcorn toppings.
I put up a diary on popcorn before a debate, there are a couple suggestions from pups there. Tuesday, my plan is to make cheese popcorn per looseheadprop. I wonder what wine goes with that? *g*
We’re still working out logistics because there are SO many races we are tracking all at once. But we’ll be pulling stuff up from Oxdown, too, as people post local info — so do feel free to post your own there as well. :)
Is it too early for some Halloween candy this morning, do you think? The Peanut had a blast at yesterday’s school Halloween party — she was Sleeping Beauty and the homeroom moms put together a haunted tunnel made out of a couple of big refrigerator boxes and assorted decorations and strobe lights. They had a blast!
Speaking of wine………..
What time on Tuesday is it safe to buy champagne but avoid jinxing the results?
thanks. diary it is then. With the exception of Prop 8, I am soooo excited. It’s like a having a huge box arrive from the kewl Auntie who always gets the best stuff labeled: Do Not Open Until November 4th !
Hello, I left you a reply down stairs about voting in GA..
Good morning Christy and Firepups!
I’m hosting a small election night party at my place with food and special guests Sam Adams, Jack Daniels and Captain Morgan to celebrate the election of President Obama.
Thanks for the link, Christy — enjoy the cartoons. And *please* watch that Onion thing about Cindy McCain! :-)
It’s time for candy somewhere!
The cartoons were great this week and The Onion is not to me missed. Thanks for posting again.
yes, there’s always time for candy.
Mornin’Bob – love your work !
and yes, Messrs Morgan, Adams, and Daniels are gonna be busy Tuesday
Got it….even “awfuller” than I’d heard. :-( Took a running dive off the really deep end politics-wise in 2004 and one of the most important learning experiences was the realization that the individual who controls a state’s voting process is probably even more important than the governor. Don’t know that it will ever be possible to get past the state’s rights people but *something* has GOT to be done about the manner in which this country handles elections….it is way past insane.
Ahhhhh….finally, my coffee is done. I’ll be human in a few minutes, gang.
yes. I enjoy all your posts, beyond the cartoons.
Every Halloween I hope and hope that someone will come. This year I carved and lit 5 pumpkins, three that are 20 feet up in a tree. I even got 500g 72% dark chocolate candy bars. Not a single kid came to the door. So I’ll be having some chocolate, but we have decided to have ROAST LAME DUCK on election night in honor of GWB’s official lameness. Probably with broccoli in honor of his father.
Christy, my dear, in a blog world filled with egos and people who seem to constantly be spoling for a fight, you are one of *the* most human people I’ve met — even with no coffee! :-)
We only had five kids come to our house. But those five got huge double-handfuls of candy for their effort. *g*
Well the good news was that they had him vote in the wrong district so Tom Price’s opponent got an additional vote. I found out on the Sec. of State site when I was checking my own polling place. When I voted early, I asked the poll workers and she said it has happened alot and they can handle it on the county level but not at polling sites on Tuesday.
You are too good to me! But I try — seriously, life is too damned short for the ego crap. I can barely manage blogging and taking care of my family as it is. *g*
Here’s a good one for warding off Dick Cheney: Garlic And White Bean Dip. *g*
Yum! I’ll be over at… what time did you say?
Here’s a collection of quick and healthy appetizers. Some of these look really yummy…
In our neighborhood just north of Manhattan — upper middle-class and about 75 percent Democrat — a woman came to the door with an Obama shirt on and with a young boy wearing a McCain mask who yelled “BOO” when I answered the door. Scariest costume of the night.
As an aside, my 11-year-old son announced the presidential “voting” they did at the Middle School: Obama 428 McCain 41.
So there’s 41 sets of parents emotionally abusing their children :-)
I love that — roast lame duck. Bwahahahahaha!
A party seems to be forming at my house, as well. So far, only 3 guests. I need a distraction, my nerves are frazzled.
funny

This is way off any relevant topic, but I have to bring this huge faux pas to light. Douglas Holtz-Eakin, a top McCain advisor, made a stunning admission today on the Saturday edition of Morning Joe. Joe challenged him on the McCain campaign’s claim that they would balance the budget in four years. Holtz-Eakin said it would be difficult with a Democratic Congress. Joe then asked what he would do with a Republican Congress. Holtz-Eakin said, ”Then we could go after Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.”
Every once in a while someone on the McCain campaign accidently commits a truth – and when they do it should be all over the media. Without a kick in the pants from the blogs this astounding admission, that could be a game-changer on the last weekend before the election, will never see the light of day.
Good morning all.
I really wish people who will be using the phone at 1:45 in the morning would be more care full. Someone called me at that time and it was a wrong number. They were looking for a guy named Jeff also, which was even worse since that’s my name. It was far from spooktacular
I’ve been invited to election night party where a friend will know by then if he’s been elected to the local council.
Halloween was good, I was Joe the Mullet, the new guy on the political scene. It was fun until a parent with a mullet showed up. Awkward is the truest form of the word. My neighbors and I hung out as we usually do.
Been waiting days for PUAC to present this:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/sci…..617191.stm
something different, something beautiful, something to agree on (maybe). ;-)
Oooooh, and here’s a collection of healthy crock pot recipes. Some of these look great, too.
Re GOTV – have people seen this customizable video? Must say, brilliant work by MoveOn – am sending it to everyone I know.
K, relurking – *mwah* to Christy, Peanut and everybody
Hey christy,
I spent yesterday cooking for GOTV but I’m not sure how its going to go since I’m not sure how to serve it at a p hone bank. I made two soups–tomato/goat cheese/rosemary and lentil/moroccan and got tons of fresh bread as a donation from a local baker. If I can manage to serve it hot at today’s phone banks maybe I’ll make some kind of massive chili or pasta dish for tomorrow night’s phone banks, too.
aimai
– So easy even jayt can make it antipasto platter.
No respect – no respect at all, I tell ya. *g*
What are all those healthy looking things anyway?
Oh, how cool is that!?!
Red beans and rice or Hoppin John, easy, economical and real comfort food. GOTV activities scheduled for the next 4 days.
hehehehehehe I knew you’d get a kick out of that…
Christy,
A real quick and easy crock-pot appetizer:
A package of frozen Italian Meatballs
A jar of gravy
Put the meatballs in the crock-pot and pour on the gravy.
Only one trick or treater –so we will be having candy on election night.
I am having neighbors over..we’ve been through the whole process together!
And since we are on the West Coast –plan on starting the party early!
There has been a lot of discussion about early voting etc. I don’t see why everyone doesn’t go to mail ballots like Oregon. It is cheaper, more people vote and no lines!
If anyone can find video on that, let me know — would LOVE to get that up!
LOL
Isn’t there a standing law about committing truth if you are a Republican?
I do something similar with grape jelly, some chili sauce, a squeeze of fresh lemon juice and a little dash of jerk seasoning for kick.
Morning, everyone. It’s 46 in Upstate NY this morning and overcast. I’ll probably do a big pan of enchiladas(cheese, onions, peppers and either some sort of meat or mushed up black beans), which I will throw in the oven when I get home from work and a big salad. That sort of stuff works re-nuked or even if it gets cold and it’s something I can put together Monday night and not have to fuss with on Tuesday morning, when the DH and I will be heading out early to the polls.
Me, too..only instead of grape jelly, I use whole cranberry sauce and a little ginger and soy sauce. Yummy.
Here’s a collection of healthy versions of comfort food. For folks whose local races are gonna be nail-biters, thought this might come in handy. *g*
There should be video of Bush at the White House when McCain came after winning the nomination and Bush mocked Obama’s “Change” meme. He made a few more comments and then asked McCain if he had anything to add and McCain said he agreed with Bush’s comments and said he wouldn’t change a thing. Surprised Obama didn’t have this in an ad.
if you have a GEORGE FOREMAN GRILL
buy thiss stuff, and put it on cut up chicken 2 hrs before ya grill it

this is excellent comfort beverage for nail biters

Heya! Great to see you — hope all is well!
Joe then asked what he would do with a Republican Congress. Holtz-Eakin said, ”Then we could go after Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.”
I think that we now know the real reason that the McGrumpy campaign doesn’t wanna talk about the economy -> Doug Holtz-Eakin.
we need a quikie OBIE commercial on this…………….stat
Good morning, firedogs. Best of luck at the polls and good eating on Tuesday as you watch the returns.
I think Christy’s Crock Pot suggestion is the best way to go, no matter the dish. Once the soup, chili, stew or sauce is finished cooking, turn to low for the rest of the night. Still hot and not gross, though you might have to add a bit of liquid if the night goes on and on. For the carnivores, it makes a great pulled pork roast, too. But here’s hoping for an early decision!
Katherine Graham Cracker above brings up another good suggestion on the topic of voting process. Why CAN’T the whole country adopt Oregon’s suggestion of mail-in ballots? We wouldn’t have to wait in long lines, and the hard copies could be recounted in the event of conflicts. My hope is that an Obama presidency could bring some integrity and transparency to this thus far piecemeal process.
Wow! What a good catch.
Wow. I just copied that an emailed it to a friend. What was Joe’s reaction?
Mika’s?
Have you seen this one

I’m off to Ohio to do outside poll watching in Athens. I’ll go to the local Democratic party, and cheer our Guy, and hopefully for Vic Wulsin.
I find myself a little more optimistic than most around here.
I’m confident that with Dems in charge the voting process will get a huge overhaul.
Voter suppression is a Republican core value.
Not very small ‘d’ democratic at all. The pictures of long lines at the polling places have sealed the deal. This is the first year of early voting in Ohio and the genie is out of the bottle. I’ll always vote early going forward, and I’m sure they’ll open up more polling places in future elections to accommodate the crowds.
Douglas Holtz-Eakin is the latest of Villager Idols to fall – wonder what he’s gonna do with all that Gravitas Deluxe® now . . .
Something that should be viewed by all voters before they are allowed to vote.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/worl…..n-iraq-war
Here’s hoping on Vic Wulsin — I so loathe Mean Jean Schmidt.
Don’t worry about all the people you’ll see looking hung over.
This would be because they are.
Halloween is bigger in Athens than the 4th of July.
I know, cuz I still have the scars from 30 years ago to prove it!
It’s sure interesting how the list of republic women who need to be voted out of office seems to grow by leaps and bounds…..

who’m I leaving out?
Marilyn Musgrave – Colorado …currently trailing
So I just the got flyer for the local council race. It’s from the Democrats. Seems a Republican council member (who they don’t name) has 2 tort claims filed against him for inappropriate behavior.
One of the Democratic acomplishments has the Victorian Bus Stop as a reason to vote for them.
It’s a plexiglas bus shelter, which I don’t believe they had plexiglas in the Victorian days, which is half the size of the old one. I’ve taken the bus that that shelter is for, and on those cold and wet wintry days, the old bus shelter wasn’t big enough.
When the Democrats knocked on my door a couple weeks ago, I asked them to justify why I should vote for them. I got the old “Becuase we’re great people line.” I laughed at that, and told them they wasn’t going to work. By the end of the conversation I had caught the local Democratic town elder in a flat out lie to my face on my front porch. He’s not running, but his reputation has been greatly diminished in my eyes.
whooops forgot the always odious Marsha Blackburn
What can you say about someone whose yard sign says “Marsha’s My Man”?
And hopefully kicked to curb.
Just think. After Tuesday, there’s a fair chance we may never see/hear Nancy Pfotenhour, Nicole Wallace, or Heather Wilson again.
this is my democracy in action, what a joke we are to the world!!!

RedHen, this needs exposure. Do you mind if I do a diary at DKos? Or would you like to?
Wow. This must be why Johnny McCrazy is on the campaign trail saying, “Ever 4 years the Democrats use fear that we’re going to take your Social Security away!”.
Asshole. A big hypocritical lying stinking asshole.
Good morning everyone! I woke up at 7:12 this morning thinking it was a school morning, started pounding on my son’s bedroom door telling him he missed the bus, and then he said, “Uh Mom? It’s Saturday”. Doh. Am I stressed out about this election? You betcha!
We’re working on getting the clip, just FYI.
Boehner needs to give more speeches
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v…..sical.html
Please do Solai because I would like to do a post on it too. I’ll be looking for a YouTube video to pop up about this.
Okay. I should have known that you’d be on this. Thanks again (and again and again).
Check and check….. blackburn grates my very last nerve!
You can imagine the areas where there are toooo few voting booths. Gwinnett county which has a large spanish and black population had only one site open for early voting and only had five sites open for advanced voting. Geographically it’s a large county. Another site in So. Cobb county, a large minority area, only had 8 voting machines. Yesterday the Sec. of State brought over 4 more. The areas mentioned had 8 -10 hour waits.
sadly not. all three have the kind of facist pedigree that will allow them to forego working at Blockbuster with Tucker Bounds come 11/5
ps, granted I don’t watch much teevee, but haven’t seen ol Nancy since the infighting became public
FYI, My son has always been registered in John Lewis’ district until the state made an error with his address. I have to wonder if the state wasn’t trying to purge certain areas?
can’t find any current polling – she voted against bailout, local economy tied to military base, no indication of Obama coattails there – anyone ?
Bah hahahahaha! Hysterical. Thanks for posting it.
Election night will be (early) election morning for a gang of us exp-pats in Germany. We’re steering clear of “Morning in America” in favor of a more Supertramp-y “Breakfast in America” party… Everyone coming over with croissants and muffins to huddle around BBC/CNNIntl (our two english-language stations) and some streaming on the toobs. Bittersweet to be this far away, but if my old home state (IN) goes blue, I may have to rent a car just to drive around honking the horn.
Good luck getting out the vote everybody!
Is that the one where he calls Obama “chicken” for not voting Y or N? Josh has a linky to a news article about boehner and a recent rally speech; dial-up so can’t watch vids.
Reading that I thought, “Wheee, I can breath easy about the election if boehner’s going *that* off the wall.”
bom dia pups
alphie, where are you in germany?
Watched that and will now go change the oil in my truck. Or somethin’.
yes, it is early and no, i haven’t gone to bed yet *g*
You’re probably right. With all the pundit shows, there seems to be a never ending demand for “experts”. John Stewart did a piece on all of them called something like, “Who the f##k is that guy?” He also documents statements as coming from “some f##king guy.”
That is what the article is about. It was in a school paper I think. Several independents interviewed, were dismayed and made up their minds to vote for Obama.
Good Morning All.
Yikes it’s still early here, but the wind and lightening woke me up.
I’m with you on that comment, crosstimbers. Yesterday, my sister and I were talking about the omg, what ifs about the presidential vote. I thought, if the worst happens…I can save a lot of money by cutting off the tv cable. Won’t be watching any of that!
Kassel, Nordhessen…
Oh…Kay.
I did the same thing a little while back…wasn’t a Saturday, but a holiday. Doncha love the look on their little faces? Uh, mom?
lightening? is it raining there as well?
Yes. In most situations, I try and figure out the worst case and come to terms with it, then do what I can to avoid it. In this election, I’m stuck on moving to Canada.
Not any more. Just about 10 minutes of real pounding, then off. Kind of like a summer storm in the mid west.
(are you really still up from your party last night?)
cool! i never made it to kassel. i lived in oldenburg, niedersachsen for 3 years
They are showing McCain’s ad on TV but his POW status. When I watch it, all I hear is blah, blah, blah; I suffered for you and now it’s time for you to suffer with me.
You are a wise person. That’s an excellent strategy for survival.
yep. the party started here and then we went to west hollywood till about 3. went out for breakfast and got home about an hour ago.
Or suffer because of me is what I see happen with him in charge.
Yup, that’s the one. Sounded like it was one of those “closed to all but thugs” rallys……with a few *non-believers* who managed to slip through the cracks.
Last night we gave out candy, but we gave out very little to each trick or treat-er due to the economy. Late in the evening some high school kids came by and I gave them each one piece of candy, as they were leaving I over heard the boy say, “what do you expect from a house with an Obama sign in the yard” With out missing a beat the young girl with him said: “Well don’t expect any treats from me either”
I guess Obama is doing his part to curb teenage sex.
Hey gang, late to the thread.
I’m not sure what I’ll be doing Tuesday. I’ve signed up for exit polling with this group but haven’t heard back from them. Otherwise, I’ll volunteer to wave signs for my Congressional candidate or drive people to the polls. My Drinking Liberally group is going to meet at a local sports bar. I’ll join them if I can confirm there’s wireless there.
Funny that Hoppin’ John was mentioned. I made some last week because I want John hoppin’ mad…
Looking forward to Capitol Steps tomorrow afternoon, but that will have me miss Biden just across the UF campus at the same time…
It’s a tough morning. I got a call from my stepdad to let me know my mother had another close call last night. The paramedics got her back to breathing normally and alert, but he says she’s very fragile right now. She wouldn’t go to the hospital, probably because he’s having his prostate removed Thursday. He has people lined up to be with her while he’s away and he was very firm in telling me not to come visit them before our planned family trip for Christmas. He thinks that’s the only thing she’s holding on for at this time.
Morning folks. I haven’t been posting here much as we have been dealing with a serious illness in my family for the last two months. It’s been a bit of a blur, but I have been reading posts and comments and the election news has been a lifeline. I’m really proud of all the effort that everyone has put into this election, and am very impressed with a terrific campaign run by Barack Obama. No matter what the outcome. That said, I feel increasing hope that we are about to turn a page.
Thanks for election night suggestions, all.
Well, I pranced down to the pachyderm watering hole last night to see if they were ready to waive the white flag of surrender. Not surprisingly, based on a poll sponsored by the Burnt Stump Daily Bugle showing a tightening race in the counties west of Walla Walla, Washington, their beady red eyes were glowing, like Joe the Plumber’s skinhead, with the possibilities of a glorious comeback. They weren’t in the mood for my braying jackassery. So, with Fox news blaring in the background I bid them a hasty good-bye.
Simply put, this might not be the weekend to talk politics with the elephants in your life.
Hugs for your family, Jim. You’ve got a tough row to hoe..I know, I did the same a couple of years ago with my parents.
((((JimWhite))))
sending you and your family peaceful energy
You rock, woman! Ah your night reminds me of times I did that. West Hollywood. Is it still wall to wall people in the street? What fun.
Huge thoughts and prayers for you and yours, Jim. Hope it all turns out well for your family…
Best to you, too, Carolyn.
(((carolyn))) sorry to hear about your family sickness but glad to see you here
yep. it was insane (as usual). i got hit on a lot because lots of the gus thought i was a really cute young guy dressed as a anime assasin (think over the top costume, hair and makeup). it was a blast
I’m still astounded at the voting lines. When I vote (in my small town) it generally takes about 10 minutes. If it’s awfully busy, maybe a half hour. I’m not sure I could stand in line for 8 hours. What about eating? Bathroom breaks? Exhaustion?
Obama should start passing out food and drinks to these people. That’ll sway them.
Besides vote by mail, I would like to see states adopt the use of the Voters handbook as we have in California. It is a great voter guide and a good way to provide information to the voter from each campaign.
I’m a little tired of the “service since I was seventeen,” claims. Apparently he’s counting the years he had access to a very good education at public expense and almost blew it off. His POW years aside, the remainder of his “service” brought him a pretty good salary and benefits. Again, aside from the POW experience, I would guess the marjority of citizens would have traded careers and benefits with him.
Oh Jim. My thoughts are with you. That is a typical thing for family to hold out until Christmas, I’ve heard.
Being our age, there’s a lot of that going around. It’s not easy and it’s not fun. Lean on your friends and whatever makes you feel good.
(You’re in DC? So’s my daughter. If I ever get out there, I’ll have to look you up.)
Don’t know anything about the polling techniques and AP has its name attached but y’all will like the content of this one:
http://news.yahoo.com/page/ele…..r-emotions
actually, there was a post on kos about folks helping out the voters in line. we need them to stay in line. too much is at stake.
as for bathroom, maybe you can call your elections office and ask about port-o-potties. other than that, bring a book, some snacks and your own water
for solai @ 118
Far out! That used to happen to me too. Isn’t it cool how how our partners seem to enjoy it too!
We have both vote by mail and a bluebook (handbook) here in CO real helpful.
If the dummy hadn’t blown off the incoming warning and taken some evasive action he might not have been shot down. My fear is that he would do the same with the country.
yes, very cool. i can’t imagine some homophobe in west hollywood period and e specially on halloween *G* they wouldn’t last 1 nanosecond
How many port o potties could be set up? I’m just imagining really long lines at the potties. At least, these days the potties are for everyone. I remember when the gals lines were huge and the guys not so much. I used to go get in the boys lines.
I agree, I just don’t see why he feels entitled to be President because of his POW status, or his service. He’s still responsible for the votes he cast in service to the country, his policy decisions, and his nasty demeanor. All of which are on the wrong side of what’s good for the people who are paying his salary and benefits.
We’re actually in Florida. Capitol Steps has four traveling troupes.
Well, I was never in that situation, so I’m don’t feel qualified to comment on that. I did spend four years as an officer in the Air Force and 36 years as a civil servant, so I feel qualified to say that it worked for me and the public doesn’t owe me or him any more thanks than we’ve already gotten.
Ah…lot’s of Floridians here. Will note that firepup stat in my memory bank.
PW is upstairs with a letter from Dobson
I only had to wait a little under three hours and my son a little over four hours. You really have to feel for the folks who waited 10 hours yesterday in areas around Gwinnett. Clayton County tried to get the State (GA) to extend hours until Saturday but to no avail. Many areas are concerned with the lines for Tuesday..
Speaking of which, did you see any No On 8 signs? Was there any political stuff going on?
i don’t know. it would depend on expected turnout for that particular polling area. that’s why i suggested she call her elections office and see what they are doing (if anything) about it
oh yeah. plenty of folks dressed like palin and political satire. we saw no on 8 banners placed in store front windows, etc
Oh sheesh. What a mess. Maybe this will be the reason we have to face the voting situation. If this has an affect on Tuesday’s outcome, we will have to come up with a better plan. A bigger boat.
Check your fb mail later. Sending you some pix of my just got engaged girlie. :)
OMG. Danziger!
Be my guest – I don’t have the technical skills or knowledge to do that; plus, my dial-up access gives me limited capability to access any video.
For some reason, I read that as “macho” chip and dip recipes.
(((JimWhite and Family!)))
Christy, pack up the Peanut & come on over to Maui. [Fares are surprisingly low these days.] We’re five hours “behind” East Coast Time [after tonight’s “fall back” of Daylight Savings Time on the Mainland], so at 3 pm, after returning from the beach, you and the Peanut could snuggle into chairs in our “family room” to watch election returns. Should all be over by dinner time here.
We could feast on sweet Maui Gold Pineapple [really, better than ANY pineapple you’ve ever had!!!], and from our yard, mangoes, guacamole from our avocados, orange juice from the oranges, star fruit. A quick trip down the hill to Costco yields yummy hummus and pita chips, plus cans of guava juice.
Is there any better way to spend election night?
Masaccio, how are things looking for Vic? It’s rather hard from Maui to find news of her race; I’ve searched all over the internet.
Every time we have a few spare pennies, we send them to her. I’ve also been commenting on every story about Obama spending these last days in IA, AZ etc., that he should help with down-ticket races like Vic’s.
I see that he’s going to be in OH, and even Cincinnati, I think. I hope Vic’s up there on the podium with him, and that he says some encouraging words.
[For those of you mystified by this ramble, Vic Wulsin is a GREAT candidate who’s trying to oust Mean Jean Schmidt.]
We’re five hours ahead of you, but fortunately being self-employed, are up all night Tuesday and taking Wednesday off. We are getting in lots of beer, vino, and sparkling water (to aid hangovers), making a big pot of soup and some bread, rolling up sock pairs to throw at the television, and pillows to hide behind if bad results scroll up on the screen. Some fireworks to let off Wednesday nite if things look good. (Wednesday nite is Bonfire Night here in the UK anyway, when they let lots of fireworks off, but I’m sure a few Obama-motivated ones will be very welcome – I haven’t met anyone here who thinks McPain is a good idea, and I live near a very military town.) Hoping for good weather on Wednesday to walk off both the hangover and any residual tension. I have very few biteable fingernails left.
If, for some reason…, the result is not clear, I’ll be on the train Wed. evening to Edinburgh, with other fellow Amurricans, to protest outside the US Consulate.
Being a remote-control-control-freak (esp after learning my lesson during CNN’s 04 Bob Dole/Bob Woodward Election Night bore-gasm), I’m hosting a soiree of my own. Mostly pitchers of booze (mmm, sangria!), but also frozen pizza masquerading as classy food. Here are the recipes, if you’d like to do the same:
http://urbzen.com/2008/10/29/h…..ght-party/
Am also hoping to get Election Night bingo cards uploaded tonight or tomorrow, so check back for that. Cheers!
