G’nite all ~ PEACE!
Barack Obama:
Fuck him!
Digg it Pups!!
g’evening pups – how ya’ll doing tonight?
came up to say hi/good night and i see this crap.

I think you may have misunderstood. Drastically misunderstood.
Suzanne!
What a find!
thanks for opening the digg nahant
ola suz
hope all is well with you
Do we need waterproof gear tonight Suz??
Dugg!
i took it as a joke.
Hi Suz!
I gotta head out now. Big day tomorrow (halloween on a friday night!) at my daughter’s school. Our neighborhood is nuts for the holiday too. People come for miles around.
peace out, Pups!
thanks suzanne. i am gonna go to sleep though. catch you tomorrow.
Double Digg again, nahant—guess who got there first?
Aloha, Suz!
I would agree Newt the way Barack stated that was all in jest for Rachel’s hard hitting reports and hope that Barack’s campaign would hit back just as dirty as McCain’s has been doing. Barack stated tha the he thought that the American people didn’t want that and were sick of that kind of campaigning!!
Heh, you two are always butting heads for the digg, eh? ;-)
Digg is fixed. neurophius got it.
no dive tonight – token had dental work done today and i’m being his nurse nancy
enjoy.
Rachel said he seemed relaxed…perhaps a bit too relaxed?
just so long as you are not Big Nurse, ala Ken Kesey…
well, huh…. Obama has tapped Rahm Emanuel for Chief of Staff…
interesting choice.
maybe…she said any more relax and he would have been asleep.
guess it’s better than the alternative (see mccain)
Hi Suz, pups.
Here’s what’s on my mind tonight, has Barack Obama ever acknowledged, or talked about, or posted at FDL???
It’s cold here…
nurse ratchet is not allowed to take care of the cutest dog in the world, 9 lb category.
he was, of course, the darling of the vet hospital.
OC!
Liddy Dole’s version: “Yes, wiccan!”
i read on huffpo that he has not said that…
Suz!
Nope it is just that Lurk chose you Digg over mine, I was a full minuet ahead of you … go look at the difference in times on the Diggs.
So Lurk you need to make my Digg The Digg of preference!!
Beside I post my Digg way ahead of you here at the thread.
((token))
you had better look at the times Lurk!!!
gets him outta his blue dog job and frees up his seat for a progressive d
also, can’t cos’ be let go – unlike congresscritters….
hey, newt…
hey oc – long time no see – hope all is well with you and yours
Wow!
And she’s a worse stain than that crank of a husband of hers.
Very well said.
huh?
link
I just watched a Wyoming senate debate between Barrasso and Nick Carter. In any other state Carter should win. Right now he’s far behind. I say Wyoming deserves better representation and someone who can work with the Congressional Democrats. I say Wyoming needs Nick Carter.
I just flipped the show on and WOW I was impressed right away. Carter is first rate and matches up well with most of our current senators.
He made incisive points and fought well in the debate. He also seems to be very bright and knows a lot about important issues of the day.
Wyoming needs Senator Nick Carter.
Can we ship him some pre-made ads to air the next few days? Maybe he could use some dough to buy airtime too.
Wyoming is due for better representation.
excuse me nahant but it was not lurk who chose
digg will put the second digg at the top of the post, overwriting the first digg.
it was digg that did that dood
hey Suzanne! lotta family situation stuff and too much work, but still alive.
dang and I had my rain gear on for a giant cannon ball!!!
what’s up ’round here?
You had better look at the Digg at the top of the page, nahant!
Here it is; go to 4:40. Then explain how I’m wrong.
IMHO, he’s telling progressives to go fuck themselves, and this isn’t the first time.
Are you serious? The DLC slime ball for Chief of Staff…? That does not bode well for us progressives…! :-(
well…when I got back from Diggland, the Digg button led to my Digg…isn’t that all that matters?
I can’t help it if you are beating me back to the comments with your $$$30,000 monster PC…I just post my Digg and then see what the button says ;)
Bloody Kristol says, you know there’s the Reverend Wright thing. he really was Obama’s pastor.
Stewart says, If you want to talk about pastors, Sarah Palin’s pastor pulled witches right out of her head.
Kristol says, yeah but none of that stuff really matters.
Liddy Dole put out a horrible add falsely calling her opponent “godless” or some such.
Damm them diggers whats a guy to do???
oh nothing much – diaries, pups getting front paged…you know, the usual
any way to wrap Darth around the repug candidate’s neck?
or do they actually like Darth out there?
I suspect Obama appointments will surprise progressives entirely.
your wrong. he was laughing because she wanted him to say conservatism was a failure and he didn’t want to go there. you are reading way too much into it
I did see that and I call no fairezies I WAS firsties!!
It’s so nice to see you!
(((token))) (((suz)))
i’m out. peaceful dreams pups.
covering eyes.. please no spoilers for those who are time zone challenged
OK, thanks pun, I saw that earlier, my mind is just not as nimble as yours tonite
if ever…:)
nice to see you too, pups…
I am very surprised. You know full well what he was saying.
Caught this in mikefromireland post on syrian border. Its surely a gazzete for someone.
Freaking guy running for congress fl-22 and he is a admitted and proud torturer of the innocent.
http://www.independent.co.uk/o…..75452.html
Sick. I do not know what is worse the Audacity of Crime, or the people that cheer him on. Or the failed pile of shit of a party that would nominate this person. Some foot soldier sits in prison for torture while officers and generals run for congress.
I checked out his site as well he has some other winning positions like being against illegal immigrent “anchor babies”.
I tried to find some polls but could not, I assume he will be going down by at least 10 points, but he should lose 100 – 0.
token was sent home with 3 shots (but no needles – just the plastic thingie) with liquid pain meds – one squirted in his mouth each morning and then a week’s worth of antibodics. he does liquids a whole lot better than pills. i swear he would rather turn blue than swallow a pill.
The WATB republicans say he’s a rabid partisan and that’s not a good way to start off blah blah blah.
Why didn’t the Democrats say exactly that WRT Card, Rove, Bolton, Miers, etc?
Nothing wrong with calling a partisan a partisan. WTF, is he supposed to make Chuck Hagel his COS?
I canvassed for the Obama/Dems this week. Phonecalling and putting up some signs in yards. Yards of people who never had a political sign before, didn’t really agree with that sort of thing and would never have gotten one on their own, but….now they’ve got a few. Awesome!!
Invigorating.
And now I read on Bradblog.com that a county clerk in Adams county CO has flagged a voting machine for flipping votes and quarantined it. I have friends who are country/city clerks!!! We may have met the next Rosa Parks! Maybe enough is enough.
Aloha, Wobbs!
Sorry. There I go again! Say it ain’t so Joe!
i’m not looking forward to giving him a pill twice a day for the next week.
but, he is doing real well and seems to be eating his soft food ok and has slept a lot tonight.
night, pups…sleep well…
so its ok to open my eyes now?
nite OC!
Yes she did. Our family just sent $10 to Kay Hagen an hour ago. Bad, bad Libby.
No more spoilers from me tonite. I swear.
You could write to Digg’s No Fairzies Department.
I knew what Obama was talking about.
Just like people wanted him to go nuts at the debate.
Maybe Obama should have pulled a Gore and sighed at McCain. That really would have showed how terrible conservative policy is and what a uniter he will be.
I will prefer to have my disgust be for when he abandon’s policy & not for winning an election. And I think we all know there will be limits to what Obama can or wants to do – on the other hand we are coming out of 7 years of the disaster that had no limits. Obama for all the lies of the National Review is not much of a “liberal”.
I see later you note it was all a joke.
For instance I am now disgusted to think Emanual will be chief of staff. God the disappointment could be tough here. I think I want to throw up.
Rahm Emanuel, a dual citizenship volunteer for the IDF? [Wikipedia: “During the 1991 Gulf War, Emanuel was a civilian volunteer in Israel, rust-proofing brakes on an army base in northern Israel.”]
What’s the worst thing about Rahm?
g’nite oc
Yo yo yo allayuz!
Wow, I just gave a hundred bucks to Barry and he pays me back how? By making Rahm The Ineffective Not To Mention Sepulchral his CoS? I knew all along that man was gonna break my heart, I just knew it…
But he still has to win. He was right back at the Great FISA Disappointment: we have nowhere else to go.
No, what disturbs me greatly is Rahm’s DLC tendencies… I don’t give a rat’s ass how the repugs construe him as… I just think he’s a piss poor choice to head the transition team and the selection of potential cabinet members… Look at all his shitty selections for potential reps… Heath Shuler, Harold Ford, ad nauseum…!
What power will Rahm have as Obama’s COS? He’ll be a glorified secretary.
By the way – no one has chosen anyone for any position. No one. Yet.
He is smug DLC who mock progressive (think Obama was laughing at Rachel – he is one that actually does). Other things will be noted here.
For example I did not know he volunteered for a foreign army. Not a huge deal but these things add up.
He strikes me as a Cheney type power lover with his own agenda. I am sure Obama can keep him inline… but why waste the energy.
thanks and Done Margot!!
Read my 84… A CoS typically sets up the potential appointees to the Cabinet…! :-(
At the point where he said, “you’re crusin’ for a brusin’,” he had already made it clear that he didn’t want to go there. IMHO, his comment was a “Fuck You” to Rachel and all other liberals.
See e.g. Hadley, Stephen.
That’s what I thought was the worst thing about him. The DLC Schuler, Ford.
Was he a Lieberman afficionado as well?
Hmmm. Lest we forget, Lieberman was Obama’s mentor in the senate. Yikes!
I already voted for Obama and all Democrats on Tuesday.
i thought he was acknowledging that she was trying to get him to diss the other side – iirc, she said something about that – that she was trying for that – when she was chatting with ko before her interview aired.
yeah but mine was still firsties and thus it is no fairses and I didn’t spend no 30 grand on a Pc that is just my wisheses!!! But I did spend 2k on a laptop a year ago !!
As DCCC chair, he went way out of his way to primary progressives, with blue dog’s and even former Republican, whom he recruited to run against progressive candidates. He truly hates progressives.
Maybe, but not possible to tell since he noted he is trying to win. Interesting analysis with Rachel and Keith.
I think you could be correct – but its not possible to tell.
Should he do what she wants and give a big “fuck you” to conservatives when even they are not happy with Bush or Cheney? He already has Rachel’s vote so why turn off other voters 5 days before the election?
Sadly we are not going to know the sellouts until after the election – and in some cases we wont know until we see somethig on the history channel 30 years from now.
Black guy. Democrat. Running against a ‘war hero’ Republican. During 2 occupations. And ahead in the polls.
He can fucking treat his opponents party any damned way he likes during the campaign, as long as he wins.
He has already proven all of us who wanted him to throw flaming turds at McCain. Me included.
He knows what he’s doing.
All that for a teeth cleaning?
By all means, I’m voting for Obama, I’m just worried and/or disappointed if he does choose Rahm as his CoS!
Good point, I should not say just laughs at them – but uses his power to knock/block them down.
Also promot his blue dog buds in a failed strategy. Obama brining him in would be like him working to bring in blue dogs over progressives. As we saw in the last election (people pointed out) his choices did much worse and the progressive choices did very well.
Well. Those are valid reasons not to like the guy. I’ve heard him on NPR and he talks a good game. But, you gotta walk it like you talk it or you’ll lose that beat.
In my lexicon there’s a vast difference between noting that someone has not criticized Republicanism/Conservatism, and “crusin’ for a brusin’”.
Rahm is not ‘in charge’ of the transition team. And the talk about him being selected for COS is just that. Talk. I would be totally surprised if someone other than Axelrod or Plouffe wound up in that position. After all, with all the hard work the both of them put in a very nice reward.
*Spoiler Alert!*
I *think* Obama hinted at that in the interview when he talked about transferring all the technology and stuff from the campaign to the whitehouse.
wigwam – what up?
Obama knows that Rachel Maddow wants him to pick a nasty fight with McCheese – Hell, so do most of us. He has held his mud and is considered the more reasoned candidate by a huge majority of the voters.
He knows better.
Btw, I can guarantee that Obama won’t come running to HoJo’s rescue when Reid and Co. throw his sorry ass off the Homeland Security Committee…!
Obama was saying that Rachel wants to do some conservative bashing – not that her asking him the question was (her crusing for a bruising).
That Rachel was the one “crusing” and “for a brusing” was to lay smackdown on convervatives.
He mixed him analogy/methaphore.
That’s astute. You may be on to something there.
Rachel didn’t seem too upset afterwards, in her own or KO’s shows.
he had a molar extracted along with 3 smaller teeth. i’m the worst dog mom in the world – i didn’t know he needed teeth cleaning. when i was a kid and we had dogs, we just gave them bones and dog bisquits to chew on. didn’t know that it is common for small dogs to have tooth trouble.
i used to take him to the low cost shot clinics since i could not afford a vet back in ca. they gave him a once over and his shots but never mentioned dental care.
Agreed. Would he have said to a nonliberal pundit, “You’re crusin’ for a brusin’”? I think not.
IMHO, that was putting all progressives on notice, and immediately after we learn that he has asked liberal-hating Rahm Emauel to be his chief of staff.
A righteously indignant Hagan strikes back.
Correct. Also, please don’t forget that Obama has been ‘collecting’ Republican endorsements all over the place and if he went after the Republican Party that way he would lose most of them just as quickly. He said at the very beginning of his campaign that he would be ‘reaching across the aisle’ and that is what he has been doing. In order to do that, he cannot bash the GOP at the same time.
As far as Rachel – they were both laughing when he said that – I understood what he meant – she has been asking for weeks why he didn’t respond to McSlime’s attacks and has been urging him to do so. After he said the ‘cruisin’ comment he went on to explain why he did not go down that road. And I for one, agree with him completely.
That’s exactly the way I understood it. You put it together concisely.
you are the most worthy and loyal of FDL Diggers.
sometimes, one just doesn’t get a break.
I would love to see more tech in the whitehouse.
I wish they had software apps to track how they make decisions, who they talk to about what, who puts up ammendments, etc (in all branches).
He also hinted that they were going to have to come up with “big” plans to right the ship.
If he can take his organization and game into the WH especially with solid Congress and Senate its going to be good stuff if they have the right stuff in mind.
It would also be great to see somehow a righty from the SCOTUS retire as well as getting some young blood in the left (allowing the heroic hold ons to retire). Thanks again Sandra Day O…appoint Bush POTUS and then let him appoint/annoint your replacement.
For once in his drug hazed, cholesterol steeped life Rush Limbaugh was right.
John McCain is destroying the Republican Party.
They have been reduced to wild eyed conspiracy theories, ripping up campaign signs, hoping for a terrorist attack and praising Hillary Clinton.
-G
OT — Hubble back up. Yay techies!
Suz, will u be brushing your dog’s teeth regularly as needed?
Obama knows how to decline to “go there” without resorting veiled threats. His interaction with Maddow was by far the most agressive I’ve seen him all campaign.
Correction: He has NOT asked Rahm to be his COS. That is pure speculation and not true.
When I first read that I thought you said ‘a most worth adversary’…! ;-)
Well, he had quite a bit of help with that. By the time he made it to the front bench, the ol’ ideological cupboard was pretty frickin’ bare.
dang Suz sorry to hear that about token… we have been planning to take tucker to the “teeth cleaning without anesthesia clinc…. but between Julie and myself we haven’t been able to get it done! they have a website maybe in the future you can bring token when he needs tooth cleaning again. http://www.animaldentalcare.info
No need to toss flaming turds when the master turd is self immolating.
-G
You really aren’t going to believe this:
http://scienceblogs.com/pharyn…..hen_yo.php
PZ catches the fundies worshiping a golden calf.
said for me to use a soft damp cloth on my finger — but to wait until he is off the pain meds so that will start monday.
I agree with you. But I also think that he seemed a little loopy. Overtired. The guy’s been running his ass off.
Like I said I did write to Digg really just for the fun of it and here is their answer:
Thanks for contacting us. When a URL is submitted by more than one person within the same 60 seconds, the system sometimes can’t detect the duplicate. In cases like this we let the community decide which to go with.
Best,
- Digg Support Team
good idea nahant but i’m 700 miles north of ya. i’m ok with him getting the anesthesia – i would rather he not hurt. and now that i know about how much it costs, i can budget for it and save up.
yeah!!! love those hubble pictures!!
Prob with a righty SCOTUS retiring – they are all soooo young (comparatively speaking) Among the hard right are Head Guy Roberts who is still in his 50’s, Alito in his early 60’s, Thomas, very early 60’s and Scalia, mid 60’s.
Comparing the lefties who are Ginsberg 89 I think, Souter who is around 85, and the rest of them in their upper 70’s.
Lifetime appointments suck, big time.
the community being the digg people digging the digg
not the community here at fdl
and, furthermore, will token be rushin’ for a brushin’?
1,812 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Citizen Suzanne and the Firepup Freedom Fighters:
OK Sister SuzieQ, stoke up the fire and keep the tunes rollin’ ‘cuz this is the last of four nights.
Did anyone catch all of Rachel’s sitdown with Barak…I had ta catch some Z’s so I missed the second part. Mrs. Norske (the commanding officer in our household) said itwas the best interview she’s seen with Obama and she hopes a bunch a folks who don’t normally watch Rachel checked it out. She also said, however, that Rachel is makin’ ‘er nervous with all the skepticism over the polls and the results Tuesday…anyone else gettin a bit uncomfortable here too? I gotta say, Rachel ain’t completely convinced of Obama’s progressive bonifides and seems a bit disappointed that he’s not reachin’ ta put the fascists out completely…I have to admit to a bit a those feelin’s my own self but I’ll take a big electoral victory Tuesday and stay after ‘im for the next 4 years ta administer the coup d’gras…after all I think most of us on the progressive side are in this thing for the long haul.
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION, YA CAN’T ALWAYS GET WHATCHA WANT!!
You hate his guts for not being Bobby. So do I, but just a little.
I think the ultimate Obama stragegy is for 8 years (assuming he can even win this one). That he is going to keep with the unity/hope (big tent) – but in reality vast majority wants progressive action so it can still be OK. I think the country does need to come together and have a president for everyone (knowing what its like to have a POTUS for only 35 – 49% of the people for 8 years; in reality for only 2% of the country). But be very clear not to sacrafice core things and be able to draw a line that he will stand up on.
If he can dilute the identity of Republic party even a bit (given their internal problems) and get some solid stuff done he should be able to win in 2012 and hopefully keep up the majorities. Kind of smother them with kindness. Now that the Democrats are looking at vast majorities it might be hard since there is no cover. It is particulaly important to keep up the majorities for some more cycles since shit stain Senators (assuming they can stay out of jail) are with us for 6 years *by by Sunnunu wish Gregg was going with you*. Hell SCOUTUS is for life.
He had the best narrative going back two years ago. McCain could have come close in his narrative but he totally blew it. Mitt the shit sure don’t have any narrative that is going to win in 2012. Only chance for fiscal Repubs is if the econ is worse 3.5 years from now.
no, that would be the last way I would ever want to describe my relationship with nahant! the Digging is all for the good of the Lake and its talented writers.
he doesn’t complain – i had no idea until i saw the molar when we saw the vet 2 weeks ago that he had any trouble. the vet confirmed as he was poking around the tooth that token was not a complainer – token never whimpered nor showed any sign of discomfort, not even as the vet was showing me the tooth in question.
Either trial ballon, or fake story to go into the “measuring the drapes” theme.
parts one and two are up at the silo
So the honeymoon is over?
-G
these people advertise that they don’t hurt the dog! Julie and I were at the San Mateo Feed store and one of the ladies behind the counter was talking about them she was saying just how great these people were and she put her dog on the counter and showed off his teeth!!
But if he’s a godless liberal, then… how…
I have to agree with that.
I’m concerned with the fact that he said explicitly to Rachel that he will criticize Bush and McCain but is not willing to criticize Republicanism and/or Conservatism. Fine. He doesn’t have to at this point, if that’s what it takes to get elected.
But, he doesn’t have to tell Rachel that she’s “crusin’ for a brusin’” for simply asking the question. Nor did he have to say today that he’ll continue the economic policies of Bill Clinton, which IMHO were Republican-lite. Nor did his staff have to indicate that they’ve approached Rahm Emanuel to be his Chief of Staff.
Basically, I’m not liking what I’m hearing from the Obama campaign.
Agreed, going to have to get lucky to get a righty to retire (or a major scandel).
Hey I don’t kn ow just reporting what was said(:>)) Besides it really is no big gig! Me and neuro love to compete… I never took it personally and it just shows that we do our best to support the Lake!!
I will be confident, but at the same time quaking in my boots until they call 270 for Obama.
In 2004 I just kept painting the babies room…well they are a bit more grown up now and have a new one. This time I will just start packing our bags.
Yeah, remember the VP pick stories for weeks before he actually picked Biden. There were lists on lists on lists for weeks. Some of them actually said he had picked this one or that one. They were all wrong. So I’m not believing it until Obama says it out of his own mouth this time.
He mentioned deficit spending like he knows he’s got to do it to get things going again. He quoted Johnson saying, If you spend money, let people see something tangible like a bridge. Dubya spent billions and we got nothing to show for it.
Ain’t that the truth?
He’ll break our hearts sooner or later. Utterly inevitable. Vote anyway.
Sure, just blame Lurk for being prejudiced against ya, nahant…! ;-)
I interpreted his comment to mean that Rachel has been spoiling for a fight with the GOPers.
But relax a bit and wait until Obama brings Newt Gingrich into his cabinet before damning him all to hell.
-G
I’m not sure that there was ever a honeymoon, but all possibilities ended with the FISA-flop.
But, in fact, I actually like the guy. IMHO, he’ll be the best president since Carter, and the best Republican president since Eisenhower.
Hmmph… you and nahant aren’t taking the bait…! 8-)
kewl – just wanted to make sure you knew that it was not lurk nor the lake that decided what digg went to the top of the post.
Even Carter didn’t have this much malaise on his plate, and, it’s not even served up to Obama yet…!
One more try on this and I do respect that you could be correct so thanks for pointing out your views.
To me Obama was saying:
Rachel is “cruising” for a “bruising” smackdown that SHE wants to give to conservatives.
I really do not think he was saying that the question was out of bounds.
Love the Rachel by the way, EXCELLENT questions. I was a bit nervous since she was so giddy she was kind of giving up some of her power before the show started. But she asked fairly tough and unique (though they should not be unique) questions. I think she could have probed a bit harder on Afganistan and maybe asked a (more?) question on Syria. I would also have gone for the hail mary and asked about investigations (but that would not have been answered).
i hexed your stir stick dood (laughing)
Obama is going to hear from the people. He heard us and he ignored us about FISA. He’s gonna hear a lot from us. He won’t be able to ignore us all the time and still be successful. He talks about a lot of excellent ideas. Solar, Wind, Infrastructure, jobs, healthcare, etc. We’re gonna have to ride his ass on some of it for sure.
Now we got to GOTV.
hey there, CT…you wouldn’t be cruizin’ for a bruizin’ there, would ya? :)
when I hear the lurking one say that he has “fixed” the Digg…I assume he means he has made the links in the comment conform to what the Digg button says…is that right?
A little October Surprise, anyone?
I’m cruisin’ for some snoozin’. Catch ya’ll later.
Oh, and I agree with your last line. Though other than overall theme, general direction, and the excellence in speech and organization – there have been lots of things I do not like what I am hearing.
I hope in this case “continue Clinton fiscal policy” is just super short hand for a democrat was in charge and (much of) the country was doing great. As opposed to say Clinton ideas like lets open up gambling on the stock market again though it has not been done for 100 years and the last time it caused the Great Depression.
Obama is going to have all sort of differnt fish to fry…its a new time.
I only hope his job is not putting Humpty Dumpty back together again…cuz that aint possible.
Moi? ;-)
Will he care? Why should he? His next accountability moment will be in 4 years, and I guarantee you he’ll look better to us than any ratty-ass the R can muster.
Aloha, hack!
Particularly if they try to serve up Miz Flailin’ again…!
This is from the Obama campaign on the subject of Rahm Emanuel:
that means the digg link in the comments has been fixed to reflect the digg at the top of the page
I don’t believe that O “ignored us about FISA.” I don’t believe that he was not aware of and did not consider the kinds of arguments that we were making. It was a tough call and he happened not to side with us on that one. If he gives us a Democratic presidency after 8 years of abomination, I am willing to give him a few strikes…maybe more than three, certainly more than one.
He’s gonna need some “friends” (creepy McCain air quotes). The media and the Rethugs are gonna punch on him day and night. He’ll need to make somebody happy. Getting Taxation back in order is a good thing for progressives and the country and it will be loathed by fat cats and the media (fat cats, too).
Hoy Boy Ct you ARE trying to start a MUD fight!! Well we just won’t/don’t wanna play like that.
so when are we going to get those pictures at eleven of all the great things in the heavens huh CT????
Yes, there is going to be some spending and no doubt much will be for biz (I swear other pols have been allowing the big companies to get into a green position before sending out the cash). I hope the money finds its way to innovative biz and university.
Would also like to see education and scholarship since that really is tangible.
And of course infrastructure and green jobs so people can work.
Great lines by Obama he really does seem to understand it ALL (or all of the vast stuff he has read into) and has EMPATHY. So he is 2/2 where Bush was 0/2. Obama said yes China spending up a storm – but look what they have for it – tangible items; roads, great ports that will take them roaring into this century. Meanwhile we have A FUCKING BRIDGE TO A CAPITAL PLUNGE INTO THE WATER IN REAL TIME WITH PEOPLE ON IT.
I’m told that Robert Rubin is his chief economic advisor: “He served as the 70th United States Secretary of the Treasury during both the first and second Clinton Administrations [Wikipedia]”

Rubin and Paulson are both former Goldman Sachs CEO’s. That is not good.
Did you see that Sarah the Know Nothing was trying to get her moronic drill, baby, drill chant going while giving a speech at a solar tech plant.

When we recognize someone as a leader, we often place our faith in that person to a degree that exceeds what is humanly possible. In other words, we expect them to be beyond fault and to not make mistakes. This, of course, is neither realistic nor fair. Just like us, these people are living human lives, and part of the deal is learning through experience and working out our individual karmas. There will always be missteps and things they would do differently given a second chance. If we are to be fair, we must grant our leaders the same forgiveness, compassion, and understanding that we grant our closest friends as they navigate the complex challenges of this human life.
Leaders are special people in that they have the ability to guide and represent large groups of people. In this calling, they agree, to some degree, to be responsible for the well-being of others. Because of this, we hold them up to a higher standard of behavior, and in some ways this is fair. However, we will only be disappointed and disillusioned time and time again if we expect them to be perfect. If they were perfect, they would not be here on earth. Perhaps the most we can expect of our leaders is that they make it a practice to acknowledge their shortcomings and learn from their experiences. Beyond this, when our leaders let us down, it is up to us to forgive and move on. Dwelling on disappointment and negativity creates more of the same.
People who choose to lead are often extraordinary individuals blessed with vision, energy, and charisma. It is their path to inspire, guide, and represent us, but it is not possible for them to never let us down. Leaders are on a path of growth just as we are. Perhaps this is something to remember when we have the opportunity to choose somebody in a leadership role.
I agree with you on the FISA vote. It would have passed no matter what he voted or if he didn’t at all. What I do know is that if he had voted against it the McSlime campaign would have added that to their argument that he is a ‘terrorist/terrorist sympathizer/soft on terrorists’ argument. He’s already getting beat up pretty hard on that issue when he hasn’t done anything at all and this would have been on record and hard to argue against. The GOP and its crew don’t do nuance, as we all know.
Couple a fucking socialists!

let’s let the man get elected before we start tearing him down
in 1980 I supported Ted Kennedy’s run against what I saw as a failed Carter presidency. I have often wondered how 1980 would have turned out if Congressional Democrats and grassroots liberals had given stronger support to Carter in the early years of his presidency and not been so quick to call “gotcha” every time we had a policy difference with him or he made a blunder. I don’t regret my support of Kennedy, but sometimes I do regret that he made the challenge. Looking back, I would be willing to give Carter a lot more slack if it would have prevented the Reagan coup.
Citizen wigwam:
Look, if ya need ta keep all dark and cynical so as not ta be disappointed when ya find out there’s no Santa Claus that’s fine…but don’t pisss on my parade, ok? Obama has developed a politics over the last 4 years that will not only get a Democrat elected but a BLACK Democrat!! Think about that and then take aanother listen to not only how he has been talkin’ these last few years but what he has been sayin’…I am hearin’ political intelligence on a scale we haven’t heard from any American politician since FDR and ,frankly, Obama sounds more and more like FDR the more I listen to ‘im. If you think that with the reality of his history lookin over his shoulder, Obama is gunna play Harold Ford and get all chummy with the fascist oligarchy after the election…well, yer watchin another network than I have been tuned into.
Keep ‘im honest, keep the heat on and stay active but don’t be pissin’ in yer own shoes by pretendin’ you are smarter’n he is.
Rubin is among an inner ‘circle’ of economic advisers that is about 15 people. He also has another group of about 300 who are also tied to the campaign and do have input. I’m not worried about him having any particular individual since he has so many different voices at the table.
This would be another thing thats going to make me sad. More of these Goldman SackOShits.
I hope he gets someone much better. Don’t know if Krugman can handle it but he is a bit further away from the corp teat. He can talk mubo jumbo and also plain english.
I think he may stick with Gates out of a fear he may have that if he makes a move and things get worse (which lets face it its going to be hard for things to get better until we get packing and perhaps well after that).
What I really want to see is accountability. He needs to clean house of the criminal especially at the USAG office.
Obama has been knocking Fox News and Hannity right in the chops.
I like that.
But he’s also appealing to the Collins/Snowe/Chafee/Powell wing of Republicans and that is smart too.
It gives people an escape hatch and helps to isolate the lunatic fringers.

Well thats it for me pups, good night and sleep well when you get there(:>))
I’m not “damning him all to hell,” but I’m not ignoring his expressed contempt for progressives.
He has made it clear that he’ll go no further in criticizing Republicans and/or conservatives than to say that their cause got hijacked by some less than competent people. He has made his admiration for Ronald Reagan clear and has called the Republican party, “the party of ideas.”
Again, he’s way better than McCain. But, IMHO, he ain’t one of us.

“Cruizin’ for a bruizin’” and Rahm rumors notwithstanding, I am going to spend as much time as possible in the next four days making calls to swing state voters for Obama. I’m thinking about going over and putting in some ground time in Missouri as well.
Keeping my eyes on the prize.
Obama’s transition team consists of over 600 people at this time. They are divided up into teams – one for each department of the government. They have signed ethics oaths and cannot serve if they or anyone in their family will be impacted or benefit from that department. They also cannot be a lobbyist for over a year.
Each team is vetting people for the three levels of each department that are appointed by the government. They are looking for individuals who also fit the criteria listed above.
I have much more confidence that good people will be chosen because they are building good teams for all parts of the government already.
This transition team and its approach were designed and were working for several weeks prior to the Pentagon White Paper that said the new president should have people picked and ready for Senate confirmation within the first few weeks instead of taking more than six months like the last bunch of hacks did. This paper was the one that said essentially what Joe Biden said – that the (any) new president will be tested. They mostly all have.

Damned right.
If he wants to govern, he has to split the Republican caucus, and he can’t do that without Snowe and her ilk. Shit, he has Landreau and Bachus and the Nelsopn Twins and Salazar and RGJoe in his own damned party to cope with.
Very very smart.

Obama is as good a leader as we were allowed to vote on. Take a peek at the african american running in FL-22 and see how scary some of our (wannabe) leaders are.
Sometimes these people get stuck in a frame. I like the way the Dem frame is and hope they can live up to it, be honest, and make major improvements to it. The frame of the oposition disgusts me. I do agree that people that spend to long pretending to dance in the middle or “respect” all opinions by dissing their party is a problem as there is only so much middle ground. There are lots of items where the ideas are the direct opposite and esentially there is no real middle ground.

Thanks for more details. I also agree that his process and organization couple with his knowledge/brainpower is a great thing.
There will be no Cheney with his own organization brewing up a war (with or without Bush’s knowledge). And hopefully there will be no – lets slip this ammendment in for us and our buddies as Goldman SackOShits that is harder to guard against.
Reverse aloha….
I guess that’s better than “ahola”…
Eggs-ackly! It is always tempting to strike back hard and almost blindly when you are attacked, especially the kinds of attacks that have been made against Obama in this campaign. But when you strike back blindly, you wind up hitting stuff you never intended, in this case, moderate Republicans.
He has so many Republican endorsements now it would be completely foolhardy to start dissing the GOP hard. Even Charlie Crist is doing the right thing right now for the voters – against his GOP legislature’s wishes so you want to be nice to those guys.
Heh, I guess he doesn’t realize it means both, hello and goodbye, among other things too…! ;-)
Oh Esianup!

P.S. Looks like Noonan did a non endorsement endorsement of Obama.

Yep. Of all the things I admire about Obama, his restraint stands out starkly. He is either mature beyond his years and then some, or he is the most disciplined campaigner we have ever seen.
Well, I shall bid ya’ll a fond adieu! Aloha Oe!!!
It’s pretty clear that Obama is going to be our next president, which is wonderful compared to the only reasonably possible alternative. Yay!
That said, however, he is definitely not a progressive and has no intention of installing a progressive administration.
I do not like the policies and names being “floated” by his campaign:
— a return to the economic policies of Bill Clinton
— Robert Rubin for Secretary of Treasury.
— Rahm Emanuel for Chief of Staff.
And, I resent his threatening condescention toward the nation’s best progressive TV newscaster. (Even if she doesn’t.)
aloha ct
Both!
Rachel was commenting on how relaxed he was. I have heard that over and over from pundits/press fools as well as regular people who actually get to meet him. I think that stems from a well of self-confidence in himself and his ideas. He has developed his self-esteem correctly so that it rests upon himself only, and not upon the opinions of others. That is why when McCain was making those outrageous statements in the debates, Obama just kept smiling – because he knew they weren’t true, and most of them he never even dignified with a response. There is nothing more frustrating to someone like McCain to attack someone like that and have the guy not only sit there and take it but just light up the room with that smile.
Feeds his anger – and that lost him all three debates. Heh!
nite tuttle
IMHO, it’s both but especially the latter:
This guy does not have handlers. He has advisors but his own ideas. You’ll never hear the Obama campaign say: “He doesn’t speak for the campaign.”
And, you won’t hear his campaign’s staff running to the press with their own spin on this and that, they way we saw from the Clinton and McCain campaigns.
Yes, WE WILL!
(mileage may vary under adverse conditions)…

He has been maligned as a speechifying amateur by Hillary Clinton and Republicans.
He has been mercilessly race-baited by Hilary Clinton and Republicans.
He has been called out on race and religious and neighborhood associations by Hillary Clinton and Republicans.
And kept his cool. Not one flash of anger in 20 months. Not one.
only 5 more days et, 5 more days
I’ve got 4,000-plus hours into this campaign. Haven’t been paid a penny, have donated thousands of bucks. Had we more, we would have donated the hours, money.
This is the most important election of my lifetime. I’ll be 62 the day before the election.
A year ago you and I were right her , discussing who the Goopers would pick. And we called it for McCain.
And We also said that only Edwards among Democrats could beat him.
We are .500 – that’s not bad.
Yes, and they said he had done ‘nothing substantial in his whole life’ and that he ‘never reached across the aisle’ and that a community organizer is a joke or just another name for a corrupt political hack, and that he is a baby-killer and a pervert and a terrorist himself, and, and, and…
This list is absolutely horrifying when you look at it in total and see that what should be a debate about how we’re going to fix this horrendous mess this country is in has degenerated into the worst pile of name-calling and vile smears we have ever seen.
And Obama has kept on discussing his policies.
Thanks for all of it ET. Right there is a huge difference too. McCain has to pay his GOTV staff – Obama gets people like you! Hooray!
Obama is the only Democratic presidential candidate, other than Bill Clinton, who has been able to stand up to the modern Republican attack tactics. Carter, Mondale, Dukakis, Gore, and Kerry went down in flames.
Okay, Gore not so much. He won the popular vote and would have won the election had the laws been followed. But, that said, those ugly Rovian tactics took an unreasonably large bite out of his margin, and that was enough to make the coup possible.
Hi Suz and pups. Love the Will.i.am video, but I like this one more. (Arabic subtitles in this case, but it’s gone global!)
I learned about it from Marie Roget. bmaz said today that she passed away with an anyurism….
Sure wish she could have made it to see the blow-out on Tuesday.
Hopefully this campaign of Obama’s will show the people in this country that it really IS possible to run a respectful campaign and still win. And that we should expect more of ALL of our politicians. Like Liddy Dole – she’s being called out by Republicans too on her slimy ad. The GOP has pulled all their support of Bachmann for her nasty attacks as well. Maybe…just maybe next time around we can have a substantive discussion on the issues instead of all the mud. Hopefully. I can still hope!
I don’t recall writing Obama off — I may have — but I certainly preferred Edwards as the most progressive of what then looked like the contenders. By super-Tuesday, I had to vote for Obama, as more progressive than Hillary (based largely on the composition of their staffs). I was rather shocked at his right turn after the primaries, especially his Reagan hagiography and his FISA-flop.
et, i hope you take some down time after the general before ya take back up the palin work.
you’e done good work, my friend, and deserve a few days of celebrating (fingers and toes crossed) before ya climb back into the muck.
The more I think about it, the more convinced I am that Obama will select a seasoned Washington Pro for COS. Probably a Hawk.
Sam Nunn is too old, as is Lee Hamilton. Albright, Holbrook – no.
But it’s one of the people who appeared behind him after his national security briefing this past Monday or Tuesday.
Any guesses? Real guesses?
yeah :( i will miss marie
I’ll be very interested to see who winds up in charge of that three-ring circus that we call conservatism: http://www.groupnewsblog.net/2…..ircus.html
Wow, impressive, ET. You have my total respect.
How’s the wind blowing up your way wrt Palin?
If he wants a seasoned veteran, the only seasoned democrats are veterans of the Clinton Administration. In that administration, there was no lack of competence. But, IMHO, there was a large failure of ideology. And, so far as I can tell, Obama is more about competence than ideology. so, I’ll guess that he’ll pick a Clinton veteran.
the wind is blowing from the ENE at about 3 knots. 12 degrees F.
Anything about Palin too complex to address here tonight. Working on something about Sarah Palin for my place…..
Well, Ms. Mooseburger seems to believe that she is now the annointed one. I do think that she is in for a big surprise when she gets there and the other people tell her to sit down and shut up.
Thanks for the link – great description. I think one of the things under discussion will be that for all the ‘talk’ of McCain representing the military-industrial guys in that circus – he didn’t really represent them either – he was standing alone in the middle of the ring without even the ringmaster’s hat or the microphone.
As far as what is going to happen next? I hope the moderates like Snowe, Crist, and some others like them figure out how to take over the show. I’d like to see us get back to when we had real debates on bills in the Congress instead of these mud-slinging contests and preening vapors speeches that do nothing for the dialogue. Here’s hoping.
We could do a lot worse than Clintonian competency. Under Clinton, FEMA actually worked. His pick for head of the VA turned that behemouth from a place most vets wouldn’t be caught dead in to one of the best medical delivery systems in the country. I would be really happy for some of that kind of stuff back again.
ok, pups, i need to cuddle with the little guy. g’nite all and thanks for hanging out with me tonight.
Citizen newtonusr:
Tony Lake will be the Sec. of State
A McCain/Palin victory is almost too horrible to contemplate, and yet it is not an impossibility.
Assuming they lose, however, there remain the questions of which of the three rings will take over the Republican party and can the keep the other two rings in tow.
A spook. Just what we need. Interesting guess.
nite suz
what a thread!
I’ll check in. Thanks.
It would sure as hell be a step in the right direction.
But, IMHO, our problems are too big to address with only an infusion of comptence and continuation of Clinton’s Reaganesque policies. And, I’ve seen no indication that Obama understands that last part.
There’s hope in the fact that Obama is a very bright (even wise) fellow, who might come around on things like single-payer healthcare — as opposed to making room for the insurance companies. We’ll see.
Wait – do you know something?
Someone wiser than me addressed this issue some months ago in the aftermath of the FISA thing.
Right now, Obama is a candidate. He is running for office in the face of the nastiest slime-machine in history. He is trying to win.
After the election, he will be the President. Then we must take a page from a piece of history. As you may know, FDR was not a populist when he was elected. But a group of people came to see him about their pet project. He listened, then said it was a good idea. He then admonished them to “Get out there and make me do it.”
Obama has issued that same challenge to us as well. He is right on that count – he cannot do anything on his own. He needs the support of the Congress and that means the people – kicking butt and pushing him in the direction WE want to go.
I believe that each one of us, after the election should pick a topic we feel strongly about, then get involved with a group that supports your point of view, and start in. On universal health care – Elizabeth Edwards group Healthcare Now! would be a good start. I’m doing Al Gore’s We Can Solve It! climate change initiative. Obama has kind of bought into each of these – I’ve heard elements of both in his speeches. But he needs to go further – and I think that we CAN push him. We just need to get organized and do it.
I have to give Bill Clinton’s administraion this: he got rid of Saddam’s WMD programs at very little U.S. cost in terms of blood and/or treasure. That makes him a military genius, per Sun Tzu:
If Tony Lake had something to do with Clinton’s policies regarding Iraq, perhaps he’d not be so all that bad of a choice.
Citizen newtonusr:
See the posts above from Citizen lokywoky about how Obama has structured his environment and put tagether his network of advisors and political organization. He is VERY much like FDR in that he identifies talent, doesn’t alienate anyone, keeps his own counsel, listens well, learns better, makes folks feel he has heard ‘em and puts ‘em ta work. We haven’t seen a leader with this kinda talent since 1944 and we won’t likely see it again in our lifetime.
As for those who are uneasy because they can’t identify Obama’s ideology, jest rememebr that Obama’s structure of ideas that makes sense of the world for him runs very deep and is a product of the intersection of his intellect and his history. That is to say, his ideology is a starting point, NOT and end goal so he doesn’t use it as an argument but as a basis for thought and action… unlike most of us lesser intellects for whom ideology is the endpoint because we aren’t capable of keepin tract of more’n one line of thought at a time.
EXACTLY!! Thanks for that quote.
I get that. I am starting to think that when he takes over, he will surprise us with some innovative part of his brain that we haven’t seen yet.
Sure, we will be crushed by his apparently moderate nature – I would love a bitterly partisan Progressive to make war on Congress – but some things he does will come from nowhere. And some of them will work.
Hey, I’ve got to get some sleep.
G’nite all.
Thank you NorskeFlamethrower.
This is the key to the entire Obama ground-game. He doesn’t round up volunteers and assign them all to phone banks or to canvassing. He has his field organizers sit for coffee with them and then lets them self-identify their talents and then they find jobs that fit those talents.
When Obama talks about bringing all of his campaign stuff to the White House, I have to believe that this same philosophy applies in his selections of staff and appointments to head the various agencies.
Nite wigwam. Pleasant sleep. Better days are coming!
jumping in after a long absence. hello all to the late nighters especially ET, Norske, Wigwam and Loo Hoo, newtonusr and Suzanne if she hasn’t unplugged.
the deal goes on. if Obama wins he’ll have to compromise. that’s what the “c” in politics stands for. i hope it isn’t Rahm. the Chief of Staff is powerful, don’t let anybody kid you. the COS controls access. nothing is more important, day after day, month after month. Rahm knows where all of the buttons and lever are. he knows the H of R pretty well. he’s butt buddies with both Schumer and Hillary. he’ll push in the direction of Israel no matter how wrong-headed a particular policy might be (at least that’s my guess). Biden is no Dick Cheney (thank god) nor is there likely to be his likes, in terms of political juice, anywhere in the administration.
if Rahm is appointed COS our job remains the same: push for the progressive with as much unity and energy as possible.

Woke up read this thread. Obama is and has been emotionalizing with hope and change. He is still general in his policu statements. And he does not promise specifics. He is pragmatic and playus to the audience. He knows he has to take the best bargain he can get from congress in the agenda he can implement.
he will not get into a controvery if can avoid it. He takes what is given. He will collaborate and work with the possibilities. How much change and what kind?
President’s circles change as the administration progessess. Recessions, budget constraints and foriegn affairs will draw energy from the agendas of healthcare and other hopefull programs. He will tax as much as congress allows and he definitely will work with the willing if elected.
Here is what I went away to, to write.
