McCain tends to be neoconnish, especially his advisors, so why not balance it with folks from the "realist" camp? Also, why were Graham and Lieberman there? Fellow Baghdad bargain hunters, I suppose. And isn’t that FL Gov. Charlie Crist’s perma-tan right behind McCain? The "Hey, look, I got yer governor in a photo-op! Vote for me!" contingent is stoked.
Maybe because it was a tiny, closed to the public event of about 100 GOP supporters, the traveling journo-stenography pool, and the photo-op background folks? (Yes, a closed event in Florida the last week of campaigning. Strategery at its finest.)
And then…suddenly, it clicks:
"Give her some time in the office and I think the answer would be, she will be [pause] adequate. I can’t say that she would be a genius in the job. But I think she would be enough to get us through a four year… well I hope not… get us through whatever period of time was necessary. And I devoutly hope that it would never be tested."
The indictment of Palin was all the more biting because both she and McCain have held Eagleburger up repeatedly during the past several weeks as evidence that the Republican ticket has firm standing and support within foreign policy circles….
Eagleburger tends to be blunt, and my guess is they didn’t want anyone honest about Team McCain anywhere near the event. Jim Baker already contradicted McCain on foreign policy, and spoke in glowing terms about what an Obama presidency might mean:
Well, I think electing the first African-American president would send a powerful message not just abroad, but within this country as well. Having said that, I have, of course, endorsed Senator McCain.
"Endorsed" McCain? Not "support." That’s as tepid as the Nancy Reagan "Well, obviously this is the nominee of the party," isn’t it?
Feel the McMentum…
(YouTube — Hilarious "dance off" between McCain and Obama. The effects in this are pretty good until it gets a little weird at the end. Enjoy the laugh.)

Maybe Baker and Eagleburger thought it was about as good an idea as getting drunk with failblog.
hmmmm what I wouldn’t give for some truth serum or wonder woman’s magic lasso or at least mind readingpowers to get to the truth behind why some folks weren’t there…or haven’t endorsed him yet (condi) etc.
Joe. Joe the plumber where are you? Joe you here?
Morning Christy
Morning everyone. Running around like crazy here this morning — Halloween party at The Peanut’s school today and I’m one of the homeroom mommas…
that sounds like fun. I never had those but then again, I was at a catholic school. You know how it is…halloween = satan
yikes! happy hallow day to the peanut and all the kids-of any age! Rachael Maddow & campbell Brown- make my day..
Well, so is The Peanut — but they are having a Halloween party anyway. *G*
Shocking!
Not.
Happy Hallowe’en Christy, I bet the peanut’s going to be a princess, that was my favorite costume at that age, although I was a wonderful witch in 2d grade, had the cackle down pat and actually won 1sst place, one of my lifetime achievements.
Thanks for the laugh.
I can’t wait until we have a president who really can dance!
OOPs post crash, Jane’s up,
Christy’s will be back at the top of the hour.
Trick? or Treat?
I report, you decide.
Oooooh, ooooh. Favorite (and winning) Halloween costume stories.
I won in 6th grade as the old woman who lived in a shoe. I created a cardboard shoe around my baby sister’s stroller, had dolls hanging out all the “windows” and she was in there too!
As an adult, I went to work (an insurance company) in drag – as a mafia type guy. I was hardly recognizable and when asked who (or what) I was supposed to be, I answered, Let’s just say I’m in the insurance business.
Ha! I won for that one too.
Ooh,good. I hope it’s really called a Halloween party. My eleven year old hippie went off to “costume day”. Grrrr.
I’m still having trouble keeping up Charlie’s flips back and forth. He’s certainly doing everything he can to ingratiate himself with both sides in this fight.
what a fun video Christy
I bet the peanut’s going to be a princess, that was my favorite costume at that age, …
Mine too.
I won a Halloween contest too, one year. I love to see the children in their outfits. Happy Halloween to all the DFHs, their friends and family. As for those Darn Fundamentalist Haters, bah on you and all your baby elephants.
*s*
I hope there were pictures of the Old Lady Who Lived in a Shoe
why am I not surprised?
heh.
Good Morning everyone……
btw my test went well but will not hear results until probably at least Monday…… but I feel sooooo much better
My question is what has McCain done….. really done to give him all those Foreign Policy street creds? Is it because he sat his butt in the congress for 26 years?
Is it flying around the world for the Navy po’ing off the locals by knocking out their electrical grid?
Eagleburger is sack o’crap party apparatchik and probably one of the worst SecStates evah as a recess appointment in Bush 1, his total claim to fame other than lasting from Nixon to Bush1 somewhere in the government has been to forsee that Iraq might be quagmire, but not oppose it in any meaningful way.
His spit-warm endorsement of McCain is about his speed.
No it is partying with Pinochet and his pals.
btw, did everyone see that John Cusack will be here this afternoon to talk about his latest film, War, Inc?
oooo, John Cusack…mmmmmm…oh, sorry…yes!!!!
Thanks for the reminder about Cusack. I’ll be sure to lurk! Have fun with the peanut.
tastey;
teh burns
HoHoHo….. McCain will be here this weekend campaigning in ARIZONA! Planned event in Prescott Saturday ……..
Obama is thinking of doing a swing through the state this weekend….. woohoo… We are in Play!
Yeah, and I loved the past-tense passivity of the Baker comment, too. Spit-warm pretty much covers it.
LOL times are changing *g* are the nuns still stern looking? Ours were as mean as wet cats
this is too much fun, I must post more;
One of the items in the post fom Think Progress has a quote from Eaglburger
http://thinkprogress.org/2008/…..r-31-2008/
The indictment of Palin
You know that pretty soon that will mean something from a Grand Jury.
No nuns teaching — but the ones I’ve seen there on occasion are as sweet as can be. *g*
More Eagleburger:
The remarks took place during an interview on National Public Radio that was, ironically, billed as “making the case” for a McCain presidency. Asked by the host whether Palin could step in during a time of crisis, Eagleburger reverted to sarcasm before leveling the harsh blow.
“It is a very good question,” he said, pausing a few seconds, then adding with a chuckle: “I’m being facetious here. Look, of course not.”
that’s gonna leave a mark….
How is Eagleburger gonna wear the dual mantles of being both a McGrumpy supporter and a despicable ‘Washington cocktail circuit’ faux-conservative?
Heehee me too. What a cutie.
So glad the test seems to have gone well. Good thoughts going for good results, too…
Now that is refreshing *G*. In all fairness, not all of the nuns at my school were mean, just 98% of them.
I love the non-enthusiasm of Reagan and Baker. I am always encouraged by a little sanity and for some reason always want to think the best of Baker…can’t explain. A TXan thing, I guess.
Speaking of fundies gone awry, check out Ari’s top post at Oxdown: a picture that appears to be a group of them praying to the golden bull on Wall Street. Just falling down funny if you ask me. Clicking through all the links takes you to an update on Wonkette that suggests Ms. Noonan is there for the laying on of hands for this false idol.
are the nuns still stern looking? Ours were as mean as wet cats
umm, ixnay on the unsnay.
years of therapy heading down the tubes as we speak… *g*
John Cussack….SWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!
pent up sexual represion Prof Freud?
sorry. *g*
Hardee Har.
My husband went to Catholic school and has never spoken ill of the nuns who taught him. Said he had some fine teachers. But, then, he’s a much nicer person than I.
On the other hand, I went to public school and remember a teacher so vicious, she was the kind that used the ruler. My mother, who didn’t ordinarily look out for me, demanded I be put in a different class when I started coming home with stomach aches.
This is a good reminder of what happens when we over classify.
*shudder* I never ever thought of them having anything to do with sex. I was at an all girls school (can’t mix with the boys you know- even theough their school was not that far away). These are the same women that used to measure our skirts to make sure that they weren’t too short. I was practically in a prairie skirt
I’m not over classifying the 98% just the other 2% who were the music teacher and the two nuns that worked the cafeteria *g*
Six years of Catholic elementary school for me. Most of them were sweet Irish ladies but there was one in 5th grade who made the Sisters of Mercy look like the Sisters of Merciless.
It was generally rumored that those who went to all-girl schools were the “easiest”, if you know what I mean.
Mr. Snap complains bitterly about how catholic school warped his mind. But it’s hard to feel too sorry for him since he got such a good education compared to mine in public school.
LOL I can’t speak to that. But that would explain my ‘ho’ period when I lived in Europe *G*
Is there any better picture that encapsulates the utter lunacy of the modern day rightwing Christian movement?
It is picture perfect and it should give people who claim to follow the words of Jesus pause.
-G
So how are things looking where everyone is in terms of election stuff — not just presidential but the other races as well? Mr. ReddHedd had to drive to southwestern Virginia on business yesterday and said the entire drive down, the Obama signs were outnumbering the McCain signs at least 2 to 1. I thought that was unusual enough to note — it was entirely the other way around in 2004.
Could be interesting…if it’s indicative of anything other than good sign placement. *g*
Gotcha, but I was talking about over-classifying groups of people, in general.
Like, stereo typing. It talks away our individualities and I tried really hard to nip it in the bud when I was raising my kids. Well, still.
I received an excellent education and not all catholic schools were ruled by tight fisted authoritarians
Your “ho” period?!? You can’t just fling something like that out there without elaboration, now can you? *G* (Seriously, though, some time in Europe traveling around sounds lovely. Where did you go?)
Would be true but I didn’t say all nuns are mean or bad, just the ones at my school.
Cusack appeared on Letterman, IIRC, and spoke out against the war and our government policies and actions. He spoke plainly and with much heartfelt sincerity. I am a big fan.
i regret to inform you, through all elementary School, and high school bio,i was the teachers pet, till i hit boarding school, when my stock went wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy down…”g”
I had one of those periods too, in college. Thankfully, it was brief. My mother was my nun, I think. One time she put a poster up in my room that said God first, Others second, Myself last. Not a good thing to tell an already defiant teenager.
Of course, I look at things differently now that I’m all growed up. Ha.
ROFL!!!!! sorry to just throw that out there.
I lived abroad for about three years in Germany and traveled all the time (they have huge semester breaks for college students) to Italy, Scotland, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Poland, France, Spain and Portugal.
By the way. Speaking of going into the nutbin. Did anyone see Keith’s mention of Pam from Atlass Shruggs?
She obviously never noted the irony that her eugenics based description of Obama is exactly the kind on lunacy promoted by the Nazis…..sorry Godwin.
-G
Your “ho” period?!? You can’t just fling something like that out there without elaboration, now can you? *G*
I took it as a Christmas-spirit thing… *g*
I didn’t think you said that, and I think you are a tolerant and open minded person.
Sorry if I was clear.
LOL sucks how that happens, doesn’t it?
It is when you think of it. The spirit of giving *g*
oops…wasn’t clear.
gotcha
yes my bio teacher had me opening EGG EMBRYOs everyday till full cycle….DIDNT EAT EGGS for years…”G”
She put the fear of God in you. I wonder if that is a good thing. On the one hand, it seems to keeps children disciplined. OTOH, it’s kind of lousy to scare children into submission. I speak from my own Catholic experience.
I went to catholic grade school and had an eigth grade nun we called the hook. Nasty person but one of the other ones made up for it. Classes were really large (60 -65) but we got learned real good.
I know it’s science and all but yuck
lol.
Christy.
NH has a significant Obama GOTV presences. My GOP-er town has an office and they are expecting 150 supporters. They are working in unison for all Democrats. Support is coming in from all around New England because of NH’s toss-up status.
It looks like (D) Shaheen will turn out (R) Sununu in the Senate race. It also looks like both freshman Dems will retain their house seats.
Carol Shea-Porter was in jeopardy, but it is looking better for her.
NH’s (D) Governor Lynch will likely get between 60% and 70% of the vote. Last time he got 73%.
-G
hahahahahahahahaha
yah,it was quite disgusting to me
Back to Christy’s question about how the election is looking locally, I can honestly say that McCain is going to get whooped here by like 22% (last poll taken). i dunno about the congressional race…it looks to be close. We have Dana Rohrabacher as a congresscritter (ugh) but Debbie Cook just might pick this seat up for the dems. She is actually making him campaign (much to his chagrin). I’ll have to go find the latest polling to see how the race is shaping up
Oh, the years of therapy.
I don’t think fear is a good tactic to use on children or adults. Well, not good for the receiver. I think it’s a cowardly way of trying to get what you want.
Look at the tactics we’ve seen used on us for way too long of a time.
Fear is a short cut. It takes patience and understanding to influence a healthy outcome.
OT They are showing clips of Gore on tv and either he has lost a lot of weight or they are real old clips.
PS, perhaps this is a partial answer to CHS’ thread question. Maybe? Afraid of the truth?
It sounds like Obama is still neck-in-neck in Indiana. I really doubt he’ll end up winning the state, but the fact it’s close here makes me believe that he really can win the White House.
I just wish things looked better for our gubernatorial race. Mitch Daniels is a market fundamentalist who wants to privatize the entire state government, but it looks like his opponent, Jill Long Thompson, is still trailing just a little bit — barring something surprising we’ll be stuck with four more years of Mitch Daniels — and by the next election we’ll probably have to officially change the name of the state from “Indiana” to “Eli Lillyiana” or whichever company wins the bid for corporate sponsorship.
THe classes at St. Joseph School were about 50 but mine was smaller at about 45. That would drive teachers nuts today.
Well Trent Franks in AZ will still be around. I think Ann Kirkpatrick will win Renzi’s old seat. I don’t about Shadegg.
AZ Matt & Katymine, I got a robocall from Dennis Deconcini in support of Sheriff Joe, did you? I couldn’t believe that jerk of a turncoat!
Will someone be wrting a book on how McMean went from being the old Mc to the new, mean Mc. that everyone says he is not the same person they had known? Or, has that book already been written? He has that straight-talk,chum with the press myth…suddenly turned to cranky, crazy, etc. What’s the real story and who will tell it?
So then for a nice Catholic girl travelling through Europe upright and not always seeing the sky “ho” would be short for hobo?
